Nailed It!

Designer Michael David Young calls the Auto Hammer his “mad scientist project” but we’re pretty sure it’s just pure genius! Imagined as an economical alternative to the nail gun, it’s highly portable, doesn’t require any electricity, and takes up a fraction of the space. Users can simply preload it with a nail strip, tap once to load, hammer once to set the nail, and continue driving the nail in. It features a nail-advancement mechanism that will prepare the next nail in line when the user is ready. Useful for everyone from construction workers to do-it-yourselfers, it’s a total time-saver and will help you avoid hitting your thumb!

A ‘smashing’ multi-tool!

multi_tool_hammer_1

Ten tools come together to occupy the space one tool would take. Kikkerland’s Hammer Multi-tool turns your regular claw-hammer and put an additional nine tools into it, making it even more useful than you’d initially hoped. Fitted right inside the hammer’s wooden handle are a flat head screwdriver, bottle opener, reamer, saw blade, file, knife blade, phillips head screwdriver and a handle that on pulling open, turns the hammer into a plier/wire-cutter!

With its light-colored wooden handle, the hammer looks and feels great to hold. Unlike most hammers, the Kikkerland Hammer Multi-Tool uses the mass of the handle to store as many different, versatile tools as possible… and the part where it transforms into a plier/wire-cutter? Sheer genius!

Thor’s Stormbreaker Gets Real

In Avengers: Infinity War, Thor had the world’s littlest giant forge him a one of a kind Thanos-killing weapon named Stormbreaker. Now humans have gone and built one in real life. Man At Arms: Reforged has brought the weapon to life, and it looks pretty impressive.

Instead of just casting the replica, they decided to forge it. First, they laid the foundation by hammering out the shape of the axe portion and leaving the other side rounded. Next, they added some stylish overlays to make it look like it does in the film. It doesn’t take long (for us thanks to the magic of video) for Thor’s new weapon to take shape, complete with a handle made by none other than Groot.

The surrounding parts of the hammer were made out of 316 steel because otherwise, it would weigh around 400 lbs. The end result is a weapon worthy of Thor himself. Naturally, they tested out the weapon after it was completed, so we get to see stuff like watermelons get destroyed. It’s awesome.

From Nest to Toolbox

If you live in North America, the Pileatus Claw Hammer might look familiar… and not because you saw it in your dad’s garage growing up! Rather, it takes avian inspiration from your own backyard and is inspired by the bird of the same name – the pileated woodpecker known for the colorful crest that adorns the top of its head.

The hammer adopts a similar form with a sleek, swept-back style that looks both aerodynamic and tough as nails. With a single white side and flaming red details on the claw, even the colors mimic the shading of the feathers. It’s an unusual inspiration of biomimicry but stunning nonetheless!

If Thor Had an Alarm Clock

hammer_alarm_clock_layout

Now you can channel your inner Thor superhero every morning with the Hammer alarm clock! That’s actually not far off from what the inspiration was for this clever clock. Designer Jorge Ros Gisbert wanted to create a way for people to wake up feeling strong and motivated each day instead of feeling defeated and irritating by annoying smartphone alarms.

Your face is already buried in your smartphone enough as it is, but at least now interacting with your phone doesn’t have to be the FIRST thing you do each day. Instead, you must grab the hammer and slam it down on the rubberized base to shut off the alarm. You’ll wake up feeling tough and determined as you’ve already muscled your way out of bed!

Hammering Home a New Design Language

instrumentum_15

Moving away from the more over-designed, intimidating and aggressive design language of modern household tools, Abidur Chowdhury has designed revolutionized the image of the conventional DIY tools. Chowdhury believes there is a “lack of consistency between both the hammer head and handle.” It’s this disconnected design aesthetic which creates an intimidating perception for the user whose primary use of the device might only last a handful of seconds at a time.

Turning this design language on its head, Chowdhury designed a more approachable set of tools. Burying the typically inconsistent designs of previous tools, Instrumentum carries elements that are visually consistent, soft and desirable to use, hold, and display. Smartly designed, the split within the head of the hammer dissipates the energy and reduces the impact being transferred into the user’s hands. Visually stimulating and made to appease any onlooker, Instrumentum strips the tool of any intimidation and invites a visually welcoming language from every angle. Abidur Chowdhury has hit the nail on the head with this one.

Goldfish Destroys Stuff with a Hammer

Witness the destructive power of the mighty goldfish! What you’re looking at here is the Fish Hammer built by Neil Mendoza, who is obviously a mad scientist, as he has now given a tiny fish the ability to smash stuff with a hammer.

A camera tracks the goldfish’s movement inside a tank, and communicates with a Teensy microcontroller to move the hammer to the fish’s position along a semicircular track. I’m not sure triggers the hammer to come down. Maybe the fish’s downward movement or when it stops for a moment. Regardless, it’s creepy.

You can find details on the build over on Instructables if you want to make one and give your fish destructive God-like powers. If you want your goldfish to destroy everything in your house, then go for it. But if you do, this will be the first step toward fish taking over the world.

10 Best Father’s Day 2017 Gifts Under $20

Father’s Day 2017 is coming up in just a few short weeks! Before you start freaking out, frantically looking for a gift to buy, have a look at this list of ten great Father’s Day gifts under $20! That’s right, under $20. No need to spend a fortune on something your dad will absolutely love.

Dad’s Ice Cream Killer Spoon

Ah, the dad bod. We have all seen it, we have all wanted to avoid having it, and yet, men everywhere achieve it. Probably through killing too much ice cream. Sigh. At least it tastes good. Give your dad his ice cream killing weapon, the ice cream killer spoon, and listen to all the ice cream scream.

Guitar Picks

Image via: Etsy
I know a lot of dads who play the guitar. Of course, they’re not always great at it, but give them these guitar picks to help them practice and become the next big thing in the music world. The guitar pick case can also be personalized and you can choose any letter you’d like! I hope your dad becomes a rock star.

Father’s Day Personalized Hammer

I know I’ve always relied on my dad to fix things for me, from computers to mp3 players, to installing new light bulbs, my dad has fixed everything. If your father is a handyman like mine, get him one of these hammers with a personal message. It’s a useful and touching gift. If your dad is like mine, he’ll definitely appreciate a practical gift.

Father Poster

Okay, I’ll admit this gift is probably going to be cuter to all the mom’s out there rather than dads, but your dad will still find this personalized poster super cute, and he’ll, of course, love making his wife happy by hanging this up on the wall, right next to the mother poster of course. It can be personalized as well, so put your father’s name on it!

Personalized Mug

This mug is so adorable! I’m a huge fan of the font. It’s so modern, simple, sleek, and fun. If you’re looking for an easy, yet still a wonderful gift, this is the mug to buy. Another thing I like about it is that it doesn’t look like a plain old novelty gift. It looks like a mug that any dad would actually be proud to use!

Children’s Personalized Engraved Dog Tag

To me, this is one of the most meaningful gifts that I think dads will treasure for a long time. Young children can sketch a doodle of their father and have it engraved on this personalized dog tag. Older children can write messages as well. This will last a lifetime, and I think that’s the greatest thing ever.

Beard Oil Sampler

I myself am not the biggest fan of facial hair, but for all the dads who love to rock beards, why not get them something to keep their beards looking clean and handsome? This beard oil sampler will give your father a little taste of beard grooming, and if he likes it, get him an even bigger kit!

Papasaurus T-Shirt

Papasaurus Rex is in the house! Dads and I share something in common, we like dad humor. I think this t-shirt is hilarious, and I hope your dad will think it’s hilarious too! If not, what kind of dad is he? I thought dad jokes were a universal thing.

Personalized Wallet

Who doesn’t love something that’s nice and personal? Those are the most heartfelt kind of gifts. This personalized wallet can hold whatever small message you’d like. Tell your dad you love him, or whatever else you want to say. It will mean a lot to him, and he can keep money in this little wallet.

Soap

Homemade soap. It smells amazing and feels amazing too. After a long, tough day at work, treat your dad to a nice bar of soap for his long-awaited relaxing shower. There are plenty of scents to choose from, so there is something for every dad out there.

Did you find a Father’s Day gift that you loved? Something that your dad will cherish forever? There’s plenty of more gifts out there, so keep looking until you find that perfect gift he’ll never forget.

Giant Thor’s Hammer Replica Is only for the Pure of Heart (and the Massive)

Look at this enormous hammer! It looks just like a giant version of Thor’s mighty Mjolnir from the Avengers flicks. Though this implement is made of foam, so I guess that means a mere mortal could wield it.

NECA’s oversize Mjolnir replica stands 4 feet tall. I’m not sure if it can stand on its beveled edge like it does in the movies, but they show it that way in one of the pictures.

What you see here is a prototype and the final version is pending licensor approval. There is no word on when approval might come, but when it does you can buy this giant hammer for yourself.

The giant hammer will ship in a single box; likely a massive one.
