Nendo’s power bank uses muscle-power to charge!

A phone with low battery is scary, but you know what’s truly scary? A power-bank with low battery. It’s a good thing Nendo’s Denqul charger builds in a failsafe. With an extendable baton, a swivel hinge, and an internal dynamo, you can quite literally charge your power-bank with a little kinetic energy. Just swivel the baton and the circular motion gets the power-bank charging. A couple of minutes of vigorous swiveling should not only be a great substitute for cardio, but should also give your phone a little juice.

You can then either plug your phone directly into the Denqul charger using a conventional cable (the slim Denqul easily fits in bags too), or use the Denqul with its office table-top set that comes with a charging cup that wirelessly juices your phone while you’re at your desk. Yes, there’s a slick little pen-stand too!

Nendo’s minimal, skeletal cutlery design has a functional purpose

nendo_skelton_1

Elegant and elegantly different, Nendo’s minimal cutlery design looks the way it does for a reason. The eye-catching scoop detail not only gives the cutlery visual character, it also helps you rest/dock your spoons, forks, and knives easily on a rack, stand, or even against other cutlery.

Designed for Belgian furniture and home accessories brand Valerie Objects, the cutlery series is aptly titled ‘skelton’, after its bony, skeletal appearance. It comes PVD coated in four different colours, silver, black, copper and gold to provide an anti-scratch and dirt-repellent surface.

Nendo puts imagination and delight into container lids!

Saying goodbye to the age old screw-on lids, Nendo’s Air Lids base themselves on physics and human behavior, looking peculiar yet playful, and delighting users with their functionality and inventiveness, as they challenge your notion of what lids should look and behave like. The result is an incredibly creative sets of reimagined lids, based on human needs like measured pouring, scooping, pinching, etc.

Crafted from fluoroelastomer, a food-grade material that feels “silkier” than regular silicone and has high elasticity while being chemical and stain-resistant, the air lids invoke actions like pinching, pushing, scooping, pulling, etc. The Pick-Up Lid lets you grab a pinchful of seasoning from the glass receptacle without making any contact with the food, while the Pinch Lid reveals a small scooping spoon when pressed. There’s also a Press Lid that opens up a diaphragm to allow easy pouring. A Pull Lid allows you to temporarily open the top of a bottle by relocating the sphere closing it, and a personal favorite is the push lid, that uses displacement to pour liquids such as oil out of a container without as much as even lifting the container, or wasting a single drop of oil!

The Air Lids were showcased at the Milan Design Week in 2018 and aim to highlight and symbolize a relationship between human and object. Rather than taking tha status quo for granted, Nendo’s Air Lids are much more experience driven and generate a variety of emotions from the user, from curiosity to awe to eventual delight, staying with the users in their memories long after they’ve finished interacting with them!

A Sculptural Twist on the Speaker

bunaco_01

This has gotta be one of the most beautiful and bizarre standalone speakers we’ve ever seen! It explores using narrow, rolled strips of beech wood to create coil based shapes – a technique that’s been used in decorative items and light fixtures for ages. While the dangling spiral shape is what’s most apparent, the tighter coil at the top is perfectly structured for pure sound delivery.

It produce a uniquely clear and soft tone with little distortion. The clear acrylic cylinder gives users a window into the inner woodwork, making it possible to see the unfinished edge left spiraling down from the center. It’s at once an aesthetic accent and a way for users to comprehend the structural functionality and incredible craftsmanship that went into its production.

Dog Accessories Designed by Nendo

Heads or Tails is by far the best looking set of doggy accessories I’ve seen. A three-piece collection, consisting of a dog bed, dishes and toys. The artificial leather bed becomes a little hut when dogs burrow inside it, and a cushion when they lie on top. The ceramic dishes are reversible, with a shallow dish for food on one side and a deeper dish for water on the other, and the silicon rubber ‘bone’ can be reshaped into a ball by tucking in the two ends.

Okay, for serious. Dogs could care less what their “accessories” look like so this is obviously a play for indulgent and style-minded owners. Almost all dog accessories veer towards the cute so it’s nice to see something so outside the proverbial box. I’d buy it. I’d totally buy it whether or not my dog hates it because it looks so damn good. And that reversible bone/ball thing? BRILLS MAN! THAT’S JUST BRILLS!

Nendo/Logitec Stylo Bluetooth Headset Looks Like a Sci-Fi Communicator

I admit to owning a Bluetooth headset. This was years ago, and I was often driving in my car, so I needed one to field calls from employees, as well as my bosses and clients. Needless to say that these days, I don’t need one, and rarely talk on my phone. However if you need to talk often on your smartphone, then this Nendo-designed headset looks like a cool choice.

Nendo(JP) designed this ultra-modern headset, called Stylo – the French word for pen – since it looks kind of like one. They designed it for the Japanese company Logitec(JP) (not to be confused with Logitech (WTF?)).

They used anodized aluminum sections for the main housing, and the mechanical guts are packed into a stylus-like shape, which can clip to a front pocket when not in use. The lightweight, 8-gram device has a rechargeable battery that provides you with 5 hours of talk time.

It’s already available in Japan from Logitec and sells for ¥3,480 (~$44 USD).

Nendo Dark Noon Watches for Those That Prefer The Dark Side

Do you like dark or colorful watches? If you gravitate towards the dark side, then check out these watches that the Japanese studio Nendo designed for the Danish watch company Noon. They are part of the Dark Noon collection and all have black faces, and white lines accented with gold.

Each of these watches uses disks and dials to make it somewhat unique. This is in stark contrast to the rest of the Noon watches, which are all very colorful and bright, with changing patterns as dials move across each other. These watches each have unique and distinctive faces, and there are five watches in this collection, including a limited edition.

The prices of the collection haven’t yet been announced, but most of the other watches from Noon cost between €50 to €150 ($62-187).

Running Water Faucet iPhone/iPad Stand

iphone faucet stand Running Water Faucet iPhone/iPad Stand
Make your iPad or iPhone clearly stand out with this running water faucet stand. Designed by Nendo for Japanese accessory maker Elecom, it’s made of polycarbonate plastic with ABS faucet parts. If you asked me the faucet looks like it’s backwards- the water should be pouring out of the iPad. But it’s still pretty neat.

Let my information flow… I don’t see it on Elecom’s site, so no word on availability or pricing right now.
