BREAKING: Carl Pei’s Latest Brand “CMF” is launching a Smartwatch, TWS Earbuds, and GaN Charger

Earlier this year, Nothing teased a sub-brand by the name of CMF with nothing more than just a logo reveal. Today, leaked images obtained by Twitter-user @techleakszone show three CMF products in the works. We upscaled these low-res images to get a clearer picture of the three products – a smartwatch, a pair of TWS earbuds, and a 65W GaN charging brick, all scheduled for an end-September release in India. All products have one thing in common – the use of a vibrant orange that draws instant attention to them, in a way contrasting Nothing’s transparent approach to design rather wonderfully!

This is an AI-upscaled Image (Ignore warped graphics on product)

The most prominent of the products is the smartwatch, which is priced at a budget-friendly ₹4499 ($54.48 USD) and comes with a 1.96″ AMOLED always-on display. Styled to somewhat lock horns with other budget watches/wearables like the Fitbit, the CMF smartwatch comes with an aluminum alloy case and a silicone band. A 330mAh battery gives it up to 13 days of use on a single charge, and the wearable works as a comprehensive fitness/sports tracker with support for 110 sports, along with features like heart-rate monitoring, blood-oxygen monitoring, stress monitoring, sleep tracking, etc. The spec sheet below compares the watch with other budget smartwatches on the Indian market, comparing features along with an incredibly competitive price tag.

This is an AI-upscaled Image (Ignore warped graphics on product)

The second product (code-named Corsola) is a ₹3499 ($42.3 USD) pair of TWS earbuds designed to compete with other brands in the low-budget segment. CMF’s earbuds are significantly different in appearance from the Nothing Ear (2) earbuds. They aren’t transparent, and they come in a circular case instead of a square one. The earbuds have up to 45dB of active noise cancellation and an impressive 37-hour battery life with the charging case. Just like the Ear (2), they are IP54-rated as well, although at half the price.

This is an AI-upscaled Image (Ignore warped graphics on product)

The third is probably the most interesting product of the lot – a GaN charger designed to compete in the accessories market and probably bring in the green for CMF by selling to both Android and iOS users alike. In a world where phone makers are increasingly deciding to ditch the idea of packaging chargers along with their phones, CMF’s 65W GaN charger makes quite an impact. With three ports (two USB-C and one USB-A), the charger can simultaneously power three devices, giving you a multifunctional power brick that takes care of your phone, tablet, and earbuds or power bank. The GaN semiconductor keeps the charging brick’s size extremely compact, and that bright orange color means you’ll never misplace it! The charging brick is expected to have a ₹2499 ($30.2 USD) price tag at launch a month from now.

Apple Reportedly Working On A “Watch X” For The Smartwatch’s Upcoming 10th Anniversary

It’s safe to say that the Watch was truly Apple’s first BIG product launched without Steve Jobs. Debuted in 2015, the Watch slowly but surely became one of Apple’s most valuable offerings, transforming from a fashion wearable into a life-saving piece of tech… and apparently, Apple has major plans to celebrate its 10th year anniversary, quite similar to how Apple debuted the iPhone X in 2017 to mark the iPhone’s decade-dominance.

News of a rumored Watch X broke on Power On, Mark Gurman’s weekly newsletter for Bloomberg, where he described the Watch X as the smartwatch’s biggest overhaul. “With the X model, Apple designers are working on a thinner watch case and have explored changing the way bands are attached to the device,” Gurman said. It isn’t clear if Apple will be transitioning to a new design or shape (given how far the WatchOS has come), but it will mark a significant shift in the watch’s design – mirroring what Apple did for the iPhone X.

Apple Watch Concept by Fraser Leid

Apple originally announced the Watch in 2014 and began preorders in 2015. Gurman mentions that it’s unclear if Apple will celebrate the wearable’s 10-year anniversary in 2024 or 2025, but is pretty confident that this year’s Watch Series 9 isn’t going to see any significant aesthetic changes or major upgrades. Rumor has it that the Watch Ultra will get satellite connectivity – a feature that Apple’s been working hard on condensing down to the format of a wearable.

As far as the Watch X goes, Gurman goes into detail talking about how it may eschew the existing watch strap system for a magnetic strap attachment protocol. This new system could help save space within the Watch for a bigger battery. The Watch X may also upgrade from OLED to MicroLED displays which would offer much better color representation and overall clarity… and if past rumors are any indication, hopefully, a non-invasive glucose monitoring system which would be one of the most significant innovations of this decade!

If Apple and Casio ever collaborated for a smartwatch, this would be it

Sweden-based Teenage Engineering is no stranger to creating stranger things! This smartwatch, however, is not a new concept from their inventive camp. Rather, it comes courtesy of a design house from another part of the world – Japan to be precise.

Amalgamating the elements of a digital watch with that of the good old mechanical timepiece, the concept design holds a lot of weight when it comes to satiating the lust of the pickiest of geeks.

Designer: Carl Hauser

The inspiration for this unique timepiece comes from the craving for the best of both worlds. That is, the reliable Apple Watch and rugged Casio watches. Carl never felt amused by the battery life of Apple’s smartwatch and ultimately switched to a Casio. Then came the realization of a hybrid watch that has a big dial with physical buttons to set the timer or navigate the menu. Also, these buttons could double as watch hands to denote the current time. The display with more than the desired notch (remember there are physical buttons on top) shows the current time in either analog or digital format.

Keeping the hybrid element of the two inspiring brands alive, the smartwatch has a square dial with a robust build for the toughest of adventures. The silver watch dial and buttons are contrasted with the slightly darker silver strap. To keep the industrial-styled design going, the watch gets prominent screws on the front on each of the three sides. The fourth one is a reset button completing the look with a bit of quirkiness.

There are vents on either side of the watch, signifying the presence of inbuilt speakers to answer calls or else, just to keep the innards cool. Either way, the designer has not detailed its purpose. In fact, there are scanty details about the features, and we would have loved specific information. That said if ever a collaborative smartwatch between Apple and Casio is made, this would be it!

How about upping Apple Watch’s style quotient with Y24’s durable case

Want to elevate your Apple Watch appeal to the next level without breaking the bank? Then you should consider the bold look of Apple Watch cases designed by Y24 which is a fresh offshoot brand of Swedish label Golden Concept renowned for its luxury offerings at a steep price tag.

Y24 gets the high price tag out of the equation while offering similar quality, and that’s what the average Apple user wants. The cases offered by the brand transform the look of the wearable while keeping all the functionality well intact.

Designer: Y24

The price-friendly collection launched by the brand is inspired by the lifestyle of Tokyo, and the cool vibe resonates in each one of them. This virus detecting smart watch alerts wearer of dangerous pathogens in the environment

Pandemics like Covid-19 disrupt more than just normal life and aftermath can be equally painful. We’ve all seen how dangerous the spread of a potentially deadly virus can be when it’s mutating faster than one can even bring a solution to the drawing board.

This calls for the perfect opportunity to bring in a wearable capable of detecting potentially deadly viruses in the environment and staying clear of harm’s way. Case-in-point a smartwatch that’s like your early warning system against microscopic predators. Other than this vital function, the smart wearable does all the advanced health tracking.

Still in the concept stage and yearning for a technological leap, the smartwatch dubbed VICLONE sucks in the surrounding air particles to trace the presence of any known viral infectants. From the watch face upwards, turbulence is created so that nothing can escape the cyclone of air. Small vents along the outer periphery of the watch dial – between the display and the body – absorb the surrounding air.

This smart gadget is specifically conceptualized for people who are prone to allergens and infections. As soon as a virus or allergen is detected, the screen on the wearable turns red and vibration input is there for quick alert. On the rear of the watch display lies all the advanced sensors to keep a close tab on health metrics like heart rate, oxygen levels, stress level and more.

The watch display can be untethered from the main body to clean the baseplate since a lot of impurities and toxins are going to be sucked. They need clean up from time to time and the wearer can do it easily with a clean microfiber cloth. VICLONE can be charged like any other smartwatch, so no hassles there.

While technological innovation is going to play the key role in the development of such a wearable capable of detecting viruses, I do think it is going to set the tone sometime in the future when we jockey around to survive in a dystopian world battling with the perils of climate change or a major pandemic never before seen in the history of mankind.

Starfield-themed Xbox controller, headphones and smartwatch are must-have for action RPG lovers

At the annual Xbox Games Showcase 2023, Microsoft laid a major emphasis on its upcoming sci-fi RPG dubbed Starfield, along with the announcement of other major titles coming to the platform. But the highlighting bit for us was the announcement of Starfield Xbox controller and Starfield headphones.

At the event publisher Bethesda also unveiled the real-life version of Starfield’s Constellation Edition watch that’s modeled exactly after the one seen in the game. During the keynote, Bethesda made it clear that the timepiece is modeled after the design from the Apollo era and gets a special case to match the vibe.

Designer: Microsoft and Bethesda

Bethesda’s highly anticipated game is all set for a September 6th launch – thereby, the announcement of these accompanying accessories makes complete sense. First up we talk about the Starfield Limited Edition controller and headset that both complement each other.

The controller emulates the ship’s controls shown in the game with transparent pad triggers having bronze rumble motors and those metallic bronze hybrid directional pads add steampunk flair. Bethesda describes the retro design as a “NASA-Punk” in the DNA and I second that completely. On top of the clean design are the side and back grips mirroring the panels of the spaceship. The gamepad is easily switchable between devices like Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Windows PC, Android, and iOS.

Similar accents can be seen on the headset which gamers will absolutely love to wear all day long – whether gaming or listening to favorite music. It has a similar matching transparent and metallic bronze mic boom, elevating its look into the premium zone. The 312 grams wireless headphones come with, 40mm drivers, 15 hours battery and support for spatial audio technologies for greater immersion. The gamepad and the headphones can be pre-ordered right away for an ERP of $79 and $125 respectively.

Coming onto Starfield’s Constellation Edition timepiece that the main character wears, Bethesda has perfectly emulated it in real life with seamless phone connectivity. The watch comes with a collector’s case and steelbook copy of the game. While the watch in real life is more of a smartwatch beaming notifications and call prompts, in-game the watch behaves as a compass to show environmental information for planets.

This watch will only be available as part of the Constellation Edition priced at $300. The bundle gives 5-day early access to the Starfield game along with other goodies including Constellation Skin Pack, Constellation Patch and access to the digital artbook.

Sony smartphone with a smartwatch dock doubles as secondary display to flash important notifications

Sony is ready to take on the big guns of the smartphone arena with Xperia 1 V flagship slated for September 2023 launch. The device will come with flagship hardware to please nerds and ultimately the buck will stop at how software-hardware integration works in real-life scenarios.

Till the time we get our hands on Sony’s latest and greatest smartphone, how about letting the imagination loose for a unique gadget that’s two separate devices but functions as one when required?

Designer: Shantanu Maheshwari

This concept is all about utilizing the back panel of a flagship Xperia device into a dock for a smartwatch dial. Dubbed Sony Smart Switch Ecosystem, the proposed Xperia WX710 phone here makes judicious use of reverse charging, while getting a cool secondary display. When the smartwatch dial is secured to the back of the phone, the visual interface changes to show only important phone notifications. This prevents you from religiously checking the main display for any missed notifications, and eventually getting stuck down the rabbit hole wasting time scrolling down content.

The mode is activated as soon as you put the smartphone face down during meetings or online work regimes. It’s like a trimmed-down secondary foldable device interface, without the nuances of the flashy gadget. When the smartwatch dial is docked in, the wearable starts drawing current from the phone and once it’s fully juiced up, the wireless charge stops. So, practically speaking you’ll not have to carry a separate charger for your Xperia smartwatch as long as you keep the WX710 phone topped up.

Still in the concept stage, the proposed ecosystem of a phone and watch is an interesting combo that not only Sony but other smartphone makers can derive inspiration. After all, the smartphone design has maxed out in evolution and a niche functionality like this one can freshen up things again. Only if the smartphone makers can ensure the phone’s back panel has secure MagSafe-like snap-and-hold properties!

Galaxy Watch 6 Classic leaked images reassure the comeback of rotating bezel

Galaxy Unpacked event rumored for July this year will likely see the release of the next-generation foldable line-up and smart wearables. Even before the South Korean electronics giant breaks silence on the Galaxy Watch 6 series, the inevitable leaks and rumors will set the tone for what’s coming our way.

Going by what reliable tipsters have to say, the wearable will come in two different versions. One of them is going to be a classic variant, and the 5K renders of this premium option is what reliable leakster OnLeaks has released out in the public domain. MySmartPrice has dissected these convincing-looking images for their face value to give readers a better idea of what Samsung will offer.

Designer: Samsung

Dubbed Galaxy Watch 6 Classic, the smartwatch gets a rotating bezel just like the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. The frame elevates between the buttons and gives the watch a distinct appeal. Although slightly thinner, the thick bezel which encapsulates a circular display measures 1.47 inches on the larger model. Tipster Ice Universe had earlier announced in a tweet about 100 percent confirmation of this screen size that’s going to be bigger than the Watch 5 Pro and have a higher resolution of 470×470 pixels.

The smartwatch is also rumored to have a 425mAh battery which is bigger than the 361mAh on the Watch 4 Classic. In fact, GalaxyClub (Dutch tech blog) confirmed that Watch 6 lineup will have larger battery capacities with the 40mm dial version getting 300mAh and the 44mm variant having 425mAh. Compare this to the 284mAh and 410mAh on the last year’s models respectively. According to them, the smartwatch will have the upgraded Exynos W980 processor for a 10 percent improvement in performance.

Some inspiration from the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro can also be seen with the flat edge on side, brushed metal finish and the magnetic loop clasp band. For those who loved the rotating bezel on one of the older versions, this could be good news. Also, we could see the end of life for the Pro model in this year’s smartwatch line-up.

Samsung seems to have kept the left edge quite flush, whereas the right edge houses the Home and Back buttons. While in the images only the black colorway of the strap is shown, we can expect it to come with more color options. If these OnLeaks renders are the real deal, then one could expect many takers for this nostalgic yet modern wearable.

Garmin Instinct 2X Solar smartwatch with LED flashlight touts unlimited solar-powered battery life

After hitting the right notes with its Instinct Crossover – an undeniable amalgamation of analog watch and smartwatch features – Garmin has tinkered with the solar panels on the Instinct 2X Solar to provide it with unlimited battery life in smartwatch mode.

With a boost of nearly 50 percent in energy production using the sun, the Garmin Instinct 2X Solar is designed for enthusiasts who prefer to spend time in the great outdoors. Since Garmin takes military and law enforcement professionals as serious clients, it has brought the extra charging capability for their liking in a Tactical Edition of the Instinct 2X Solar.

Designer: Garmin

Garmin has introduced two – Instinct 2X Solar and Instinct 2X Solar Tactical Edition – models. Both are priced at a difference of $50: the standard option costs $450, while the Tactical Edition retails for $500.

The new edition Instinct 2X Solar comes in a relatively large, 50mm polymer case which is designed with military-grade shock, water, and thermal resistance. With U.S. military 810 standards certified protection and 100 meters of water resistance, the smartwatch is packed with the usual activity, fitness, and health tracking features.

Designed for military ops, the Instinct 2X Solar Tactical Edition does a little more: It features night vision compatibility and has Garmin’s Jumpmaster mode for calculating high-altitude points during skydiving or parachute jumps. It also has a Stealth Mode integrated, which disables connectivity and leaves the watch only showing GPS data that is not saved on the watch.

In addition to sleep, blood oxygen, and heart rate monitoring, the smartwatch comes with routine tracking features for cycling, swimming, running and other such fitness activities. Interestingly, the Instinct 2X Solar models are added with a new feature for tracking the wearer’s performance during obstacle course events. You can manually record the splits in the first loop, and then the watch will do it automatically as you focus solely on the activity.

Garmin has improved the GPS connectivity on the Instinct 2X Solar (as expected in a model revision). The watch supports multi-band GNSS for more precise accuracy and also gets the signature Tracback feature to guide you back to the starting point in the wilderness.

An exquisite highlight of the new Instinct 2X Solar models is the integration of a LED flashlight, which is the first for any of Garmin’s smartwatches. Located on the top of the watch, the flashlight boasts adjustable brightness levels and a choice between red or white light. For the street smart, the smartwatch comes in handy during on-the-fly payments over Garmin Pay and Garmin app connectivity for enhanced capability.
