This LED Lamp Is Powered by a Tiny Candle

We all take electricity for granted. I hate to sound like your parents, but there are parts of the world were they don’t have electricity. The Lumir C is perfect for those folks since it is supposed to work without batteries or any electrical source. It’s also perfect for camping or in situations where the power goes out.

lumir_1zoom in

It works by harvesting the heat produced from a burning candle. A lot of the energy given off by a candle goes right into the invisible portion of the electromagnetic spectrum, being released as heat-carrying infrared radiation. The Lumir C harvests this wasted energy and uses it to power its LED light. Like magic. But really it’s science.

The lamp gives off a light output of 15 lumens using four 0.2W LEDs. That’s about as much as a candle, true, but you also have the light from the burning candle at the same time.

So what this does is it effectively doubles the output from a candle. It’s a $59 pledge on Kickstarter and it will ship in July. It could be great for mood lighting too.

A Lighthouse for Your House

lumir_01

Taking inspiration in both form and function from lighthouses, Lumir C serves as a beacon of light for the home! What sets it apart is a truly unique power source. The LED lamp draws energy from the heat of a candle without any external electricity. No batteries and no cables make it an eco-friendly alternative. Users can enjoy both the warm glow (and even scent) of their favorite candle and the optional, wider illumination of the top-mounted LED. Check out the vid to see it in action!

Stay Puft Marshmallow Man Candle: Who Wants S’Mores?

One of those classic flicks from the ’80s was Ghostbusters. The new remake is using an all female cast and I hope it is as good as the original, but I sort of doubt it. Fans of the franchise will surely know the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. I suspect he is cousin to the Michelin Man. This fun collectible looks like ol’ marshy, in candle form.

The 8″ tall candle is scented and smells like roasting marshmallows. You don’t need an unlicensed nuclear proton pack on your back to light it either; all you need is a cigarette lighter or a match to get the party started.

So try and think of something that could never ever possibly destroy us and head on over to Firebox to get yours now for about $30(USD).

Hatching Dinosaur Candle: Phoenix Raptor

We’ve seen Pokéball soaps and bath bombs with toys hidden inside them. Firebox came up with a similar gimmick, but with a candle and an actual, albeit, extinct animal.

The Hatching Dinosaur Candle measures about 5.5″x 5.5″x 6.2″. As it burns, it will reveal a porcelain figurine of a baby velociraptor. The raptor will be covered with soot as the candle continues to waste away, but you can easily wipe the little fella clean.

Firebox is selling the candle for ~$45 (USD) each, but it won’t ship until 2016.

Star Wars Scented Candles: The Light Side of the Dark Side of the Force

Just because you’re a bad guy doesn’t mean your lair has to literally stink. Clean up your act with Etsy seller Zeitgaiss’ unofficial Star Wars scented candles. They come in three variants: Darth Vader, Stormtrooper and Royal Imperial Guard.

While Zeitgaiss doesn’t mention the candles’ dimensions, it does say that each one lasts for up 45 hours and can fill a 225sq.ft. room with its scent. Vader has a lavender scent, while the stormtrooper is cinnamon, nutmeg and clove, and the Imperial Guard smells like cedarwood, orange and patchouli.

This Candle Holder Extinguishes Its Flame to Prevent Fires

People love candlelight, and by people I mean women mostly. If they had more Marvel and DC Comics themed candles, then guys might be more into them. Anyway, Moment is a candle holder created by designer Lars Beller Fjetland. It extinguishes a candle’s flame when it starts to burn too low.

self_extinguishing_candle_1zoom in

It is a simple design that could help to prevent fire, and had anyone else thought of it, we should have been using it for ages now. Of course, even with something like this you should never leave a candle unattended.

It’s simple. You just let the candle burn like normal and when it reaches a certain point, that lid comes down and puts out the flame. Simple and effective.

Redneck Scented Candles Light Up Twitter

This morning hashtag #RedneckScentedCandles is the top trending hashtag on Twitter. The usual Twitter response to a top trending hashtag is to miss-use it to promote other stuff. Some is related...

Atari 2600 Joystick Candle: Coldbreaker

Control the darkness with the Atari 2600 joystick candle. Etsy shop Kescha66 says the mold for the candle was made from an actual Atari joystick, which explains why the candles also have the Atari logo at the bottom.
