This cabinet is designed to help you organize + sanitize your clothes and accessories

I am not the most organized person. Sure, I can organize my notes and files but when it comes to things like my books, journaling stuff, and especially my clothes, you’ll find them strewn around in different parts of my apartment. I will occasionally get the urge to fix stuff but most of the time, I live in my own world of organized chaos. Of course, I want to improve this part of myself so if there are accessories or furniture that can help me out, I would be interested. This is the claim of this concept for a minimal mini-cabinet, although it’s hard for me to imagine how it will help me change my storage habits.

Designer: Yujin Lee for 210 PD.GROUP

Evelopper is a concept for an alternative clothing storage solution that doesn’t involve using your couch, bed, or even exercise system to “store” various pieces of clothing. At first glance it looks like a stereo or a mini dishwasher or just a piece of furniture to store stuff. Well, it is indeed the latter but more specifically, it’s to help organize your clothes and other related accessories. It’s basically like a bookshelf but there are separate hangers for various sizes of clothes. There’s also trays in various sizes on top of the cabinet where you can place watches, jewelry, and other accessories related to your outfit or getup.

Aside from storage, the cabinet also has a UV light to sanitize your clothes. This may not be a feature that is important to a lot of people whose clothes are mostly clean if they’re put into cabinets or storage (or so we assume) but for those who are concerned about getting rid of germs before wearing clothes, this will be a bonus point. It comes in three color options: navy blue to allow it to blend in most color schemes, classic white for a clean feel, and dark green for “stability and antiquity”. You can also open and close the cabinet through various controls located at the top.

It would have been more interesting if the renders showed how actual clothes would look in this cabinet. Because of the size and the product renders that don’t show any clothes, I have a hard time imagining how it would help me become more organized. Also, with the amount of clothes that I have, I would probably need several pieces of the Evelopper which would defeat the minimalist purpose. So probably I should start by getting rid of a lot of clothes in order to truly live a minimalist lifestyle.

This proves incredibly useful for wildlife photography, capturing candid moments, or shooting in situations where getting close to the camera may disturb the subject. Duo’s remote shooting capabilities give photographers the flexibility and control they need to excel in their craft.

The camera itself is a marvel of modern technology. The body comes with an included lens that delivers exceptional image quality. Whether it’s landscapes, portraits, or action shots,  its lens ensures sharpness and clarity in every frame. The control unit houses the screens and buttons, providing an intuitive interface for photographers to control their settings and access their shots. The combination of the camera body and control unit creates a seamless and efficient photography experience.

The duo is a game-changing camera that addresses the discomfort and challenges faced by photographers during long and challenging outdoor shoots. Its detachable screen and lens body provide unmatched maneuverability, allowing photographers to capture shots in even the most challenging environments. With Bluetooth-enabled remote shooting and a powerful camera body, Duo empowers photographers to elevate their work and explore new creative horizons. If you’re a photographer looking to take your outdoor photography to the next level, Duo is the camera that will be your ideal partner in every adventure.

House made from flax fiber may be the floating home of our future

We are not fully anticipating that there will be a day when water will fully cover the earth and we need to be floating around, living our lives amidst all that. But that is really a distinct possibility because of climate change, so inventors, product designers, architects, and other creative people are coming up with things that will enable us to live a possibly different kind of existence by that time. How are houses or living conditions going to look like in the future? This may be one of the solutions we can live with.

Designer: Institut auf dem Rosenberg and SAGA Space Architects

The Blue Nomad is a floating house designed by students, who may very well be the inhabitants of those very houses in the future together with a forward-thinking architectural firm. It is designed to be a permanent home for those that will travel and live on the water, specifically what may be known in the future as “modern nomads”. Other designers previously came up with concepts for houses living on the water but they’re more for those who will be staying in a permanent, single location.

The students who helped create the concept got their inspiration from the Outrigger, a boat made from organic materials used by Polynesian nomadic communities from centuries before. This new concept will be able to house two people and allow them to have two temporary guests. It will be made mainly from flax fiber and is more or less shaped like a small boat. The units can be connected together so neighborhoods or communities can also be built despite the nomadic culture.

The house would run on solar energy for all its needs including propulsion, electricity, and even food production and fresh water. The concept was brought to life through the help of artificial intelligence and the full scale prototype sis expected to make a 3000km voyage across Europe to test its viability.

Integrated salt and pepper shaker adds some style to your table

When you use a lot of salt and pepper for cooking and eating, you probably have separate containers for both. And while there are some pretty cute salt and pepper shakers available that can make dinner more interesting, there’s also room for some kitchen accessories that can hold both but separately. If you’re trying to add some more nice, cute, or minimalist things to your kitchen or dining table, a lot of product designers are coming up with interesting concepts, including this one for an integrated salt and pepper shaker.

Designer: Jonas Finkeldei

An Industrial Design student at the Academy for Design at Münster has come up with a concept for a minimalist-looking yet stylish salt and pepper shaker in just one piece. Stui is made from oak and beech and has two chambers that are separate for the two spices. The slider part has the darker color and can be moved up and down depending on which of the two that you need to come out of the sprinkling openings. The holes seem small enough that it’s easy to control how much comes out of it.

The shaker actually looks more like a harmonica at first glance because of its elongated shape. Unlike most of the salt and pepper shakers that have either a round shape and are made of mostly glass materials, this one has a bar-like design and uses a wooden aesthetic. There are of course a lot of other wooden shakers out there but this one makes it more convenient for you as you will just need one container for both spices and will not even mix them together.

While it’s still just a concept for now, it’s actually something that’s pretty feasible and can eventually be part of restaurants’ tables or your own. It’s actually pretty simple and the function is also simple, but well designed and interesting products like these are something we always watch out for.

Sleek Hitachi-inspired shower heater concept simplifies the process of getting hot water

When you take a shower in a hotel or an Air BnB, you rarely think about the design of your shower heater. All you care about is that it works and that you figure out how it works. There are a lot of times, at least in my experience, when I just open the shower and wait for the heater to do its thing. And if it doesn’t, then I’ll have to work with a cold shower as I have no patience to tinker with something that might just figuratively (or literally) blow up in my face.

Designer: Sinan Anayurt

This concept for a Hitachi New Shower Heater might be able to solve that heater problem. Not only is it designed to be unobtrusive and simple enough to use, it also aims to bring the simple Japanese aesthetics of minimalism with a priority on safety. And hopefully, it will just give you the right amount of heat that you need without you having to solve complex design problems.

The heater has a central circle which is the main “hearth” and is connected to the power button and the knob that determines how hot or cold the device should give you. The circular form and the convex shape lets the water flow over the heater. It also has a back design that is able to hide the piping details and gives you a slimmer heater that should not get in the way of your other bathroom activities.

The design for the new shower heater also makes sure that it is safe enough for your bathroom since it’s waterproof and will not put you in danger of electrical shock. The designer also says that the production is easy and the heater is slim enough to minimize the materials needed, therefore saving on costs and waste.

This wormhole-inspired table lamp design makes a great addition to the interiors of every space enthusiast

Time travel, multiverse, and wormholes have been in the pop culture consciousness for the past years because of sci-fi movies, series, and books. Of course it also crosses over to other things like product concepts and design as people have become fascinated with the concept of other worlds and other times. Not only does it cause our imaginations to run wild but it also brings about some deep thinking about life and the universe. So if you have something beside you that is inspired by the idea of wormholes, it should provide not just aesthetics but also meditative thoughts.

Designer: Will Gibbons

This concept for a table lamp was inspired by the Einstein-Rosen Bridge and wormholes. The Wormhole-Modern Side Lamp uses the scientific illustrations of this idea and so the lamp is a representation of this “shortcut” in the spacetime continuum. From the lamp itself to the wire attached to it, the designer was able to create elements that support the theory and interpreted it as a transport mechanism for light, just like it’s used as a metaphor or a literal concept in sci-fi movies.

Even if you’re not familiar with wormholes and the ideas associated with it, it won’t stop you from appreciating the minimalist beauty of the lamp design. He used colorless transparent plastic and the light from the LEDs to bring about the idea of gravitational lensing. He also used multiple layers of film to coat the plastic and bring about a “multi-colored refractive light”. The electrical wire meanwhile is supposed to represent the path that an astronaut travels through the wormhole, like in the movie Interstellar.

What you get is a table lamp that can look right at home in sci-fi movies or in homes that have a futuristic and minimalist aesthetic. I wouldn’t mind having a lamp like this especially if the colorfully refracted light will help me sleep well at night or help me meditate on the meaning of life.

This futuristic school bus designed with the help of AI uses inflatable pieces to add some fun to bus journeys

Anyone who has ever ridden a school bus to and from school has probably imagined their transport turning into a Magic School Bus or the Knight Bus the Harry Potter movies. Alas, we’re still stuck with the boring old buses that can only bring us to where we’re supposed to go. But thanks to Artificial Intelligence and some designers’ wild imagination, we can actually come with more interesting concepts that may someday become reality, or at least a more realistic version of it.

Designer: Shail Patel

An architect has tried to imagine what a futuristic school bus would look like if it was also where the students are studying and not just something that transports them. The Mutated School Bus was created with the help of AI design tool Midjourney and is both surreal and functional. In short, while it’s pretty fun and playful, it can become an actual practical mode of transportation and education someday even if for now it looks like something from a science fiction movie.

The bus looks like a rolling classroom with its multi-story stacked bus structure with the signature yellow color that a lot of school buses carry. With its vertical form that has a combination of circular, oblong, and square windows and rooms, it looks like something the Minions will fit right in with. The idea for the concept is to make these futuristic buses a fun mobile school that kids will look forward to, even if what they’re going to there mostly is study while going around the city.

Of course, there are a lot of practical things that you have to think about if ever this concept will become reality. The amount of energy it will take to power such a vehicle will not be something that Mother Earth will be happy about. What if the students have motion sickness? How will the bus be able to hold in place all the things that will be placed inside? Those are things that the product designers will have to think about eventually but for now, these are fun designs and maybe a vision of what mobile education will look like.

Minimal ‘mini’ home in the mountains of Turkey feels larger than it is

Designed by Bologna-based firm STUDIOFEM, this beautiful 484 square-foot home is called the Mini – a name that does it justice quite rightly in appearance, but not in character. Although the home is still a concept and hasn’t made it to the ground yet, it still manages to be quite a beauty. Architects Francesca Morsiani and Mujgan Merve Rinaldi plan to tuck away the home in the village of Cavusin, Nevsehir, Turkey, surrounded by mountains on all sides.

Designer: STUDIOFEM

The home features a rectangular structure that has been clad in dark brown vertical panels. The box-like form of the home is quite cute to look at it, and the wooden facade gives the home a rather rustic yet cozy look. The panels are intersected with floor-to-ceiling windows, that provide stunning views of the surrounding landscape while lending the space an air of openness and fluidity. The windows also impart the exterior with a sense of sleekness, which in combination with the panels give the home a pretty minimal and clean appearance. The floor-to-ceiling windows also ensure that generous amounts of natural light will continuously stream in throughout the day. They also help sustain a connection between the interiors and landscape, giving the impression that the inside of the home is larger than it seems.

Although the home occupies a tiny footprint, the interior feels quite open and spacious, offering views of the outside from all angles. The living space is open-plan with kitchen cabinets running along one wall before they transform into a built-in bench located at the entrance of the bedroom. It can be utilized to store and displays books and other souvenirs. The walls of the home have been kept pretty simple as well, lined with wooden panels, that add a bit of texture and rawness to the space.

The furniture also seems to be wooden, and it maintains the same minimal and neutral tone that has been followed throughout the home. The furniture pieces seem to be carefully curated, such that they perfectly complement the home, and do not contrast against it. The exterior, interior, and furnishings of the home line up together perfectly to create a living space that is warm, cozy, and inviting.

Diagonal sleeper car design is an innovative solution to increase comfort and space on an overnight train

Traveling by train cross-country or long-distance is probably not the most comfortable way you can go. But there are times when this may be the cheapest or maybe even the only option. The sleeper cars that are currently available, at least for the budget-conscious, may give you cramps, claustrophobia, and even nightmares. There’s always room to improve these kinds of compartments without forcing people to upgrade to the more comfortable but more expensive kind of train accommodations.

Designer: 2050 Lab

This design for a sleeper car not only makes it a bit more comfortable for those who will be spending overnight in the space but it will also let the train itself increase the number of seats per car. What they did was to design coupe-capsules with two tiers that are angled diagonally to create a herringbone structure. Each car is separated by a wall and a curtain to give each occupant a sense of privacy.

Each capsule has a sleeping space but also an extended berth as well as a window. There’s also a table in case you need to work at any time during the night. There’s also a space to place your luggage since most likely you’re carrying a piece or more to wherever you’re traveling to. Since there’s also a limited space, some functionalities serve dual purposes. For example the ladder and ledges that have built-in cushions can also serve as a standing rest.

The product renders for this concept make it look like a space that you wouldn’t mind spending 12 hours, or at least part of that, in when you’re traveling. Being a bit claustrophobic, I still would prefer to travel like this but it’s still a better alternative to the budget sleeper cars I’ve seen (through pictures and videos). It would be interesting to if the train manufacturer would eventually adopt this to an actual train.

Air purifier doubles up as a lighting fixture in your space with this 2-in-1 appliance

For people who love their homes or spaces to have a certain aesthetic, products that are both functional and decorative are very much welcome. If you have a small space, you would of course not want to have all sorts of decorations clutter it up (well, unless you’re a maximalist) if they do not serve any other purpose other than just be pretty. So if you find something that beauties up your place and at the same time performs a useful function, then you got yourself a winner.

Designer: Hanyoung Lee, Eunji Ko

This concept for an air purifier is just one of those designs that are both functional and decorative. Abell’s main purpose is as a device to help purify the air inside your room or house. But instead of just standing there in the room, it is actually a lighting device. It will not take up space on your floor or on your table but it can be hung up wherever you want and it will give you cleaner air and also light up the room. And if you’re into the minimalist, monochromatic look, then it can also serve as an aesthetic addition to your room.

If it’s not hanging up there, it looks like your ordinary air purifier with a mushroom-like design. You probably can also use it as a table or shelf-top purifier although it’s unclear if it will light up as well. But if the bulb is under there as the product renders seem to indicate, then the lighting function may be useless if you don’t put it up there. Now when you use it as both a purifier and a lighting fixture, there is a controller attached to it so you can adjust how much light it emits.

It would be interesting to find out some more details about the air purifying aspect of the device. During the pandemic and even now when we’re getting back to whatever constitutes as normal, breathing fresh air even when indoors is an important part of our living. So the quality of air purifying that Abell can give is an important aspect of whether or not someone would buy it, if it becomes a product eventually.
