DIY LEGO Christmas Ornaments Geek up the Holidays

LEGO builder Chris McVeigh has offered up some cool ornament designs in time for decorating your Christmas tree. Among his designs are these tiny arcade machines right out of the ’80s and a cool Christmas train.

The Christmas train looks like it is made from gingerbread and is complete with white smoke billowing out of the stack. I much prefer the arcade machines myself, but that’s just how I roll.

Serenity Ornament Geeks up Your Tree

Thanksgiving is this week and that means that many folks will be dragging out the Christmas decorations this weekend and putting them up. If you are ready to decorate your Christmas tree and you happen to like science fiction shows, you need this ornament.

The officially-licensed ornament is a miniature recreation of the Serenity from Firefly .It appears to be a somewhat shiny silver finish perfect for reflecting those twinkling lights. Nothing says I am a sci-fi geek like having this hanging on your tree.

You can cram it as far back in the tree limbs as you want to help hide it from Reavers. You can pick one up at ThinkGeek for $17.99(USD).

Smart Scents

Mist Shine is a clever wearable creation that combines smart tech, aromatics and fashion into one! The wearable design pairs with your smartphone and can be controlled with an app to release a scent when you receive a text or call from designated individuals or just anyone. Not only wearable, users can choose from a number of refillable cartridges and scents to tailor the aromatic environment of their workspace or home as well!

Another Use for Trolls: Treasure Troll Air Plant Pot

Treasure Troll Air Plant Pot

Remember those troll dolls that you used to collect back in the nineties? Well, they’re back in the form of these Treasure Troll Air Plant Pots, and they’re greener than ever. The makers of the pots have removed their signature mop of neon hair to make way for a living “wig” that you’re supposed to provide.

Looks like trolls have found a new use–and a new hairstyle in the process! Mother Nature would approve.

The Treasure Troll Air Plant Pots are sold for $35.

Here’s A Pretty Spice Rack

spice-rack-1

No one is going to get excited over a spice rack, let’s be honest. But if you’re in the middle of decorating a new home, you’ve probably realized that God is indeed in the details. While you might have spent a ridiculous sum on that chandelier, or that fancy stainless steel talking fridge, you’ll be sad if you can’t store your spices in a way that does them justice. For this reason, we kind of like the Cylindra Spice Rack:

A modular spice rack that can be freely placed on any counter or mounted on the wall, its petridish-like cover allows you to load spices cleanly or pinch as you like. A movable band in the middle slides smoothly to sprinkle a bit–or a lot–of flavour, as you place your cylinder on its perimeter.

And that’s enough said about this item. It’s $15.

Han Solo Frozen In Carbonite Door Decal

han-solo-carbonite-door-decal

You can’t help but be amazed at the longevity that the Star Wars franchise has, especially in the merchandise department. Granted, it’s partly because of people like us who constantly go on about all the things you can buy and who keep the brand alive, but we only do it because it still resonates with our readers. Take the above Han Solo Frozen in Carbonite Door Decal for example. It’s a life-size $140 sticker that you place on your door. And we bet some of you are going to think “hey, that’s pretty cool!” Matter of fact, we don’t even hate it; we’re just impressed that 36 years after the first film came out people are still buying this stuff. Whether that’s a testament to how good the movies were or about how effective a marketing effort the folks at ILS (or whoever is behind this movement) are making, we’re not going to speculate. All we can do is tell you a bit more about this sticker and move on: it’s repositionable, and is finished in matte but you can ask for it to be done glossy.

One-Of-A-Kind Web Of Plastic Caps Turns Bottles Into Fancy Vase

vase-2

As the technology matures, we’re starting to see an increase in 3D printed products hitting the market. It’s usually stuff you wouldn’t normally find in a store, but since these things don’t exist until you order the, they don’t take up valuable shelf or storage space. That’s how the Screw You Vase came into existence. It’s a matrix of 12 PET plastic bottle caps that accommodate standard bottles. The caps have a hole at the top, so once you’ve inserted your bottles, filled them with water and popped a flower in each, you’ve got yourself a unique vase that none of your friends is likely to have. Granted, you’re going to have to spend a pretty penny to get this, $150 to be exact, but we suppose that’s what happens with a time-consuming process like 3D printing.

Awesome Chandelier Casts Creepy Forest Shadows All Over Your Room’s Walls

Forms-in-NatureThe above chandelier is a “light sculpture” by designers Thyra Hilden and Pio Diaz, from the design firm HildenDiaz. When the light is switched on, it casts creepy, yet awesome shadows of vines or a forest all over your walls. It’s called Forms in Nature, and was “partly inspired by Ernst Haeckel’s (1834-1919) detailed plots from nature.” And although it currently only exists as a one-off unit, there are rumours that the pair is looking into launching a Kickstarter campaign after viral interest generated a large demand for the product. Until they do, however, we don’t know how much it could possibly cost or even when it might ever be available for purchase.
