JAWS Knife Sharpener: We’re Gonna Need a Bigger Kitchen

When it comes to your kitchen knives, you shouldn’t mess around. You want them sharp enough to cut cans. Because you never know when you might need to cut a can. It could happen. Anyway, the best way to sharpen a knife is obviously with shark teeth.

This ceramic shark knife sharpener is a shark head in the style of the JAWS poster and has an anti-slip base so you don’t end up as so much chum and attract others. This is an awesome design – both funny and smart.

Best of all it is only $25(USD) from Fancy, if you want it on your kitchen counter. Only trust a shark to get the sharpest edge on your knives.

Jaws Shark Ukulele: This Was No Crafting Accident

It’s the 35th anniversary of the release of Jaws this year, and the movie just got re-released in an awesome HD Blu-ray edition that you need to see if you haven’t already. In celebration of the shark-infested waters of yore, the guys from Celentano Woodworks have returned with another epic creation – the Jaws shark ukulele.

jaws ukulele 1

This awesome, handcrafted string instrument is sure to get a rise out of anyone with a fear of sharks, and is perfect for playing the familiar Jaws “dun-dun… dun-dun… dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun…” theme music (assuming you can play that on a ukulele.)

The ukulele’s body has been cut in the shape of a great white shark emerging from the water, and then adorned with a multitude of big, pointy teeth. The little image of the lady in the innertube is a nice touch on the head of the uke too.

It’s available over on Etsy for $700 (USD). As is the case with all of Celentano’s instruments, this uke will me made to order, and they already have a waiting list, thanks, I’m sure to classics like the Rock ‘em Sock ‘em and Autobot ukuleles. Oh, and here’s proof you can play the Jaws theme on a ukulele…

Must See HDTV (August 13th – 19th)

With the Olympics finally concluded, it's back to our regular programming. While that includes a number of premieres this week including such highlights as Oh Sit!, a musical chairs game show (really), Stars Earn Stripes and BBC America's first original series Copper, there's also a long list of anticipated Blu-ray releases like Shaft and this weekend, The Hunger Games. Look below for the highlights this week, followed after the break by our weekly listing of what to look out for in TV, Blu-ray and videogames.

Jaws

Just in time for Shark Week, Steven Spielberg's classic Jaws is here on Blu-ray looking and sounding better than ever. There's a bunch of special features included but the main attraction is that massive reason to never, ever go in the water again. Check out a quick clip about the restoration embedded after the break.
($17.99 on Amazon)

The Closer / Major Crimes

Tonight as The Closer ends with star Kyra Sedgwick leaving the show, Major Crimes picks up the baton as Mary McDonnell (of Battlestar Galactica)'s Captain Raydor takes over the unit. We'll see if the changeover happens smoothly enough to keep this police procedural humming, but there seems little reason to believe it won't.
(9 & 10 PM, TNT, August 13th)

The Raid: Redemption

This Indonesian martial arts flick contains some of the hardest hitting action sequences we've seen and definitely counts as a must-see for fans of hand to hand combat, currently rocking an 85 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Following a police unit trapped in a criminal-infested building on an ill-fated attempt to capture a gang leader, it doesn't have the largest budget of 2012 or the most plot development, but who needs those anyway? If you're still unsure about this one, check after the break for a featurette on the film's score as well as a claymation remake of many key scenes.
($19.99 on Amazon)

Jaws Bench is Like a Mini Sequel Starring You

I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t park my butt anywhere near this thing. It may be fake, but you never know when something is going to come alive through magic and kill you with its razor-sharp choppers. It’s just good to be cautious.

Anyway, if we had more benches like this, I’m sure that we would find that shark bench related injuries are all too common. Even if you just scraped your head on a tooth. This particular shark bench is on display at a shopping mall in Bangkok, Thailand.

I don’t know if they’re playing the Jaws music or not, but they really should. It’s the only safe way to know that you are in imminent danger of a shark attack. It’s a cool feature for a shopping mall though. Imagine if you could climb down into it’s belly for a nap. Though I think they’d have to rescue a lot of scared kids if they allowed that.

Jaws debuts on Blu-ray August 14th remastered and upmixed (video)

Image
Universal Pictures promised it would celebrate its centennial by bringing classics out of the vaults and onto Blu-ray discs and now one of our most anticipated flicks, Jaws, finally has a release date. Steven Spielberg's 1975 hit will come home in "digitally remastered and fully restored" form with an upmixed 7.1 DTS-HD MA soundtrack August 14th. The soundtrack and picture have both been carefully restored in a process undertaken in conjunction with Spielberg and Amblin Entertainment, as they went back to the original 35mm film and repaired it frame by frame. Also packed in will be four hours of bonus features, including an all new documentary The Shark Is Still Working: The Impact & Legacy of Jaws. If you're wondering about the restoration process, there are a couple of samples included after the break, plus a video about it and teaser trailer for the Blu-ray disc -- we're gonna need a bigger boat.

Infamous Mortal Enemies Giving Peace a Chance

attachment

Have you ever imagined what life on this planet would be like if we all loved each other – no enemies, no hate, no killing between man and animal. No stories about dark sides and right sides. No predators, no one being hunted. Utopia, right? Peace, eternal, ever lasting.

Sounds boring ...
