These Mops Have Gone to the Dogs

You know those dogs that look like mops? Well, these mops look like those dogs that look like mops. They are detachable mop heads available from Japanese online retailer Fellisimo and they are designed to look like Komondor dogs. Yeah, the ones that look like mops (or Rastafarians.) Now you can mop the floor and say, “Boy are my dogs tired!”

If you need a new mop head, this is the one to get. That other mop head? That dog don’t hunt. They are all bark and no bite. Make every cleaning day a dog day afternoon. These puppies will help. If I keep making jokes, I’m gonna be in the doghouse. Sorry. Couldn’t resist.

Thank you Japan for being you.

A Mop that Makes Sense

Now, here’s a design that’ll make you say DUH! However simple, the Levko mop features an innovation that makes plain, perfect sense. The long handle is hollow and features a handy spout at the mop end that makes it possible to funnel water directly into a bucket or other container. That means no more heavy, unstable lifting. It’s a total back-saver!

Mocoro Rolling Mop Ball Gathers no Moss, Only Dust Bunnies

It seems I can’t go more than a couple of days without finding another wacky Japanese gadget that seems to solve no real problem. Here’s another crazy product from the island nation. This robotic ball that works like a rolling dust mop.

mocoro dust mop 620x410magnify

While most of us would resort to using a vacuum cleaner or maybe a Swiffer to perform the task of sweeping up dust bunnies, the folks who designed the Mocoro rolling mop ball opted for something decidedly more whimsical.

Just release the Mocoro on your hardwood, tile or vinyl floors, and it’ll roll around collecting dust for about 15 minutes. Once it’s done, it’ll sing a little song to let you know its work is complete. It seems like a great idea until you realize that you have to wash it off between cleanings. The point is moot though, as your dog will probably use it as a chew toy before long anyhow.

Normally available only in Japan for ¥3,980 (~$40 USD), the folks over at White Rabbit Express should be able to help you get your hands on one.

Hands-Free Cleaning: Remote Control Mop

RC Mop

Can’t afford a Roomba? Well, here’s an alternative: the Remote Control Mop. You won’t be able to leave it alone and do the cleaning for you, but you will be able to clean your floors without bending over or doing any manual labor. The mop head has a small handle attached to it, though, for easy pick-up and for when you might want to push it manually into hard-to-reach areas.

It comes with a controller that looks like the ones that come with video game consoles. If you’ve ever played games or drove R/C cars, then you probably won’t have any trouble controlling the mop and making it clean the spots that you want it to.

You can check out a video of the mop in action after the break.

The Remote Control Mop is priced at $29.

iRobot gives Mint mopping ‘bot a new lease on life as the Braava

iRobot gives Mint mopping robot a new lease on life as the Braava

Wondering what would become of the plucky Mint 'bot after iRobot swept up its creator, Evolution Robotics? The company clearly thought it was time for a name change -- it's the iRobot Braava from here on out. The cleaner has inherited its older sibling's good looks, from the square build to the little diamond up top. Like the Mint, the Braava line pushes a cloth around your floor to pick up dirt instead of relying upon suction. It's got two modes: dry or damp, and in both cases is designed for a light cleaning in one go, rather than the Roomba or Scooba's multi-pass technique. There are two models, the 320 and the higher end 380t, which features some nice amenities like a faster charging battery and liquid dispensing. The Braavas are available now, starting at $199 at the source link below.

Moop The Mop

The Moop is a mopping system that not only helps clean up the room but also uses technology to its advantage. The electronic bucket has the capability of recycling the murky water, sanitizing it again for reuse. Although the designers have not explained the workings of this mop, but imagining a system where simple methods for recycling and reusing the water sounds like a good ‘green’ idea.

Moop is a 2013 iF Design award – concept design entry.

Kyosho EGG Sugoi R/C Bots Clean up Your Mess While You Sit on Your Lazy Ass

Oh, how I love wacky Japanese gadgets. And how I hate cleaning. So when Francesco over at Hobby Media[IT] tipped me off to these Japanese cleaning robots, I was just about in heaven.

kyosho dust garbage robots

These inexpensive robots from Kyosho don’t aim to be as sophisticated as something like a Roomba or Wall-E, but then they don’t cost hundreds of dollars either. The Sugoi remote control vehicles come in two versions – one that’s a dust mop, and the other is a trash bin on wheels. Both can be driven around using an included RF remote control, so you can clean without getting your lazy behind up off the couch. In case you need a visual explanation, check them out in the video below:

What’s not to like? I can imagine sitting on the sofa during the big game, and with a push of the button, in pops my R/C garbage can, ready to receive my empties. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to get these in time to clean up my mess after this year’s Super Bowl, since they’re currently only for sale in Japan.

You can find the garbage can here, and the dust mop here. They each sell for ¥2079 (~$21 USD), and you can try and see if someone like White Rabbit Express can import them for you. While you’re at it, you might want to pick up one of these.

Pet Sweep Puts Man’s Best Friend to Work

Now that you’ve already put your baby to work on buffing your floor until it’s shiny (thanks to the Baby Mop), why not do the same with all your four-legged pets?

After all, they’re on all fours all the time and walk around a lot. There’s no reason why you shouldn’t just take advantage of all their natural movement by letting wear the Pet Sweep on each of their paws.

Pet Sweep1
Each box of Pet Sweep contains four dust boots, which fits most paw sizes. Once they’re on, set your dog loose and watch all the gunk on your floor get swept away by the mop-like attachments on each boot.

Pet Sweep

Before you comment with disdain and disgust, let me come clean: it’s a fake. It’s just another one of the crazy conceptual products that the folks from Prank Pack have come up with. I’m sure you’ve heard of them by now. Basically, they churn out gift boxes with the most absurd products plastered on the outside so you can give the recipient a scare (and then a laugh) when you hand them their gift.

Though having your dog do some work around the house isn’t the worst idea ever…

Baby Mop Lets You Put Your Little Bundle of Joy to Work

My sister’s baby crawls around so much that the floor looks infinitely cleaner and shinier by the time she’s all crawled out.

Someone else must’ve apparently noticed this with their own babies, because why else would they come up with something as silly and amusing as the Baby Mop romper?

Baby Mop

It looks just like a regular onesie at first glance, but check out the front and you’ll see that it has some super-absorbent cleaning pads attached in strategic locations. Set your baby on the floor dressed in this romper and get ready to have your floors buffed and polished, baby-style.

I mean, why waste all that free baby labor, right?

Baby Mop1

All kidding aside, this would make a fun present for baby showers and will definitely elicit a whole lot of laughs from your family and friends.

You can get them here for $40 a pair.
