Downton Abbey Fights an Evil Butler with Lightsabers

As we gear up for the The Force Awakens to hit theaters, everyone is getting excited, and Star Wars stuff is turning up everywhere. I really like it when lightsabers pop up in weird places that have nothing to do with Star Wars. The perfect instance is that Koala with the lightsaber I mentioned before.

The cast of the PBS show Downton Abbey is clearly excited about Star Wars too. This video was made for charity, and features the real cast of Downton Abbey wielding lightsabers to fight a butler that is scheming to kill them.

It’s pretty weird to see Maggie Smith, clearly looking unimpressed by the butler, wielding a lightsaber. Give her a brown robe and she could totally be a Jedi. If this show had lightsabers in it all the time, I might even watch it.

Hipster Barbie Is The Best Thing To Happen To Instagram

Hipster Barbie Is The Best Thing To Happen To Instagram

Socality Barbie is a ridiculously perfect parody Instagram account. The page is run by an anonymous Oregon wedding photographer who created it because she was tired of seeing everyone on social media posting the same photos then using the hashtag #LiveAuthentic. I hear that! But my favorite part of all this is imagining the behind […]

Jurassic Park With Heels Is The Funniest Parody You’ll See Today

Jurassic Park With Heels Is The Funniest Parody You'll See Today

Youtube channel XVP Comedy posted this video called Jurassic Park: High Heels Edition. It’s basically Jurassic Park with heels. Yes, even the dinosaurs. Especially the dinosaurs. You ever seen a t-rex rocking a pair of stilettos? Because you haven’t lived until you’ve seen a t-rex rocking a pair of stilettos.

Dungeons & Dragons: Gangsta Edition

“As you’re running, you trip over your sagging jeans, so you take a -2 to your street cred.” Most tabletop RPGs are set in alien worlds and times long gone or have yet to come. But YouTuber Justen Mann and his crew show us that roleplaying as your contemporaries can still be fun.

Justen’s skit Dungeons & Dragons: Gangsta Edition features a dungeon master and three players discussing an adventure to a questionable urban neighborhood. The skit works because they don’t rub their jokes in. Their matter-of-fact delivery – especially the DM – makes the odd combination even funnier. Yes, there are timely shots at the cops, and yes there’s a lot of adult language in here.

Imagine if Rockstar made a Grand Theft Auto spinoff like this. Keep an eye on Justen Mann’s YouTube channel for future episodes.

Banana-shaped, Closed Source Arduino: WTFDuino

Programmer and electronic engineer Calum Knott fancies himself to be a reverse Steve Jobs. While Jobs championed simplicity and ease of use, Calum thinks microcontrollers are too sensible. So he undesigned the Arduino into the WTFDuino.

As you can see, the WTFDuino is in a highly impractical banana form, and Calum went out of his way to say that he will not share its PCB layout. Not that anyone would want to copy it.

One thing Jobs and Calum agree on is price. I’m not sure if he’s going to sell it for real, but Calum says you’ll have to pay him ~$23 (USD) for the displeasure of owning a WTFDuino.

Sweded Video Game T-shirts: Concept Farts

Here’s a fun idea for a gamer gift. Several NeoGAF forum members, egged on by member dog$, made custom video game-themed t-shirt designs that are funny, witty and most of all, ugly. The t-shirts are based on a custom clothing shop called CustomInk, which has an online T-shirt design tool. The rule of the thread? Only use CustomInk’s stock art for your design. Here’s one of dog$’ mighty contributions:

That of course, is based on the trailer for Final Fantasy XV. Here’s another complex design, from AlexMeloche:

Others used in-game references to amp up the humor, such as this one by Amorbis:

Some poked fun at video game controversies or glitches, such as this one by Webhead:

Some like DryvBy went way back for their references:

And then there’s BurritoBushido:

There are a couple of truly cool ones though, like this one by ichtyander:

…and this one by Funky Functionality:

Here’s mine. It’s nowhere near as good as the NeoGAF ones though. #BrokenLords #DustRulesEverythingAroundMe.

Set aside an hour of your life and give it a shot on CustomInk’s website. You can also browse NeoGAF for more inspiration.

Carrot: The Brilliant, Wireless New Device Coming out of Silicon Valley

People are always wondering what the next big thing is going to be, and the man behind this product says that it’s going to “massively disrupt” its segment. Carrot’s makers claim that it is an enjoyable experience for all of the senses, suggesting that users swipe with two fingers to enjoy its unique texture. The official website says, “From the moment you pick up your Carrot, you’ll notice the care and attention that went into every detail. The unique texture, the striking colors and the pleasing crunch provide a world class experience for each of your senses.” Better still, it’s totally portable and never needs charging; you can just take Carrot with you wherever you want.

Carrot is also already compatible with your favorite App(etizer)s, and beets by Dre. Carrot also has built-in update notifications, which is a feature that I have used on many occasions. The most exciting part, however, is the sneak peek of Carrot Mini at the end of the video. Be sure to check it out.

Pro Bono 1 Speaker Replaces Your Music with U2 Songs: Songs of Annoyance

A couple of weeks ago, after it unveiled the new iPhones and its smartwatch, Apple’s “one more thing” was… spam. The company gave away U2’s latest album Songs of Innocence for free to all iTunes users, making iTunes download it without people’s consent. Omer Shapira and Surya Mattu of Unstable Technology poke fun at Apple’s dumb move by making one douchebag of a speaker.

The Pro Bono 1 – pro bono means “for the public good” in Latin – speaker also has a microcontroller and a computer, with U2’s new album pre-loaded inside. When you connect a device and play music through Pro Bono 1, after a few seconds the speaker will replace whatever you’re playing with one of the songs from Songs of Innocence. To pile on the sarcasm, Omer and Surya made this Kickstarter-style presentation:

Masochists should head to Omer’s eBay page, where you can buy the Pro Bono 1 for $1,500 (USD).
