Virgil Abloh, CEO of Off-White, has passed away at the age of 41

Multidisciplinary celebrity designer, CEO of Off-White and the artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear collection, Virgil Abloh has passed away at the age of 41 after battling a rare form of cancer.

An architect by training, Abloh’s involvement with international fashion started with an internship at Fendi’s in 2009, alongside Kanye West. Following a year-long collaboration with the rapper, Abloh founded Off-White in 2012, and was also hired as the artistic director for menswear at Louis Vuitton.

In the announcement done via an Instagram post on Virgil’s account, the statement says, “For over two years, Virgil valiantly battled a rare, aggressive form of cancer, cardiac angiosarcoma. He chose to endure his battle privately since his diagnosis in 2019, undergoing numerous challenging treatments, all while helming several significant institutions that span fashion, art, and culture.”

“Through it all, his work ethic, infinite curiosity, and optimism never wavered. Virgil was driven by his dedication to his craft and to his mission to open doors for others and create pathways for greater equality in art and design. He often said, “Everything I do is for the 17-year-old version of myself,” believing deeply in the power of art to inspire future generations.”

Rest In Peace.

Braun x Virgil Abloh

Earlier this year, Abloh partnered with Braun to mark 100 years since the founding of the German design giant, by helping redesign the 1965 Wandanlage, a hi-fi audio wall unit as well as the BC02 alarm clock (showcased below).

The product in question is the 1965 Wandanlage, a hi-fi audio wall unit that Abloh sought to update, turning it into ‘functional art’ that reflected Braun’s design values along with Abloh’s eclectic cultural and musical references from the past 100 years. In its 2021 edition, the new Wandanlage sports a beautiful chrome design that unites Braun’s love of the material (as seen in its 1960 SM3 shaver and 1961 T1 toaster) with Abloh’s hat tip to the glitz and the shimmer of chrome accents often associated with hip-hop culture through the later years.

About the collaboration, Virgil Abloh said, “I have always had a deep appreciation for Braun design. For the brand’s 100 years, I jumped at the opportunity to reimagine this iconic Braun product and challenge what we have come to expect from design. The “functional art” piece co-curated with Braun Design not only highlights the original function of the hi-fi wall unit that was the best audio of its time, but also the quality and durable materials that are built to last. As a creator, I continue to question how art is perceived in today’s culture. “Functional art” is a lasting legacy of the enduring power of good design that is simple, useful and built to last. In so doing, it advances the frames of design references beyond design ‘purists’ to broader audiences.” Abloh further described his inspiration and this collaborative journey in the video above, shot at Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s iconic Farnsworth house.

This origami engineered chess board unfolds in the most oddly-satisfying way. Watch the video!

We can’t stop watching the magnetic and compact chess board’s video. It has self-centering and stores all the pieces securely. The chess pieces are as custom as well functionally tactile just like the board’s clever underlying mechanism. You can “feel” the center of each square on the solid walnut playing surface. Most importantly, the pieces remain arranged while the set pivots into its playing configuration.

The designers explain, “Weighing in at almost eight pounds, the LE1 set carries a solid walnut playing surface in a precision-machined, black-anodized aluminum chassis. Four integrated panels are joined using brushed stainless steel hardware in an origami-inspired mechanism that can dynamically transition between storage, setup, and playing states. Self-centering on the playing surface and securely stored piece trays, our custom magnetic chess pieces are CNC machined from solid blocks of Dymalux, a resin-infused birch laminate normally reserved for high-touch objects like knife handles, jewelry, and pistol grips. The force of their magnetic base is subtle, leaving play uninterrupted and feeling more like additional piece weighting. Thanks to the set’s single degree of freedom playing configuration which is constrained by its planar resting surface, even with its cantilevered corners, it feels as solid and square as the surface below it.”

“I’ve heard that the Knight is a good measure of the quality of a chess set. Having acquired an impractical number of wooden chess pieces over the last two years, I can confidently say that the level of detail we’ve managed to achieve with our CNC-machined Dymalux Knights is unparalleled amongst other wood pieces. Muscle tone, eyebrows, nostrils, a flowing mane, you can even look this gift horse in its tiny little mouth. Not to be outdone, the Kings are topped off with polished stainless steel crosses. All of these features withstand handling thanks to the impressive durability of Dymalux’s resin-infused birch laminate. No wonder it’s normally used for knife handles, pistol grips, and wood jewelry.”

Each piece is CNC machined from a solid block of Dymalux, a resin-infused birch laminate normally reserved for high-touch objects like knife handles, jewelry, and pistol grips for maximum shelf life and durability. The force of the magnetic base is subtle, leaving play uninterrupted and feeling more like additional piece weighting. It must literally be therapeutic for Monica Geller, a Virgo, or someone who loves staying organized to pack this set up after a match!

Razer’s Zephyr face mask aka Project Hazel with RGB lighting is finally available for sale at $100!

While the company has dropped some high-end features, the RGB lit filters remain.

In CES 2021 – the first-ever virtual avatar of the biggest tech event to kickstart 2021 and Razer has come up with an answer to a question on everyone’s mind – how will tech handle our covid infested world? 2021 promises to be the year of solutions, with vaccines rolling out with speed, while realistically, we know that face masks aren’t going anywhere. Razer, the world’s leading lifestyle accessories brand for gamers takes a dip in the face mask world with the Project Hazel, now released as Zephyr.

The face mask concept showcased a glossy, waterproof, and scratch-resistant shell, transparent by design to allow for lip-reading, and made from recycled plastic. The main attraction is the two circular ‘Active Ventilation’ discs that sit on the sides of your mouth and hold the reusable N95 filters that give a 95% filtration efficiency.

Every Instagram-worthy gaming setup is in visual sync with each other, why should your mask not be a part of the new normal? Jokes aside, if this is a feature that helps people keep their masks ‘on’ wherever they are, I am all for it. The rings can glow with the color of your choice and the LEDs automatically detect and light up in a low light setting to illuminate your face so you can always be seen talking. How helpful is this feature, that is something we will know only once we actually try it but it does sound good in theory!

As Razer says, “The Razer Zephyr is not a medical device, respirator, surgical mask, or personal protective equipment (PPE) and is not meant to be used in medical or clinical settings. It is not tested specifically against the COVID-19 virus but offers the same functionality and adequate protection due to its 99% BFE rating.” Razer has dropped the before-promised UV charging case and voice amplification module to save costs.

Speaking of specs, the mask is now available on Razer’s site with three pairs of filters tested to last about three days each for a full day’s use. As an add-on, a pack with 10 sets of replacement filters will run $30. You can also buy it in a starter pack with the mask and 33 sets of filters — roughly 3 months’ worth — for $150! The mask weighs 209 grams (7 ounces) and it runs for about 8 hours with dual-speed fans set to low.

The mask is currently made for the masses, with no size variations or even allowances for a beard. Razer was one of the few companies worldwide that converted their manufacturing plants for the creation of surgical masks and wanted to pledge and donate up to a million surgical masks. The mask currently ships with an antifog spray, with Razer recommending that you don’t wipe your mask surface. Given all this, the mask seems more aesthetic rather than a medical wearable, but we’ll wait for further reviews to make a final call!

Agile Travel Adapter provides a safe interface to plug all your gadgets into a power socket, no matter where on the face of the planet you are. International travelers who’ve gone through the frustration of figuring out which plug type fits where will appreciate the user-friendliness of this world’s first 2 AC Outlet 45W travel adapter. The freedom of fast charging electronics is a considerable time-saver. For example, Agile can charge your Macbook entirely in just an hour! That functionality is a lifesaver when you need to charge up your phone, tablet, or laptop with a flight to catch.

Designed by the pro travel adapter makers iBlockCube, the Agile international travel adapter raises the bar amongst the competition with its powerful charging capability and plenty of charging ports that’ll never leave you stranded. iBlockCube actually has a proven history with charging solutions, in 2019 they designed the Nimble: The world’s first 35W Dual Type C travel adapter. The Nimble’s success pushed them to create and give the audience a much better travel adapter that you can bring anywhere in the world.

Agile’s compact and durable form factor houses two AC ports – one for the US regions and a Universal one for use with any plug type in the world. So, basically, you’ll be able to power appliances that have US plugs such as hair dryers, iron, or MacBook. On top of that, the travel adapter has 6 ports in total with the above-mentioned dual AC ports, 1 USB Type-C port, and 3 Type-A USB ports. That means you can juice up your essential gadgets, including the ones that support power delivery (PD).

The high-power 45W port of the adapter covers all your appliances that require 30 Watts power for efficient usage, and, of course, modern mobile devices like Nintendo Switch or gaming smartphones that come with high power requirements and fast charging capabilities. To put things in perspective, this high-power port can charge 2.5x faster than the usual stock charger you find at home.

Safety is another concern that most international travelers worry about. Plugging in adapters to unsafe outlets in hotels is not something one can predict, putting the gadgets at risk of damage. Agile has got that covered with the 10A fuse system for protection against short circuits, overcharging, overheating, or supply overcurrent. The travel adapter is compliant with the highest safety standards since it comes with CE & FCC certifications. In addition, the auto-reset feature means there is no need to change the fuse in an event when you draw too much power. The adapter is made out of a fire-resistant PC and has a sliding safety cover to protect children and pets from accidental electric shocks.

Agile’s lightweight, compact and power-packed design means you can carry it in your go-to bag. To put it into perspective, it merges 3 different products – a USB charger, a travel adapter, and a power adapter (for your laptop) in a neat little cube. So, why deal with the hassle of carrying multiple travel adapters when a compact one can do the job efficiently! Use all the extra space and weight you save in your luggage to bring back home that one extra souvenir you always have to sacrifice. The Agile Travel Adapter has got your back!

Meet the VR Cap, a gadget design that can make bring a radical evolution to the wearable tech world!

The VR Cap fixes one nagging problem with VR headsets today – the head-mount. The solution is so ingenious, it makes you wonder ‘why didn’t anyone think of this earlier?!’

While most VR gear comes with a single strap that goes around the side of your head (or a T-shaped strap that also sits on top), they’re almost always fiddly, uncomfortable, and feel like they’re going to fall off. The VR Cap improves upon that detail by turning the headset into a golf cap-style piece of gear that physically wraps around your head as a cap would.

The level of detail and immersive experience a VR-enabled design brings to the table is unprecedented. Can you imagine, actually being a part of the sci-fi world we admire from afar? Which begs the question, why is VR-enabled content not yet mainstream or popular with the general public. I think a huge part of the problem falls with the excessive nature of the wearable required to immerse yourself in VR. Most designs till now focus on a headgear that covers your eyes, giving you the look of a very googly-eyed creature.

VR Cap solves this by merging the glasses with an existing and comfortable piece of clothing – the humble cap! “VR Cap is the world’s first head-mounted display (HMD) to join a crisp VR display with a detachable, woven head covering”, Compal Electronics mentions. Woven from stretchable fabric, one size fits most heads in comfort, and customizations can be made to accommodate users like ponytails without developing new injection molds.

The detachable fabric cap is machine-washable too, resolving the problem we often face (especially in the COVID-era) with being uncomfortable in the level of sanitization for shared gadgets. The fabric of the cap also unleashes the possibility of a ton of customization, taking this a step closer to mass acceptance.

This tiny little dinosaur hiding in this lamp adds the perfect Halloween-y vibes to your home

Invite this little Brachiosaurus who wants to be left alone into your house with this cute lamp!

We are in the final phase of 2021, difficult as that may be to believe, the good thing is we are officially in the festive season. Autumn is in the air, bringing with it the chill and spook of Halloween to your homes. Meet Brachio, this miniature, cute, dinosaur-inspired character that invokes the feeling of wanting to be alone, while not wanting to be left completely alone.

What starts out as a simple white silhouette, on lighting up, it shows Brachio illuminated underneath the sheet. The form has a removable cylinder underneath that can be easily removed to help you switch the bulb. The attention to detail can be seen in the little tail sticking out from underneath the sheet.

Bringing to mind all the sheet-covered ghosts we are sure to see this Halloween, the Mood Lamp Brachio creates a cozy little corner of your home that is sure to bring a smile to your face.

In East Asia, the cartoon characters are created to match the country’s sentiments – the best example of this is the Japanese giant Sanrio who created Gudetama, a lazy egg yolk with a tiny bum that took the country by craze. Want to meet Brachio and get to know him better? Watch the animated clip that shows the moment Brachio burrows under his sheet!

Bringing this ghostly lamp into your home is sure to alleviate some gloom. If you have ever found yourself alone in a crowd, this mood lamp will surely ‘feel’ you and add some Halloween spirit to your bedside!

Futuristic Consumer Technology designs that we can’t wait to see in real life!

The Consumer Technology sector is one that has impacted our lives in more ways than we can account for! Actually, give it a go and see the number of gadgets that are surrounding you – from a smart doorbell, your laptop, wearables to even our earbuds – technology has entered our lives and changed it for the better. Given the amount of convenience and solutions these gadgets add to our lives, we can’t help wait for more innovative designs like the ones showcased here. Every conceptual design here will change the way we interact with the traditional designs and we can’t wait to get our hands on these!

The Jupiter drone concept by Anton Weaver has a monolithic orb-esque form that defies both gravity as well as the ‘rules’ of drone design. It uses a large single propeller, and what I imagine is an internal gyroscope to move around in the air, stay upright, and even twist and turn while in mid-air. The drone’s unusual design is further characterized by the presence of fisheye lens cameras that allow it to capture everything it sees, sort of like a levitating GoPro!

Resurrecting the iPod Classic, this gadget is a modern design that’ll revive the nostalgic memories of the yesteryears. Designer Andrea Copellino gives us a reason to dream of a future Apple gadget that’ll revive the good old times when listening to favorite songs was such a liberating experience. This he does to celebrate the two decades of the iPod Classic this year. The iPod Classic of 2021 has a much wider proportion as compared to its inspiration which is understandable in current times. The UI has also been revamped for a seamless user experience and they come with no headphone jacks as a surprise. The reason, well, Apple would want you to use the ANC AirPods Pro with the gadget.

Netflix is set to debut early next year and we could expect an announcement by the end of this year. This gives the perfect opportunity to concept designers for coming up with Netflix branded gaming accessories that will ultimately brace the platform just like Google Stadia, Xbox Gaming pass, Nividia GeForce Now, and Amazon Luna. Designers Seong Bin Yoon and Cheolhee Lee have envisioned a design that is good for casual gaming as well as AR and VR-assisted gaming fun. The gaming controller has a very distinct form factor – something akin to the Nintendo Joy-Con controllers with a unique Netflix-logo-inspired gamepad to continue reinforcing the branding experience.

Portable EV chargers have caught pace in the last few years, and the A-monite, a concept for a portable electric vehicle fast charger is one fine example of how the intention is altering and is revolutionizing the way people think of electric vehicle ownership. A portable charger like the A-monite removes the question of where, when, and how out of actually charging the electric vehicle. It taps into the lack of charging infrastructure so that a vehicle does not have to be towed to a charging station – if it’s stranded on the highway. Instead, it can be powered up, right there and then with a portable charger in the boot of the car. It is an interesting alternative to the fixed stands installed in the parking lots, buildings, and in outdoors.

For everyone who thought BlackBerry was done and dusted, 2020’s been a pretty interesting year for the company. Meet the Passport 2, a conceptual Android-running BlackBerry phone with a 4.5-inch touchscreen display, a physical keyboard, and a 5G chip on the inside. I have to admit that seeing a new BlackBerry does give me a bit of nostalgia. I’ve never been a fan of touchscreen keyboards, and that’s a complaint that BlackBerry and I have always had in common; although BlackBerry phones have an archetype, and it’s safe to say that the archetype isn’t really popular anymore!

The SHIFT creates a new sort of format. Instead of disappearing when you don’t need it, the SHIFT’s format explores an A vs B arrangement, where you can alternate between two screen sizes, choosing a smaller one while working at your desk, and a larger one for sitting back and watching a movie. To manage this, the SHIFT uses a display that extends sideways while rotating too (the GIF above should really explain how it works), effectively being able to expand in BOTH directions. The expanded display isn’t just wider, it’s taller too because the entire display rotates 90° while rolling open (so the horizontal width of the smaller screen becomes the vertical height of the larger screen).

The NeckBook, as its name should rather aptly suggest, is a laptop that has a display with a ‘neck’. Unlike conventional laptops that connect their displays directly to the base using a set of hinges, the NeckBook adds a sliding rail (or a neck) between them. Once you flip open your lid, as you would with any conventional laptop, the NeckBook lets you pull the display upwards, adjusting its height. The display slides up and down the neck, and can swivel left and right too, giving you an infinite amount of control over your viewing experience – something a regular laptop can’t.

Hanging a TV set like a picture frame on the wall may seem too risky at the first glance, but on testing, this design opens up the TV for a range of scenarios! If you have used a Samsung Series 4 LED TV, you’d relate to the fact that they came with a metal string like this one predicted for the Pendant TV. The design rests on a pulley-like mount screwed into the wall, making the design way sleeker and held the TV set closer to the wall. The currently used brackets that come with larger display-sized televisions tend to protrude from the wall leaving a sizable gap between the wall and the TV. While the marketed hanging style from Samsung actually ensured the hanging sting hid behind the display; the clean hanging layout makes the fine fabric strap visible with the Pendant TV display.

RA Laser Z3 is a compact and portable laser engraving tool with an open base design so that anyone can laser engrave their products from anywhere for any reason. Before use, the RA Laser Z3 folds down to the height of a closed book. When users unfold the RA Laser Z3 to engrave an item, the bulk of the laser opens up just like a book as the engraving module swings out to form an L-shape. From there, users position the products they’d like to engrave beneath the bottom rectangular frame. Designed with an open base, the RA Laser Z3 is prepared for users to engrave products of any size, from iPhones to dog tags.

To ensure their EVs remain charged when traveling, drivers often have to adjust their routes to incorporate charging stops along the way. Cutting out the extra travel time those routes take up, Nebo users can request charging drones to fly to their EV and power up their vehicles on the road. Then, drivers can plug in their destination from a dashboard display, and Nebo will find the quickest route and create a charging schedule for the trip, ensuring that EVs are fully charged. Each charging drone contains electromagnetic and ultrasonic sensors to locate and latch onto the roofs of electric vehicles. Once securely stationed atop the EV, charging coils transmit power between Nebo and the electric vehicle. The drones would also feature bladeless wings, allowing for a compact build that can slide into itself during use

Meet BMW and BMW Motorrad’s Vision AMBY models and their thoughtful design process

BMW is on a path to redefine our vision of what automotive design looks like with their BMW Group keynote 2021. Focusing on their two-wheeler concepts that blur the boundary between bicycle and motorbike, meet the BMW i Vision AMBY and the BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY.

These are two of five different concept vehicles that the BMW Group will use at the IAA Mobility 2021 in Munich to showcase its vision of individual mobility in and around the urban setting. The theme of the event focuses on electric mobility, digitalization, and sustainability, these concepts provide a diverse range of solutions designed to encourage every type of user.

Sleek, modern, and distinctly edgy (the battery pack seems to take a suspicious inspiration from the angular design trend made popular by Tesla Cybertruck) – the BMW i Vision AMBY takes its role to inspire the design world seriously. The pedelec defies the standard dominant hues of black, blue, and silver for a refreshing metallic gold finish that is sure to turn heads.

AMBY stands for ‘Adaptive Mobility’ and each of these designs has its own interpretation of the adaptive user behavior. Both vehicles are electrically powered with three-speed levels for different types of road. The drive allows up to 25 km/h on cycle paths, up to 45 km/h on inner-city roads, and up to a top speed of 60 km/h on multi-lane roads and out of town. A helmet, insurance license plates, and a relevant driving license are required when you want to travel at higher speeds.

BMW i Vision AMBY

Speaking of the design of the BMW i Vision AMBY, the team explains, “The design of the BMW i Vision AMBY is defined by visual lightness and powerful athleticism. And every detail promises that it is capable of more than a regular e-bike. The frame structure is larger and the impression is one of greater strength and stability in every respect. The modern frame geometry feels like a mixture of a racing bike and a sporty e-bike. The upper frame tube, crafted from four sculptural aluminum profiles, represents an expressive and modern statement of intent – and not only in visual terms. A slightly rising sweep to its design underscores the dynamic intent. The space between the profiles also offers a storage room for a backpack or laptop bag. Located just before the handlebars is the smartphone integration pad, which holds the device safely in place using magnets and ensures it is highly visible.”

The battery is positioned in the center of the bike frame with its 2,000 Wh capacity enabling a range of up to 300 km (186 miles). The design of the handlebar stem includes a slim, horizontal LED light strip that is integrated into the wide handlebars and underscores the cutting-edge, technical look of this frame section. Being a pedal-driven device, the design automatically becomes a zero-emissions design, keeping in tune with the circular economy messaging for the BMW i Vision Circular.

“The frame can be clearly recognized as being made from the same anodized secondary aluminum as the main body of the BMW i Vision Circular. Added to which, parts of the handlebars and battery cover are manufactured from “floating grey polymers”, a recycled plastic also employed in the bumpers of the Vision Vehicle. These materials can be fed back into the BMW Group materials cycle more easily once the product has reached the end of its life. An oil derived from rapeseed is used as brake fluid. And the BMW Group was also careful to ensure the components of the BMW i Vision AMBY were produced locally in Germany and – with the supply chain in mind – transportation distances for them were kept to a minimum.”

BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY

A completely new concept between bicycle and motorbike, the concept focuses on the emotional connection between the user and the vehicle, taking it beyond a simple machine to a ‘partner in crime’. With its graphic yet dirtbike-like design, the sleekness of the concept focuses on the bicycle-like aesthetics with the functionality and soul of a BMW Enduro motorbike. It is this balancing act that makes it the perfect urban bike as well as a design that can go farther/longer ahead with you when you need it to.

“The BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY takes us into new territory. For us, the focus is on user behavior – the question is: how will customers want to get around in the future? What will they expect their vehicle to be capable of? This was precisely the starting point of our deliberations. Our aim was to develop an extremely emotional vehicle for smart mobility in and around the city that offered maximum freedom. The BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY really does enable our customers to experience urban life in a whole new way, cover distances more flexibly and “break free” of the city from time to time, too. At the same time, BMW Motorrad is consistently pursuing its electromobility strategy for urban conurbations. It’s a fascinating introduction to the world of BMW Motorrad that also promises maximum riding pleasure,” explains Edgar Heinrich, Head of Design BMW Motorrad.

“In keeping with the unexpected, self-assured character of the BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY, its two sides have deliberately been designed distinctively. On both sides, the white “AMBY” lettering catches the eye above the light-colored drive unit, making a striking statement as a stylized graphic on the trim of the energy storage unit. While the lettering on the left gains additional visual depth from a colorfully shimmering, iridescent drop shadow, the inscription on the right appears deliberately without a drop shadow. Below the energy storage unit, there are two iridescent elements that add a further accentuation. On the right-hand side of the vehicle, three small turquoise blue tubes visibly emerge from the silhouette, clearly alluding to the electric heart of the BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY. Next to this is a quote by Markus Schramm, Head of BMW Motorrad: „Electro-mobility will be very significant for the future of motorcycling.

Both the designs focus on using your smartphone as a Digital Key and geofencing to keep your rides safe. The focus on this entire experience is to cement BMW’s position as a game-changer, as a design brand that is staying true to its promise to sustainability and also shows that being sustainable is not a compromise. We are eagerly awaiting to experience these designs!

This minimal desk organizer comes with a unique switch-free mechanism to turn the light on and off!

Award-winning industrial designer, Yohan Lansard, has once again given us a design that we are adding to our “major need!” list. Desk Tidy is both a lamp and a sleek desk organizer (also called desk tidy) for the miscellaneous items that usually cause clutter. The lighting concept is made with machined wood, anodized aluminum, and a diffusing tube.

Both a lamp and a desk tidy, the light turns on when the lightbox is positioned vertically and turns off horizontally – simple, neat, and effective. How the lamp turns on and off is very intuitive as well as the paper-clip-inspired shape makes it even more perfect for your desk. The CMF is minimal and durable, the style would work in any desk or office setup without being distracting.

“Both a lamp and a desk tidy, the light turns on when the lightbox is positioned vertically and turns off horizontally. Available in several forms, this concept makes it possible to respond to different types of objects.” Would be even cooler if the designer could integrate a wireless charging mechanism to provide a distinct differentiation from the metallic charges we see in the market.

The French designer continues to explore this concept which was created for Artemide, an Italian design studio known for its innovative lighting.

Keeping up with its mission to connect designers across disciplines, the International Design Conference (IDC) is returning virtually in 2021. The objective of the event ties in with the demand of the hour. This 24-hour non-stop event starts on Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 12pm EDT and ends Thursday, Sept. 23 at 12pm EDT. You can expect to engage with global design leaders at Amazon, Samsung, IDEO, and more. However, I have another reason why you should attend the conference – Yanko Design.

Included in the 60+ sessions across 24 hours will be a session hosted by Yanko Design on Design Journalism. At the end of this session, you will know more about how to effectively communicate your design in a voice that will resonate with your audience – be it an Instagram post, a Facebook update, or an article on your page.

Produced each year by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), IDC is an international platform for amplifying the unique and bold voice of industrial design while celebrating the deep interconnection with other disciplines. One of the perks of the conference is networking. And to give you a great example is the fact that Airbnb was born during the 2007 IDC! Will your million-dollar idea be the next?

You can expect networking, keynotes, main stage presentations, workshops, panel discussions, breakout sessions, and more. With limited resources at our disposal, IDC is a good way to capitalize on the future of design and design work. Learn how to leverage AI and super AI, DesignOps, biometrics, 3D printing, NFTs, and blockchain technology.

Amongst other things, like how to integrate DEI into emerging tech, hiring practices, and your own design work on multiple levels, I will be talking about how to market yourself and your work through design journalism.

In IDSA’s Education Symposium, under the 2021 theme “Breaking Down Barriers: Fostering collaborations for systemic change,” design educators from across the globe will discuss topics like increasing diversity in design education, enhancing ID education with user experience design, leveraging designers for patent content, and achieving carbon neutrality in makerspaces. IDSA’s annual Student Merit Award winners will also be present during the event.

Today we designers and design enthusiasts must learn to design for the post-pandemic era. We have to reinvent the wheel in some situations, and personally, I think IDC offers the perfect platform that can help us with the tools required to be agile, adaptive, and inspiring.
