Back to the Future II DeLorean Hovercraft for Sale: Great Scott!

I am so glad that no one has remade, rebooted, or changed the gender in Back to the Future. These movies should be left alone. If they did reboot it they would likely feel the need to give us some new versions of the time-traveling DeLorean. Like this hovercraft version for example.

It’s not really a DeLorean though. It just looks like one. What you’re looking at is a custom-built hovercraft that looks like the time-traveling DeLorean from Back to the Future II. It will cost you $45,000 or best offer, and you can buy it on eBay.

Here are some of the details:

“This is a hand-made hovercraft that was built between 2008 and 2012 and continuously improved upon since then. I have recently remodeled and upgraded much of it and it is now in the best shape of its life. The thrust engine is about 5 years old and has about 40 hours on it. The lift engine is new and has about 10 hours on it. I spent the last 4 months working full-time to get it in great condition for you! New paint job, new rudders, new wiring, new switches, new led lights, etc.”

What you get:

  • Hand-built hovercraft sculpted to look exactly like a DeLorean. This is a functional work of art, it is not an actual DeLorean bolted onto a hovercraft.
  • Custom flatbed tilting trailer built specifically for this hovercraft
  • Miscellaneous spare parts and supplies including spare engine parts, fans and propellers, nuts and bolts.
  • The hovercraft is based on the blueprints for the Universal Hovercraft UH-13PT
  • Free phone consultations for any technical questions you might have

Sadly, I don’t think it will ever hit 88 mph. Any takers?

This 3D-Printed Ghost Rider Costume Is Smokin’

Mike Warren wanted to dress up as Ghost Rider for Halloween this year. Now, he could have just worn a cheap mask and leather jacket, but he wanted to go the extra mile with a wearable glowing skull helmet surrounded in a cloud of smoke. When you are Ghost Rider, that’s just how it has to be. You can’t cheap out.

Mike used a very modern tool for generating the smoke: a simple vape.  Plus, the glowing LEDs inside the skull do a really great job of creating the look of fire, without the risk of burning yourself himself beyond all recognition.

Combined with the smoke really creates the illusion that this is the real Ghost Rider. The smoke comes from a store-bought electronic cigarette. Warren modded it with custom controls, a fan unit, and some flexible tubes to redirect the vapor flow.

Warren documented the entire build on Instructables if you want to try making one yourself. That link has links to all of the parts and components he used, and the 3D skull model he modified and 3D printed.

This is one awesome Ghost Rider costume. Now all he needs is a flaming motorcycle to ride. Maybe he’ll make that next year.

Crocheted Predator Halloween Costume Is Cute and Creepy

Let me introduce you to the world’s cutest Predator costume; an all-crocheted kid’s Predator costume to be precise. Thankfully instead of trophies like spines, armor and other bones, this predator is happy to walk away with a bag of Halloween candy and call it a night.

This awesome costume was made by Crochetverse for her six-year-old son. Forget wearing one of those cheap plastic Ninja Turtle masks or Optimus Prime, this costume wins Halloween. In a sea of Black Panthers and Wonder Women, this bad boy stands out. As a bonus, this will be the warmest costume out there on Halloween night.

Crochetverse only recently allowed her son to see the movie and apparently, he loved it. So she crocheted this. Now that’s a good mom. She could have just put some aluminum foil over a cardboard box and told him to be a robot. She actually has a history of making her son cool costumes. In the past she has made E.T., Pennywise the clown, and more. I hope that my mom is paying attention to this.

Will you look this awesome on Halloween night? No, you will not.

This Life-size LEGO Bugatti Chiron Looks Incredible, and Really Can Drive

Recently LEGO Technic released a scale model of the Bugatti Chiron, and I thought that was pretty darned impressive in its own right. But now, a team of ingenious and talented designers and engineers have gone above the call of duty, creating a full-size replica of the Chiron, made almost entirely from LEGO Technic parts. Oh, and it actually holds a full-size human and can be driven.

It took the team at LEGO Technic’s Kladno factory in the Czech Republic over 13,000 hours to design and build this incredible vehicle. Over 1 million individual LEGO components went into the build, including over 2,300 individual LEGO Power Functions motors, ganged together to produce enough power to move this 3,300 pound replica. Incredibly, no glue was used to hold the parts together either, a rarity even for large-scale static LEGO models, let alone one that can be driven.

It tops out at just 12 mph, and its motors generate a total of 5.3 horsepower, a far cry from the 1,479 horses that an actual Chiron makes, but I don’t care. This thing is simply amazing on every level. Just look at this thing. It lives at the perfect intersection of three of my favorite things – cars, technology, and toys.

Every detail is impeccable, from the clusters of LED headlamps, wrapped in new transparent Technic bricks, to the retractable rear spoiler out back. LEGO, you have truly outdone yourselves with this build.

Now check out the LEGO Chiron in action in the video below, as it takes its inaugural ride with championship race driver Andy Wallace behind the wheel. Then take a gander at the gallery below for some behind-the-scenes photos of the car’s construction.

This Hammer Dispenses Nails: Nailed It!

I love any tool that makes projects around the house easier. I mean, having a robot to do all of my projects would be best, but that isn’t happening anytime soon. Besides, you can’t trust a robot with a hammer. But things like this innovative hammer will make life easier.

Designer Michael Young developed this hammer that’s capable of dispensing its own nails – probably because he also has no hammer robot. It dispenses collated framing nails as you need them. This tool should save you a lot of time and energy while doing your work. You just load the nail cartridge in and start hammering. When you need it to dispense a nail, just tap the side of the hammer against a hard surface to set the mechanism, then tap the hammerhead where you want the nail, then drive it in.

It’s a pretty brilliant design, and I can’t wait to buy this one when it hits the market. It might help people to not whack their thumbs when they set nails as well. That happens to me all of the time. Of course, I like to get hammered when hammering, which probably doesn’t help. I guess I thought that was what MC Hammer meant when he said “hammer time.”

These Instant Noodle Warriors Are Anything But Soft and Chewy

Some people really love Japanese instant ramen noodles, but these people have been missing out by just eating them. Did you know that you can sculpt with them? Taishi Arimura does just that, making instant noodle warrior sculptures. Yes, this guy creates humanoid sculptures from the noodles and then outfits each figure with armor made from instant noodle Styrofoam packaging. The finished figures look awesome.

Naturally, these noodle warriors have weapons too, like forks or chopsticks. One even has some kind of egg-based shield. It looks to me like these noodle warriors were tired of the constant threat of being eaten, and now it is time for some payback.

They look pretty badass and tough, although I’m not sure how well they would stand up in battle. Hopefully, they wouldn’t just unravel and fall apart as they charged onto the battlefield. If their enemies are smart, they would just pour hot water on them to make sure that happened. That’s pretty much their kryptonite. Hot water equals death to a noodle man, no matter how cool you look.

They remind me of the Michelin Man, but more fit. I’m not sure if the artist is selling them, but people would buy these for sure if he did. I would definitely display these on my shelf.

Guy Flies Jet-powered Hoverboard at More than 100 mph

Somebody call Spider-Man, because I think we just spotted the Green Goblin! What you’re about to see is a jet-powered Flyboard Air being piloted at speeds up to 103.4 mph. This thing looks like a lot of fun. At least until something goes wrong and you nosedive toward the ground. I mean, there’s a reason this guy is wearing a parachute on his back. Luckily, he didn’t have to use it.

Imagine going this fast in a standing position, while in the air. It would be a scary ride, but super fun. You would feel like a God. You almost have to become the Green Goblin and start throwing pumpkins at Spider-Man and causing mayhem.

Seriously though, I would love to take a ride on this thing even if I would likely die upon landing. It would be quite an adrenaline rush on the way out, with jet engines strapped to your feet! Just the idea is nuts. We live in amazing times with some amazing gear, folks.

Shut up and Take My Money for this Planet Express Master Series Ship Replica!

I loved every single episode of Futurama when it was on the air, and have watched most of the episodes at least twice since they first ran. Matt Groening’s animated sci-fi comedy may not be making new episodes anymore, but that doesn’t mean you can’t show your love for the series every day. This replica of the Planet Express ship should serve as a great reminder.

I can imagine tiny versions of Fry, Leela, Bender, Professor Farnsworth, Hermes, Zoidberg, and Amy flying around the universe making same day deliveries in this miniature Master Series Planet Express ship. The ship is a perfect replica of the one on the show, and features lots of neat details.

The 12″ long model even lights up at the push of a button, with LED illumination of the cockpit, portholes, and rocket exhaust pipes. Quantum Mechanix are the guys behind this awesome collectible, and they know a thing or two about making great toys and replicas.

And here’s the good news, everyone! You can buy one today over at ThinkGeek, and it won’t break the bank either, since it’s priced at just $59.99. How could you NOT afford to buy one?
