And by accessories, we don’t simply mean the same old covers and cases that we’ve all gotten pretty much accustomed to. Designers have been leveling up their accessories game, creating unique and handy products that will totally elevate your iPhone 13! From a MagSafe iStorage that adds a snap-on physical drive to your smartphone to a tiny 20W power bank that can charge multiple Apple devices – these innovative accessories are what your iPhone 13 truly needs!

1. The Pixy Mini

2. The NAKEY

Perhaps the easiest way to compare the NAKEY to most traditional cases is by comparing contact lenses to traditional spectacles. Much like how regular spectacles sit on your nose, hooking onto your ears for support, regular cases fit onto your phone from the back, hooking onto their front edge with a TPU lip or plastic grippers. The NAKEY, however, envelops your phone in a thin, protective film, like contact lenses attaching to the front and back of your phone. Formed through a process known as thermo-layering, the case is designed with incredibly tight tolerances, and basically sticks to your phone on the front and the back using the same sort of glue used on tempered glass screen protectors. A slim bumper on the side protects the edge of your phone too, creating a case that’s about as thin as a screen protector, and about as invisible as one too.

The Chargepuck acts as a replacement for the wireless charging dock or mat you’ve probably got lying on your desk or somewhere at your bedside. Instead of being a static device that sits plugged into an outlet forever, the little puck sits attached to your iPhone and comes with its own retractable cable that lets you plug it in anywhere. The Chargepuck isn’t a battery pack (it doesn’t have its own battery inside it), but rather, it’s a charging apparatus that sits attached to your phone and lets you charge three devices at the same time.

Taiseer’s mini AirPods Pro concept slims down the charging case to match the side of a half-finished stack of mini Post-Its.

7. The Nimble Wireless Convertible Stand

The Nimble Wireless Convertible Stand makes wireless charging more flexible than ever! It charges your smartphone on contact and the built-in stand lets you place your iPhone in either a flat or propped-up position. This allows you to use your phone, and continue binging on your favorite Netflix show, while your phone is charging. The stand also features an additional port, so you can charge a second device as well. The built-in thermal management ensures a safe and hazard-free charging experience.

8. The iStorage

Designer Abdelrahman Shaapan has an idea – Magsafe Storage. Designed to resemble Apple’s newly launched MagSafe Battery Pack (although Abdel came up with this design all the way back in May), the iStorage is a nifty wireless drive that lets you add extra storage to your phone in literally a snap. How would the iStorage even work in theory? Clearly, the MagSafe is built just for hooking accessories to the iPhone and chargers to the wireless charging coil. How would the iStorage even transfer data? Well, even though Abdelrahman’s iStorage is just a fan-made concept, the real device could easily communicate with the iPhone or any other Apple device using AirDrop protocols. The snap-on feature would probably be just something of a convenience, but I could easily imagine the iStorage as being Apple’s own hard drive… something that the company hasn’t really ever worked on.

9. The OMNIA Q5

The OMNIA Q5 is a nifty docking and charging station that replaces your drawer of cables. Designed as a slick, compact dock that can fit on even the smallest night-stand, or the corner of your work-desk, the OMNIA Q5 lets you organize and charge all your Apple gadgets at once, supplying the right amount of power to each one of them to charge them rapidly and simultaneously. Designed to be an integral part of your ecosystem of Apple products, the OMNIA Q5 acts as an organizer for your gadgets. It docks them in individually assigned areas (so they’re always neatly arranged) and charges them too – wirelessly for the most part, except the iPad which needs a cable with USB-C input.

To ensure that the rider avoids accidents in the first place, the helmet comes with a fold-out rear-view heads-up mirror that lets them see potential vehicles approaching from the rear, while in the unfortunate event of an accident, the helmet has its own auto-deploying airbag that protects the neck and upper spine when the rider falls.

The Berlin Bicycle Rack is not only is a stunning, Nordic-inspired bicycle rack, but also a storage system for other household possessions; the Birchwood assembly lends itself to the storage of magazines, bicycle accessories, books, and office items. The hand-finished, contemporary design allows for the Berlin Bicycle Rack to be introduced into a wide variety of interior décors and to be seamlessly integrated into space. And, if you’re a bike lover like me, it’s also a great reason to keep your bike in the house!

4. Omnilock

Omnilock multifunctional Bike Lock is a unique bicycle accessory that performs double duty as a bright taillight and tire inflator as well. This multiple utility of the accessory means – the rider has less to worry about – if he/she is an avid bicycle user. Someone who likes to pedal to the mountains or spend a whole lot of time going for extended bike runs in the morning for fitness. Safety is another important thing that the bike lock addresses as the taillight adds another layer of visibility for motorists to take note of when on the go. That means the bike lock sits right under the saddle when in commute, and when you need to park it, simply take out Omnilock and lock the rear wheel.

5. Garmin Bicycle Computer

This Garmin bicycle computer takes a detour from the design language for the brand’s current line-up of Edge GPS bike computers for bicycle riders. Industrial designer WuShuai has thought of a refreshing design for the next Garmin computer for your ride to next get stranded on any hiking trail. His design has a more contoured aspect to it, the convex display is a telltale indicator of the fact. Being a bike enthusiast himself, Wu wanted to create a softer design language for a future Garmin Edge product. However he himself admits that the screen is more susceptible to breakage in this new form if there is an accidental fall. That’s a story for another day if this design is referenced by Garmin for consideration.

6. The Lingmou

Meet the Lingmou intelligent portable air pump designed by Yifanzi J for awkward situations on unknown roads. Keeping in mind that motorists need to keep a check on their vehicle’s air pressure levels in all the tires, the portable air pump is a must-have without any questions. Tire bursts on freeways account for accidents, and no one wants to jeopardize their, as well as other motorist’s lives, do they? This proposed concept design is meant for Generation Z who like things as simple and time-saving as possible – not to forget the styling quotient.

7. NASA-inspired Airless Bike Tires

No one wants a flat tire while mowing the lawn or playing golf and the chance for a flat tire is far higher in places like construction zones and building demolition sites. It makes sense that some vehicles prioritize airless tires and some don’t, but what about bicycles? The Q, popular science and DIY YouTube channel, asked the same question and looked no further than an old PVC pipe and some nuts and bolts to answer it. Before constructing his airless tires, The Q was sure to pick a PVC pipe that had enough density to support a rider and ride well on different terrain. Settling on a ½” thick PVC pipe, The Q then sliced the PVC pipe into two-inch wide rings. From there, the DIY YouTuber connected all of the rings into a single link after drilling three holes into each and joining them together with nuts and bolts

8. RainRider’s Cover

RainRider’s soft-top cover was designed to attach to e-bike and road bike handlebars to protect cyclists and their bikes from rainy weather conditions and reduce CO2 gas emissions by keeping cyclists on the road even in the rain. Whenever the rain comes, cyclists can simply strap the soft-top cover onto their handlebars and fork tubes and ride as usual. RainRider’s cover follows the steering of the bike and its streamlined design makes it less sensitive to crosswinds that might blow through rainstorms. Like an umbrella for your bike, the RainRider’s soft-top cover is designed with an aerodynamic shape to keep rides speedy and safe even on rainy days. Lightweight by design, the soft-top cover from RainRider only weighs 1.5kg and can fold down into a backpack when not in use for easy storage and portability.

9. Tree Trailer

Talk about a treehouse and the first thing that comes to mind is a wooden structure erected around a solid tree. Then shift your thought towards a camper that is towed behind a vehicle. Combine these both in their smallest form possible and you get this portable treehouse. The unique creation christened Tree Trailer by Henry K. Wein, a design student at the Design Academy Eindhoven, is a house on wheels like none other. The one-man treehouse can be towed behind a bicycle or a motorcycle, and when the time comes to set camp, simply mount it on a solid tree branch with the trunk acting as the other support. When mounted to a tree, it makes me think about the idea of vertical camping – wherein tents are pitched hanging from vertical cliffs!

10. The savAR Helmet

More than 700 cyclists are killed every year by other motorists in the U.S. alone, and the graph hasn’t seen any significant drop in the last few years. Thinkable Studio wants to curb this with an innovative helmet design that equips cyclists with their own set of spatial awareness tech to avoid accidents. Called the savAR helmet, this piece of bicycle accessory is loaded with augmented reality and artificial intelligence components to naïve the traditional helmet protection methods. The ever-evolving smart software of the helmet and the AR waveguide technology enhances the rider’s awareness of the crowded streets and other motorists nearby by quite a few notches.

Robots + Perfumes: How this tiny little contraption is disrupting the massive luxury fragrance industry

Like a bartender for fragrances, NINU is a portable little gadget that “designs” the perfume you want by combining fragrances that you can then spray directly from its bottle-shaped form.

Call me old-fashioned, but I honestly didn’t think I’d stick around on this planet long enough to hear the phrase “smart-perfume” being casually thrown around… yet here we are. Meet NINU, a little handheld device that overhauls the centuries-old fragrance industry with technology. Perfumes, just like practically any other oronasal experience from food to drinks, is made by combining ‘ingredients’. The choice and intensity of these ingredients end up creating a perfume, so here’s a thought… why not mechanize it? Just like your fairly advanced coffee-maker can create cappuccinos, espressos, americanos, lattes, mochas, etc simply by playing around with ingredients and their measurements, NINU can design and ‘manufacture’ perfumes for men and women simply by combining multiple fragrance bases together in precisely calculated quantities. Think of it like a printer, that uses different ink cartridges to print out beautiful pictures.

Sure, it’s no Chanel or Burberry or Davidoff, but the way NINU disrupts the centuries-old fragrance industry is by simply offering versatility – 100 different scents inside 1 bottle. The NINU ditches the notion that you need to commit to a single 2-3 ounce bottle for a decade. Just like your outfits and personas change with each passing day, NINU allows you to change your fragrance too. The portable little device houses three vials of fluid inside that act as the base ingredients for the fragrance. A touch-sensitive panel lets you easily deploy the spray and voila! You’ve got an entire collection of perfumes all within one portable little gadget.

While the idea sounds simple on paper, what’s remarkable about the NINU is that it isn’t a massive tabletop device like your coffee maker. It’s a handheld, coffee-cup-sized contraption that you can carry with you and formulate perfumes literally on the go. That’s where the NINU’s complex engineering shines through. The device is about the size of a regular 100ml perfume bottle, which means it can still be held and used like one. On the appearance front, it looks like an opaque little cylinder with a sleek design, textured finish, and in black, white, or rose gold colors, fitting the part of a beautiful premium bottle. To use the NINU, all you do is fire the app and select a fragrance from the vast library the app offers. Once you do, the NINU mixes together the fragrances in precise quantities for a single ‘session’, and a touch button on the side of the bottle deploys the finely atomized spray of the fragrance of your choice. It’s worth noting that the fragrances are vegan, and they’re also formulated with a higher concentration than colognes and traditional Eau de parfums, allowing each spray of the NINU’s perfumes to last for over 12 hours.

The app comes with its own secret sauce too, as it learns from your preferences and analyzes the season, weather, and humidity in your city/region to recommend newer, better fragrances for you. It’s far more than what the current perfume industry offers, as fragrances are often designed in controlled environments, and they aren’t really made FOR you, your preferences, or your region. The process of finding the right perfume is basically one of trial and error. The NINU hopes to make it easy by giving you 100 different choices right in your hand, and also adding a layer of AI that recommends fragrances based on your preferences.

At €177 or $199, NINU makes for a pretty compelling purchase. It’s about as much as a high-end perfume from Gucci, Chanel, or Davidoff (I’m more of a Paco Rabanne guy myself), although NINU replaces that massive luxury brand markup with actual innovation, and the ability to have your entire perfume cabinet in a tiny handheld device that you can carry with you even while traveling. It charges via USB-C too, which means your power bank should suffice; and the NINU isn’t energy-intensive, so a single charge goes a long way. The device is up for pre-order and ships in May 2022. We can’t stop watching the magnetic and compact chess board’s video. It has self-centering and stores all the pieces securely. The chess pieces are as custom as well functionally tactile just like the board’s clever underlying mechanism. You can “feel” the center of each square on the solid walnut playing surface. Most importantly, the pieces remain arranged while the set pivots into its playing configuration.

The designers explain, “Weighing in at almost eight pounds, the LE1 set carries a solid walnut playing surface in a precision-machined, black-anodized aluminum chassis. Four integrated panels are joined using brushed stainless steel hardware in an origami-inspired mechanism that can dynamically transition between storage, setup, and playing states. Self-centering on the playing surface and securely stored piece trays, our custom magnetic chess pieces are CNC machined from solid blocks of Dymalux, a resin-infused birch laminate normally reserved for high-touch objects like knife handles, jewelry, and pistol grips. The force of their magnetic base is subtle, leaving play uninterrupted and feeling more like additional piece weighting. There are few clothing brands that really match the design and innovation in fashion that Vollebak has managed in the last six odd years. The British clothing brand has previously left us in awe with a jacket fashioned to improve the sleep cycle of astronauts, and it is now tapping into the extraterrestrial void with the all-new Mars gear.

Combining the aspects it loves: Vollebak has designed Mars Jacket and Pants for the voyage to the red planet. It is fashioned with the unrelenting adoration for space exploration and crazy material science to solve a problem that is coming in the next few years. So, as the human race prepares itself to colonize Mars, Vollebak has clothing ready for engineers, architects, scientists and explorers who will be heading into space when the time is right. Until then, the jacket and pants are just apt for your next clubbing night back on Earth.

Vollebak, co-founded by twins Nick and Steve Tidball, has been creating clothes for the future and this intergalactic set of jackets and pants is only an extension of that intent. The gear is made from a tear-resistant, ballistic nylon outer shell but it’s absolutely soft and snug and is provided in two: gray and cream colors. Since the clothing is designed to venture to the next planet, it includes anti-gravity pockets to counter the shifting gravitational fields. Realizing that earthlings may experience nausea in their interplanetary voyage, the Mars gear is equipped with a 3D-printed vomit pocket on the chest, which features a removable and cleanable orange PVC vomit bag, should you need it.

Yanko Design has imagined what these new nibs could look like, with explorations for more niche 2D uses. The interchangeable nibs include a fine-tip nib, a chisel nib, and a flexible brush-pen nib. Other nib styles could unlock 3D modeling features like being able to sculpt on the iPad. “The filing suggests the nib could contain several different sensors for varying purposes. The component list includes tactile sensors, contact sensors, capacitive and touch sensors, a camera, a piezoelectric sensor, a pressure sensor, or a photodiode”, reports Apple Insider.

The ActionBand is a new sweatband with a frame for your Apple Watch so you can work out and track your activities while keeping the sweat from loosening your grip!

These days, we’re not chasing rings, we’re closing them. Chances are, even if you don’t have an Apple Watch, you’ve seen your neighborhood’s finest power walkers going that extra mile to close out their Apple Watch’s activity rings. Everybody’s doing it.

While we use our Apple Watches outside of the gym, keeping an eye on our workout’s progress with activity tracking always helps to push our limits. Designing a new wristband made specifically for working out with your Apple Watch, Apple-inspired design group Twelve South created the ActionBand, a sweatband that can hold your Apple Watch.

When working out, our grips make all the difference. So when sweat comes into play, a tight grip around dumbbells, barbells, and kettlebells becomes harder to maintain. No one wants to lose out on activities that might close our rings though, so Twelve South developed a solution.

The ActionBand is essentially a sweatband with a carved-out frame to hold your Apple Watch, allowing you to sweat all day without loosening your grip. The X-15 Automatic Watch was co-designed by the last-living test-pilot to ever fly the rocket-powered jet

Inspired by a true icon of American aviation, the Aeromat X-15 pays tribute to its namesake – the hypersonic rocket-powered North American X-15 jet. Designed by Aeromat’s Oscar Chabrat, who found himself absolutely fascinated by the X-15 after he discovered it (and virtually flew it) on a game of Flight Simulator, the Aeromat X-15 timepiece captures the story and the unbridled adrenaline rush of the rocket-powered X-15 aircraft on its design. The automatic watch itself comes with a stealthy, strictly no-nonsense design that uniquely captures the jet’s utilitarian surface treatment and form. It sports a titanium outer shell, the same material used in the X-15’s airframe, has a stellar jet-inspired caseback, and is entirely assembled in the US, quite like the very jet that inspired the watch.

The X-15 is a tribute to NASA’s most daring aeronautical project ever: The North American X-15.

When put side by side, the X-15 watch bears an instant resemblance to its jet counterpart. There’s something rather simple yet superior about the jet that reflects wonderfully in the watch’s pure design, which was co-created with Major General Joe H. Engle, the last living test-pilot to fly the X-15. The watch comes with a plated titanium case, an aviation-inspired watch-face with a unique seconds hand and a date window, and the special caseback, which sports a relief version of the X-15 as seen from the front, along with Major General Engle’s signature.

Sitting under a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass is the watch’s eye-catching face. Speaking of the rotor, the watch is powered internally by the NH35 Seiko Automatic movement, a reliable Japanese workhorse with a power reserve of over 41 hours.
