This organized desk design with hidden details will give you major Japandi feels!

The first place I hit after waking up and freshening up every morning is my work desk! I, then go on, to spend a substantial amount of my day on it, working and typing away to glory, and usually bid adieu to it by evening. And I believe this is the case for most of us since work from home became the new norm, and our home offices our new favorite hang-out spot. And now for some reason, whenever I come across a great desk design, I instantly get chills. I begin envisioning myself working on that particular desk, wondering how comfortable and ergonomic it might be to work upon. New desk designs almost excite me at this point in my life, you can say! One such desk that truly excites me is the ODU Desk.

Designed by Annabella Hevesi, there is something about the ODU Desk that instantly puts me at ease. It’s just so well-designed! Clean, minimal, and soft, it’s a desk that almost gives me Japandi feels. (Japandi is a growing design trend that merges Japanese and Scandinavian aesthetics.) It’s a warm wooden desk with a protective screen around it that ensures you have your privacy while working! It shuts off the outside world and helps you focus completely on your work. Not to mention, the wooden desk top has been integrated with little storage containers! These containers are perfect for storing your office stationery, souvenirs, and other knick-knacks you may want to place on your desk. An interesting feature is that you can actually remove and separate the containers from the desk. This is perfect for when you want to clean the nooks and crannies of the desk. The ODU desk also has two main drawers to store your larger office items such as files and documents. The handles on the drawers have been so subtly crafted that they are almost invisible! Little hidden details like these on the ODU desk are what make it such a gem. The desk is also large enough to accommodate another person on it. Both the sides of the desk have been neatly equipped with storage sections and drawers, so if for some reason you have a work buddy for the day, the two of you can easily fit on the desk, each with his/her own personal space.

The ODU desk is a one-of-a-kind furniture design that not only meets the mark when it comes to functionality but aesthetics as well. It’s a beautifully designed minimal piece, that also caters as an efficient workspace for you. It creates a productive environment for work, all the while managing to perfectly merge with the interiors of your home office. It’s the best of both worlds!

This bouncy furniture design has been inspired by the properties of a unique carbon molecule!

When it comes to deriving inspiration and churning ideas for their designs, designers leave no stones unturned. They turn to every field in an attempt to come up with the most innovative designs possible. And ODESD2 Design Bureau turned towards Chemistry, probably everyone’s least favorite subject in school, for some inspiration! Have you ever heard of a Fullerene? Well until today, neither had I. Discovered in 1985, fullerenes are mysterious carbon molecules. The carbon atoms in these molecules are connected by single or double bonds forming a closed mesh, with fused rings of five to seven atoms. These interesting molecules are used for a multitude of purposes – from creating artificial diamonds to treating asthma! In fact, these closed molecules resemble soccer balls, and are casually called BuckyBalls! And the ODESD2 Design Bureau used them as an inspiration for their furniture design ‘Buckyball’.

Besides having the same name, the furniture design also mimics the structure of the actual molecule. Buckyball is made up of six spheres, consisting of twelve pentagons each, forming an eccentric geometric structure. Much like the carbon molecules, the Buckyball seat is also extremely stable and sturdy, hence it can withstand and hold heavy loads without losing its unique shape! You can sit comfortably at the center of the seat, and move the spheres around and position them at an angle you prefer. Each Buckyball sphere has a chamber full of air, making them extra bouncy and sturdy. Created from PVC and Silicon, Buckyball is strong and has been amped with an anti-explosion technology, which prevents any damage from occurring, in case it collides with a sharp object. Buckyball’s fabric has been equipped with an Easy-Clean technology, hence getting rid of dirt, and keeping it clean is no task!

Safe for children and pets, Buckyball would make an interesting addition to any home. You can do almost anything on it – work, sleep, eat, read your favorite book, or even simply sit and do nothing. Buckyball is a super cozy and unique furniture design that would merge seamlessly with any room in your home!

The Top 10 IKEA-worthy work from home furniture designs that will be the best investments of 2021: Part 3

As much as work from home has become our new way of life, and we’ve even grown accustomed to our home office, this new norm can get a little boring at times. The work from home culture is definitely here to stay, hence we need to make the best out of this situation. One way to combat the boredom and monotony that accompanies WFH is by giving our home office a refreshing makeover! We can add exciting new furniture designs to our workspace in order to amp up productivity, efficiency, and enthusiasm. Selecting the right furniture to incorporate into our home office is extremely important, whether it’s the right desk, an ergonomic and comfortable chair, or even our choice of shelving units – all these designs play a major role in creating a fulfilling and productive work environment. Hence, we’ve curated a collection of highly functional, comfortable, and ergonomic furniture designs that promise to liven and elevate your home office!

Michael Soledad’s desk has ample space for all his gadgets whether it’s his PC, laptop, or his iPad. Don’t miss out on the nifty little headphone holder, as well as the laptop stand. Clean, minimal, and wooden, it’s got everything we love in a good desk! The Zero Gravity Balans chair was designed to be a blend of relaxation and productivity. It is the vision of what a modern chair should be – multifunctional and aesthetically pleasing. What sets this chair apart is that it has no mechanical adjustment parts, it is made to be so ergonomic that your body movements dictate its positions. You can choose to adjust it at four different angles which gives you room to be flexible with your posture and the chair to mold itself according to the space it is set in. You can sit in whatever position that is comfortable to you from kneeling to the fully reclined – one works for Netflix party and one for working from home. The Zero Gravity Balans chair’s unique form makes sure that no matter how you are seated, your body is constantly close to its balancing point, allowing the slightest shift of weight to bring you from one position to the next.

During one of my hunts for home office furniture, I came across the UFOU UPON Intelligent Sit-to-Stand Desk. UPON is supposed to be the world’s 1st e-desk with three-axis adjustments! What this basically means, is that it’s a lifting table that is adaptable to various height adjustments. The height of the desk can be freely adjusted from 650mm to 1300m, so it’s suitable for everyone, whether child or adult! It doesn’t matter how tall you are, you can easily customize the modular desk to suit your height and posture. No more straining your neck, because a desk is too short for you (I’m 5’11 and I struggle with this ALL the time). The tray can be extended up to 150mm, and the flip angle lockable from 0 to 35 degrees. All these intriguing features let you work while sitting or standing and make it suitable for a variety of activities from reading, writing, drawing to working on your laptop.

Whether you’re in bed and binging Netflix and simultaneously munching on dinner or spending the workday in bed, using the laptop in bed has probably become the world’s favorite pastime just with this past year’s WFH orders. iSwift Pi was primarily created to help those working from home feel a lot more comfortable when they choose to work from the comfort of their beds. Designed to be compact and portable, iSwift Pi boasts an ultra-thin form when folded or unfolded. When folded, the iSwift Pi is as thin as a small stack of paper, which then unfolds to two different heights, either 7.5 inches or 8.6 inches, depending on your lap situation. Then users can adjust iSwift Pi’s sitting placement to four different angles, so the screen can always meet your eyes.

Soufflé is a dynamic modular interior landscape capable of endless configurations for your flexible lifestyle and different needs. The bed/couch piece works for our rapidly changing world where workplace and home environments collide. Soufflé blends our work, life, and leisure modes into a singular, highly customizable lounge system. It challenges the status quo of what workplace and domestic furniture need to be, what it should look like, and how we use it. Initially designed for the studio’s own office space, the creators envisioned a seating system that would suit a variety of commercial settings – be it a sophisticated hotel lobby, retail destination, or workplace breakout. At home, Soufflé can be pushed together into pit mode and instantly becomes the perfect spot for movie nights, reading, or naps.

With its apt name, the Komfort Chair aims at making the WFH situation at least more comfortable. Like any good office chair, it comes with height adjustment as well as armrest and backrest adjustment… but it’s arguably the only chair that gives you the ability to even adjust seat-tilt as well as seat-depth, allowing you to sit in any configuration that’s best for your posture in relation to your furniture and workstation. The Komfort Chair even has knee-rests that swivel out, allowing you to turn it into a standing chair for better blood circulation and overall posture improvement. The Komfort is a shape-shifting ergonomic chair that supports a whole variety of configurations and styles. Designed to make you sit better for longer, its adjustable details allow you to maintain a comfortable posture no matter what your work setup is.

While you might give sitting ergonomics all your conscious effort to be right at all times, it is bound to go wary as you sit in one position for too long. Worry not, the Standsome laptop stand that’s primarily aimed at giving you a comfortable standing workstation ergonomics is one thing you need to give serious consideration. You can cater the Standsome stand to your needs as it comes with a customizable profile for people of any height. Not only that it can work equally well for sitting positions when you don’t have a table and want to work while sitting on the floor. The possibilities are endless – you can even set it up on a low height table for a long day’s work, sans any strained muscles or pains. The height-adjustable stable laptop stand crafted in Germany from FSC-certified birch wood is consciously shipped in plastic-free material, and every unit sold means a tree is planted in the Philippine rainforest. To set it up, you just have to insert the foot piece into the intended cut-out and insert the provided split pin.

Fitwork’s design sort of embodies a no-excuse mentality to being fit. Whether it’s the excuse of ‘being too busy’, or of ‘not wanting to go all the way to the gym’, Fitwork combats it by bringing the gym not just to your house, but to your workspace. Designed as a product to let you work and work out at the same time, this crazy hybrid of a desk chair and treadmill keeps your legs active while you work. Whether you’re sitting in front of a laptop or standing in front of one, it’s the sedentary lifestyle that Fitwork tackles. The setup (which is sure to grab a few eyeballs) comes with an office chair attached to a treadmill underneath, and an elliptical in front. Coupled with an elevating desk, the Fitwork allows you to keep the lower half of your body active while you work, giving you cardio as well as keeping your spine engaged, whether you’re sitting or standing while working. While you’re sitting, your legs naturally rest on the Fitwork’s elliptical, allowing you to pedal away while typing out emails or attending zoom calls without really anyone knowing what a fitness buff you are. Swivel the chair back and boost your desk upwards and you’ve got yourself a standing workout workspace. Activate the treadmill and you can walk while working… or as I call it, walking the walk while talking the talk.

A winner of the “Innovation Center” award, the SecretAir is a magical wooden block that transforms right into a completely detailed workspace whenever you need it. The design brief for the SecretAir was simple: A high-end home office solution that’s comfortable and practical during working hours, invisible after work. The office space finds a way of being both discreet as well as feature-rich at the same time. The main flap stays closed to keep your important papers and your laptop/desktop enclosed when you’re not working. However, open the flap up and secure it using its built-in magnets and you have a large, customizable workspace that accommodates all your belongings and needs without eating too much into your room’s floor space.

Balconies are only used for drying clothes, and probably for the odd Romeo Juliet scene if you have an interesting love life. Other than that, no one really uses them, even though they overlook the city and can have really breathtaking views sometimes. The Balkonzept desk fits onto any balcony, making the wonderful cityscape either your workplace or a setting for a beautiful lunch/dinner date. Available in wonderfully fresh colors, it’s sturdy enough to take the weight of a laptop, dining set, or a few potted plants. It uses a counter-balancing area which makes a great mini-garden, or even a bookcase or bottle rack. The makeshift balcony desk is just perfect for people bored of being stuck in the boring office workspace. Using the balcony, and the city’s landscape, the Balkonzept makes for a rather inspiring workplace.

Love Hulten’s quirky storage cabinet is inspired by IBM’s Magnetic Tape Unit from the 60s!

In 1964, IBM released the 2401 Magnetic Tape Unit. It was designed to be used with IBM’s celebrated System/ 360 family of computers! Though this Magnetic Tape Unit is an icon in archives, it’s still a major source of inspiration! Love Hulten designed a commissioned storage cabinet called ‘MTC’, which is inspired specifically by the IBM 2401 Magnetic Tape Unit. Almost 57 years later, and this mesmerizing unit has still got it! Showcasing white, and the primary colours red and blue, the cabinet is a quirky piece of furniture perfect for storing all sorts of items.

As intriguing as it does look, the tape mechanism is sadly for decoration purposes only! It cannot actually be operated, although running DS motors, blinking LEDs, and audio streaming of vintage computer sound samples do make it seem as if the tape unit actually does function! A control unit at the top of the cabinet, which is run by an Arduino board, can be used to regulate the motors, lights and audio. The lower section of the product functions as the actual cabinet. It has sufficient space to store a variety of diverse objects, from your office supplies to other miscellaneous items. However, I do feel MTC would be more appropriate for an office space, rather than a home space! Although the whirling noises from the tape mechanism may disturb those sincerely at work.

MTC features an interesting twist on an otherwise ordinary piece of furniture. It elevates the mundane storage cabinet by adding a playful techy detail to it that will take many people down memory lane! I do feel it’s an innovative feature that will excite all the tech geeks out there!

Minimal furniture designs with clever details that perfectly replace your Muji furniture!

A beautiful piece of furniture can complete a room. It can be the final piece that makes a space come full circle, building a comfortable and cohesive haven, rather than a random area. Furniture pieces make or break a home, they add on to the essence or soul of a home, hence one needs to be extremely picky while choosing a furniture design. The design should be a reflection of you, and what you want your home to be. When you place a piece of furniture in a room, it should instantly integrate with the space, creating a wholesome and organic environment. We’ve curated a collection of furniture designs with brilliant little details that we believe will do this! Each of these pieces is unique, well-crafted, and made with a whole lot of love, and the love really shines through in the fine detailing and workmanship. We hope you feel the love too!

Distinguished by its elegant formal shape and enhanced by its large rounded leather-wrapped arms, the Ryokō Armchair by David Girelli gives an instant feeling of calmness. Inspired by a Japanese folding chair from the 1960s, its features, materials, and joinery details elevate the lines and design elements of the chair. The loose back cushion adjusts around the ash frame when seated and offers an innovative sense of comfort.

The London Bedside Table by Lozi Designs is a clever little table inspired by the brutalist buildings in London. The long grooves on each leg of the table, allow it to lay flat against any type of wall, and the ledge around the top of the table prevents things from falling over. This compact table is full of smart little details!

The Peggy Desk by Estúdio Niz is an elegant and super functional desk for your work from home office! Sneaky little drawers and a hidden central compartments provide plenty of storage space for your office supplies and other important items. This exquisite walnut coffee table by Olof Davidsson showcases a tabletop created from herringbone parquet. The eccentric criss-cross design is a total eyecatcher. The table is accentuated further by the little cat bed on the bottom which was made using paper cord!

We love it when designers mix up materials – the result is usually a fascinating take on an everyday design. That is precisely what happened when Mark George combined his knowledge of his architectural education with his creativity – a modern concrete and wood bed frame made in Ashwood as Ash retains its original coloring.

The Rockcliffe Desk by Theo Stoppels is made from solid walnut. On closer examination, it reveals a hide-away keyboard tray that allows you to store things tidily. The joints are on this desk are sharp, clean, and precise!

The Libreria ad Incastri Bookcase by Ebanisteria Meccanica is a beautifully aged bookcase that showcases exquisitely done dovetail joints! The craftsmanship and attention to detail create a crisp and clean piece that stores your books with the care they truly deserve.

Designed by OS & OOS Studio and Klaas Kuiken with materials supplied by StoneCycling, this Terrazzo Bench is a sustainable solution for the increasing amount of glass waste produced in Zanzibar. “Zanzibar is an island with about 1 million inhabitants. In recent times, tourism has grown markedly and so too the volume of refuse. bottle-up seeks a solution to this issue. Most furniture for hotels in Zanzibar is currently imported from foreign countries and is often made of wood, which means it can be badly affected by the weather conditions on the island. Furniture made from Trending Terrazzo is much more sustainable, beautiful to look at, and generates awareness for bottle-up.”

The Tamga Stool by Tolga Sencer is a piece of art! It exhibits a linear form, comprising of criss-cross lines which are arranged in a harmonious manner, creating a cohesive piece that looks like a sculpture. The name Tamga has been inspired by the old Turkish symbols which were called Tamga as well and were visually similar to the stool.

The Coa Bench by Pērch is created from solid walnut. It’s a humble piece of furniture with sturdy and well-crafted legs that would merge perfectly with any living room! There’s something extremely homely and rustic about it.

The knots on my shoulder are at an all-time high, and I’m always on the lookout for ergonomically designed work desks and chairs, that can allow me to work for hours on end, without sacrificing my back to Satan! This bedside table with an inbuilt wireless charging hub is the trend that IKEA should pick up!

We have so many gadgets these days, and the requirement for equal charging points to keep them juiced at all times and the cables lying around gets me vexed. More so in current times when we are primarily stuck in the safe confines of our home as the variant strains of the COVID-19 virus are emerging worldwide. So, how do you keep your gadgets charged up for getting over boredom at all times, minus the hassles of wired chargers? Wireless charging is one way to do it, but the charging docs have a particular designated area where the mobile devices need to be kept for them to function. Won’t it be great if there was a side table that doubled as a wireless charging hub for all your gadgets? The ease of just keeping them on the side table when you snooze and the charging is taken care of while you rest!

The SNOOZE by Subin Cho does exactly that, and it uses magnetic resonant wireless charging technology to keep the devices charged seamlessly. This makes complete sense, as the craving for multiple wirelessly charge capable devices like smartphones, tablets, earphones, or headphones will not shun any time soon. The designer believes that the technology will be commercialized in 2023, and SNOOZE will be there to take up all the hassle for you. The charging plate built in the bedside table’s upper section charges any wireless compatible mobile device, audio accessories, or any other compatible device kept in the range of 50 cm. The light on the bedside table is an indicator of the charging range, and whenever a device comes in this area, the light turns on, and charging commences. For bedside lamp function, the swipe bar on one side can be used to control the brightness levels. The sleek, minimal design of Snooze with its modern aesthetics brings to mind a point when IKEA goes electric. And honestly, we wouldn’t mind having a range of such multifunctional products at our disposal.

The user can charge up to 6 devices simultaneously, and the compatible app shows the charge level of the particular device and the number in which the devices are connected. As for the design, the bedside table is height adjustable and comes in a very modern overall design and material finish. The drawers and the bottom section function just like any other side table to keep things like books, keychains, or other things. Overall a very sleek design that can easily see fruition due to its practicality. IKEA, I hope you are listening!

Sofa with swiveling arm is the exact WFH investment we need this 2021!

The ongoing pandemic is on a resurgence once again. If that means anything to our professional lives, we would be working from home for a long time still. Working from home has its own advantages but one of the biggest cons is the fact that you end up spending more hours on the couch completing your work – sans a proper home office setup that is. For the benefit of every working from home couch potato, recognized Portuguese designer João Teixeira has designed Brick Sofa that offers additional convenience while working.

For over a year now, we have been working from home. In the interim, if you have found the best corner to work out of, you may want to add a table or two from Teixeira’s collection. Otherwise, for some reason, the best I can guess being comfort; if you’re working from your sofa still – Teixeira’s Brick love seat with armrest attached in the center supporting a swivel shelf to place your equipment is by far the most practical option out there. The designer has also envisioned single-seater sofas that feature geometric design and promote upright posture while working.

Designed to enhance usability and convenience, the Brick is soft and modern in appearance and will integrate into any home interior and help residents enhance productivity. The swivel shelf is created to hold laptop, tablet and other equipment we use while working. This seamless approach also allows for the integration of the power supply to the armrest that doubles as a side table during your work from home activities.

This minimal and modular cat tree perfectly meets the needs of your pet, your home and you!

I own two fluffy and cozy Persian cats, and honestly, they’re the masters of my home. I’m their personal slave and butler, granter of their wishes, and 24/7 on-duty caretaker! But I love every bit of it and wouldn’t exchange my little furballs for anything in the world. And, hence I’m always on a quest to pamper them with little tidbits and gain their approval. Cats are intelligent and sensible creatures, hence ordinary little toys don’t do much for them, they need a higher level of stimulation and entertainment. Cat trees are a very commonplace and sought-after option, your cats can lounge about, play in, scamper around and channel their energy productively in these tree-like mazes. However, cat trees can occupy a substantial amount of space in your home, often clashing with your well-planned interiors and looking like an extreme eyesore! The Bien Bien Cat Tree deals with both of these problems smoothly, owing to its elegant form and visually pleasing aesthetics.

Winner of the Golden Pin Design Award, the Bien Bien Cat Tree by Cheng-Liang Wu and Chia-Wen Lin is a cat tree that also masterfully doubles up as a piece of furniture. It’s a beautiful product that caters to the needs of both your cat (s) and you, functioning as a space that can be utilized and shared by humans and felines alike. You can build the modular cat tree all by yourself, its modularity allows it to be assembled in various ways, according to personal requirements, space restrictions, and of course, the moods of your cat. There are several shelving options for you to store your precious belongings in, as well as little nooks and crannies for your pet to sleep and play around in. Multiple accessories can be attached as means of recreation for your cat, and my favorite one, hands down, is the tiny hammock! Imagine that, a snug hammock for your furry friend to lay in as if on vacation. Your cat can easily climb from one level to another, and the grid-like section also provides them with a sense of privacy. It creates a safe space where they can enjoy their own company without feeling completely isolated from their surroundings. The lower level is also a nifty and accessible spot to place their food and water bowls in!

The Bien Bien Cat Tree’s clean and straightforward structure, elegant usage of wood, and minimal aesthetics allow it to integrate and merge with the interiors of your home perfectly. It stands as a wholesome piece of furniture that harmoniously becomes a part of your home, a design that not only you can enjoy, but so can your cat!
