Razor Is Making a Real Life Mario Kart with the Crazy Cart XL

Mario Kart is awesome, but it just makes you wish you had a real life version to zip around in and throw banana peels and turtle shells. Well Razor is making a real life version. The Razor Cray Cart XL is a follow-up to a smaller version they made for kids a while back. This one is much cooler.

mario kart for adultsmagnify

This one is for the adults who want some real life Mario Kart fun. It will accommodate a 6’3″ 250-pound rider and has even been tested up to 300 pounds. I wouldn’t push it too far past that limit though, for all you Comic Book Guy types out there.

See it in action in the video here. It looks super fun.

The Crazy Cart XL will retail for $800 when it goes on sale in December and will make one heck of a Christmas present.

Bubba Watson’s hovercraft golf cart available now for $58k, that’s one dollar for every jealous comment

Bubba Watson's hovercraft golf cart available now for $58k, that's one dollar for every jealous comment

When we first saw the BW1 golf cart hovercraft, it's fair to say we were excited. But now -- if you've got burdensome disposable income -- you can buy one for yourself. If you're willing to drop the requisite $58,000, you can cruise the fairway (not to mention the rough and water obstacles) in a BW1 of your very own. It comes complete with a 65-hp twin-cylinder Hirth engine and a streamlined, sound minimizing fan that promises enough power to reach 45 mph and ferry two golfers plus caddies between holes. So, it may not be for those still improving their technique, but for the swinger that's got everything, it's the perfect ride for your trip to the floating golf course.

Guy Makes Mobile Office from IKEA Parts

Hey, when you have a new baby you have to make some major sacrifices. Less video games, maybe free up some room in the home. Stuff like that. IKEA Hacker Ian from Los Angeles had to give up his home office when a new baby was on the way. Well, he took it as a challenge and created an impressive mobile home office built out of IKEA pieces.

ikea table mod 1 Ian took an IKEA stainless steel kitchen work table, some IKEA computer tower desk trays, two steel tabletops, and two grated steel shelves and made a mobile “office” that could be packed away into a closet when not in use. Judging by the images, he did an awesome job. You can check out a more detailed image of the entire build here.

Well done Ian. How much do you want to bet this thing turns into a diaper changing table as well?

Legend of Zelda prototype cartridge goes to auction: $150,000 proves your loyalty to Hyrule (video)

Legend of Zelda prototype cartridge

And you thought that Nintendo World Championships gold cartridge would make a nice start to the retirement fund. An eBay auction from tjcurtin1 is offering a prototype NES cartridge for the US release of The Legend of Zelda at a Buy It Now price of $150,000, or roughly ten times more than the typical final bid that Price Charting quotes for a typical NWC cart. While it looks like an unassuming yellow chunk of plastic, it's actually a Nintendo of America copy from February 23, 1987 -- half a year before the definitive action adventure reached the US market. The game still plays and can even save its game on the still functional, industry-first battery backup. Just remember that it's not necessarily going to reveal any design secrets from Shigeru Miyamoto or Takashi Tezuka: the seller warns that he can't see any practical differences between the early copy and the (also included) shipping version. Anyone well-heeled enough to buy the prototype is therefore going solely for the collector's value. But for those determined to be the coolest kid on any block about 25 years late, there's only one way to go.

MIT Student Constructs Mario Kart Racer, Cafeteria Runs out of Bananas

Charles Guan, an MIT grad student, has created a working replica of the vehicles from Super Mario Kart. It is powered by four motors attached to the wheels and can reach speeds upwards of 26 mph. It can also do some crazy turns when the driver leans into the curves.
Mario Kart
Even more amazing than the kart itself is how quickly he made the thing. He fabricated it in just three weeks. The vehicle, called the “Chibikart,” is built to be as lightweight as possible. The frame is just 30-inches long and 18-inches wide. Check it out in action in the video clip below:

So, how did he make it so fast? Guan installed a 32-volt battery and electrical system along with an e-bike controller from China to run the power plant of the vehicle. Installed underneath the seat, this drives each of the electrical motors installed in the four small wheels. Sweet. Now he needs to build more and hold Mario Kart races once a year.
