AIMOOV smart camera turns any TV into your personal fitness trainer

Personal fitness at home has seen a rise in the past years, but despite the convenience of never having to go out to the gym, not everyone has been able to embrace this healthier lifestyle for various reasons. Those include the cost of home fitness equipment and subscriptions as well as doubts about the correctness of the exercises you’re doing. Just as you don’t really need expensive equipment to exercise at home, you might not also need a human trainer to always be looking over your shoulder, especially not with today’s technologies. Combining the latest innovations in imaging and AI, this smart camera is able to transform any TV into your home gym, complete with an intelligent coach that will nudge you a bit when your form is wrong, ensuring that you get the best workout even when you’re all alone at home.

There are actually very few reasons why we can’t exercise at home, at least not including whatever creative excuses our brains can come up with. Rarely do you need specialized equipment, especially when your own body or some pieces of furniture can be used to provide the necessary tools for that. The one valid concern on people’s minds would be the potential injury they might incur if they do the exercises right. Usually, you’d need a personal trainer to guide you through the proper movements, but thankfully, we now have AI for that as well.

AIMOOV is the combination of a camera that connects to any TV with an HDMI port and an AI that acts as your fitness coach. The system works so simply that it’s almost like magic, or at least the sci-fi magic of a futuristic smart house where a computer-generated coach exists on your TV. The simplicity of the camera, which is about the size of a soda can, belies the advanced technologies that lie inside. A Sony STARVIS sensor, for example, makes sure that you can use AIMOOV even when there’s little light in the room. It can connect to your smartphone and smartwatch to give you more insight into your fitness goals. And thanks to its privacy cover and the fact that it has no mic, you can always be assured of your privacy when you’re not using it.

The secret sauce of AIMOOV is, of course, in the AI trainer. It offers a wide range of workouts from professional coaches to match whatever fitness goals you might have. It then watches your every move so that it can correct your form when it detects that something is wrong, reducing the risk of injuries and optimizing your exercise efficiency. You can also control the whole program using gestures, so you won’t have to reach out for a remote control or phone in the middle of a workout. And when you’re in need of some morale boost, you can connect to your Spotify account and play your favorite music as you move to the beat.

AIMOOV on your smartphone and smartwatch.

Given what it offers, it might come as a shock that AIMOOV will only set you back around $204 for a Super Early Bird discount on Kickstarter. Not only does that land you the camera, which would normally cost around $315, you also get a free lifetime subscription that is equivalent to a $16 monthly value. With AIMOOV, you really have no more excuses not to stay fit and healthy at home. All you need is to dress up and be present and let the AI guide you to your best workout yet.

This tiny IoT ball may be the connected, punching workout you need

One of the constant challenges for me personally is to find a workout that I will not get bored with, that will help me shed pounds, and that will not be so difficult. I know that probably said workout that meets all those factors still doesn’t exist but when the day comes when that will happen will probably be the happiest day of my life (and my doctor too). For now, I’m always on the lookout for products or at least concepts that may appeal to this couch potato who’s desperately in need of a workout.

Designers: Katerina Kopytina, Nikita Bukuros

One such product concept that is pretty interesting is Bownce, a small ball that can get your perspiring and training your muscle groups with the help of technology. It calls itself “the first IoT ball of its kind”. It is small enough and easy to install that you can bring it with you to the office, outside in your backyard, or wherever room/space in your house you feel most comfortable. It’s also small enough that it’s not that intimidating, especially for newbies like me that want to start punching things.

What makes it different from other workout balls, aside from its size, is that it has integrated electric components so you’ll be able to track your performance. The app that you connect to the device logs your punches when you work out and gives you real-time statistics so you can adjust how you punch, how fast you do it, the force, duration, etc. The device is attached to the ceiling and the floor, with a small ball on a string and it is connected to the app.

Think of it as a punching bag that’s not a bag but a small ball. The floor fixture is able to let the ball move freely and bounce back (hence, the name) after hitting. I don’t know about the force needed to hit the ball but it seems that you need some to be able to consider this a workout anyway. The fact that it looks simple and not overwhelming like your usual punching stuff is what appeals to me. The fact that it’s IoT also is a bonus. Now whether I won’t get bored with it is the main question.

This motor-powered fitness machine can fit in bags or even a large pocket

There has been a great deal of interest in home fitness machines in the past few years, but that trend also made many of us painfully aware of how little space we might have in our homes or apartments. That situation is even more poignant for people who are always on the go yet want to retain a healthy and active lifestyle wherever they are. Of course, some people are also able to use this limitation as an excuse to skip a few workouts in the middle of the week, finding no place to set up any kind of exercise equipment in the middle of their office. But what if you could bring your gym equipment with you anywhere you go? That’s the proposition that this fitness machine in a box is making, with a solution that’s partly inspired by the latest innovations in robotics.

Designer: Unitree

Click Here to Buy Now: $159 $259 ($100 off). Hurry, less than 72 hours left! Raised over $520,000.

Unitree is a company better known for its robotics, particularly its quadruped robots, not unlike Boston Dynamic’s Spot. That, however, isn’t its only creation, and it has been able to apply the fruits of its inventions and research into something so unrelated but perhaps even more meaningful for regular people. That is the Unitree PUMP, a new kind of portable exercise machine that can replace almost all your gym equipment in training 90% of your muscle groups, whether at home, in the office, or in a hotel room.

At the heart of the PUMP is the robotics company’s unique motor system that can adjust its resistance up to 44lbs (20kg) to give you the most efficient workout, unlike your typical elastic resistance bands. You no longer have to suffer too much resistance or no resistance at all, allowing you to have a consistent pump every time you lift or pull. On a full charge, the motor can last 1,000 reps, and any USB-C power bank can extend your workout in a flash. When you work out, you generate energy that PUMP can convert into electricity. This electricity, in turn, can be used to charge other devices, such as your smartphone. With one press of the Power Generation button, you can turn the PUMP into a makeshift power bank for your mobile device.

Concentric Mode – You can customize resistance from 11 – 44lbs (5-20kg) and a ratio from 0-50%.

Eccentric Mode – Gives you more burn when you’re releasing the weight, giving your muscles more time under pressure.

Constant Mode – Adjust the resistance range from 4.4 – 44lbs (2-20kg). The resistance will be the same whether you’re pulling the rope out, or releasing it back in.

Chain Mode – Choose resistance from 4.4 – 44lbs (2-20kg), but it allows you to schedule resistance and let PUMP adjust resistance automatically while you train.

The best feature of the PUMP, however, is its size. At only 700g and 10cm wide, the box can easily fit in any bag or suitcase. It can even fit in a pocket if you have one large enough to hold it. It can also anchor to almost anything, from door frames to floor to even your foot. This simple configuration is already enough to support multiple exercises, like bicep curls, standing rows, squats, rows, and so much more. Additionally, PUMP offers four training modes, including concentric, eccentric, constant, and chain, each with its own resistance setting. And with just a few accessories, you can have your own space-saving rowing machine, exercise bar, or power rack. You really have fewer excuses to get pumping, no matter where you are.

The PUMP also has a few smarts, thanks to both the built-in controller inside the box as well as its companion smartphone app. In addition to recording your reps and calories burned, the PUMP app also features tutorials and training plans to guide you along your way to a healthier lifestyle. And for those who want a more interesting way to exercise, fitness games based on traditional weight training can add a bit of excitement and fun to your daily regimen.

With Unitree PUMP, you can live the active life you’ve always wanted, anywhere and anytime. Freed from the constraints of space, this innovative motor-powered device can take the place of multiple exercise equipment that takes up almost no space at all. For only $159, you can have your own personal gym in a bag, ready for you to work up a sweat when and where you want to.

However, if you’re still a bit of a lazy bum (like me), and actually landing up at the gym can feel like a task on most days – then this collection of designs is for you. This collection of exercise equipment will not only motivate you to work out in the comfort of your own home, but will also ensure you stick to your daily exercise routine in the future. From a clever and thoughtful home gym that merges with your living room to an electric bike that doubles up as a exercise machine  – these innovative exercise equipment will prevent you from skipping leg day!

1. AROUND

This concept for a spinning bike called AROUND tries to have a softer look as compared to those super serious exercise bikes you see in the gyms. The light gray color makes it more approachable and the flywheel body design makes it ideal to have at home, as part of your living room furniture, or even in your bedroom. The mood board for their design concept includes mollusks and portable water purifiers as well as other previous designs from Yifeeling.

Why is it noteworthy?

This exercise bike also has a tuyere-like design instead of just the regular faucet handle seen on exercise machines so you get a bit of breeze while you’re spinning. This should be able to simulate the air flowing through you at least if you’re biking outdoors. There’s a small monitor in the handle so you can watch something while biking as some find it a bit boring to just cycle indoors.

What we like

  • The tuyere-like design allows you to get a bit of breeze while spinning
  • Soft aesthetics

What we dislike

  • The seat looks pretty uncomfortable

Once you complete your workout, the bench seat and arm surface seamlessly transform into a massage experience. This concept bike doubles as a two-wheeler at least and doesn’t sit in a lonely corner in your living room, in case you give up on your fitness regime. 6. The Fiture

Fitness mirrors are not completely new, but they experienced a spike in interest and popularity in the past months as people tried to cope with having no access to gyms or personal trainers at home. The idea is to have a device that lets you communicate with a remote trainer while you go through your exercises at home. The mirror acts as a display that guides you through the reps while a trainer watches you from the other side of the wire. There are already quite a few of these in the market, but Fiture believes it has a better chance of ending up in your house because of two differentiating features.

Why is it noteworthy?

While the generically named “The Mirror” also lays claim to that title, the Fiture does one better by offering five colorways to match your decor or wallpaper. The shape of the mirror itself is more visually pleasing, employing rounded corners and brushed metal surfaces to make the frame look more aesthetic. The U-shaped legs provide stability when the mirror isn’t mounted on the wall while also giving it a more distinctive style.

This innovative home exercise equipment integrates a punching bag, smart speaker and interactive illumination technology

The COVID-19 pandemic definitely taught us one thing – that health is wealth, And, now that gyms have opened up, our workout routines have finally achieved a certain semblance of normalcy! However, if you’re still a bit of a lazy bum (like me), and actually landing up at the gym can feel like a task on most days, then BOOM may be the product for you. Designed by Shuxian Hong, Boom is a smart boxing bag meant to bring the workout experience to your home. It integrates a punching bag, a smart speaker, and interactive illumination technology into a streamlined boxing experience, designed specifically for your home.

Designer: Shuxian Hong

Boxing is an amazing source of cardio – that can be extremely helpful for people suffering from heart diseases, diabetes, and obesity. However, training at home with a boxing bag isn’t something people prefer to do. Before designing Boom, Hong visited an underground boxing club, wherein she spoke to the students, and discovered, that even though many of them own a boxing bag at home, they rarely use it. It is often difficult to enjoy boxing without the thrilling and adrenaline-creating environment of a gym or a boxing studio. Through Boom, Hong wanted to reinvent the boxing experience, making it enjoyable even in the comfort of your own home.

When not being used to actually box, Boom can function as a home speaker, that perfectly merges with the rest of your living space. You can pair it up with your TV or other smart devices, and activate it via Siri or Alexa, through a simple command. When you use Boom to box, the interactive lighting system starts up! Lighting elements, lively music, and voice instructions create a truly interactive and engaging boxing experience. Amped with a Smart Coach app, the device creates custom fitness plans and workout routines for you. It even provides tutorial kits depending on the user – whether it’s a family, a solo trainer, or couple! It also visualizes the user’s progress to help track progress, and create routines based on individual progress.

Measuring 68 inches, it’s perfect for users of different heights to practice boxing aimed at the entire range of the body. The main punching bag is placed on a rounded speaker which functions as the base platform of the product. The bag has been filled with high-density foam, and wrapped up in synthetic leather, with an electronic pressure sensor placed underneath. A piece of durable photic fabric is wrapped around the entire bag as well, which also features an illuminated optical fiber with LED lights. To ensure that the product stands stably, and does not move at all, a base with weighted sand has been added to facilitate roll relocation. Ten suction cups provide further support to the bag.

The Boom is a modern-style boxing bag, that functions as great exercise equipment for your home. It encourages an interactive workout routine, which you can personally track and monitor. And, when not in use it doubles up as a handy piece of tech, which harmoniously blends with your home.

This sustainable multi-stretching tool can be used by pro athletes to physical therapy patients

Gyms have opened up, and our workout routines have finally achieved a certain semblance of normalcy at this point! However, if you’re still a bit of a lazy bum (like me), and actually landing up at the gym can feel like a task on most days, then Castleflexx could be the product to help you take a break from your sedentary lifestyle. Essentially, Castleflexx is “a multi-purpose stretching and strength tool designed to help athletes, fitness enthusiasts, or anyone with chronic pain improve both their flexibility, core strength, and mobility.”

Designer: Dan Castle x Leadoff Studio

Fed up with his own lower back pain, and in an attempt to improve it, Dan Castle created a prototype of Castleflexx with a biomechanical engineer and then approached Leadoff Studio. They set a goal to build a product from sustainable materials that could cater to the needs of a wide range of users – from professional athletes to elderly patients. They crafted Casteflexx from three materials – recyclable aluminum, sustainably harvested cork, and RPET fabric made from 100% recycled plastic bottles. The smart product is designed to last a lifetime and is microbial as well.

An ergonomic aluminum bae features natural cork handles on both ends, while a piece of non-stretch fabric connects to the bar, and can be expanded to create a “foot hammock”, on which users can position their heels. Users can either lay on their back, or sit on a chair, grip the handles, and flex their toes backward, leading to a flexed plantar fascia. There’s also a mid-bar cut-out to add a 2-pound magnetic weight whenever needed for increased resistance, and specialized mobility workouts.

Besides its sustainable construction, what Castleflexx essentially does is, it focuses on the posterior chain of the lower limb by stretching the soft tissues of your toes, foot, calf, and hamstring. It helps your fascial and nerve tissue release, in turn, improving issues related to lower back pain,  herniated discs, and plantar fasciitis. Casteflexx’s goal is to make ‘Prehab’ an easy and accessible process, and to ensure people can prevent injuries from even happening!

Castleflexx is designed to be a portable and travel-friendly product that you can carry anywhere with you! Besides being easy to carry, and user-friendly – it was also designed to have a universal appeal or functionality. In fact, The Atlanta Braves used CastleFlexx in their 2021 World Series championship season to increase speed and mobility! It’s fit for professional athletes to stretch with, but can also be used by physical therapy patients, or even individuals suffering from arthritis. It’s truly a lightweight and effortlessly accessible device that can be used by a wide range of people!

NEW JOY has a very unconventional take on outdoor tables and benches

When we go outside, we often have a purpose or a destination. Sometimes, however, we also sometimes just want to be outdoors without going anywhere. Sometimes, you might want to work while standing up or chat with friends for a few minutes. Other times you might just want to give your feet a rest while waiting for someone and sipping coffee. In these cases, people are often just in a state of pause rather than completely settling down for long periods of time. This is the kind of inactivity that this outdoor furniture concept is designed for, creating a space for people to stop, stand, and sit, all while still adopting an active lifestyle, ironic as that may sound.

Designers: Chaoze Zhong and Chang Wu of Wild Zoo Design Studio

The NEW JOY collection of outdoor furniture immediately strikes one as unconventional from the first time you see it. In terms of both form and material, the design is inspired by round tubes or pipes that you’d see in public facilities. Although they can be painted with different colors, there is still something inherently raw with their appearance, especially with the use of simple lines and circles to form the structure of the benches and tables.

Appearance isn’t the only area where these pieces of furniture stand out. Their form and function revolve around the idea of remaining active even while not in mention, as well as offering opportunities to exercise at a moment’s notice. These ideas of rest and movement seem so diametrically opposed that it’s quite interesting to see them together in a single piece.

1

The table, for example, is meant to be used while standing up, but that isn’t exactly unheard of. What makes it different is that you’re supposed to stand on a round platform that you can rotate with your feet. This way, you can twist your body or keep moving even while you’re working on your laptop or talking with other people. It does raise some concerns about whether such motions are actually safe, especially outdoors where one could fall on pavement or hard ground when caught off-balance.

The bench, on the other hand, looks almost uninviting and uncomfortable, which is somewhat the point. Instead of being something you can lounge on, it is more like a temporary parking space while you wait for someone or finish your drink. It can also be used for leg presses or other light exercises, though you should be in proper gear if you want to do anything more strenuous than those. The small table can hold drinks, phones, handbags, or even laptops, though the bench’s crude shape might not make it ideal for long periods of work.

The NEW JOY’s simple design and use of easily accessible materials make it easy to produce and distribute. There’s even enough room to use more sustainable materials, like wood and recycled metal, while using existing production pipelines to conserve resources. Admittedly, it’s not something one would consider to be aesthetically captivating, but such easy-to-build outdoor furniture does have its place in public spaces that try to offer places to rest without encouraging loitering.

Designed to give every single muscle in your body an intense workout, the CLMBR helps 60% more calories than running, rowing & bike workouts… and its vertical design allows it to fit into the smallest of homes and rooms. On the floor, the CLMBR occupies roughly 3×3 feet of space or about as much as two doormats. Most of the CLMBR’s gear is oriented vertically, which allows it to do two things – A. Occupy a fraction of the space of a home-gym yet give you all of it, and B. Use gravity to its advantage to make your workouts more intense and effective.

10. ONEBOT-S7

To ensure portability and convenience, the ONEBOT-S7 uses a unique three-fold structure – as opposed to the two-step folding design that we all are familiar with – which makes the e-bike ultra-compact when folded so it can fit in the boot of the car or slide under your workstation (however and wherever you please to use it). Compressed into the smallest single unit possible, this e-bike when folded measure only 60cm in height and length and just 35cm in width. ONEBOT-S7 is fitted with a removable battery pack in the frame, tucked neatly under the seat post. It sits there unobstructed and blends with the uniform frame design and colorway eliminating any distraction from the chrome-like finish of the e-bike.

These earbuds let you tune the music tempo to your heart beat while exercising

While the best earbuds in the industry vouch to cut out active noise, and provide customized sound signatures; there isn’t one that can help you streamline the music tempo to your exercise pace. Thankfully now, a sports metronome concept aptly called Tempo envisions to do just that.

Listening to your favorite music while sweating it out in the gym helps improve the quality of exercise and lifts up your mood. You perhaps don’t want me to tell you this, but you have surely experienced it for yourself. But a secondary effect of music plugged in the ears while exercising is that one can unconsciously pace up or mellow down depending on the tempo of what you’re listening to. This is one primary reason many fitness enthusiasts avoid music whilst exercising.

Designer: Gianni Teruzzi and DCA Design

Tempo, the sports metronome is designed to be worn in the ears like a pair of snugly fitting earbuds and comes with the driver as its remote control. Before we get into the design and facets, let’s brush up on the idea behind the Tempo. Without having the user compromise the impact of music on their performance, The gadget can be specifically set up to guide or be motivated by user’s pace. This works on the similar principle of the metronome used by musicians to produce a steady pulse to play rhythms accurately – here the pulse is measured in beats-per-minute (BPM) and this concept is picked up by the pair of earbuds in discussion.

So, Tempo can without fuss let the user pre-config the music bests – at BPM – they are listening to on the fly, in the middle of their routine, so what is heard is in tune with the exercising pace. The earbuds can directly tap into the music library of Spotify and Apple Music, streaming it directly into the user’s ears wirelessly. The controls for track change, volume controls, etc., are on the left earbud, while the right one helps toggle the rhythm of the music to the value of the BPM; just tap and set the pace of the music you’re streaming from your favorite platform! Taking things a little further, Tempo can switch the rhythm manually or automatically by controlling BPM through your heart rate.

The pair of earbuds come along with a drive that acts as their remote control. This is not so much of individual use – for you have onboard controls on the earbuds – this is primarily for coaches who can simultaneously tune a common rhythm for a team. Both driver and earbuds are packaged into a charging case, which can be charged using a USB-C port. The earbuds also arrive standalone in a charging and protection case.

Fiture offers a stylish fitness mirror that can fit with your room decor

There has been an uptick in personal fitness equipment and platforms in the past two years or so, with many people stuck at home and having no access to public gyms or outdoor spaces. Some of these seemed exorbitantly overpriced while offering little over common exercise machines. Others, on the other hand, are more accessible but make no effort to hide their less than aesthetic appearances. Striking a balance between useful and beautiful has been a delicate dancing act for many new companies, but one newcomer believes it has struck gold with a smart home device that lets you do your exercise in the privacy of your own room while it looks almost as pretty as your bedroom’s full-length mirror. In fact, it actually works like one.

Designer: Fiture

Fitness mirrors are not completely new, but they experienced a spike in interest and popularity in the past months as people tried to cope with having no access to gyms or personal trainers at home. The idea is to have a device that lets you communicate with a remote trainer while you go through your exercises at home. The mirror acts as a display that guides you through the reps while a trainer watches you from the other side of the wire. There are already quite a few of these in the market, but Fiture believes it has a better chance of ending up in your house because of two differentiating features.

The first and the most apparent is that the Fiture fitness mirror actually looks more like a fancy home mirror than a machine masquerading as one.

Unlike other fitness mirrors, however, the Fiture isn’t a two-way mirror into your house, one of the biggest concerns interested buyers have. It’s for this purpose that the company invented what it calls “Motion Engine Technology” to protect your privacy. In a nutshell, the mirror and your trainer only see skeleton points as you move, so you can work out with bed hair, and no one will be the wiser. When not in use, you can even put on the magnetic camera cover to completely block out even this AI-based technology.

The Fiture isn’t cheap, of course, especially when you add the monthly subscription that gives you access to content and trainers. Then again, you might end up paying more with a gym membership that doesn’t give you the same privacy and convenience of an at-home workout. Plus, you also get to have a full-body mirror that doesn’t look like a fitness device when not in use. Just don’t forget to put on the camera cover when you’re dong using it, just in case.
