This tripod-inspired adjustable desk goes from sitting to standing while working from home!

Nowadays, many of us are working from home and that means our workspaces are probably also benefitting from some home makeover projects. Being able to work comfortably from your own living space is critical for not just a steady workflow, but also for both maintaining and preserving our mental health. With the disaster of a year that was 2020, the need for a relaxed work-from-home space could not be overstated. Inspired by today’s unprecedented working culture, the creatives at Intension Design came out with their Tripod Standing Desk, an adjustable, portable, and multifunctional desk designed specifically to confront the restlessness and inconvenience that too often accompanies working from home.

The desk itself is carved from Baltic birch and its supplementary, multifunctional tripod is constructed from aircraft-grade aluminum. The Tripod Standing Desk comes with its tabletop in either Baltic birch, walnut, black, or white, a multifunctional tripod and carrying case, a quick-release plate, and finally, two non-scratch laptop stops for angled working. Once the standing desk’s preferred height, anywhere between 1.8 and 4.8 feet, and angle, which can rest at an incline or lay flat, is chosen then users will only have to tighten the tripod’s quick-release clamps like they would with a typical tripod used to mount cameras. Additionally, the Tripod Standing Desk is portable and only weighs 4.5 pounds, making it easy to work in tight spaces while traveling or changing rooms.

Already making the good kind of waves across plenty of digital platforms, the Tripod Standing Desk’s immovable stability is achieved from a mathematically proven ratio defined by the tabletop’s 12-inch length and 16-inch width and the tripod’s maximum three-foot width. With the onset of Tripod Standing Desk’s launch, many users were hopeful to see a larger tabletop option in the future. Addressing this request, the designers also explain why working with a larger tabletop could be difficult, “The problem with a bigger tabletop is it becomes harder to maintain balance since the desk is resting on a tripod…we have decided to stay away from a bigger tabletop for now since it’s not as stable.”

While a larger tabletop might be out of the question for Intension Design, for an additional cost, the desk comes with a clamp-on platform for extra functional space ideal for either a mouse or other working accessory. Proving what can get done with just one wooden tabletop and an adjustable tripod, teachers and yoga instructors alike have chosen the Tripod Standing Desk for their work-from-home spaces because, with changeable heights and angles, the Tripod Standing Desk can be used for anything from home fitness instruction to painting.

The work-from-home gear you should actually buy

You may feel out of your element if you’re one of the millions of people that have recently transitioned to work-from-home life. Being productive when not in a typical office environment can be a challenge even in the best of times, but there are a n...

Lie down and work from home without compromising on your productivity!

At first glance, the Altwork mechanical desk can remind you of the dentist’s work station but this is actually the craziest desk I have seen since I started looking for things that can up my work-from-home game. This desk is designed to suit your every need and really just whim at this point. Stand up desk? Yes! Lie down desk? Also, yes! As outrageous as it might be to spend close to $8000 on a work desk, I will admit that it would be nice to have one of these Altwork stations.

The Altwork desk claims to be the ultimate in productivity and ergonomics….and I agree, I have never seen a desk so flexible that it is practically a gymnast who also cares about your posture. This desk encourages productivity by molding itself to any position that you feel your best in. I personally love to stand and work but I don’t like being stuck in the same place, I work best when I move around and this desk allows me the freedom to do both! There is a demographic that may have health problems which makes it hard for them to sit at a conventional desk and chair in an office. This causes them to lose out on many job opportunities that they might excel at simply because there wasn’t a solution for “How will they sit in the office?” but, thankfully, technology today has given us the ability to work from anywhere and this desk’s shape-shifting form makes it a part of the inclusive design world which caters to the needs of differently-abled. Productivity and health is a universal right.

It is also healthy to keep changing our work positions throughout the day, so alternate between the usual reclining, standing and sitting but also come up with some innovative positions. Like can you do a yoga pose that is good for your back while sitting on this? Probably, yes. With the comfortable headrest and footrest, you can also nap right after your work is done. This desk is work-from-home furniture goals.

Maxtand gives your laptop an infinitely adjustable Pro Stand without costing $1500

Here’s a thought I’ve been having for quite a while now. As desirable and functional as a product may be, price does play a pivotal role in whether someone purchases it or not… so sitting here, I’ve got no problems saying that Apple’s $1500 Pro Stand is an immaculately designed product, but is it good enough to be in my home or my office? Sadly, no it isn’t.

What the Maxtand manages to get right is its ability to do quite what the Pro Stand does, at 5% of the price. Yep, you heard me right. With a price tag of just $85, the Maxtand is 95% cheaper than Apple’s Pro Stand, and it works with any laptop, monitor, or even with other accessories like a projector or a wireless keyboard. Maxtand comes from the same guys that brought us the Ridge Stand for laptops, now with a maximum height of 15 inches, allowing you to not just height-adjust your laptop, but to turn your entire desk into a standing desk. With three pivot-points and pretty reliable friction-hinges inside them, the Maxtand can be used in a variety of configurations, at various angles, and can take loads of over 70 pounds. Designed to be powerfully versatile, it can be used with your laptop or your monitor to give you the precise angle and height you’re looking for.

The Maxtand comes with a lightweight aircraft-grade aluminum body, and compresses to a mere height of 1.75 inches when completely shut, allowing you to easily move it around or carry it where you go. You can either clip it to your desk at work, use it as a hovering table when you’re working in bed, or even use it on the floor; with a desktop monitor, a tablet, or even a laptop, allowing you to work anywhere with comfort and without straining yourself. Whether you’re looking for a standing-desk setup, or whether you’d like to position your laptop at an angle as you type away on a wireless keyboard, or just if you need a small table to work while you’re on your sofa, or in bed, the Maxtand’s combination of a robust construction with a flexible and practical design (that works with monitors, laptops, tablets, projectors, etc.) makes it an ideal addition to your workspace, no matter where it is! Plus major points for that incredibly competitive price-tag.

Autonomous.ai SmartDesk 2 Adjustable Standing Desk Review

I’ve had a crappy desk for as long as I can remember. It was too small, uncomfortable and wobbly. I worked on that same desk for nearly a decade, mostly because I didn’t think anything else would be better. Then the folks at Autonomous reached out and asked me to check out their SmartDesk 2. At first I was like, “I’ll never stand up to work it hurts my knees.”

Then the desk showed up, I built it and realized that standing up to work is very comfortable for my back and neck. I really love it standing to work and having the ability to sit as well. The entire build process took me about an hour, by myself and that was with me taking pictures and yelling at the dog to leave me alone.

The awesome part about the SmartDesk 2 is that the entire thing is automated. You press buttons to raise or lower the desk and it has three memory presets. This means that you can get the exact height you need for the most comfort, and press a button to go directly to your favorite sitting or standing position. At 5’9″ I am mostly torso and have long arms. The problem always had with other desks was in order to have my feet comfortably on the ground, the desk was always too low, and my knees ran into it. The SmartDesk 2 fixed that allowing me to chose the perfect height, with a height range of 24″ to 51″.

That means you can find different heights for you or someone who shares a desk with you and with a single button press, the SmartDesk 2 will raise and lower itself in near silence. In fact, I can move the desk up and down all I want with my kids asleep a room away and no one knows I am doing it. In addition to its adjustability, it has a nice cable management system, with two holes in the desk with covers for cable pass-through and cable holders underneath to keep wires from dangling down in the middle.

I am a basic black sort of guy, so I originally ordered the SmartDesk 2 with a black frame and black top. A basic desk with a 53″ x 30″ top and black frame with the full electric height adjustment sells for just $299. I’m not sure how Autonomous can sell this desk for that price. It’s the same price or cheaper than some manual standing desks I have seen online. After the desk showed up, I realized I had so much more room in my office area that I could have gone with the big 70″ x 30″ top, the good news for me and you is that you can use that top with the same frame. Autonomous sent me out that larger top, I installed it, and for $549 total, I have the best desk I have ever used.

The dual-motor Business Edition, which is the desk shown here, is meant for people with dual monitors or other heavy loads, and has a capacity of 300 pounds. You can get a home edition that has 220 pound capacity, which has a single drive motor.

I really can’t say enough good things about this desk. It’s very well priced, comfortable, and looks fantastic. I highly recommend the Autonomous.ai SmartDesk 2.
