These Cases Are Made From A Thin Layer Of Stone

Look, there’s all kinds of cases, skins, and varying protective accessories for your valuable MacBook or iPhone. They’re usually all boring, except these ones from ROXXLYN. That’s because they’re made from a super thin (0.6mm) layer of actual rock, be it quartzite, marble or slate. They add very little weight due to their thinness, something in the range of 40g to 50g. There’s all kinds of different color combinations, but no two are identical since they do come from actual natural stones. They’ll cover MacBook Pros, Airs, and plain MacBooks. There’s also versions of the same for iPhones and some briefcases as well. Prices range in the €84 to €168 range ($87 to $175USD).

Gotta Hymn ’em all!

aurlios_chapel_1

That’s one interesting Poke-stop! I mean chapel! I feel like I’ve gone on a pilgrimage to catch Pokemon given that each PokeStop is a religious building/monument. I’ve however noticed that there’s this signature style to churches, cathedrals, etc. They were probably made highly ornate, back in the day as an appeasement to the gods… but our sense of aesthetics has surely evolved in past few centuries, has it not? The Aurelios Chapel shows that a religious monument can look breath-taking without all the intricate marble carving and stained glass. It uses a beautiful blend of wood and stone with just a hint of marble to give the chapel an auspicious aura. I have to say that I absolutely love the way the skylight channels the rays of the sun inwards to make it look like a halo around the idol. This also gives the chapel an unusually eye-catching outer silhouette. I’d totally drop by everyday to get my share of blessings and Pokeballs!

Man Hides Resume in Large and Heavy Tablets: Applying for the Position of Quest Giver

Redditor mrdeepimmersion wanted to apply for a game design job at Wizards of the Coast’s Dungeons & Dragons team. Thinking that his electrical and computer engineering background put him at a disadvantage, he decided to show off his creativity by making a 70lb. resume. Cover letter? Pffft. This resume came with a chisel and a hammer.

Mrdeepimmersion designed and 3D printed a tablet, then used that to make silicone molds. Then he made the final two tablets using the molds, some plastic and a marble-like filler material. One side of each tablet reads, “Whosoever shatters this tablet will have the ability to summon a powerful ally; but be warned, doing so will change the future, forever.” The other side is an illustration of said powerful ally.

Mrdeepimmersion made two copies of the tablet (and hid his resume in both copies) so that the first person to break the tablet could still share the experience with Wizards of the Coast’s other employees – hopefully one of them being the person he needed to impress.

Mrdeepimpression packed the tablets along with a hammer and a chisel, and addressed it to Wizards of the Coast’s CEO Greg Leeds. Sadly, he didn’t get a job at the company, but mrdeepimpression did eventually land somewhere else. He said the tablets did help him get this other job, but not in the way he expected. Based on the illustration on his tablet, I bet he got the other job because he’s actually a dragon. If he had just said that straight up he would’ve gotten the D&D job, or any job for that matter.

Between a rock and a soft place

Poor Fred Flintstone… Worked all day and came back home to ruthlessly uncomfortable stone furniture! I’m sure he would have loved one of these stone-mimicking foam stools. Designer Matthijs Kok did a spot-on job of molding soft PU Foam to look like a chunk of rock. Don’t let your eyes fool you, the stool is as soft as a baby’s backside. And with its three chrome legs, it looks like something the Flintstones would receive from the Jetsons!

Plug & Feather: Stone Face Watches at a Reasonable Price

Making watches out of unusual materials is quickly becoming a trend. The wood face watch is very much a thing, and I’ve seen a number of all wood watches. I like a number of the ones with wood faces, and I’ve even liked one or two of the all-wood designs, despite the general clunkiness of most of them. This is something new, however. This is a watch with a stone face from a new company named “Plug & Feather.” At first, the name sounds baffling and nonsensical, but a quick Google search reveals that it’s a classic stone masonry technique.

The new watch, which can be had for a very reasonable $99 or $129 with two straps, features a brand new stoneworking technique in which a disk of stone is bonded to a disk of metal to increase impact resistance from all angles.

There are five faces available: sodalite, cloud jasper, charoite, snowflake obsidian, and carnelian. On the inside, the watch uses a Miyota 203A quartz movement and built in to a 44mm 316L steel case. Me likey.

Game Of Thrones Slate Coasters: Game of Stone

Class up your home and protect your furniture with these Game of Thrones slate coasters, embellished with the sigils of the powerful houses of Westeros. Be ready. Spilled drinks are coming.

got coasters 620x465magnify

Each coaster is laser engraved with a different house symbol and you get four designs (Lannister, Stark, Tyrell and Targaryen). Laser engraving is pretty impressive considering they didn’t have lasers in Westeros. Besides, you wouldn’t want them sword engraved because you would be left with a bunch of rubble. The men of Westeros don’t really know how to engrave without hacking and slashing things to bits.

These coasters measure 10cm in diameter and will class up your castle. They’re just about $17(USD) per set from Etsy seller The Geek Stop.
