Back to the Future Lunch Box: Back to the Cafeteria

Growing up, the thing I looked hardest for each year when it was time to go back to school wasn’t shoes or shirts, it was a new lunch box. The competition for coolest box at lunch was intense, and if yours sucked, kids made fun of you. Along the way, I rocked an ET box and had a Dukes of Hazzard lunch box too.

I always preferred the metal sort with the embossed designs to stickers on plastic boxes. This Back to the Future lunch box reminds me of the early ’80s lunch room, even though the films had yet to be released.

One side of this metal lunch box features the DeLorean complete with flaming skid marks as it reaches 88 MPH, while the sides have the iconic OUTATIME license plate. The back is a bit of a reach, with Space Zombies from Pluto artwork based on a prop used in the film that I don’t even remember. Regardless, it’s still a really cool way to carry your lunch to work or school. You can get yours now over at Entertainment Earth for $14.99(USD).

Nike HyperAdapt 1.0 Self-lacing Sneakers: HELLLOOO McFly!

The DeLorean time machine was certainly the thing I wanted most from the Back to the Future movies. I would have also settled for that hoverboard McFly rode around on. I’m not really into footwear, but the thought of shoes that tied themselves and had lights on them was very appealing when I was a kid.

Nike has a modernized version of McFly’s shoes coming out this year. Unlike the silly looking “futuristic” shoes from Back to the Future II, these fit right in with Nike’s contemporary style. The Nike HyperAdapt 1.0 shoes have motors, lights, and batteries inside. When you put your foot in, motors tighten the laces, and fine-tuning can be made with buttons near the tongue of the shoe. The motor will run for about 2 weeks on a 3 hour charge.

You can see them in action in this video from WIRED:

They’ll go on sale this November 28th, but to buy the shoes you won’t just walk into the store and find your size. You’ll have to make an appointment for a fitting. The big catch right now is that we have no idea how much they will cost or how you go about making an appointment.

Gorgeous Low Poly Scenes From Star Wars, Game of Thrones & More

Death Star Trench

Things look beautiful in good Low Poly graphics, and famous scenes from Star Wars, Back to the Future and Game of Thrones are quite exquisite to relive through these awesome looking graphics.

Star Wars (Death Star Chase)

For those who haven’t seen Episode IV: A New Hope, the chase does end at some point.

The graphics were made by Brazilian artist Bruno Alberto, who is publishing them from time to time on his Facebook page, Low Poly Scenes.

Game of Thrones (Hold the Door)

Makes me cry every time.

Back to the Future (Hitting 88mph)

Marty looks five years old in Low Poly.

Indiana Jones (Running away from that huge ball)

Free Willy (The only scene anyone remembers from the movie)

The thing about Free Willy is that this movie isn’t as good as you might remember it, for those who were kids when it came out. Actually, the graphics in this Gif are probably better than the visual effects in the original film.

For more cool stuff on Walyou, check out these awesome movie posters for the film geek in you, or enjoy this wonderful Star Wars pixel art.

Knight Rider Back to Future DeLorean: Back to the Hasselhoff

Two of our favorite cars just got mashed up head on at 88 MPH, with Michael Knight behind the wheel of one and Doc Brown behind the wheel of the other. Yes, one ambitious fan has taken a classic DeLorean and transformed it into a mashup of the time machine from Back to the Future and Michael Knight’s classic car K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider.

The result is a sassy time traveling DeLorean with an attitude. This isn’t new. It’s from 2013, but it is just too cool so I had to share it. Sadly, it doesn’t really talk like K.I.T.T., but it is a great replica of what these two cars would look like together.

This is probably how they should have brought back Knight Rider.

The Neon City shoes are crazy nice. Nicholas’ standard shoes typically go for $700 to $1,500 (USD), it’s safe to assume that these limited edition pairs will go for even higher prices. If you’re buying, be sure to place your order before 12/1/15.

Life-size LEGO Back to the Future 2 Hoverboard Concept Might Literally Be Heavy

We might never get a real version of Back to the Future II‘s hoverboard, but with your help we can have a LEGO version of it. LEGO Ideas member Masman8675 already has the design and the proposal. All he needs is our vote.

The 1:1 scale LEGO hoverboard would be made of 3,663 pieces and measure 28″ long, 8″ wide and 1″ thick. Masman8675 also threw in kick ass Doc Brown and Marty minifigs with accessories, which includes a minifig-scale hoverboard.

DeLorean Time Machine Cake: Hover Converted Dessert

London-based Tattooed Bakers have wowed us before with their Maleficent and zombie horse cakes, but they went all out for Back to the Future day. The dessert masters made a DeLorean time machine cake that looks more like a toy than something edible.

back_to_the_future_delorean_time_machine_cake_by_tattooed_bakers_1zoom in

Tattooed Bakers made the cake for software maker Bullhorn. It had lights everywhere, smoke coming out of its exhausts and as you can see it was in hover mode with its gull-wing doors fully open. It wasn’t a life-size model but was still huge.

Back to the Future Cafes Hit Japan

We celebrate Back to the Future Day today, October 21, 2015, which was the date on the dash of the DeLorean time machine when Marty and Doc arrived in the future. I still don’t have my Hoverboard, and thankfully, cars don’t look as ridiculous as they did in the movie.

btf-cafezoom in

If you live in Japan, five pop-up cafes have opened to celebrate the day. Each of the locations has Back to the Future memorabilia inside, theme music from the movie playing constantly, and food based on the film.

The locations are in Trattoria Paradiso in Tokyo as well as Sweets Paradise restaurants in Chiba, Osaka, Hyogo, and Okayama. I remember thinking I would be really old when 2015 rolled around when I saw the movie back in the ’80s. I also thought I would have a flying car by now.
