This transforming automotive design takes 3 forms – e-bicycle + e-scooter + e-kickboard, giving mobility to the entire family!

Simplicity is the name of the game these days as the idea of minimalism is getting popular by the day. So why not have two-wheels that can deliver that promise of a minimalistic approach for the urban commute? A simple frame design that can be easily converted into a utility e-bicycle, e-scooter, or even better, an e-kickboard. South Korea based mobility designer Jung Soo Lee has mustered up the niche idea of a two-wheeled commuter for the whole family inspired by the simple line, and that’s the reason she likes to call it the One Line.

The idea is darn simple – a line is the mainframe of the commute, and depending on who’s going to use it, One Line can adapt to that form. It can be a classic Korean bicycle with a basket (having integrated light) to keep the groceries you just bought from the supermarket or fresh flowers for your lover. Then in another avatar, it can take the shape of an electric scooter for faster commuting from one place to the other. One scenario for usage is the e-kickboard, wherein the line frame design now functions as the platform for standing. For the first two iterations, the battery is placed under the seat with LED indicators displaying the remaining battery levels.

Unfortunately, Jung Soo only gives a glimpse into the design of the e-bicycle configuration and I personally would have loved to see it morph into an e-kickstand or an e-scooter. Even for the e-bicycle design, there are few things that are unclear. There’s isn’t any visible braking handle or brake mechanism, or it can be assumed, Jung envisions this one to have a braking mechanism similar to that of old school bikes – you just push back the pedals to achieve the resistance to stop. The chain stay isn’t visible either and it has to be said that the chain or the belt drive is neatly disguised in the design which in itself is a design victory of sorts.

That said, the concept looks absolutely gorgeous and practically feasible to create. Only if we could have more insight into its functioning or the other two configurations that are left for our imagination – this would have been a perfect project to put more light on!

This 2040 Polestar e-bike comes with a LiDAR equipped drone that doubles as collision avoidance system

Electric bikes come in all shapes and sizes, boasting impressive mileage and whatnot. But rarely does an e-bike come embedded with the actual emotion of riding. The pure joy of taking your machine, that’s aesthetically crafted for perfection, out on the countryside for a serene ride. And yes, it does have a LiDAR equipped drone that can take flight on your command for stunning 16K videos, the capability to zoom 36 times, and a range of 3 km. In the center of the front section (where traditionally headlights would be) is Odin’s Eye, the LiDAR system of the double duty drone, which acts as a smart sensory system to aid the driver in treacherous conditions as it comes with a crash avoidance system and other useful assists.

Dubbed the Polestar C60 Concept Motorcycle, this electric bike concept by Vinay Raj Somashekar has the graphene battery at its core, one of the most versatile and clean energy storage medium. The bike will charge in no time, virtually in a couple of minutes and mileage would be way ahead of what we are used to seeing in the current era. The side of the bike is dominated by the hexagonal shape, known to be one of the most robust shapes, lending the ride a mechanically strong core while being visually attractive. The same hexagonal shape can be seen at the front where the drone magnetically clasps on to the bike when not taking flight. For a smoother journey, there is the dynamic electromagnetic suspension system that works in tandem with Odin’s Eye for “automatic real-time progressive preload adjustment based on road and weather conditions.”

The designer envisions this e-bike for the year 2040 where autonomous technologies are so advanced that they’ll ensure you are safe at all times – but then you got to break the shackles every now and then. There’s a ‘Zen Mode’ to let go of all the driving assists and safety features for pure joy or riding, and when you want to focus on improving your driving, it’s time to switch to the ‘Track Mode’ which comes with brake and acceleration assists to guide you to take the apexes perfectly.

This Foldable trailer for your e-bike instantly converts into a one-person overnight camping adventure!

2020 has in all aspects been different from any other year in recent memory; bringing many leisure and entertainment activities to a halt. But e-biking and solo, regional camping has seen a surprising rise this year. This made CreaCon begin to think about combining the two interests for a better tomorrow. Case in point the Scout camper trailer which tags to the back of your bike and can be an instant shelter at the beach, a personal nook for reading or working in the park, or even a temporary overnight shelter in the outdoors.

The idea of a bike camper is not overly new, there have been some we have come by, but they have either failed to impress with the edgy assembly or their dimensions. The Scout camper presents a very sizable alternative that transforms into a shelter with comfortable sleeping space for a rider. The camper trailer comes in varying sizes, you can pick according to your requirement – but it does require a Tough Trailer, also made by CreaCon, to carry this actual living module around to the campsite. The camper trailer design opens up various possibilities of use. The start being carried behind the bicycle for camping, the trailer can be used for transporting groceries, tools, or whatever else given the user’s needs. The trailer clips to the bike using lockable Weber coupling; it can carry 85 kg of payload standalone, and features hydraulic overrun brakes to negate the weight and thrust added by the load.

The Scout camper features lightweight composite sandwich-panel construction and starts with the Compact model, which is the smallest livable module measuring 65cm wide and 1.44m long when folded. The Scout Compact unfolds to 60x190cm giving a rider just enough space to lie down. The Scout Center is slightly larger with a sleeping space of 90x190cm, other dimensions are nearly similar with a width measuring 95cm when folded. The Comfort is the most spacious variant but is planned for launch in the future. The trailer will measure 95cm wide and 1.64m long and should be able to transform into a two-man shelter with a 120x200cm playing field. Interestingly, the campers also offer a small covered tent with standing height. Attached to the main Scout body with a canvas supported by telescoping poles. This area either serves as an entryway awning or transforms into a tent with optional waterproof canvas draped around the sides.

The production-ready Scout Center comes with ample storage space for food, cooking gear under the bed. There is also space between the bed and the closed top for folding furniture, camping mattress, and sleeping bag, along with small storage that is accessible from the outside, useful for water, rain gear, and snacks. Accessories including solar panel kits and storage crates for Scout and Tough are sold separately by CreaCon. So, if you want a low trailer behind your e-bike that can be unfolded in just a few simple steps to become a full-fledged camp, Scout is cut out for you.

Saroléa’s stunning electric café racer comes with a carbon fiber helmet and tailored suit for the rider!

I guess you could call the Saroléa’s N60 electric bike the “complete package”! The Belgian motorcycle company has figured out the best way to make the motorcycle the ultimate style icon – design a dapper suit and a slick carbon-fiber helmet to make the rider and the ride complement each other perfectly! Saroléa partnered with Café Costume and Hedon to create the tailored biker suit with integrated protective elements, and Hedon to create the immaculate carbon-fiber helmet. The suit comes uniquely tailored to your measurements, along with the helmet, which is size-matched to your head. Moreover, a partnership with Studio Blade even means the bike comes with its own EDC, a commemorative full-tang Damascus Steel knife.

The collaborative effort is centered around the N60, Saroléa’s latest cafe-style e-bike built on the same platform as their previous stunner, the Manx7 electric superbike, with an air-cooled brushless DC motor capable of 163 horsepower and a battery delivering an impressive range of 330 kilometers (or 205 miles) on a full charge. Specifications aside, the N60 comes housed in a carbon fiber monocoque boasting of a design that feels like the spiritual successor to the Manx7. While the Manx7 sported a more streamlined design, the N60 uses more robust forms and celebrates straight lines. The bike sports a black paint job, with the judicious use of orange accents to create drama and contrast, and a black-on-black pattern on the side which pairs stunningly well with the carbon-fiber weave pattern on the bike helmet. All in all, the N60 isn’t just another e-bike… it’s an experience. The fact that it comes with its rider-specific accouterments really helps build the bond between man and machine, and practically ensures that when you’re tearing down the tarmac, all eyes will certainly be on you!

The Tesla Model B is an electric bicycle concept that’s futuristic on the inside and out

If I had to condense Tesla‘s ethos into a single phrase, it would arguably be to bring advanced technologies to the world of automotives to make transportation efficient, safe, and convenient. Whether it’s the electric powertrains, the efficient batteries, the advanced hardware/software, or the fact that Tesla is spearheading the self-driving movement, it’s safe to say that the company has gone above and beyond to change the face of how we get from A to B. In that very vein, the Tesla Model B concept by Kendall Toerner brings Tesla’s advanced approach to the category of bicycles.

The Model B forms a bridge between conventional bicycles and road-vehicles, with a design that, like cars, is designed to be safer, more efficient, and less energy-intensive. The Model B’s sleek frame comes with forward, side-facing, and rear proximity and LiDAR sensors that scan the surroundings to create a protective bubble around the rider, alerting them of any obstacle. Each wheel comes with its own dedicated motor, forming the Model B’s dual-drive system. Spokes on the wheels are replaced by shock-absorbers, helping keep your ride smooth.

The frame of the e-bike also integrates foldout footrests and handlebars. The handlebars don’t independently rotate, but rather detect force, allowing you to turn by simply applying more force on a particular side. The front-wheel turns independently, based on handle force input. The Model B also comes with its own autopilot feature that lets the bike’s own AI take over, using the multiple sensors on its frame as its eyes to maneuver the bicycle safely. A slick dashboard sits flush within the bike’s frame, allowing you to see bike stats as well as set navigation for your own reference, or for the Tesla autopilot. The Model B sports a stormtrooper color combo of white with black accents, although I’d love to see one with a nice hot red paint job!

Analog Motion’s AMX is a commuter e-bike that wants to go fast

I’m always on the hunt for cheap but high-quality e-bikes. Not everyone can afford to spend thousands of dollars, after all, on something by Gazelle or Riese & Müller. That’s why Analog Motion, a tiny company based in the UK, caught my eye back i...

This zero-emission dirt bike’s design will give you an adrenaline rush!

The electric bike segment is evolving from the basic designs to something that brings more value and has aesthetically pleasing attributes. SUPER73 clearly redefined the preconceived notions of what an electric bike should be, attracting the attention of the Americans who value lifestyle adventure. No doubt Roland Sands Design saw this as an opportunity to join hands with the e-bike maker in 2019 to create a custom version – RSD SUPER73 Racer e-hooligan that garnered praise from the industry experts and was later put up for a show at the legendary Petersen Automotive Museum in April 2019.

At the beginning of this year, SUPER 73 debuted the lightweight RX e-bike in New York that boasted of the brand’s most powerful electric motor ever, improved braking system, and adjustable front and rear suspensions. It also came with smartphone compatibility with over-the-air updates. Roland Sands again had their eyes lit up seeing the potential of the e-bike – perhaps envisioning the countless ways they could enhance it. Hence came to life the second project between the two brands. Under closed doors the two teams have been working on a custom version of the e-bike, they call Roland Sands Design x SUPER73-RX Collaboration bike.

The racing influence is much evident on the e-bike, custom paint job, and graphics, thanks to the minds at Roland Sands. On the performance front, the bike has been tweaked for performance and handling – getting a relocated battery positioning for a lower center of gravity and a moto-styled seat developed with RSD and Saddlemen. For better braking, the custom tuner fitted the bike with configurable Magura brake sets and full-twist throttle by Magura again, for refined controlling. Now that the SUPER73-RX morphed into an improved version of itself, it was justified to embellish it with SUPER73 GRZLY all-terrain tires!

Harley-Davidson unveils a stunning e-bike that pays homage to their iconic 1903 design!

Harley-Davidson’s journey started more than a century ago putting power to two wheels – surviving the great depression, and evolving new ways to hit the roads in style. The motorcycle brand is synonymous with two-wheeled motoring in virtually every corner of the planet and the test of time has eventually urged the brand to branch out into a new e-bike division aptly named the Serial 1 Cycle. Going back to the roots when the first-ever motorcycle, the Serial Number One, was crafted in 1903 – Harley-Davidson has again risen like a phoenix to resurrect the way the world moves!

Inspired by the pioneering spirit of Harley’s heritage, the spin-off brand sprung out of the company’s skunkworks Product Development Center has crafted Serial 1 Cycle. This at a time when the demand for e-bikes is rising exponentially in the US and other parts of the globe. Obviously, Harley will have to go head-butting with trusted e-bike names like Giant, and Trek; while also make their way past the expanding brands like Rad, Pedego or X-Treme Electric Bikes. Add to this the iconic automotive brands, the likes of BMW, Audi and Mercedes who are also looking to dominate the e-bike segment.

According to Harley Davidson, Serial 1 initiated with “a small group of passionate motorcycle and bicycle enthusiasts working with a single focus to design and develop an eBicycle worthy of the Harley-Davidson name.” Now that things have kicked-off, the first electric bicycle is going to be launched in March 2021 which is not necessarily going to look exactly like this iteration, as this one is a styling exercise, but the production version will retain most of the design cues.

The company hasn’t either given any details about the specifications of the electric bicycle but from the look of it, there is a mid-drive motor and belt-driven system that is reminiscent of the Gates Drive setup that Harley uses on belt-driven electric motorcycles like the LiveWire. There are still many unanswered questions left to ponder over – what battery capacity will the production model carry, the power generated from these batteries and ultimately the cost? For now, we can bask in the nostalgia of Harley’s grandeur with this design that leaves a lot to be desired when it will finally hit the showrooms!
