The Power to Charge it All

nomad_wireless_charging_hub_03

If you’re one of those lucky individuals who owns more than one high tech device that you carry around all day – iPhone, GoPro, Airpods, iPad and many more – then Nomad have heard your prayers and answered them gracefully. Conveniently charge five devices at once with the Nomad Wireless Charging Hub. The Nomad Wireless Charging Hub has a wireless top that charges your phone as well as four extra ports underneath.

Looking somewhat like a router, this wireless charger is the most efficient of its kind. I never thought I would see a wireless charger and think it looks perfect with more wires coming out of it, but here I am. Thankfully, due to the LED network on the top of the device, one can check if their device is charging and/or fully charger (the LEDs are orange when charging and white once it is fully charged). But of course, these lights can be a pain during the night, so Nomad has taken that on board and in-built an ambient light sensor that dims the lights in a dark room – how considerate.

A case worthy for the iPhone X

nomad_iphonex_case_1

It’s a challenge, cladding something as beautiful as the iPhone X with a case. Not many people would, because there’s a beauty to the Apple flagship that a case will only destroy, but I highly recommend that you do (if you’re one of the millions waiting in queue for your handset), because let’s remember the phone is made primarily of glass, which if a phone is dropped on its corners, will shatter without warning, and of Aluminum which scratches easier than Apple would like you to believe. If you want your $1000 phone to continue staying beautiful, a case is the only way to go, and what’s better than a clear case?

Nomad’s Clear Folio case for the iPhone X is every bit as premium and amazing as the smartphone itself. The case itself is clear, showing off your iPhone in pretty much all its glory, while protecting it from accidental, painful breaks. It also comes with a folio flap made of the finest leather from Horween Leather Co., one of America’s oldest leather tanneries still operational to date. The vegetable tanned leather flap comes with slots that can hold up to 6 cards and cash, making your iPhone X even more priceless than it already is! Plus, the case is as limited edition (if not infinitely more) than the iPhone X. Only 20 cases remain in stock, so you better grab yours soon!

Music Making for the Modern Nomad

NOMAD is a digital musical instrument born from the desire to create music on the go. Its compact and minimalistic form enables users to take it anywhere they go. The pressure sensitive frets and flexible strings offer a traditional playing experience, however, they will never break or get out of tune.

So how does it work? By marrying digital and analogue! The design combines the familiarity of a classic guitar with the flexibility of a digital musical instrument. Paired with an app, NOMAD can play an endless variety of sounds and the frets can be turned off so a digital capo controls the pitch of the strings.

It’s ideal for anyone who needs to scratch that creative itch on a whim and can be taken anywhere from the subway to the campground. Small enough to throw in a bag or backpack, it’s high quality music-making for wherever life takes you!

USB-powered Sega Nomad gives you near-endless game time

Sega's Genesis Nomad was always something of a compromise (it was running 16-bit console games on mid-1990s handheld tech), but the battery life was a particularly sore point: it took six AA batteries just to get 3 hours of play time. Wouldn't it be...

Oculus for the Visually Impaired!

nomad_sensor_1

In a world that’s so involved in AR and VR, the Nomad Wearable’s purpose is much more noble. The Nomad is a wearable that uses LiDAR, or light based radar to guide the visually impaired to locations. The wearable’s usage of LiDAR comes from years of advancement in this technology by the autonomous car projects. It also relies on Blindscape (a map app designed for the visually impaired) to provide audio to the wearer, guiding them specifically through neighborhoods, traffic, and even enabling them to use public transport! If that isn’t the greatest wearable you’ve seen in a while, I don’t know what is!

Confessions of a Coffee Addict

Like most of you, I’m a coffee addict and love to carry my java with me. The problem with most cuppa joe’s is that they don’t provide for instant gratification, aka brewing on the go. The Nomad Coffee Maker rectifies the situation by being this portable maker that taken in the coffee filter on one end and dispenses the brew into the other (or any cup/container). Practical in its approach, the design also includes a USB connection to power the maker via your laptop or wall socket. Very Clever!

DirecTV GenieGo takes the fight to Sling, brings TV streaming anywhere on PC and iOS

DirecTV GenieGo adds live streaming anywhere on PC and iOS, takes on Sling directly

DirecTV recently switched the name of its Nomad transcoding device to GenieGo to match its new DVRs, a change we first noticed on its Android app. On Windows PC and iOS the apps are about to get a new update that changes the name and lets users stream video from their DVRs over WiFi even when they're away from home (Mac and Android support is due later in the year.) Previously, it allowed users to stream live and recorded TV, or download recorded TV to a mobile device for viewing offline, but Slingbox-style streaming of live or recorded TV anywhere is new, and brings it closer to the device we thought it could be when it launched. Solid Signal and DBSTalk report the incoming update (not live yet, but it should pop up tomorrow) is easy to use, letting users stream recordings, start a recording so it can stream or remotely setting up the transcoder to make a mobile copy users can download once they get home. Satellite TV competitor Dish has brought deeper integration of Sling into its new Hopper DVRs, and now DirecTV has its own in-house solution, anyone thinking of switching sides?

DirecTV GenieGO DVR streaming app arrives on Android

DirecTV GenieGO arrives for Android viewers

DirecTV subscribers with a penchant for travel have long had access to the Nomad (now GenieGO), a box that packages their DVR recordings for viewing on PCs and iOS devices. They haven't had an Android app, however, until now. Like its iOS peer, the new GenieGO client (which is new, despite the version number) can either directly stream recorded shows or download them for offline catch-up sessions. Don't expect just any old Android hardware to work, though -- DirecTV can only vouch for compatibility with a small roster of devices that focuses mostly on Motorola, the Nexus line and Samsung. Nonetheless, any customer who has both a GenieGO and a Google inclination can give the app a shot at the source links.

[Thanks, Alex]

O’Sun Nomad Solar Lamp: A Jug Full of Light

This new lamp was created by the Belgian designer Alain Gilles for O’Sun, and it was specifically made to address the needs of families living in parts of the world that don’t have access to electricity. In many parts of the world, kerosene lamps are used widely, but they often cause deadly accidents. The Nomad lamp is a portable rechargeable device, that’s easy to operate and use, and is completely safe.

Using the included solar panel, once fully charged up, the Nomad lamp will provide 6 hours of light at full intensity. The lamp only has one button and can be placed almost anywhere since it’s designed to be resistant to shocks and falls. The luminous globe is protected by a silicone disk, further enhancing its usefulness.

The lamp can also be hung almost anywhere and can also serve as a good camping light. There are 12 LEDs inside of it, which should provide plenty of illumination. In addition to solar power, it can also be juiced up conventionally, or from a car’s cigarette lighter. There’s also an attachment to charge up mobile phones.
