These Unique Spinning Tops Would be Our Inception Tokens

If I learned anything from Leonardo DiCaprio, it’s that we all need a totem, lest we might actually be stuck in a dream within a dream. If I had to choose one, I think I’d go with a top too, but something a bit cooler than the one he had in Inception. These spinning toys from Kyouei Design should work quite nicely.

What’s really cool about designer Kouichi Okamoto’s “Shape of Revolve” tops isn’t just what they look like while they’re spinning, but what they look like when they’re stopped. They’re like miniature modern art sculptures. I can’t decide which of the three designs I like best, but I’m thinking it’s the circle in the square.

Each one is made from black-plated stainless steel, and measures a little more than 3″ across. They’re sold only in a set of three, which will set you back ¥12,800 (~$115 USD), plus the cost of shipping from Japan.

Antzy Top Review: The Coolest Fidget Spinner

Fidget spinners get a lot of hate. I think it’s in part because the name implies that the people who play with these things can’t control themselves, which isn’t the case. I can sit still as long as I want, but it’s kind of fun to have something in your hands you can fiddle with. I bought my daughter a cheap plastic fidget spinner at the local Walmart because it had the American flag printed on it and she is all about ‘merica.

She loved that thing and carried it all around with her for weeks spinning it as she walked the dog or watched TV. She can keep still too, but it’s fun to play with. The problem with that cheap fidget spinner is that it would spin maybe a handful of times before you had to flick it again.

The folks behind the Antzy Top sent me over what seems to me to be the highest quality fidget spinner on the market. This thing isn’t made out of cheap plastic, it’s machined out of pure stainless steel. It also has super high quality bearings inside allowing it to spin for up to five minutes with a single flick and no noise at all.

That means you can spin this thing in a crowded room and no one hears a thing. If you want a bit more bling in your spinning, it also comes with some cool cylindrical LED lights that you can place in the holes on each of its three arms.

When you twist those LEDs they start to blink multiple colors and you can spin with bright lights in the dark. Those lights are seriously bright, like don’t look straight into the light bright .The Antzy Top is incredibly well made and fun to play with. The bearings inside the spinner are steel R188 bearings and the LEDs are powered by lithium cell CR927 3V batteries that you can purchase almost anywhere. The batteries promise to last for 4-5 weeks of continuous and heavy use. The average Antzy Top user will see the batteries last much longer than that.

The Antzy Top comes packed in a tin can with a pull off lid, and has a foam holder inside shaped just like the top, perfect for keeping the Antzy Top secure when you aren’t playing with it.

The Antzy Top started first on Indiegogo and raised over 300% of its funding goal. Now, you can buy the awesome little gadget for $55 at the Antzy Top website. If you are tired of noisy or poorly spinning fidget spinners, that price is worth it. If your kid is into fidget spinners, they will be the envy of all their friends with the fast and long-spinning Antzy Top.

This Portable Grill is Beautiful

Most grills are just boxy or round things that you throw charcoal in or attach some propane to. Nothing fancy. They just do their job. They never really look beautiful. The Grillo from FormAxiom is the exception. This grill is lovely. It’s a portable grill that uses a chainmaille “fire hammock” to hold burning coal or wood.

It is an elegant grill for a more civilized age. It uses a flexible stainless-steel ring-mesh construction which is safe for any kind of solid fuel. This breathable texture allows the fire to be ignited from underneath and can achieve a strong heat in a short amount of time, while the surrounding tripod structure stays cool to touch. Those are great features along with it’s looks.

It is also easier to carry and store compared to other grills. Easier to clean too. Just hold the folded structure together, dip the cooking surface in water and scrub with a common cleaning brush. That’s it.

Sadly, it looks like you can’t buy one. The website is from 2014. They talk about seeing their prototypes at some exhibition in Italy. But aside from that, this beauty apparently can not be purchased. Too bad. It is so lovely, so I had to share it.

Eva Solo Grating Bucket Collects Shredded Food Inside

You can buy all kinds of graters, but most of them require you to grate your cheese directly over your meal like some barbarian. The Eva Solo Grating Bucket is a more elegant solution. It collects the shreds inside as you grate, allowing you to dispense them appropriately later.

Cheese, carrots, whatever. The shreds are collected within for easily sprinkling on top of your favorite dishes. Like any grater, this one will shred a variety of foodstuffs, like cheese, chocolate, carrots and even cold butter. No more aiming at your dish from above and making a mess as it all falls down. This is an elegant grater for a more civilized age.

The design could not be simpler. The Eva Solo Grating Bucket is, basically just a stainless steel cup with grating blades on its sides. It measures 8.3 inches tall so it holds enough to be truly useful. It’s available from Amazon for $49.50(USD).

Radiant Rods!

kit_lamp_1

The Kit Lamp gets its name from the nature of its design. It can be assembled and disassembled easily, without any glue or external fixing agent. The Lamp comes in a kit, hence the name.

The lamp has a clean, geometric, almost meditative style. A stainless steel elbow joint steals the glory, in my opinion. Made using 3D printing technology, the fixture even in its wire-frame structure manages to grab one’s eye. You can see the wire running through it from one rod to another, just adding transparency and magic to the design of the lamp. Minimalism is good… but with a touch of flair in the correct place, a design can become even more aesthetic, and truly memorable!

Star Wars Stainless Steel Rings: Jedi Jewelry

After watching the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer several hundred times, now you are in the mood for more merchandise. While you can’t buy a rolling droid or a three-pronged lightsaber (yet), you can get yourself a cool ring or two.

These stainless steel rings will look great on you. You can choose from A Long Time Ago, Rebel Alliance vs. Galactic Empire, or Star Wars designs. They come in size 8, 10, or 12. Two are spinner rings. They don’t go as fast as the new Sonic the Hedgehog inspired droid, but hey, that’s a great idea. When are we getting a spinner ring of that rolling droid? Get on that Disney.
