This beautiful MagSafe collection offers a sustainable way to top up your devices

Some might consider Apple’s new MagSafe tech for iPhones and Apple Watches as simply catching up to the already existing wireless charging technology, but it clearly does a lot more than what its industry rivals have accomplished so far. The smart addition of magnets is no small matter, as it enabled many different forms of wireless chargers that no longer required devices to lie horizontally flat on a desk or charging bed. That kind of freedom and flexibility gave way to rather interesting designs, some minimal, some multi-functional. It also gave manufacturers a bit more leeway when it came to materials, which this new collection of MagSafe chargers takes advantage of in order to bring accessories that are not only handsome but also less harmful to the environment.

Designer: Magdalena Gembala (Oakywood)

Apple’s first-party MagSafe chargers are already extremely minimal, comprising only a small puck that magnetically latches on to an iPhone or Apple Watch. While that did offer more flexibility in how to use it, the designs were not entirely elegant. Fortunately, it’s also possible to actually use those official chargers in ways Apple doesn’t, like putting them inside bases and holders that add a little more functionality and style to the charger.

This Oakywood MagSafe collection does exactly that, utilizing the Apple MagSafe chargers to provide the actual charging function of these beautifully designed products. What they offer, instead, are solid and multi-functional bases that not only keep your iPhone or Apple Watch in place but also add some life to your desk. With a mix of wood and matte aluminum materials, these stands and mounts look handsome on any motif you might have going for your desk, providing eye-catching ornaments without being distracting.

These MagSafe accessories are not as trivial as they might seem. One actually mounts onto an edge of a shelf, preferably one on or near your desk, while another sticks to a wall. In all cases, the MagSafe charger they hold can be removed and used as normal, just in case you prefer not to see the device’s screen but still want the beautiful presence of these wood and metal ornaments.

This Oakywood collection isn’t sustainable just because of the materials used, though that definitely plays an important role. None of these accessories actually come with an Apple MagSafe charger, so you can and will have to use what you already have anyway. Not only does this mean that the stands and mounts themselves don’t have any non-sustainable components, it also helps prevent more e-waste in the long run. It’s definitely a win-win situation when you get not only a multi-functional MagSafe charging stand but also beautiful accessories that, at the very least, don’t contribute to the death of the planet by their mere existence.

This odd wireless charger concept is actually a portable projector in disguise

Humans have never been busier or more distracted than ever. While technology affords us many conveniences, it also generates some negative effects on our psyches. One of the favorite examples of this phenomenon is smartphones, whose power sometimes comes at the cost of burdening our minds with incessant notifications and the lure of instant gratification. Sometimes, these devices even completely erase the already blurry line between work and personal time. Sometimes we just need to kick back and relax without our smartphones, but that’s almost impossible if we consume our entertainment from those small screens. It’s in that vein that this attractive yet eccentric device tries to make that happen and does so in an effective yet admittedly unconventional way.

Designers: Gabin Park, janchi

Many people these days use their phones for entertainment, whether it’s for music, gaming, or even videos. In fact, most entertainment services these days have a mobile-first policy in attempts to target a much wider market than TV or PC owners. That said, even those who binge on Netflix will probably want to see those videos on a larger screen at home, but only if it were convenient and painless. That leaves out having to buy a smart TV just to access those streaming services or using the rather complicated process of “casting” your content from phone to TV.

The SILO design concept tries to offer a solution by using a laser beam projector for that purpose. Granted, there are plenty of portable home projectors these days that can wireless connect to smartphones. What this concept does differently is that it actually takes the phone out of your hand as well. A slot for a smartphone functions as a wireless charger, leaving you really free to give not just your mind but also your body a break.

Think about it. Streaming videos from your phone to a projector will eat up your battery quickly, and most people will plug their phone into a charger anyway. With SILO, the same device is both the projector and the charger, simplifying the process. At the same time, it forces people to actually detach from their phones, which is the point of enjoying videos away from the phone’s small screen in the first place.

SILO is both a place for storing and charging a phone as well as a way to isolate it from your life. It also looks quite attractive to boot, with a simple shape that doesn’t call too much attention to itself. There are, of course, some technical details that need to be ironed out, such as thermal management for two types of devices that are known to generate a lot of heat, but it’s an interesting concept nonetheless and one we wish would become a real product someday.

Since an organized desk is a dream for every systematized worker, this Zens charger can go a long way in ensuring that. The idea of having all the prized Apple devices charging in one go, in one location, is not short of peace of mind. Additionally, it leaves the desk or the nightstand organized. What more do you want? Before you go ahead and reply to that with a “Nothing”; the Zens 4-in-1 Modular Wireless Charger, with its fancy antics, comes for a $180 price tag (more on the alternative pricing options later). Now think!

Despite the exorbitant price tag, there is no denying that this modular charger is a convenient solution for a quick and fast charge to all your Apple devices. The main station of the Zens charger can power your iPhone, iPad, and AirPods, and you get a magnetic attachment for fastening the Apple Watch charger to the main system. This magnetic Apple Watch extension is actually what makes the wireless MagSafe charger “modular.”

The main body comprises a MagSafe stand for charging iPhones at 15W fast charging speed, a Qi wireless charging pad for compatible AirPods, and a wired USB-C charging port for charging the iPad or MacBook. An Apple Watch charger (provided in the box) can magnetically attach to fast-charge Series 7 and upwards.

The body of the Zens 4-in-1 Modular Wireless Charger is made of recycled plastic. The sustainable accessory for the power requirement of your Apple devices is available through Zens for $180. If you exclude the modular Apple Watch charging extension, the price drops to $150 for a 3-in-1 charger. But, if you want a 3-in-1 charger, you can get one for much cheaper.

8BitDO morphs NES Gamepad into a wireless charger – because why not!

The classic gamepad with the Nintendo Entertainment System was hard to live with due to its boxy corners, but gamers loved it to the core because of the gaming goodness in the era. The nostalgia factor of the gamepad still lives on, and reason enough for 8BitDO to morph into a utility wireless charger.

8BitDO is already known for its impressive third-party accessories, especially controllers like the Pro 2, Zero 2 and OG NES gamepad. Now, with the NES gamepad-like wireless charger, they promise to bring home a gadget that’ll evoke sweet old memories while juicing up your device. To top it off, the price tag of $20 is the icing on the cake for all you NES lovers.

Designer: 8BitDO

Since your smartphone will sit flush on the surface of the wireless charger, the physical buttons give way to convincing graphics, and the D-pad is also gone here. Gamers will instantly recognize the infamous Konami code from the 80s replacing the control buttons for a fuller look. Yes, I’m talking about the “up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A” code list. In place are the classic black and gray color schemes, along with the red buttons to brush up the iconic look without hindering the wireless coil underneath the pad. One nifty inclusion I really love is the addition of red action buttons as the wheels to make the accessories roll forward or back. Now, that’s going to be yet another nifty fidget toy to fiddle with on your work desk.

For nerdy gamers, the charger will juice up compatible devices at 15W speed. While most of the phones from major IEMs like Google, Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei, OnePlus and more are supported; some newer devices are still not on the list. So better go through the list before making a buying decision right away. These phones include the latest Google Pixel, Samsung’s 2022 flagship, and OnePlus’ freshest premium device. That however is expected to be sorted in the coming months.

8BitDO has made it a point not to overload the charger with unwanted gimmicks – just a LED that lights up when the phone draws power from the cool gadget. For the more skeptical lot, the NES gamepad wireless charger comes with voltage and current surge protection, and also shield against overheating.

MOMAX LED Desk Lamps bring light and beauty any time of the day

It’s hard to imagine what life would be like without the lamps that light up not only our nights but our days as well. It would probably be fine if sunlight was consistent and reliable during the day and could penetrate the walls of our houses and offices. Desk lamps, in particular, have become necessary to be both productive and creative in many aspects of life, no matter the time of day. Given their importance, it’s almost a shame if these lamps simply occupy space on your desk when they’re not in use. Fortunately, lamp designs have leveled up through the years, and MOMAX’s new batch of LED lamps demonstrate how they can be not only multi-functional but aesthetic as well.

It’s easy enough to downplay how a desk lamp looks. After all, isn’t it supposed to just provide lighting, anyway? But considering how it will be in your view for a great portion of the day, it would be best for your eyes and your mind if it also looked visually appealing. That’s why a few modern desk lamps have embraced minimalist designs, and these three new desk lamps from MOMAX manage to achieve that while also offering more functionality than meets the eye.

MOMAX QL1 Desk Lamp

The MOMAX QL1, for example, is a rather handsome piece that looks like two thin bars of metal that have come together to provide light while minimizing its footprint on your desk. It is the gymnast of this group, able to swivel up and down up to 270 degrees and twist its light bar head by the same amount. This allows the LED lamp, which has five color modes and six brightness levels, to reach and illuminate any part of your desk. And when it’s not in use, it can fold down to a more discrete form while its base acts as a convenient wireless charging pad for your phone.

MOMAX QL6 Desk Lamp

The MOMAX QL6 is admittedly less flexible in terms of movement, though being able to rotate and swivel at 180 degrees is no small matter. The LED desk lamp makes up for this with the flexibility of its functions, adding value to this desk accessory. In addition to its wireless charging base for phones and accessories, it also has a built-in USB-A charging port that can provide power for devices that don’t support wireless charging. Additionally, the MOMAX QL6 can even be operated completely hands-free thanks to its integration with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and IFTTT. The ability to turn it on or off through a mobile app or set a schedule for its light makes it also ideal as a bedside lamp.

MOMAX QL9 Desk Lamp

Last but definitely not least, the MOMAX QL9 offers the ultimate flexibility in terms of movement and functions. Able to rotate and fold to save space when not needed or reach different heights and sides, the desk lamp is useful whether you’re sitting or standing at your desk. Its honeycomb lenses help diffuse the glare of bright light and reduce eye fatigue, offering a softer glow to give your eyes a break. Combined with both wireless and wired charging, this lamp adds a minimalist yet stylish accent to any desk.

EDITOR'S QUOTE:

Cute, compact, and capable, the Anker 3-in-1 Cube with MagSafe charging station is a great addition to any Apple fan's arsenal if they can overlook the charging time and price tag.

With Apple’s trifecta of mobile devices that can charge wirelessly, there has been a rise in charging stations that try to accommodate all three. While it isn’t always the case, many people who own an iPhone are likely to also own an Apple Watch or AirPods. Conversely, those who own an Apple Watch or AirPods are guaranteed to own an iPhone. 3-in-1 wireless charging docks for these three initially came in the most common form of a flat bed, but this design has become somewhat old-fashioned and impractical because of the amount of space they take up. Some charging dock designs have become smarter and fancier to use very little space, but these beautiful docks are not things you’ll be able to take with you on your travels. Casting its net wide, Anker launched a rather adorable 3-in-1 Cube charging station for that very purpose, so give it a few spins to see if it’s more than just a pretty face.

Designer: Anker

Aesthetics

The Anker 3-in-1 Cube with MagSafe’s design is uncommon enough to grab anyone’s attention, at least anyone that’s paying too much attention to your desk or stuff. In its inactive and folded form, the charging station almost looks like a desk toy if not for the obvious Anker branding. Its black surface and premium looks do suggest that it’s no plaything, though, but it will still be eye-catching either way.

When fully unfolded, the Cube looks like a toy battle station with its tilted top and extruded shelf on one side. Those familiar with wireless charging accessories will now see telltale signs of that kind of functionality, especially with the ring that marks MagSafe-compatible chargers as well as the white concave surface common to Apple Watch chargers. When all charging surfaces are occupied, the charging station definitely looks the part of a battle station. Some might find it too busy to the point of being distracting, but it definitely saves a lot of horizontal and vertical space to keep your desk or shelf tidy.

The accessory is pretty minimal in terms of visual design, but Anker put a few odd accents that try to spice things up without making much sense. There is a small patch of reflective material on the front for the hinge of the adjustable phone charger, for example. Even stranger, however, is the mirror surface beneath that “lid,” reflecting the AirPods case charger or the case itself. Its purpose is a complete mystery since it can’t really be used as a mirror for your face, nor does it reflect anything that you wouldn’t be able to see directly anyway.

All-in-all, the Cube’s unique appearance makes it a good accent on a desk, whether folded or unfolded. Its compact form, however, is also ideal for stuffing into your bag when you need to travel with all your Apple devices. It is a bit heavy at 14.46oz/409g, but that also means it will stand without wobbling on desks or tables, even if all you’re charging is the Apple Watch and nothing else.

Ergonomics

The Anker 3-in-1 Cube with MagSafe has a simple appearance that belies its functionality. After all, who would expect that a small box would be able to hold three devices all at once? Fortunately, the accessory is also so easy to use that you can never go wrong, even if you try hard. It’s trivial to set any of the three charging spots up and still fold the box down in a flash, making it ideal for people who need to pack up and go at a moment’s notice.

The charging area for iPhones and other compatible smartphones lifts up like the lid of a treasure box, except that the opening is facing away from you. This allows the phone to be tilted to face you rather than always looking up at the ceiling. It can only tilt as far as 60 degrees, but that’s more than enough to see the phone’s screen comfortably. Since this is MagSafe charging, the phone won’t slide down in that position, either. Even better, you can put the phone sideways, too, turning the charging station into an ad hoc stand for watching videos.

The Apple Watch charger pops out from the side with a simple push, revealing a familiar surface for placing the phone. This retracting mechanism makes it super easy to access that function without getting in the way when you don’t need it. There is enough space to accommodate Apple Watches from any generation, though the small space might make for a tight fit for the larger Ultra model. Unlike the iPhone charging part, the Apple Watch charging platform is fixed at its angle, so you won’t have access to its Nightstand feature while charging. That might not be necessary since the iPhone can be charged at a visible angle, but that won’t be the case if the Apple Watch is the only one sitting there.

In comparison to the iPhone and the Apple Watch, the charger for AirPods is a bit more awkward but still convenient nonetheless. You’ll have to flip the phone charging “lid” open to put the charging case in the gap, so there’s no way to keep that top closed while charging the AirPods. Since it will be lying at the back of the charger, there’s no way to check the case’s charging status without having to turn the box. It’s not exactly too much work, but it could be inconvenient, especially if you consider that the charging cable could be pulled in the process.

Performance

While the 3-in-1 Cube with MagSafe offers the convenience of charging all three devices at the same time, it doesn’t exactly offer the fastest charging speeds for any of them. On the box, the iPhone MagSafe charger maxes out at 15W, while the AirPods charger goes up to 5W. Perhaps the most disappointing figure is the Apple Watch charger at its max speed of 5W.

The 15W output of the iPhone charger is admittedly faster than what the old Apple chargers put out for years, but it’s hardly the fastest now that Apple has adopted more modern technologies. It can charge an iPhone 14 Pro Max to full in almost three hours, but smaller iPhones will definitely charge faster. The magnets are definitely strong enough to keep that large iPhone in place, but some people might want to take particular note of the cases they use, just in case they’re too thick to make a proper connection.

At 5W, the Apple Watch charger is sadly behind the times, but that might not matter much to people who charge the smartwatch overnight or during working hours. It takes about two hours and a half to fill the Apple Watch, which is plenty of time except if you’re in a hurry. Anker is definitely capable of providing more power, but it might have had to make some compromises in order to gain Apple’s certification for MagSafe products. In a compact box like this, higher output could result in higher temperatures that could, in turn, become a safety risk.

Anker ships a 30W charger in the box along with a 5ft/1.5m USB-C cable (more on that later). That high output is necessary to supply enough power to all three devices simultaneously, so it’s also good that the respective chargers need very little in the first place. The power brick has foldable plugs that make it compact and easy to throw in a bag, along with the 3-in-1 Cube. Given its output, it might even be the only charger you’ll have to bring along aside from your laptop charger, even for some wired devices.

Sustainability

Like many accessories for mobile devices and consumer electronics, the 3-in-1 Cube for MagSafe uses plenty of plastic materials. Fortunately, Anker is one of those companies that are trying to change that formula and reduce its negative impact on the environment. The charging station itself is typical in that regard, but Anker has taken steps to mitigate the damage.

Like Apple itself, it started by reducing the amount of plastic it uses in packaging by an average of 90%. It has also switched the inner material of the packaging from plastic to pulp and has used 100% FSC-certified recyclable packaging paper, which also uses natural soy ink to reduce the use of harmful chemicals. While the Cube itself has plenty of plastic, its more compact size allowed Anker to reduce that by 30.9g during its construction.

Unfortunately, those sustainability gains are undone by shipping a charger with the Cube. On the one hand, it is definitely convenient since you won’t have to scavenge for a 30W charger, presuming you don’t already have one anyway. Admittedly, not all iPhone users have such a fast charger since Apple no longer ships one with iPhones. With the addition of adapters for different plugs, that still adds quite a significant amount of plastic to the total package, not to mention making the packaging bigger than it could be.

There’s also the worry of repairs and replacement parts, especially with a pop-out mechanism for the Apple Watch charger. It’s a little more complex than a simple hinge and adds moving parts that will wear and tear over time. It could definitely be the part that will get damaged first, and it won’t be something that owners will be able to fix on their own. And once that mechanism is broken, accessing one of the critical functions of the device also goes out the window.

Value

In terms of design and convenience alone, the Anker 3-in-1 Cube with MagSafe looks like a solid deal already. Cute, attractive, compact, and multi-functional, it is both an excellent travel accessory as well as an eye-catching desk decoration. And since it comes with a Made for MagSafe certification, it comes with the same confidence and trust that people give Apple’s first-party products.

It does cost a rather hefty $149.95, which is quite higher than what other 3-in-1 docks cost. Given how average the charging speeds are, you might be reluctant to make such an investment, especially if you’re one that relies heavily on super-fast charging. That said, you’d be hard-pressed to find something as adorable and as space-efficient as this, especially one that you can easily pack with you on your regular travels.

Verdict

Who said that charging docks have to be literal docks that take up a lot of space on your desk or shelf? Who says that they have to stay on said desk or shelf in the first place? The Anker 3-in-1 Cube with MagSafe Charging Station definitely doesn’t say so and challenges the status quo of its kind. Yes, it is a bit pricey, and the charging speeds could be better, but one can imagine that Anker had to make some compromises to keep the device small and satisfy Apple’s requirements. Minimal yet attractive, compact yet multi-functional, this little box makes a great companion anywhere, whether on your desk or your hotel room’s bedside table.

This eye-catching wireless charger bares the magic of technology in a classy way

Wireless chargers have now become fashionable, especially after Apple finally adopted the technology for its iPhones. In fact, there might be too many options to choose from these days, ranging from simple to sophisticated, from single-purpose to multi-functional. One thing that all these chargers have in common is that they try to hide the technology behind meaningful designs, and rightly so. After all, you don’t need to know what a wireless charging coil looks like or how it works to be able to use a charging mat. But what if you could have your cake and eat it too? What if you could see what makes the device tick but presented in a rather elegant fashion? That’s the kind of luxury experience that this wireless charger is trying to offer, making it feel like such an accessory is actually a fashion item rather than a geeky gadget.

Designer: Zens

One of the most critical parts of the current wireless charging system are the coils that use electromagnetic fields to transfer electricity through the air. These coils are pretty much made from copper wires, the very same kind you’s see in any electronic cable. On their own, these wires and coils might seem mundane and boring. Together, they have the potential to become an artistic display that exposes the technology but hides the complexity underneath.

The Liberty Wireless Charger Glass Edition does exactly that, revealing the most interesting part of the system and presenting it in a captivating visual. The copper coils, which look more like bronze gold threads spun around in circles, are arranged in an overlapping pattern that covers almost the entire surface of the charger. This pattern gives the charger an almost art deco vibe that’s sure to catch anyone’s attention, even when there are some devices covering them. The charger is topped by tempered glass for protection and added appeal.

The charger can support more than one device sitting on top of it, which is why there are quite a number of coils spread around, 16 of them, to be precise. It can do both iPhones and Android phones, as long as they comply with the Qi wireless charging standard. If that weren’t enough, there’s also an upward-facing USB-A port that just out just a bit to support another device with a charging cable. Or you can get one of the brand’s own Apple Watch USB stick to prop up a compatible smartwatch so you can use its Nightstand mode as well.

In terms of actual functions, the Liberty wireless charger doesn’t exactly offer anything groundbreaking or novel. Some might even say that all it does is make a wireless charging bed look prettier. It’s easy to downplay that effect, but making something look beautiful means also making it look more approachable and less impersonal, which is how devices should really be.

This magnetic wireless charger plugs directly into unused bedside sockets to save space

Wireless chargers come in all shapes and sizes, but most of them are designed to be placed on some horizontal surface like a desk or table. Even those that use magnets to keep a phone in place vertically or at an angle come with stands that only work on such flat planes. That’s not really surprising, considering that most charging times happen on work desks or bedside tables. In some cases, however, beds might have sockets right beside the headboard, especially in hotels. These sockets mostly remain unused or, at the very least, are used by only one wired charger. This pocket-sized gadget concept can change that story and open up that socket for more devices, including your phone, which will be sticking to the wall magnetically while it charges.

Designer: Qian Qingyun

A socket beside your bed is convenient for plugging a charger, but most will probably only have one charger for a single device. There are multi-device docks available to solve that problem, but those can also take up space on that same table. There’s also the problem that you can’t carry that dock with you on your travels, so that bedside socket remains underutilized or, worse, unused.

MAGEPAN is a concept for a small box that frees that socket from those limitations. It’s small enough to pack inside your bag or even stashed in your pocket. And while it was designed specifically with the bedside socket in mind, its design lends itself well to other purposes. In a nutshell, it’s a magnetic wireless charger whose body plugs directly into a power socket, removing the middle man of a long cord. While that might not make sense in normal cases where such sockets are far away, hotel rooms are filled with such facilities that don’t get used that much because of their location.

You simply plug MAGEPAN into a wall socket and then stick your phone to it. As long as it uses magnetic wireless charging similar to MagSafe, you shouldn’t have to worry about it falling off. The wireless charger is even compatible with Apple Watches, so you can have a bedside clock with the smartwatch’s nightstand mode while it charges hanging on the wall. The charger even has a handy night light that will keep you from groping in the dark.

You might think that having a wireless charger blocking a wall socket is a waste, and that would be true if not for MAGEPAN’s other feature. With two USB-C ports coming out of its bottom, it practically acts as a dock that lets you plug in other devices that don’t support wireless charging. The only difference is that this dock doesn’t take up any space on your bedside table but makes efficient use of a socket you probably would have ignored otherwise.

This cute and tiny wireless charger design is genius in its simplicity

Wireless charging has been around for many years, but, as usual, it was Apple’s adoption of the technology that finally opened the floodgates for other companies. Naturally, that has given birth to a wide variety of accessories supporting wireless charging, ranging from charging mats to portable power banks. Wireless chargers don’t always have to be complex, though, and there is indeed a pushback against chargers that take up more space than necessary. It might even be possible to actually distill the technology down to its most basic components, such as this a cord for the power and a cylinder. Rather than limiting its functions, however, this minimalist design actually offers a bit more flexibility in the way you can charge your phone wirelessly.

Designer: MTCS STUDIO

The standard design of a wireless charging mat was born from the limitations of the technology. It had to be flat, or at least flat enough to reduce the gap between the charging coils in the charger and in the device. Given smartphones’ tendency to slide off a flat surface, charging mats themselves often lie horizontally or at a small incline only. Apple made the latter limitation moot when it introduced magnets to the equation, allowing the two flat surfaces to stick together regardless of the position.

This ultra-minimal wireless charger concept uses that design as well as simple shapes to reduce the space needed for the accessory. The charger itself is nothing more than a cylinder with a hemisphere cap on one end that leads to the simple power cord. In addition to being an interesting shape, it also functions as a mechanism to prop a phone up at any angle, regardless of its orientation.

The curved end of the charger makes sure that its body is never completely flat when a phone is attached. The phone’s body, which exceeds the area of the charger’s flat end, is what raises the two to the ideal angle. Simple physics prevents the charger from sliding backward, while the phone’s flat edges stop its round body from rolling sideways. Of course, the connection between the two is only made possible if there are magnets involved, like with an iPhone and Apple MagSafe.

The resulting design makes this wireless charger even more flexible than the most sophisticated charger design. You can use it almost anywhere with very little space requirement, and it can even be incorporated into other designs or accessories, like something that would hold it aloft with a stand. More importantly, it also reduces material waste with its compact design, something that would appeal to both minimalism fans and eco-conscious users.

Layer Design’s state-of-the-art charging station conveniently powers various devices without compromising aesthetics

I like the idea of portable convenience over organized accessibility. For reasons of your own, if you think you’d better have a device delivering an organized desk than a device for the backpack, Vitra Ampi charging station is a state-of-the-art offering for you.

The compact charging station is designed to relieve you of messy, tangling cables yet provide you with enough ports for charging convenience. The device is boxy and may not be the best to carry around in the backpack, but then, it’s primarily fashioned for the working-from-home generation, for which the device checks all the boxes. Complementing the finesse of your home office desk, the Vitra Ampi is designed in collaboration with Vitra and LAYER. Ampi derives its name from ‘amps’ – a unit that denotes the amount of electricity used by a device.

Designer:  Layer Design

The desk accessory has a wireless charging tray on the top. It has a fabric tab protruding out of the side, like a tongue, pulling which a small drawer is revealed, which houses the USB-C and USB-A charging ports and two mains outlets within. The first collaborative product from Vitra and LAYER, the Ampi has been ready for the market after two years of dedicated development. For offering multiple options to charge various devices from one device, the Vitra Ampi is described as the ‘first charging station of its type in the world.’

The discretely designed Ampi features a body made from recyclable plastic. The softly tactile pull tab attached to the middle of the magnetic drawer is made from Kvadrat. For the benefit of the working population that has multiple devices connected at one go on the work desk; Ampi is a viable charging solution. It has the means to juice up to six gadgets, such as tablets, phones, headphones, and cameras, without tangling cables. Ampi is currently available in the UK, EU and the US in Basic Dark and Soft Grey colors for £185 ($199). We learn that it would be provided in five new colors within the next few months.
