A space-saving work and workout setup designed to keep your mind & body healthy!

It has been one year of WFH and we all have quickly realized the need for furniture that can serve dual purposes and optimize space when we are working at home/living at work. Especially for the urban demographic that lives in compact apartments, it is a challenge to create a home office and also have space left for exercise equipment – another lifestyle change we have adapted to! This innovative desk design uses wall bars at its core with modular attachments that let you use it as your 9-5 set up and then transform it into beast mode.

“The designer wall bars are one of the most flexible wall bars in Germany. Can be installed anywhere in the room without dowels. Just stretch it between the floor and the rigid ceiling,” says the team on the no-screw assembly which is a huge USP especially if you are renting your home or move frequently. Shapely additions crafted from wood make the aesthetic wall bars a multifunctional fitness device for the whole family. You can customize it per your ceiling and your needs, in fact, the company also sells kid-friendly setups that have slides instead of workout benches! It lets you use a single corner for a home office, homeschooling, home gym, and a kid zone seamlessly without taking up an insane amount of space. On a personal note, I love that the desk height is adjustable given the Lego-style build because I can easily turn my table into a standing desk when needed!

Made in Germany, wall bars offer a particularly wide range of possible variations. In addition to many training options, the combination offers a functional workplace. The desk module is attached in a few seconds, without tools. The height is flexible, so it can be used as a desk or as a high table. After work, the desk module can simply be unhooked and folded in so that it can be stowed behind the wall bars, under the bed, or behind the door. With additions like the slide, the kids can find their movement-compensation on the wall bars even after work. These setups work for the whole family and the wooden finish lets it seamlessly blend with any interior aesthetic.

This two-tiered desk uses loops to provide plenty of storage for your 2021 WFH setup

Our living spaces have seen a lot of changes this past year, but none more than our work-from-home offices. Whether you’re still working from bed or if you’ve redesigned a corner of your bedroom to fit your desk, working from home has changed the spaces where we work. With that, we’re also scrubbing our walls and ditching any hint of maximalism for the fresh look of minimalism. To construct a desk that accommodates this mode of working from home while sticking to this renewed wave of minimalism, João Teixeira designed Loop Desk, a simple computer desk that’s built for the organizing nut in each of us.

The two-tiered desktop has plenty of working space and a slim build that easily adapts to any room, making it a solid choice for future WFH renovations. In addition to its slim build, Loop Desk reflects a minimalist aesthetic that feels more sophisticated than stylish or trendy. With rounded edges and a monitor stand that hovers above the main working space, Loop Desk was named for the various loops that comprise its full-frame. Computer monitors can be placed on Loop Desk’s tallest working tier, while a keyboard and any other working material can be organized on the desktop’s main working area.

The front drawer of the Loop Desk supplies some storage for lighter accessories like staplers and notebooks, while the backside reveals roomy storage pockets that can be used for rolled-up poster blueprints and hiding knots of cable and wires. Loop Desk can accommodate plenty of practical needs, while always maintaining a refined, suave look to tie up the loose ends of any home workspace. Loop Desk’s natural wood finish and clever storage options will feel right at home in any WFH office– whether it’s still in the bedroom or not.

Designer: João Teixeira

With a slim desktop and stacked loop shelves, Loop Deks maintains a small build without compromising working space.

Loop Desk’s main drawer allows space for appliances like wireless keyboards to be stored when not in use.

With such a thin frame, Loop Desk can fit into any working environment.

The slim build of the Loop Desk doesn’t take away from the ample working space made available by the main desktop as well as the top-tier desk.

Smooth, rounded edges give the Loop Desk a neutral, sophisticated finished look to fit into any bedroom or home office.

This tripod-inspired adjustable desk goes from sitting to standing while working from home!

Nowadays, many of us are working from home and that means our workspaces are probably also benefitting from some home makeover projects. Being able to work comfortably from your own living space is critical for not just a steady workflow, but also for both maintaining and preserving our mental health. With the disaster of a year that was 2020, the need for a relaxed work-from-home space could not be overstated. Inspired by today’s unprecedented working culture, the creatives at Intension Design came out with their Tripod Standing Desk, an adjustable, portable, and multifunctional desk designed specifically to confront the restlessness and inconvenience that too often accompanies working from home.

The desk itself is carved from Baltic birch and its supplementary, multifunctional tripod is constructed from aircraft-grade aluminum. The Tripod Standing Desk comes with its tabletop in either Baltic birch, walnut, black, or white, a multifunctional tripod and carrying case, a quick-release plate, and finally, two non-scratch laptop stops for angled working. Once the standing desk’s preferred height, anywhere between 1.8 and 4.8 feet, and angle, which can rest at an incline or lay flat, is chosen then users will only have to tighten the tripod’s quick-release clamps like they would with a typical tripod used to mount cameras. Additionally, the Tripod Standing Desk is portable and only weighs 4.5 pounds, making it easy to work in tight spaces while traveling or changing rooms.

Already making the good kind of waves across plenty of digital platforms, the Tripod Standing Desk’s immovable stability is achieved from a mathematically proven ratio defined by the tabletop’s 12-inch length and 16-inch width and the tripod’s maximum three-foot width. With the onset of Tripod Standing Desk’s launch, many users were hopeful to see a larger tabletop option in the future. Addressing this request, the designers also explain why working with a larger tabletop could be difficult, “The problem with a bigger tabletop is it becomes harder to maintain balance since the desk is resting on a tripod…we have decided to stay away from a bigger tabletop for now since it’s not as stable.”

While a larger tabletop might be out of the question for Intension Design, for an additional cost, the desk comes with a clamp-on platform for extra functional space ideal for either a mouse or other working accessory. Proving what can get done with just one wooden tabletop and an adjustable tripod, teachers and yoga instructors alike have chosen the Tripod Standing Desk for their work-from-home spaces because, with changeable heights and angles, the Tripod Standing Desk can be used for anything from home fitness instruction to painting.

This modular desk lets you design every element to create the perfect work setup that meets your changing needs!

The right desk is arguably the most important addition to every workspace. They set the tone and pace for organization, creativity, and productivity for each workday. Over time, desks somehow end up personifying the people sitting behind them, becoming either messy with miscellaneous paper scraps for the scatter-brained creative or tidier than ever with only a laptop and calculator for the organized, Type A worker bee. What if we were able to design our desks before they defined us? That might turn out to be the last desk we’d ever need.

Frame CPH, a design team based in Copenhagen, recently debuted LastDesk, a modular desk that you can design yourself to unlock your ideal workspace. The aim was to create a desk that can easily adapt to today’s ever-changing technological and remote working developments. The desk itself is a classic interpretation of Scandinavian design, but it offers a more accessible approach to minimalism through the desk’s modular features. While the frame of LastDesk is as simple a frame as they come, the desktop comes equipped with changeable wooden trays and flat, slate gray slabs that can either provide extra storage for your workspace, a wireless charging station, or a means to rid your workspace of any unnecessary clutter.

Wooden trays with minimalist-approved, shallow pockets can be added to your desktop in either the top left or right corner in case any additional room for storage is needed. Then, if you prefer a more open, tidy desktop, flip the wooden trays over and expand the deskspace for more working room. Finally, if your smartphone or other wireless electronic device needs some battery juice, pick the wireless charging base and turn your desk into a power-charging station. LastDesk’s legs are also adjustable so, if you’re looking for a stand-up desk or a traditional sit-down desk, then LastDesk can adapt to your changing mind and workload. LastDesk also offers a next-generation wireless charging module, an intelligent sit-to-stand OLED controller, and a built-in, high-speed 60W USB charging slot located on one of the desk’s side panels.

Together with Søren Rose Studio, Frame CPH, and the Danish furniture brand, Stykka have designed a desk, produced with responsibility-sourced material for longevity, that is meant to be disassembled and reconstructed again and again to roll with the ever-changing world around us – they’ve designed the ultimate desk that will always work for you, the ultimate user.

Designer: Frame CPH x Søren Rose Studio for Stykka

LastDesk interprets Scandinavian design by embracing a pure, clean, and focused overall aesthetic, while also offering additional desktop designs through modularity. By integrating an unassuming, smooth wire slot for your laptop chargers or desktop wires, it’s easy to keep LastDesk organized and tidy.

Other modular trays include additional workspace accessories, such as task lamps, which are available for users to attach to LastDesk. By integrating changeable parts with which users can attach accessories, the creators at Frame CPH further enhance LastDesk’s adaptive qualities.

If necessary, a slot specifically meant for monitor mount insertions can be incorporated onto LastDesk’s top piece, so that users can optimize the desk’s working area and also securely attach their hardware to LastDesk’s modular structure.

In addition to the task lamp, a Sonos speaker comes attached to one of the slate gray, modular trays and can be chosen as one of the ways to personalize your unique LastDesk configuration. The Sonos speakers addition is an ideal companion for phone meetings or conference calls that can take place at a desk.

Finally, LastDesk comes equipped with another modular tray that doubles as a wireless charging station for your smartphone or accompanying, chargeable device. For the long workdays that turn into longer work nights, this charging station will be sure to keep your phone charged up and ready (even when you might not be).

Panasonic’s 15-min WFH cubicle brings the simplicity of Japanese aesthetic home

If the pandemic has taught me one lesson it is how to optimize your space to live and work. And then leveled up that lesson by adding a sibling into the mix so now I have to optimize a small space for two of us to work and live. Times like this is when I wish I had a little partition so I could focus, it is not so much about wanting a whole room to work but a designated area that puts you in the zone is certainly helpful. Panasonic has designed a simple solution to draw boundaries between work and play without taking up too much space with their Komoru cubicle and I need to order two when they launch on September 18th, 2020!

The Japanese brand has infused this mini cubicle with simple details that help you work efficiently while not adding visual bulk to your interior space. Working from home has had many of us come up with creative ways to stay productive –  this Komoru cubicle saves your time and effort. You can easily assemble the desk and partition at home which are the two main structural components. Unlike a traditional office cubicle, this is four feet tall which allows you to see over the partition walls while still sitting at your desk.

It is a quick way to create a private work corner especially if you are living in a shared space. Thoughtful design details like the perforations in the panels and hooks help you keep your desk clutter-free and make the most of the walls by hanging your accessories like your headphones, pictures, work essentials, and more on the side. The desk assembles in 15 minutes and will blend in with your interiors seamlessly. The global pivot towards work from home was very much needed and designs that can give us our dedicated space make the change a positive one!

Desk designs that uplift your work and office space!

Half of 2020 is over, and do you remember those days at the start of this year when we would roam around the planet fearlessly, where the days were filled with IG-worthy moments curated to share on our Instagram page? Now, while we stay protected indoors, the focus is to not rely on pretty looking cafe’s but create your own savvy pace that will house you for the rest of this pandemic and lets start by choosing the best desk to setup your station. Given that we work during most of the day, these desk designs will entertain everyone from cat-lovers to people who believe in power naps – there is a desk here for every situation!

Meet the ‘Chaise Renversée’ – a desk that can also transform into a long chair by the famous French architect Pierre-Louis Gerlier. The literal translation of Chaise Renversée is ‘chair overturned’, I love how simply the French put everything. Since we are all cooped up in our homes, we are constantly finding ways to optimize space. Especially if you live in a city, you are likely to have everyday objects that are modular so that you have a functional space. Our current situation and the need to be flexible within a small space is exactly what inspired Gerlier to design the Chaise Renversée. It is the perfect blend of work from home and Netflix from home into one piece of modern furniture, it provides a stable table area to work and can then transform into the ‘Chaise Lounge’ when you want to relax.

This desk by Yeg Design Studio is called Clock and I want you to keep that in mind for the rest of this story. Clock was designed to be compact and fit in the growing trend of smaller living spaces. The designer wanted to create something that seamlessly blended into our workdays (especially when working from home!) without disrupting our office hours or eating habits. The hybrid station converts food waste into energy to power itself wirelessly but also includes the systems to be plugged into a wall if needed. It is an innovative product that combines technology and functionality to sustainably manage waste and encourage more people to shift to natural/renewable energy sources.

In all the desk designs I’ve seen over the years, this is a first for me! It’s called ‘Ascend’ and it’s been created by Dan Devine for all the cat ladies and fellas out there. Like any cat person will tell you, the moment you give attention to anything but your furry friend, they’ll find a way to lounge on your keyboard or knock over your utensils until it’s back on them! Designed with this in mind, the wood desk has been crafted with multiple ramps and landings for cats to perch up and play. If you can’t fight ’em, invite ’em!

The Pill Writing Desk by Emco really challenges a lot of fundamental notions of desk-design, if it were. With an unusual shape that’s eye-catching when closed and functional when open, the Pill manages to behave like furniture but look a little like minimalist art. The circular desk comes firmly wall-mounted, which makes it comparable to a wall-hung painting rather than a 4-legged floor-resting desk. The desk’s pill-inspired design is divided into three units. The upper semicircle serves as a writing space with enough storage for your belongings (including your laptop), while the lower quadrants act as a pair of cabinets for other items you may need to store.

Designed by Geoffrey Pascal, this furniture collection makes life easier for those who want to work on their bed without the risk of napping! The 3 pieces in the Grafeiphobia’s Unexpected Office range are based on the frame of a basic, slatted wooden bed. It gives a true ergonomic benefit by supporting the user to comfortably be in NASA’s Neutral Body Position which was developed to promote better health in astronauts when they live in zero-gravity environment. The user can work in different positions that are as natural as being in bed while supporting the body’s posture as if they are working on a desk. The weight is distributed across multiple points in the body which is healthier than the seated desk position which concentrates force downwards on the lower back.

The Porsche 911 Writing Desk by 3 GJB 17 gives you one more reason and opportunity to correct those commoners who pronounce it “Porsh” by telling them it is, in fact, “Por-shuh”… Made from original Porsche 911 body parts, coated in Arctic Silver automotive paint, and finished with Custom Made American Walnut attachments that complement the car’s contours beautifully, the 911 Writing Desk takes the iconic car’s rear end, converting its boot hood into a writing surface that doubles up as a cabinet for storing your stationery (using a spring-loaded hinge that lifts the boot lid up). There’s no reason you’d NEED the Porsche 911 Writing Desk over any other writing desk (an IKEA or Pottery Barn one, perhaps), but its design may sure leave you lusting after it anyway

FJU desk

Designed by the German design studio Kaschkasch, the FJU desk is one such instance of a compact piece of furniture making the most of its structure. It is an extremely linear and simple wall desk, an example of a foldable workspace. It can be closed or folded up, to make use of the two tiers of storage (maybe as a magazine rack!) or as a sleek writing surface. The writing surface is spacious enough to contain your computer, laptop, iPad, books and etc. It’s ‘foldable’ quality is all thanks to an innovative hidden mechanism, owing to the genius of the designers. Crafted from oak, the FJU desk is coated with an organic finishing of muted charcoal.

Olly Desk by Pavel Vetrov features multiple perfect little niches in your table desk that holds your stationery in place for you. Along with this, there is a small cut out that holds all the wires and cables from a laptop, computer, or other equipment in the center of the table. Who needs to buy more organizers when your desk is so mindful of your needs? We are in love already. Aside from a pull-out drawer at its center, it also has openings dedicated to propping up your tablet, phone, or other slim techs for easy viewing that takes up less desktop real estate than laying them down flat.

The Shelter desk by João Teixeira is a project that is coming to life because the designer was on a quest for the perfect desk. If you are someone who loves to have a clean, organized, clutter-free desk then this is the one for you! It was designed keeping in mind all the devices, wires, and accessories that live on our work stations, however, Shelter still remains minimal while maximizing the value of a desk. There are three slim drawers on the front side that are big enough to store your gadgets, like tablets or laptops. The back drawer was designed for you to hide all your cables and chargers. But the beauty of this desk lies in the curved drawers that give this desk its fluidity while retaining the functionality of the design.

The Lennart desk by Désormeaux/Carrette studio for Made is so much more than just a desk, it’s your own personal workstation! Its striking yet elegant silhouette, curves around the user giving them a sense of personal space as well as allowing them to focus on the task at hand. The beautiful wooden top conceals a useful storage area that is an ideal home for loose stationary and cables, leading to a desktop that is always clear of clutter. But don’t worry, as distracting as the alluring design is, your to-do lists that are held on the magnetic pin board are sure to keep you on track!
