Most smart TVs could probably be used for gaming, but they can still be improved. So LG wants to make a difference by creating an optimized version for gaming. Specifically, the LG UltraGear 48GQ900 comes with a V-shaped foot, so the screen is elevated.

The LG UltraGear 48GQ900 has built-in 20W stereo speakers, a 3.5mm four-pole headset jack, and a two-port USB 3.0 hub. It comes with a remote control that may be used for gaming. The remote control features a Game Mode toggle and more buttons for power, mute, video inputs, and audio outputs. Expect the standard headset jack, but it is also powerful enough to support DTS Headphone X technology.

Japan will get the products before this month ends.

Concept LG Display appears like a scroll, looks great in matte finish

Concept displays will continue to be designed and introduced as technology advances. In the past few years, we have seen flexible displays implemented on smartphones. The rise of foldable phones has started years ago, and soon, we may see bigger projects with rollable or flexible screens like a door, cabinet, or a window.

The recent OLEDsGo competition is about to conclude. Several groups have shared their designs, including the Totem Rollable OLED Display. Another project presented by Studio Booboon is the Scroll, but it’s an old design. This one is a transparent OLED television that can fit most homes. It’s not exactly a flexible display but the shelf shows a curved design.

The Scroll transforms into a shelf when not in use. Once it is turned off, it becomes a shelf that can carry your stuff. The Scroll appears like a scroll with its curved portion at the bottom of the screen. The display device’s shelf is made of weighted metal pipe don’t put anything too heavy on top.

It’s mainly a TV, but it looks nothing like a boring TV. It features an elegant and clean look in different color options: Gray, White, and Pink. It seems more like a furniture item than a gadget. It can match most interiors with its minimalist style.

The project Scroll was awarded first place in the OLEDsGo! Competition 2021. It showed an almost bezel-less curving display. It may remind you of an iMac with its smooth finish and super slim display. It doesn’t have any speakers, unlike the LG Totem with Soundbar. The TV can be placed on the wall or the floor as it can stand on its own.

The name Scroll is obviously after a scroll that curves and scrolls out. The shelf portion is one end of the scroll that offers high-resolution images. It can also work as a digital photo frame or a digital painting. Just share your photos and view them on the TV or simply watch your favorite TV series or movie.

The concept LG Display is expected to also offer an enhanced viewing display experience like the Totem Rollable OLED Display. It could have been better with a soundbar but it’s already a great design on its own. The design team has also previously come up with other interesting designs like the Sombrero Table Light which looks like a hat and functions as either ambient light or focused light.

LG OMNIPOD car concept gives a new whole meaning to living on the road

You don’t need to always wear a VR headset to enjoy the Metaverse, especially if you can just stay in your self-driving car and be at your office even while on your way to your vacation.

CES 2022 was the first time in two years that the annual event returned to face-to-face interactions. Almost ironically, a lot of the showcases there revolved around virtual experiences, particularly the kind that the Metaverse movement is trying to push. Being physically present in one place while also virtually experiencing a different location at the same time is one of the biggest premises of this convergence of technologies, but most of those involve wearing some form of headset, be it VR goggles or more stylish AR glasses. The Metaverse isn’t limited to that, of course, and LG’s vision of the future of mobility tries to show how you can relax or even work while in transit to a completely different location.

Like many futuristic car concepts, LG’s OMNIPOD is filled with screens. Not just the dash or front panels, mind, but even the sides and the ceiling of the vehicle. LG calls it an “expansive tunnel screen” or “Meta-environment screen,” and it’s the part of the car then tries to immerse the rider or riders in a virtual environment or, alternatively, give them a peek of the outside world without opening any windows.

The car isn’t just about displaying videos or virtual offices, though. Every part of the vehicle is designed to make a person feel like they’re in anything but a moving car. There’s a modular mini-fridge, for example, that even includes an induction range on top for cooking on the go. The spacious cabin of the OMNIPOD can be an office space or a recording studio, depending on your need at the moment. And, of course, the car’s screens will change to create a virtual environment that makes you feel as if you’re really at work, perhaps to help boost your productivity.

Given the events of the past two years, there are also elements of sanitation in this moving living space. An “Air Shower,” for example, blasts passengers with negatively ionized air to remove dust and germs, while an LG Styler can hold your coats and shoes to sanitize them and keep them clean until you need to wear them again. And after each trip, the car’s virtual assistant Reah will flood the cabin with UV light and get robot vacuums rolling to prepare for its next use.

While some of these technologies might already be available today, all these futuristic conveniences hinge on electric vehicles perfecting their self-driving capabilities. The LG OMNIPOD does have the option of manual driving, but without the typical steering wheel and controls anyway. It’s not going to replace RVs and cabins on wheels, especially with its lack of bathrooms and kitchens, but LG’s vision of future mobility does interesting points and questions, like how humans of the future might find it harder to be physically social when they don’t even have to step out of their cars most of the time.

This portable lantern hosts a customizable OLED screen that transforms into a projection screen

Rén is a customizable lantern with an integrated OLED screen for users to project whatever moving images or videos they’d like.

Over the past few years, we’ve learned to prioritize what is most important to us. From going to the virtual family reunion to getting creative in the arts, we’re keeping the stuff that matters most to us extra close. Since the pandemic has transformed many of those experiences into digital ones, designers shave been getting creative in making them as large as real life, and sometimes even larger.

Designer: Merve Nur Sökme

Rén, designed by Merve Nur Sökme, was created to immortalize life experiences and make them portable. Designed for LG and Dezeen’s Go Competition for OLED designs, Rén is conceptualized as a multifunctional handheld lantern that can also transform into a large OLED screen that operates just like a projector.

Describing the inspiration behind the product’s name, Nur Sökme explains, “Ren (Chinese: 仁, meaning “co-humanity” or “humaneness”) is the Confucian virtue denoting the good quality of a virtuous human when being altruistic. Ren relies on the understanding of human nature and being.”

In its initial state, Rén is a portable lantern that emits soft, ambient lighting. Ideal for a bedside table or den coffee table, Rén gives off a warm light that seeps through moving images on the product’s OLED screen.

When rolled out, Rén transforms into a projecting screen where users can watch their favorite movies or host virtual Zoom parties. In both of its modes, Rén is what the user makes of it. With its customizable OLED screen, users can decide what they’d like to project to make the lantern feel more like a personal keepsake that they can carry around.

Speaking to Rén’s many functions, Nur Sökme notes, “Besides watching a movie when OLED screen is wide open, when it is rolled it can also be used as a bedside lamp at night, an aquarium, a lava lamp, a screen for recipe tracking in the kitchen. It can be flexible in use as much as the user needs. Its simple design approach gives the user to express her/himself through the Rén.”

LG has always been known to make excellent products. Not every released gadget or appliance sell by the millions, but the South Korean tech company continues to deliver value for the customers. It is living its promise to a shared responsibility to provide minimal impact to the planet by introducing “greener” efforts.

Still following the “Life’s Good when it’s green” motto, LG Electronics has shared additional attempts for a more sustainable future. LG explains how the soundbar lifecycle is made greener. A lot of consumers have become more conscious when it comes to shopping. Some people support brands that deliver sustainability in several ways, from product development to packaging and customer service.

LG has been introducing more environmentally responsible executions. The latest lineup that perfectly shows the brand’s efforts is the line of soundbars, as every development stage is greener. LG says that the product lifecycle of soundbars is more environment-friendly. It starts with choosing the materials, as most are recyclable or have been reused, to actual production that emits less carbon footprint. The soundbars are also designed to use as little power as possible and are packed in eco-friendly boxes.

The fabric of the new LG soundbars is made from recycled plastic bottles. It’s called Polyester Jersey, which is the same material commonly used for athletic apparel. Those soundbars released last year came with a durable casing. As per LG, it uses about 1.5 million 500mm PET bottles each year to develop the said fabric. You call this repurposing, as old products are being repurposed and given a new lease in life. LG will continue to do this as it commits to becoming more sustainable than ever.

The products themselves are also green and environment-friendly. Energy efficiency is the name of the game, and it is demonstrated by the ENERGY STAR certification of LG soundbars. The models that will be released this 2022 will be power-efficient, so expect to see the Energy Star logo on more future products from LG.

Another proof that LG is serious with sustainability is that the LG 2021 soundbars got the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s Product Champion Award. It is a significant award because it only recognizes brands that demonstrate social, economic, and environmental impact according to the Sustainable Materials Management (SMM) Electronics Challenge requirements by the EPA.

Products from last year are already sustainable enough, but the new 2022 LG Soundbar lineup will be better. The soundbars will offer top-notch quality audio services and materials passing the Global Recycled Standard (GRS. Sustainable innovations are not just trends, they are the future, and LG Electronics is at the helm. The company has pledged to protect the environment, and we can witness more of that in future product releases like soundbars, ovens, washing machines, TVs, and other consumer electronics.

LG Modular Spinner speaker brings spatial audio to your home entertainment system for realistic gaming

The LG Module Spinner 1.3 is a modular gaming speaker that brings spatial audio to your household entertainment systems.

Spatial audio is literally a game-changer. When used for gaming, spatial audio makes everything feel a whole lot more realistic. Quest missions that take you down long, dark corridors become that much more ominous when every little sound is intensified and coming at you from every corner.

It’s hard to not feel each and every gory detail of bloody sword duels when spatial audio is making every metallic slash and swish feel like you’re on the battlefield yourself. Bringing the joy of spatial audio to our living room entertainment systems, a team of creatives used the design language of LG to conceptualize their LG Module Spinner 1.3.

Described as a gaming speaker by the team of designers, LG Module SPinner 1.3, “maximizes three-dimensional sound by placing three modular speakers in the room and at the same time provides different sounds depending on the person in the user’s various game environments,” as the designers describe.

When playing video games, all of the sounds of a given environment are compressed into one output that often feels jumbled and overstimulating. Spatial audio differentiates each sound by separating first-person from third-person audio and staggering their delivery for an oscillating effect.

The speakers that comprise the LG Module Spinner 1.3 can be scattered throughout any room or home so that users can control how they receive the audio, making their gaming environment feel more realistic. Designed to adapt to different gaming products, the LG Module Spinner 1.3 hosts a PUI (physical user interface) that’s intuitive and located in an easy-to-reach area on the speaker.

LG Sound View speaker concept gives gamers an audiovisual treat

The home entertainment industry seems to fluctuate between putting emphasis on video and then audio, depending on the trends. Of course, the two are different sides of the same coin, especially when it comes to video games. A lot of focus has been put on monitors and TVs that make game visuals pop, but this soundbar concept prompted by LG Electronics and the Korea Design Membership Plus is a reminder that sound and light both play a critical role in creating an immersive experience.

Soundbars have become trendy these days, designed to complement extremely thin TVs that need to offload their audio to external speakers. Most of these are also designed with minimalist aesthetics that blend into the background, making their presence heard but rarely seen. The Sound View throws most of these conventions out the window to give people’s eyes something new to feast on while playing a game or watching a video.

The Sound View basically includes a visualizer that matches its lighting to the beat of the audio being played through the speakers. Unlike a conventional visualizer, however, the Sound View can adapt its colors to the video that’s being played on a connected TV or monitor. In other words, the colors that you’ll see on Sound View’s face will be in sync with the visuals of the game or video while also taking into account the usual acoustic metrics like volume or pitch.

This creates a new and unique experience that conveys audio in a visual way. It also does so in a way that doesn’t distract from the main visual focus of the experience by matching its colors to that of the TV. That said, the concept also leaves room for the user to customize the visuals to their liking, even if it will clash with the game’s colors.

At the same time, the LG Sound View is also like your typical soundbar, utilizing a mix of steel and fabric materials to give it both structural integrity and an organic appeal. It also has large embossed buttons at the top to make it easy to operate the speaker using only your sense of touch to differentiate each control. Of course, you can presumably also control it from a smartphone app, which is also where you get to pick the color scheme you want to use.

The LG Vision Omnipod concept wants to put the Metaverse inside your Car

Exactly around this time two years back, LG debuted the Connected Car, its attempt at bringing its electronic expertise to the automotive world. A lot has happened since then – the company’s sold rolling TVs and debuted absurdly beautiful dual-screen mobile phones before completely shuttering their smartphone business. At CES 2022, however, LG’s focus lies on the hottest tech trend there is – the metaverse. The LG Vision Omnipod is an expansion of its Connected Car concept, detailing how the interiors of its car hopes to act as “a futuristic cabin that can reconstruct the customer’s space for a range of needs.”

While the images we’re privy to aren’t particularly hi-res (hey LG, how about you build a press kit?), they highlight the aspects that make up the Omnipod’s interiors, tries to deviate entirely from being ‘car-like’. Instead, LG’s vision is that your autonomous car will be your home on wheels, with seats facing each other, appliances like refrigerators built into the interiors, and a sprawling screen on the sides that give you access to immersive entertainment content while your car drives from A to B.

With the Omnipod, the interiors of the car are its main focus. LG highlights that the car’s cabin is a hyper-futuristic space with an adaptive interior that can be reconfigured using the “Meta Environment Screen”. That’s albeit just fancy talk for saying that the car has a massive vertical television inside it which helps alter the mood or theme of the cabin, while also working as an infotainment unit. It also comes with LG’s AI Guide, Reah, a digital (or metaverse) entity that you can interact with to access the car’s wide range of features, both physical and virtual.

LG’s latest indoor gardening appliance stands at 3 feet tall and will automatically grow all your plants for you

Sure, a refrigerator can keep your veggies fresh… but LG’s tiiun can keep it fresher! Designed as a unique home appliance that lets you grow your own herbs and veggies the LG tiiun was announced in the run-up to CES 2022. The indoor gardening appliance is roughly the size of a dorm refrigerator, standing at approximately 3 feet tall, and features two shelves that can accommodate up to 6 all-in-one seed packages and various seed kits.

The term tiiun comes from the Korean word meaning ‘to sprout’ and is LG’s way of indicating that this appliance is an all-in-one self-sufficient garden. The appliance creates a perfect microclimate and all the right conditions for the plants to grow, even mimicking light cycles so you could potentially keep your tiiun anywhere in a room without worrying about access to proper sunlight. LG’s Flexible Weather Control System creates the ideal situations for organic growth while also keeping pests at bay. An internal watering system also delivers water to the plants (8 times a day) to keep them hydrated. All you really have to do is install the tiiun and sit back while your plants grow on their own!

The LG tiiun comes at a time when companies are realizing our push to self-reliance. The pandemic has done its job of exposing the fragile nature of our supply chain, and it’s no surprise that a lot of people are now taking to home and kitchen gardening, while increasingly attempting at making our own food (whether it’s sourdough loaves or banana bread) from scratch. The tiiun encourages that vision by giving you a foolproof way to grow your own veggies and herbs in the comfort of your home without worrying about plant-care.

Some may remember LG’s massive vertical farm from back in January 2020. Occupying the size of a large double-door refrigerator, the vertical farm was merely a starting point for what LG’s offering today with the tiiun. The radically smaller tiiun is perfect for any household, and can sit in a room, doubling as a couchside table that also happens to grow plants within it. Sure, it’s not as bohemian as your ceramic or concrete planter with those lovely indoor plants, but it caters to a different audience. The idea LG is selling is that growing your own greens can be as easy as plugging a device in and hitting the power switch. LG sells all-in-one seed kits that sit in the tiiun’s shelves, and once you’ve put the kits in place and switched the appliance on, the tiiun takes over. “A stylish addition to one’s home or apartment, our smart gardening system makes growing herbs, leafy greens and flowers fun and simple, even for those of us with zero gardening experience”, says Lyu Jae-cheol, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company.
