This smart luggage concept uses technology to make check-in and boarding less stressful

We have already surrendered most of our data to our phones, and it’s time to make good use of that data even without the phone.

When people lose their phones, their feelings of loss and grief are often focused more on the data they lost along with the possession. Not everything can be synced with Google or Apple accounts, and not everyone has the luxury of large cloud backups. These incidents demonstrate how much of our information is stored in our mobile devices and how we’ve become so dependent on them at every turn. We can’t always whip out our phones from our pockets or bags, though, and there might be times when having them always in our hands can be a safety hazard. Sometimes, we need immediate access to information like boarding gates and times, and this design concept argues that a luggage handle is a better tool for that than your smartphone.

Designer: Carlos Bajo

Anyone who has ever traveled long distances would have experienced the problem of not having boarding information handy when and where they need it. Some juggle with paper passes, while others have “upgraded” to storing everything on their smartphones. In both cases, however, people have to use their last remaining free hand because their other hand is already holding their luggage. Even with a smartphone, this situation sounds “old-school” and less than ideal, especially when we have all the technology we need to make it painless.

Oogo is described as a smart hand luggage concept, but in reality, it is the handle alone that really has the brains. It houses a bunch of electronics such as Bluetooth, RFID, and a screen that makes the transfer and display of data effortless. The idea is that you no longer need to even pull out your phone to pass through checkpoints or remind yourself of your boarding details. All you need is to press that button on Oogo’s handle.

The smartphone still plays an important role here, of course. During your travel prep, you input all the usual documents and information you’ll need at the airport or terminal into your smartphone and then share them with Oogo. When it comes time to check-in or board, you can simply tap Oogo’s handle on a designated receptor to share encrypted data like your passport information and even your COVID-19 pass. The fingerprint scanner on the button lets you authenticate your identity, removing the need for an ID check.

Of course, this would only work if there were systems in place for verifying this data, but we might not be that far off considering how everything is connected these days almost to a frightening degree. With many bags already sporting trackers these days, a smart luggage handle could be the next thing. Best of all, Oogo is designed to blend seamlessly with other travel luggage, looking beautiful with its minimalist yet distinctive design. It proves that “hi-tech” doesn’t need to be showy or “in your face” to work its magic, and, in fact, the best magic tricks are the ones that keep their secrets hidden in plain sight.

Neo-Primitive Chair proves nature and artifacts can coexist in harmony

RIMOWA Lee Sisan Neo-primitive

Through the decades, Rimowa has released very distinctive luggage and bag designs, most of which are much-coveted among social media and travel influencers. The famous luggage maker has been seen collaborating with luxury brands, artists, and designers to release interesting pieces and it’s not stopping anytime soon. We have spotted a few memorable ones and even those inspired designs that can be a perfect alternative because Rimowa isn’t exactly cheap. While the most successful collaborations are all with sports or fashion brands like Supreme, Off-White, Anti Social Social Club, and BAPE, there are also a few quieter collabs like this one with Sisan Lee, a South Korean designer and artist who is bent on exploring the relationship between humans, nature, and artifact. Lee believes objects can co-exist with nature in harmony, so he works with different materials to deliver unique items with functions that people can use and enjoy.

Designer: Sisan Lee

RIMOWA Lee Sisan Neo-primitive Aluminum Chair Exhibit

Sisan Lee has teamed up with premium-quality luggage brand Rimowa for a collaboration that was meant to be showcased at the “As Seen by” exhibit in South Korea. The designer utilized Rimowa’s very own grooved aluminum sheets, the same ones used on the brand’s prized carrier luggage pieces. He also thought of using tree branches and then transforming them into aluminum using sand casting–resulting in a luxuriously-styled chair that will probably make you remember you’re not yet traveling as you used to.

RIMOWA Lee Sisan Neo-primitive Aluminum Chair Components

These aluminum branches act as legs and support for the thin aluminum backrest, whose design is the pattern for the luggage cover. It’s actually the cutout of the main form of the luggage before assembly, while another sheet of aluminum is also used for the seat and then combined with other sheets by bolts. The aluminum chair stands tall with a silver finish, looking like another expensive furniture item to behold and cherish.

RIMOWA Lee Sisan Neo-primitive Aluminum Chair Design

Artifact (aluminum) and nature (branches) are blended to prove that harmony can create a stunning piece of functional art. The effect is a mysterious atmosphere of two different materials and components, forming an alluring object you can’t ignore. The choice of aluminum makes the chair sturdy and durable even if it looks sleek and fragile with very thin materials. It may look brittle, but like the famous Rimowa luggage series, the Neo-Primitive Chair is made with strength and solidity. This thing measures W410 x D 520 x H 1800cm and is ready to look pretty and perfect in your industrial-style home.

This Neo-Primitive Chair is considered an organic piece of furniture as it brings together nature and manufactured articles. The cast aluminum branches offer strength, support, and stability for anyone who dares to sit on the aluminum throne. The name Neo-Primitive is a perfect description for this piece that gives old materials a new lease in life.

Lego-inspired suitcase is ready to roll and be stacked like real bricks

LEGO Luggage Features

Most of us may not be traveling yet the way we did during the pre-pandemic, but many have courageously started booking flights and flying to different destinations. It’s as if people are doing revenge travel after two years of not being able to do so. I haven’t but I might soon and I need to shop for a new suitcase.

If you’re planning on finally going out of town, you may need to prepare for your first trip. Make sure it’s a big one because you deserve to be out and about. It may be time to shop for new stuff, and you may start with getting a new luggage because you deserve all the cool things in life.

Designer: Liam de la Bedoyere

LEGO Luggage 2

Liam de la Bedoyere designed a suitcase that can be stacked like legos. It really looks like a lego brick, complete with a pair of tubes on one side and six studs. There is a handle on the right and another one on top.

The designer is head of design for Dalebrook Supplies in the UK. His works vary, but we mostly use everyday objects at home like a bread bin, water dispenser, drill organizer, and a pizza-making kit. We won’t forget his Nintendo Joy-Cam, which definitely made an impression even if it’s just a concept. The latest is the lego luggage that was also rendered in blue and gray, stacked together. This reminds us very much of the Room Copenhagen x Lego collaboration.

LEGO Luggage Concept

This concept luggage design is perfect for Lego fans and the child-at-heart. We won’t stop you from using it as storage for your lego brings, but it will be much cooler if used for travel. Imagine the stares you will be getting from the parents and the kids when you are at the airport.

Liam de la Bedoyere, aka Bored Eye Design on Instagram, said he created this when he was bored. Well, it doesn’t matter when this was imagined. We just love the design as it takes us back to our childhood. We’re certain others have also thought about such a design, but Liam knows how to make it more fun and attractive.

Other attractive luggage designs have been featured here like the Lulley luggage and the bubble-wrap-inspired luggage from Rimowa and Running Guy Studio. The Bungalow Luggage can be the perfect outdoor companion. We also won’t forget that NASA-level luggage Elon Musk must consider.

Adaptable Onli Travel Revolution Modular Bag System – Helps Relieve the Stress of Travel

Never lose your cool again while traveling with this flexible bag system, which lets you be the boss of your stuff, not the other way around! It’s a modular 3-part bag that adapts on the fly to the challenges travel throws at you.

Even the most relaxing vacation travel can get stressful hours or even days before leaving, all because of having to prepare for spending time away from the comforts of home. In addition to trying to figure out how much or how little to bring, travelers also have to take into account the kind of bag to use for the trip. Whether it’s a long vacation out of town or a simple trip back home for Thanksgiving, people tend to carry different bags for different occasions. And that’s not even considering the traveling you’ll be doing around your destination. If you find yourself pulling your hair out over all these considerations, then you might want to consider getting this three-part modular four-wheel spinner/backpack system, which covers all your travel bag needs, whether you need a larger suitcase to roll around or a slim backpack to carry for shorter trips or around town.

We need a suitcase when traveling for more than a few days, but we often also need a smaller bag for shorter trips during that period. Sometimes, however, we just need a weekender to get us through a couple of days away, plus a laptop bag to work at a cafe or even at a park. The most obvious solution to this would be to have a bag for each of those cases, but that only multiplies your problems rather than reduces them. What if you had, instead, a single bag that catered to all those needs? Or better yet, what if you had a set of bags that functioned as a whole or separately, depending on what you needed?

Building on its successful initial product in 2019, Onli Travel is now bringing forth its new Revolution Rolling Pack to deliver that solution. Just like its predecessor, the system is composed of three modular bags that you can combine together in different ways or use apart as the case warrants. All three together make up a large suitcase that you can roll or carry as a backpack, but the front Messenger Tote Pack and the rear Expandable Daypack can also be detached and used separately or combined and expanded into a larger Weekender backpack for shorter periods of time away from home.

Those aren’t the only features this system has, of course. A notable upgrade is the change from a two-wheel roller-board to a four-wheel “spinner,” making it effortless to pull or push the luggage in any direction (including sideways down airplane aisles). When space constraints require it, you can easily collapse the telescopic handle and throw the luggage on your back as well, as it also works as a travel backpack.

If there’s not enough space on the airplane, you can take the modules apart so that they can fit in tighter spaces in the overhead. (The front unit has even been designed to strap to the tray on the seat in front of you, converting to an in-flight workstation to make your time in the middle seat tolerable!) And, of course, there’s an array of perfectly thought out pockets and compartments to help you ergonomically organize anything and everything you need for quick access while you travel.

Left: Messenger Tote Pack. Right: Expandable Daypack.

Each part of the Travel Revolution system is specially designed for different travel scenarios or to solve problems encountered while traveling. The four-wheel Expandable Spinner, for example, can expand to accommodate more stuff if you buy things on your trip and has side pockets to stash an umbrella or water bottle; the Expandable Daypack opens flat for easier inspection at security checkpoints and allows you to access contents easily like a suitcase; And the Messenger Tote Pack can be worn as a tote, messenger bag, or backpack, and has room for both a 17-inch laptop and a tablet. With the Onli Travel Revolution, you finally have a bag that adapts to fit your travel needs and reduces the stress of travel.

Even the Onli 8-cube packing cube system helps – in addition to anticipating what you need to bring, Onli designed it to perfectly fit the bag and utilize the space, so you don’t have to worry about whether it will fit!

According to Onli Travel, the future of luggage is modular. After looking at this design, let the modular revolution begin!

This sturdy luggage morphs into an attractive trolley for dual functionality when not traveling

How about getting a piece of luggage that converts into a trolley in the blink of an eye? A dual utility product that intends to serve all the avid travelers during their trips, and sits confidentially in the hallway as an attractive trolley.

For travel, most of us prefer the safety of a piece of luggage, as it keeps all the clothes and other stuff in an organized manner. But when not traveling what do we do with the sturdy luggage? We keep it in the basement store or tucked away in some corner of the garage. So why not make use of the luggage for something novel when not traveling? Something that goes seamlessly with the home interiors? You know where I’m heading, right?

Designers: Junsik Oh, Chaewon Lee and eunbin Kim

After having a vacation, it would be great if the luggage could be converted into an attractive trolley to keep mementos, desk clock, family frames, or even books. That’s exactly what the Lulley luggage is about. It doubles as trolley storage for modern homes in the most enticing manner possible. According to the brainchild of the concept, the imagined product fills the usability gap by combining the function of a trolley with luggage. The idea is to make judicious use of a suitcase that’ll otherwise be out of sight when not needed. The frequency of use of luggage is very less, and it ends takes up space unnecessarily in your home.

Lulley takes advantage of the form factor similarity between luggage and trolley – therefore it doesn’t deviate much from the user’s experience of using the product. When not being used as luggage, Lulley can be dissembled into two halves by disengaging the locks. Thereafter, the shelves can be easily slid into the empty space to morph into a trolley. Both the halves of the luggage attach to each other in an open configuration to create a dual-sided trolley to store more than you would have bargained for!

The designers have managed to propose a design that looks highly practical, something that most of us would actually want for its multiple uses. This makes even more sense for small urban spaces where smart use of stuff is most valued. Converting luggage into a beautiful trolley seems like a good prospect for times where mindful and minimalist living is valued.

Hot Wheels Car Rolling Suitcase Is Road Trip Ready

Because why not get your child actually excited to pack and tote their luggage around on vacation, MaxToy teamed up with Mattel to create this officially licensed Hot Wheels Night Shifter rolling suitcase (affiliate link). The case features a hard shell in the form of a Hot Wheels car, complete with wheels, exposed engine, and – what are those coming out the back – jet engines?

The suitcase also has a durable aluminum frame, retractable handle, and 3-wheel rollers so kids can push or pull the bag with ease, even over curbs or up stairs. That’s a good thing, too, because I’m not pulling my children’s luggage for them. They didn’t even offer to chip in to help pay for this vacation!

Honestly, I kind of want one for myself. Sure, it’s children’s sized, but I pack light for vacation anyways. I usually just bring enough underwear for ten days and buy any other clothes I need when I get where I’m going. What can I say? I’m a carefree spirit. Hey, can I borrow a clean shirt?

This bubble-wrap inspired semi-translucent luggage is easy-to-spot and carry

In a world where the brand Rimowa is very popular among travel influencers, it may be time for us to look for an alternative. It’s not the only brand in the world. And no, we’re not getting any monogrammed trunk from another luxury fashion house.

Running Guy Studio is offering something new and different. From the same team that introduced the Air Type Keyboard a few weeks ago, here comes a new suitcase that will already come with bubble wrap-like protection. It’s not just another design that should remain an idea. We think this one should go into production. And if it does, we know it will quickly fly off the shelves.

Designer: Running Guy Studio

The Running Guy luggage is made of plastic shell. The translucent design comes from the bubble wrap idea. It doesn’t just show what’s inside but also protects everything in it. Like any bubble-wrapped item, your stuff can be well-protected.

The hard case is polycarbonate which is now a common material used for luggage. The overall look and feel of the Running Guy luggage are edgy. It’s not totally loud as your things are kept slightly covered but the design is one of a kind. Heads will definitely turn if they see you with this at the airport or rolling down the aisle of the plane.

The Running Guy Semi-Translucent Luggage Where to Buy

The bubble wrap inspiration translates to the kind of protection it offers. The aluminum hardware found in the corners and edges provides a rugged but classy look. Running Guy Studios’ design philosophy can be sometimes irrational but not this one.

The Running Guy Semi-Translucent Luggage Details

As an experience studio, the Running Guy Studio aims to make experiences real. There are reasons why a product design is such. It often answers the needs of the consumers. With this luggage, our demands to have an easy-to-spot and durable piece are answered. A metal version is also ready for those who don’t want others to see what’s inside their suitcase.

The life of a jet setter is something we may not freely live these days but no one’s stopping us to dream. And here we are dreaming and living vicariously with all these product ideas and concept designs. When the pandemic is over and tourism will be fully open as before, we’ll be ready with this translucent luggage from Running Guy.

Designed for National Geographic, this collapsible camping furniture that fits in a suitcase is your perfect outdoor companion!

There are many types of campers and camping regimes. Some travel with friends and family to the remotest wilderness and others like to drive their RV and park at a nice spot with a view. In both cases, at the end of the day, one desires a nice chair to sit on and a decent table to serve up the meal. This is where the portable and convenient Bungalow Luggage for National Geographic comes to the fore.

Whether you’re backpacking, planning on fishing, or just want to spend time at the lake, a foldable and easy-to-carry furniture is definitely going to be on your top priority list. A collapsible furniture range that is relatively luxurious, ultra-lightweight, and packs up into a travel trolley you can tote after you; the Bungalow Luggage by designer Eunsol Lee sets a stage for unique camping experiences.

There is no dearth of foldable camping chairs and tables out there. You could even pick a set of table and chairs off the shelf but this idea of a portable furniture set has its own merits. Unlike the other metal rod collapsible furniture for the outdoor, this one designed for National Geographic is convenient to transport. Just fold up the two chairs and the table into their bags and the trio sits evenly inside a suitcase you can lug along. This ease of portability also comes in handy when you want to fit the furniture in the boot of the car.

Packed in a travel trolley-style sturdy case with four wheels, you get a pair of chairs and a table with a foldable top. The collapsible frame, seat, and backrest form the chair, while the metal spokes aligned as hollow table legs become the base for a wooden plank tabletop. The chairs have a nice canvas seat and the table seems pretty robust; together the furniture outside your camp will become your closest confidant in comfort!

Richard Branson, Elon Musk and Jeff Besoz need to get their hands on this space-friendly luggage!

Space tourism is currently a race and a status symbol amongst billionaires but it won’t be long before it becomes the next big travel trend…of course, the ticket costs will be out of this world for most of us, but we can still get the appropriate luggage and daydream! Astroneer is luggage designed keeping in mind the possibility of space travel becoming a popular ‘exotic’ destination in the future. Even if you aren’t going to space, the way bags are handled at the airport might make this NASA-level luggage an investment worth considering.

Travelling in zero gravity at insanely fast speeds already induces so many changes in our bodies despite training and protective suits – can you imagine what would happen to the belongings in your bag? Exoplanet exploration requires luggage that can survive with you. “We didn’t want future travellers to carry a crumpled carrier, with harsh conditions, rugged terrain and differential atmospheric pressure,” said the designer duo and made sure that Astroneer is modular and has no volume constraints – once again, something we on Earth could also use. Astroneer comes with bags of different sizes that can all compactly be packed into one unit. It also has increased liquidity in the environment with the suspension of wheels so that you don’t have to carry your bags even though they might be lighter in outer space, roll with it…literally. The CMF is carefully chosen for the concept to provide visibility in an environment where it is difficult to check the contents inside by giving electric signals to the glass which lets you adjust the transparency of the luggage – this might just be my most favorite feature yet. It also has internal environmental controls to protect your belongings!

So while Richard Branson went to space, he certainly missed out on having the coolest suitcase at baggage claim. Maybe by the time its our turn to take off, we can get an Astroneer in custom colors!

This modern suitcase comes with a detachable compartment for easy access while travelling!

You know how people browse apartments when they are bored? Well, after being stuck in the apartment for over a year I have actually started passionately looking for innovative suitcase designs instead. While traveling isn’t fully open to everyone yet, I can dream while thinking about how I will overpack in the Maziti suitcase!

Maziti is a modern, minimal and sleek luggage that will put those LV trunks to shame with its aesthetic. The large suitcase has a unique feature, its bold-colored removable compartment for items you would like to access and find easily. Maziti is a useful addition to your traveling essentials and solves the big inconvenience of having to open up a whole tightly packed suitcase to find individual items like a passport, sunglasses, or headphones buried deep in a pile of clothes that we all know will not go back the same way once it is open. It also features a sleek branded strap to keep it together and features a lockable compartment to keep the contents secure.

The bright pop of color of the detachable compartment gives the suitcase its own distinct and playful personality. Maziti’s design is equal parts cool and functional making it the perfect luggage to tag along on your next adventure!
