Star Trek Shuttle Pinball Coffee Table: Where All Nouns Have Gone Before

You may remember Altar Furniture from its awesome R2-D2 pinball coffee table. Trekkies who are also pinball fans will be delighted to know that the company has something for them as well.

The beautiful Shuttle Interactive Coffee Table is designed to look like Star Trek‘s shuttlecraft. Inside it is a 1991 Data East Star Trek pinball playfield that you can mess with using custom made electronic controls. As if that wasn’t awesome enough, the front of the table is decorated with dilithium crystals, while actual meteorites are stored and labeled in its rear compartment.

Altar will gladly make the Shuttle for anyone with $15,000 (USD) to spare.

Flippaper Turns Drawings into Virtual Pinball Playfields: Tilt A Sketch

There are several applications that let you make digital pinball machines, but perhaps none of them are as easy and quirky as the Flippaper. Made by arists Jérémie Cortial and Roman Miletitch, this pinball machine makes you draw the playing field.

flippaper_sketch_pinball_by_Jeremie_Cortial_and_Roman_Miletitch_1zoom in

You draw the playing field on paper on top of Flippaper’s screen, which has a clip to hold the paper. The machine then uses simple rules based on color and shape to determine how the resulting playing field looks and behaves. For instance, you draw a blue dot to make a flipper, while green lines turn into paths that speed up the virtual ball. You can even modify your playing field on the fly.

Contact Jérémie and Roman to commission a Flippaper. The cost is available upon request, which means it’s going to be expensive. But hey, so are real pinball machines, so I bet the artists will sell a couple of units.

The nostalgic joy of playing ‘Pinball FX2’ in VR

I associate pinball with family, partly because my father convinced me it was cool when I was a kid, just like he did with The X-Files, Mystery Science Theater 3000, ping pong and a handful of other quasi-nerdy necessities from the '80s and '90s. Plu...

The Premium and Limited Editions also have lots of extra features, the main one being the holographic “Ecto Goggles” feature. Using an LCD, a reflecting system and sensors, you’ll be able to “hit” projections of ghosts such as The Librarian and the Scolari Brothers. The only difference between the Premium and Limited Edition is that the latter has a Slimer-themed backbox and cabinet art. The Premium Edition on the other hand has Stay Puft-themed art that’s a bit different than the ones on the Pro Edition.

Custom The Goonies Pinball Machine: Goonies Never Say Drain!

Mike Johnson is a fan of The Goonies, and a fan of pinball machines. So naturally he wanted a Goonies themed pinball machine. So to celebrate the movie’s 30th anniversary, he made this custom made pinball machine. The only known Goonies pinball machine that exists.

the_goonies_pinball_machine_1zoom in

Mike loaded this machine with all kinds of impressive details. From the skull-shaped plunger, to the cave, to the sound effects and music from the movie, it’s truly impressive. As a pinball fan myself I can say that it is a true work of art. He modded an existing Hollywood Heat machine and totally revamped the theme.

After it was finished it let others play it at a Goonies themed art show at the BART brew gallery in Orlando, Florida, where a custom-built Goonies arcade cabinet was also on display:

I wish I was in Mike’s area so I could play his machine. He did an amazing job.

R2-D2 Coffee Table/Pinball Machine

This amazing R2-D2 coffee table features the guts from a Star Wars pinball machine from 1991. It features external lights and R2 sound effects too. There’s also a light that resembles Artoo’s holographic projector.

r2_d2_pinball_machine_1zoom in

Basically it is the best coffee table ever. It was made by ALTAR Furniture, a company that specializes in taking old pinball machines and putting them inside coffee tables. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like it’s playable any more, but it still looks amazing.

Sadly, it is outside of my budget at $13,000(USD). I can only afford the R5-D4 unit with the bad motivator. Damn Jawas.

If you have the cash, this is obviously the droid you have been looking for.

These Miniature Pinball Machines Are Adorable

Even though I would love to, I am not rich enough to have a fleet of pinball machines in my home. However, thanks to Etsy artist PinballArcade, I can have some cool miniatures on my desk. These 1/12th scale models look amazing, standing just 6″ tall.

I not only love playing pinball, I love the art and design of these machines, which is all here, with some really nice details. Each one is handcrafted from wood with gloss decals and metallic finish legs.
