Tesla granted tariff exemption on Japanese aluminum for battery cells

Tesla has won an exemption from paying the 10 percent tariffs placed on imported aluminum from Japan. It filed a request with the Commerce Department in April for a tariff exclusion on 10 million kilograms of the metal per year from Nippon Light Meta...

Here’s an iMac stand that’s well worth its price tag!

Much more in tune with the needs of the general masses, the Monitormate ProBASE X comes with the kind of functionality one would need from a laptop/monitor stand, with a price tag that’s definitely public-friendly!

The ProBASE X is the latest stand to escape the minds of Monitormate. Designed to do more than just elevate your laptop or desktop display, the ProBASE X puts power at your fingertips by housing multiple ports that help unlock your machine’s true potential, while boasting of a price tag that’s about the same as a pair of AirPods. On the right of the ProBASE X lie a hub of ports, including two USB ports, a fast-charging 18W USB-C port for your phone, an Ethernet port to boost your internet speed, and not one, but two card readers (one SD and one MicroSD) to help bridge the gap between multiple devices.

The ProBASE X plugs directly into a power supply, and connects to your machine via a USB3.0 port, located on the underside of the stand. Its multi-port setup works well with desktops by putting ports where they’re easy to access, and with laptops that have a shortage of ports to begin with. The stand even packs a sliding tray on the left for storing various desktop accessories like thumb-drives, dongles, etc!

Pairing perfectly with the tech that rests upon it, the ProBASE X is sleek, and comes with a robust machined-aluminum construction. Elevating your laptop or monitor by as much as 9 inches, the stand helps you look at your screen at a much more natural angle, preventing fatigue and neck-aches from long work-hours. Besides, the space underneath the ProBASE X is useful real-estate too, allowing you to slide your keyboard and mouse underneath it when you’re done, leaving your workspace neat and clean!

Deskape’s minimal desk organizers pair perfectly with your anodized-aluminum tech

Little did Jobs know how much a simple material choice for a smartphone would spawn an entire era of metallurgy, perhaps comparable to the Bronze Age. Aluminum, the most abundant metal on Earth, can be found practically everywhere. It’s used in furniture, in construction, in food-packaging, and in consumer electronics, arguably by the tonne. Deskape’s hope is to seamlessly complement the use of aluminum in consumer electronics, by creating a series of incredibly classy and minimalist desk organizers, designed to uplift the workspace, and unite it in the appreciation of Aluminum.

Designed as a set (but also available individually exclusively for Kickstarter backers), the Deskape series comprises a cable organizer, pen-stand, card-holder, and a paperweight tray. Designed with a minimal aesthetic, featuring simple cross-sections that make the products look like they’ve been extruded in their shape, each product serves two purposes. One, the purpose given to it, i.e., being a pen-stand, or organizing your charging cables and wires, and Two, matching the metallic appeal of your workspace, with your laptop, external keyboard, trackpad, etc. Deskape’s products are all about bringing both functionality and elegance to your work-area, with the added flair of being so exquisite looking that people are sure to take a second and third look… quite like the way Jobs had anticipated people would react looking at his aluminum-made, sleek, perfection-chasing Apple products!

The Best Nixie Tube Watch Ever

The first time I saw a nixie tube watch was more than a decade ago. I thought the idea was pretty rad, but to be honest, I don’t think the design of the watch lived up to the nixie tubes themselves. I also thought the two digit display was a bit difficult to use as a practical timepiece. While it’s much more expensive, this nixie watch solves both of those problems.

Designed and created by Trento, Italy based Nixie Horizonte, this gorgeous timepiece features a body milled from a block of aluminum and brass. It’s got four mini nixie tubes, so it can display the complete time in either 12- or 24-hour format. It also has a built in accelerometer which it uses to detect when you turn your wrist, as well as a temperature sensor.

Those LED accent lights can be configured into any of 512 different colors (or deactivated entirely), and the tubes offer 7 brightness level settings. It’s charged by placing it on the included wooden docking station, and can run for 2 to 3 weeks between charges in accelerometer mode, or about a month if you don’t mind manually activating it.

It’s a truly stunning piece of design and engineering, and I’d absolutely throw my Apple Watch out tomorrow if I could have one of these instead. Each Nixie Horizonte watch is custom built to order, and sells for about $850 over on Etsy.

Deal: Save 20% on the Bundeze Bandit Multi-Tool Wallet

While I’m personally not a huge fan of minimal wallets, I have to say I dig the idea of the Bundeze Bandit wallet. That’s because its design serves more purposes than just slimming down – it puts a portable tool kit in your pocket whenever and wherever you go.

The durable anodized aluminum card holds up to 8 cards or 30 bills in place using a stretchy elastic cord, but when you remove it, you’ll find that the card has a variety of wrenches, and holders for 1/4″ drivers built in. It even comes with a bit for driving phillips and flat-blade screws.

This makes it super versatile, and gives you an emergency tool that’s ready at a moment’s notice. In addition, the card has a built-in bottle opener, which I’m sure will come in handy within days of buying one of these.

Best of all, the Bundeze Bandit wallet isn’t expensive. You can grab one over at the Technabob Shop for just $19.99(USD) – a $5 savings off the regular price.
