This playful dog-inspired decorative lamp puts the ‘light’ in light-hearted!

Part lamp part adorable tabletop sculpture, the Playful Dog X Lamp is emotional design at its best! Lamps are mainly utilitarian, sometimes they’re decorative, sometimes they’re IoT-connected, but the Playful Dog X Lamp is just straight-up adorable! Designed to look like a dog playing with a ball, the lamp features a sculpture of a canine that’s got the lamp’s glowing orb in its mouth. Whether switched on or off, the Playful Dog X Lamp is made to delight with its inventive fun approach to lighting design. In fact, some 90’s kids would also call this design rather ‘fetch’!

“Having a naturally playful dog can definitely add color into your life and give you a lot of joy and fun”, say the designers at Taipei-based haoshi design. “The Playful Dog Lamp from haoshi applies the interesting design of the dog biting the ball, which allows the people’s focus on the ray of light. No matter you leave the house or arrive home, it always gives you a knowing smile to the partner.”

Visually, the lamp can be split into its two parts. The light and the base, if you want to call it that. The light assumes the shape of a translucent ball with an LED lamp inside it, while the fixture sits snugly within the mouth of a Shiba Inu in the downward dog position, making it look like the dog’s playfully biting the lamp. Like all of haoshi’s pieces, the animal is in pure white, giving it a classic appeal that allows it to easily fit into most decor, adding a detailed sculptural accent piece to even minimalist homes!

The dog part of the lamp comes crafted from resin, giving it that incredible detail that you wouldn’t get in injection molding, and that would take practically forever with 3D printing.

Designed to be placed anywhere, the Playful Dog X Lamp can be positioned on shelves, tables, or even the floor (provided you don’t have an actual dog who’d get excited at the sight of it). The lamp measures roughly over a foot in length and just about 10 inches in height, and weighs a hefty 2.5 kilos or 5.5 pounds, given that it’s cast from resin. It comes with a warm-white E14 LED light on the inside.

In the same vein as the previously posted wooden t-rex desk lamp comes this posable wooden dog lamp available from Firebox. Will my dogs get jealous and destroy it? It wouldn’t be the first time they’ve destroyed a lamp; they’re animals. Literally – they’re dogs, and I love them dearly despite their many, MANY flaws.

The top of the dog’s head is touch-sensitive for turning the lamp on and off, and it features three lighting modes and a dimmer switch so your new pet lamp can provide the perfect brightness provided by an energy-efficient LED bulb. Inspired by a dog who couldn’t run for over seven years due to a missing leg, Printthinks committed to research and design study periods that led to the creation of their 3D-printed prosthesis prototype. Printed from a material called PETG and solely recycled materials, Printthinks created a solution that’s both eco-conscious and pet-friendly. While everyone wants their products to look good, thoughtful design boils down to the tangible contributions it brings to the world. In designing their dog-friendly prosthesis, Printthinks set out to change the life of a dog who couldn’t run, let alone walk, for over seven years. Once the initial prosthesis prototype was printed, Printthinks saw their contribution running on all four legs and looking good while doing it.

6. Mopet

Mopet was primarily designed as a means for city residents to bring along their little pups on trips that would be too far for smaller dogs. Since safety is the number one priority when considering modes of pet-friendly transportation, Mopet is equipped with plenty of safety features. Users can turn on the e-bike’s high beam LEDs when riding at night to make their e-bike and little dog visible to oncoming traffic. Whether their city is going through its annual summer heatwave or their dog is too tired to keep walking, Mopet is outfitted with a large-capacity battery that allows travel for 60km with a full charge.

7. Pupsule

The Pupsule’s name sort of perfectly encapsulates exactly what the product is. Designed like a capsule for your pup, the tiny contraption is perfectly small enough to carry with you on your pet walks. The patent-pending Pupsule comes with a two-part design – an upper half that houses empty plastic bags and a plunger, while the lower half has a 360° grabber arm (controlled by the plunger) and a smell-proof leak-proof area to store the poo until you need to dispose of it.

8. A chair made for needy pets

In her uploaded YouTube video, A chair made for needy pets Giertz takes us through the construction of both the chair’s initial prototype and its final form. Using Fusion 360, Giertz created a 3D model of the pet chair. The model features an enclosed crate, the main dog door, footrest, stairs, and roof to also work as Giertz’s seat. Employing CNC milling to construct the chair’s top seat and roof, sidewalls, stairs, and front entryway, Giertz cut vertical ridges along the sidewalls to bend them around the radius of the chair. After mounting the pieces of plywood together to form the prototype’s planned structure, Giertz uses screws to attach them, but the finished prototype saw some improvements. Giertz turned to CNC milling to construct the chair’s bottom piece, this time formed in two sections to fit onto the CNC bed. On top of the chair’s joined bottom piece, the rest of the CNC-milled pieces of plywood came together. To help Scraps move up and down the chair’s steps with more confidence, Giertz narrowed the distance between the steps and added a railing system to border the chair’s stairs, main seat, and roof.

9. The Playground

The Playground is a doghouse that also alternates as a modular sofa! The various modules of the sofa can be arranged creating not only different sofa designs but also fun spaces wherein your doggo can hop, bounce and play about! The wooden doghouse on one side of the furniture piece seems super comfy and adorable! A little hole on its roof, allows your dog to pop his head out of the doghouse, and connect/interact with you while you lounge about on the sofa. It’s the perfect way to spend quality time! Xiao designed Playground, especially for millennial pet owners. The designer kept in mind that the homes of millennials often have space constraints, and nor do they have much free time on their hand. Hence, Playground is extremely easy to put together, and will not occupy much space in our modern-day cramped apartments. Since Playground was created for young target customers, Xiao tried to give it a trendy and cool appearance! Bright colors, minimal woodwork, and a little plant give the furniture design a modern appeal.

10. The Joyda Muzzle

The Joyda muzzle presents a more subtle, comfortable alternative to existing products. Instead of following a common muzzle design, which essentially looks like a cage over the dog’s mouth, the Joyda uses a light strip of fabric around the snout. For the most part, the Joyda muzzle hangs loosely, not restricting the dog’s mouth at all. The strap will only tighten when it senses a potential attack. How can the Joyda tell? Well, the muzzle comes with a sensor that clips onto the dog’s collar. If the monitor notices a change in heart rate or other signs that might indicate aggression, it will send a signal to the muzzle and tighten around the dog’s snout until the perceived threat passes.

This dog-friendly prosthesis prototype was 3D-printed and designed for a dog who previously couldn’t run for over seven years.

While dogs are some of the most resilient and adaptable creatures around, human-designed products aid them through life challenges like arthritis and missing limbs. When joints and ligaments break down in humans, we have braces and slings that can be picked up from our local pharmacy, making the day-to-day a little easier. Bringing that medical attention into the realm of doggos, Printthinks designed and 3D-printed two prototypes of prostheses for dogs who might need some extra help walking and running.





 

Inspired by a dog who couldn’t run for over seven years due to a missing leg, Printthinks committed to research and design study periods that led to the creation of their 3D-printed prosthesis prototype. Printed from a material called PETG and solely recycled materials, Printthinks created a solution that’s both eco-conscious and pet-friendly.

The sole, for instance, is cut and printed from a recycled bicycle wheel, guaranteeing maximum grip and secure footing. Describing the print process and the materials used during it, Printthinks notes, “The piece is printed on an Ultimate3 at a layer height of 0.3 mm and the other materials are nylon, rubber, and sewing thread.”

While everyone wants their products to look good, thoughtful design boils down to the tangible contributions it brings to the world. Mopet is a pet-friendly e-scooter with an integrated storage compartment so small dogs can come along with you on rides in a secure crate.

There aren’t many options for dog owners to get around cities with their little pup in tow. Resolving to pulling their dogs on leashes or stowing smaller pups inside bicycle baskets, the options are either inconvenient or unsafe. Providing a solution for dog owners to crate their dogs around with them, Mopet is an electric scooter design that integrates a spacious and secure storage compartment where owners can keep their dogs while they scoot around from place to place.

Mopet was primarily designed as a means for city residents to bring along their little pups on trips that would be too far for smaller dogs. Since safety is the number one priority when considering modes of pet-friendly transportation, Mopet is equipped with plenty of safety features. Amazon just launched a (slightly) creepy Home Robot that can follow you around your house and responds to voice commands

Earlier today at Amazon’s hardware event, the company launched a whole slew of products including upgraded Echo devices, Ring doorbells, a fitness tracker, and even a thermostat… although one product immediately stood out – Amazon’s $1000 home robot named Astro.

Modeled as a WALL-E-ish robot with dog-like proportions, the Astro can follow you around the house, respond to your voice commands, allow you to video-chat with friends and family, and even monitor your house while you’re asleep or away, tying in with their Ring video doorbell’s alert services. The robot sports a large screen for a face (with ring-shaped emotive eyes), runs on wheels (so it can’t climb stairs for now), and even comes with two nifty little cup-holders built into its rear so it can carry your water, coffee, soda, or beer around, being an attentive little butler-dog-sentinel that’s designed to be cute and approachable… unless you’re an intruder, of course.

The Astro works quite like the way your Roomba does. Multiple cameras around its base let the Astro map out your home, while a camera module on its head sits on an expanding periscope mount, allowing the Astro to see you at eye level, look above counters/furniture, and just get a better vantage point for its security systems. It stands roughly two feet high, weighs about 20 pounds, and comes with a battery docking system where it automatically goes to recharge. The tiny little robot responds to voice commands just like your smart speaker would. It ties in a bunch of Amazon services – you can video-chat through it, remotely monitor your home, ask it to follow you around, to dance to music, and even to fetch you stuff from the other room (although someone will have to physically put items in the Astro’s cup holder). Given that it can’t navigate stairs, Amazon expects you to set up Astro in the main living area, where it’ll be needed most – and where it can surveil and safeguard your entire house against intruders. You can set up specific “viewpoints” around your house and label rooms so Astro understands commands that tell it to go to specific locations. On-board cameras even come with facial recognition, allowing the Astro to differentiate between residents, visitors, and trespassers.

It’s long been rumored that Amazon was working on a home robot that would extend the capabilities of Alexa and Amazon’s other services. Tech journalists were quick to warn that it would just give Amazon yet another opportunity to monitor your home, going beyond just audio and video recordings. The Astro can move around your house, practically mapping your interiors to create a precise 3D model of your home – data that could be extremely valuable to the company in the future. People can be pretty quick to surrender their privacy and freedoms in the face of convenience, which is what makes the Astro such an interesting product to debate about. Sure, it’s modeled like a dog, sure it serves you with a whole slew of useful services and features… but who’s the real owner here? For $1000 you probably own the robot, but you surely don’t own any of the data the robot collects. In this seemingly uncomplicated equation, you’re not really the master… Amazon is.

The Astro is currently available as an invite-based limited release as the company tests the waters. Amazon claims Astro will be extremely helpful to people who rely on Amazon’s ecosystem of products and services, as well as the elderly and disabled. I, personally, have my doubts given Amazon’s relatively cavalier attitude towards complete user privacy and its history of sharing data with third parties, the police, and even government agencies.

Want something that looks cute, responds to voice commands, and can monitor your house at all times? Adopt a dog instead. At least it won’t upload your data to Amazon’s servers.

These IoT pet devices uses smart technology to allow owners to interact with their dogs while away from home!

Named after the Spanish and Portuguese nickname for ‘amigo,’ which means ‘friend,’ Migo’s IoT system consists of four main components: a collar, camera/speaker, door sensor, and smart socket.

Let’s face it–our separation anxiety is just as bad as our dogs. Closing the front door on our crying dog is possibly harder than coming home to a shredded couch and floor filled with ripped-up foam cushioning. What happens at home when the dog’s left alone remains a mystery until our return and then we wish it stayed that way. Created by Norway-based designer Lucas Couto, Migo is a kit of IoT devices that leans on smart technology to provide remote interaction between dogs and their owners while they’re away.

Migo is short for ‘amigo,’ which means ‘friend’ in Spanish. Each component of Migo communicates and connects to one another via Bluetooth, which allows for remote interaction between dogs and their owners. The system’s main appeal is the collar since it comes equipped with a tracking system, temperature sensor, heart rate monitor, audio output, and an LED flashlight. Owners can also have all eyes on their dog at home through the camera unit that functions as a traditional surveillance camera. The camera even comes with a speaker so that owners can speak to their dogs whenever anxiety levels seem to rise.

As soon as owners leave through their front door, Migo’s door sensor instantly sends a signal to another IoT device to turn it on and distract the dog. For example, once the door is opened and then closed, Migo sends a signal to the television to distract the dog. The chief component, however, would probably be the smart socket. The smart socket has audio output capabilities and receives signals from all the other devices to turn them on or off. The owner can keep tabs on their dog’s every movement from the convenience of an accompanying app that allows owners to watch and interact with their pups from anywhere.

The IoT system of smart devices is easy to assemble and comfortable for your dog to wear. Migo consists of four main components: a tracking collar, camera/speaker, smart socket, and door sensor. The devices have an inconspicuous design so they can be placed anywhere throughout the house.

Each component of Migo communicates via Bluetooth connectivity.

Owners can remotely control Migo’s appliances from anywhere, so when your pup feels anxious, a calming song can be broadcasted through the camera speakers.

As soon as the owner closes the front door, Migo sends a signal to the television to turn on and distract your pup from separation.

With built-in temperature sensors, the collar can remotely activate AC units to ensure your dog is always comfortable.

Owners are able to interact with each component of Migo while using the system’s accompanying app.

Migo’s smart collars come in an array of different colors to match your pup’s personality.

Embedded heart rate monitors also come with the smart collar to keep track of your dog’s anxiety levels. The tracking collar comes equipped with an LED flashlight that can either be manually or remotely controlled.

Owners can remove the smart aspect of the tracking collar to charge it between use.

The smart socket works as the chief operator for Migo, controlling and receiving signals from every other IoT device.

The camera can be turned on and off using remote technology so owners can always keep a watchful eye over their dogs no matter where they are.

Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine Pet Carrier Is Only Big Enough for Scrappy-Doo

Velma, Fred, Daphne, Shaggy, and Scooby-Doo are always on the hunt, unraveling new mysteries, munching on Scooby snacks, and getting stoned in the back of The Mystery Machine. Now your dog or cat can join in on the fun from inside of this Mystery Machine Pet Carrier (affiliate link) from Buckle-Down. The $60 bag is made from quilted polyester and has vented mesh windows for your pet to look out from, with a large U-shaped zipper roof and Velcro closures. Which makes me wonder why can’t real vans use zippers and Velcro? There’s also a clip inside for attaching a collar, and a removable base pad which adds comfort and makes for easy cleanup in case your pet likes to barf on car rides.

Unfortunately, if you have a Great Dane or another big dog like Scooby-Doo, there’s no way he’s fitting in this thing. It measures just 15.5″ L x 10.5″ W x 10.0″ H on the inside, which is definitely more Scrappy-Doo size. Or in Amazon reviewer Norma’s case, it’s perfect for two chihuahuas.

If you have a pet, then you probably already know, that they are hungry almost ALL the time. No matter how much you feed them, they’ll come to you with little puppy eyes (quite literally in the case of doggos), pleading you for some treats! And most of the time…more like all the time, you’ll give in! As tricky as those situations can get, storing their food correctly is another matter altogether. When stored outside, it can often get stale, and that isn’t the best for your pet’s tummy. And our own personal refrigerators are overflowing with our leftovers, where’s the space for storing pet food? Hence, Hyesung Yung designed PRODOGT, a refrigerator, especially for pets! How cool is that? But this innovative fridge not only stores your pet’s food, but it also serves it!

PRODOGT is a green and grey-colored quirky little appliance! It almost looks like a portable fan, and it does mimic its dynamics in a certain way (more on that later). The center section of the fridge which looks like a portable fan actually stores the food. You can gain access to this section, by opening the little door of the fridge and sliding your pet’s food into it. When it’s time for your pet’s meal, the food slides from the storage section to the little platter attached to the bottom of the fridge. The platter slides out when it’s dinner time for your furry friend! Quite handy, no? PRODOGT not only stores and cools pet food, but it also serves it quite efficiently! All these features can be operated and handled via the menu panel. The panel is extremely user-centric and friendly, helping you easily control how much food your pet gets, and when he/she gets it. Now going back to the resemblance in the functionality of this fridge and a portable fan! The main storage section rotates exactly like the blades of a fan. This mixes and rotates all the food items evenly and periodically so that the perishable and older feed do not decay. The fridge also maintains an optimum and safe temperature, which retains moisture and ensures the food stays fresh.

This foldable dog water bottle creates a comfortable water bowl for your dog, anytime, anywhere!

A dog’s gotta drink. We each have our own reusable water bottle that we can take with us on the go– your dog needs one too. For those long hikes that end up being way hotter than expected or the car rides spent stuck in traffic, dogs need their own means of quenching their thirst. With a foldable design, the Redminut dog water bottle, designed by Marco Chen & Archer Guan, is a portable travel accessory for dogs and their owners that ensures your doggo won’t ever go thirsty.

Redminut relies on a hinged folding mechanism that allows the dog water bottle to easily close for storage and expand for use. Once the dog bottle’s lid is fully expanded to 180°, water is released with the push of the bottle’s only button. Since Redminut’s folding mechanism is so easy to use and carry on-the-go, it’s the ideal travel companion for outdoor activities like afternoons spent at the dog park or long walks around you and your pup’s favorite lake. Redminut can also be fully extended and put into use with one hand, so you can always hold the leash in the other.

In constructing Redminut, the designers were sure to source building materials that were safe for dogs, so the water trough was built from ABS plastic and the product’s body was built from PC plastic. The water trough itself is also long and wide enough for even the biggest, thirstiest tongues, and the full capacity of Redminut measures at 14 oz.
