HD projector merges with a ceiling lamp and a built-in smart speaker, creating a space-saving entertainment centre

And now I’m wondering, why didn’t someone think of this before?

Brands have gone crazy innovating and designing projectors: 4k projectors, laser projectors, pocket projectors, short throw projectors, the list is endless. While being through all these variants, I’m not sure why someone didn’t choose the option to embed a projector into a lighting unit in the ceiling so it could project without hindrance? XGIMI for some reason was struck by the idea and the company has churned out the innovative projector, which I’m not sure how convincing it is in performance, but it certainly has me floored by its ceiling-worthy functionality.

Born out of thought above the rest; the XGIMI Magic Lamp is designed to function as a projector, a ceiling light, and a Bluetooth speaker all-in-one. The ceiling-mounted full HD (1,920 x 1,080) DLP projection system has its own 8W Harman Kardon speaker built-in. The smart speaker is compatible with voice assistant, supports Dolby Audio and DTS Virtual X, and helps in creating immersive theatre-esque experiences. Onboard is also a LED room lamp; this dimmable lamp features 176 LED mood lights.

The XGIMI Magic Lamp is currently on sale in China for 7,999 yuan (roughly $1,100). For the ones in Europe willing to shell out their dosh for this interesting ceiling projector; XGIMI is expected to showcase it at the IFA 2022 in Berlin next month. Before you make up your mind, here is a little about the projector’s ability. Capable of a 0.71 transmittance ratio, the Magic Lamp can project a 100-inch picture in 1080p resolution from 1.5 meters away. The projector delivers a very modest 900ANSI lumens of brightness, which should be fine if you have a closed room with little natural light.

XGIMI Magic Lamp for its projection prowess is powered by a MediaTek quad-core processor, and an AI engine supported by 4GB of RAM and 32 gigs of onboard storage. The internal storage ensures you can install a few streaming apps to play content when you want. Even if the XGIMI Magic Lamp is not the best projector, it is a capable multifunction device, which will by virtue of this placement in the ceiling ensure there are no shadows on the screen as people move about in the room!

Work wall makes your home work space into a working environment

One of the major things that changed during the pandemic was that companies realized people can still be productive even when they’re working from home. So even when the world started opening up, some decided that they would continue with a hybrid or totally remote working situation. So now we’re seeing all kinds of products and devices to help people recreate an office or school environment at home.

Designer: Hanyoung Lee

Work wall is a concept for your home office that will help you organize your thoughts, share brainstorming ideas during your virtual meetings, and basically transform the space you have into a work environment. It’s a beam projector and a board scanner that is attached to whatever wall you’re using for your work or schooling purposes. But instead of a projector taking up space across the wall, it’s created to be attached to the wall itself together with the screen.

The screen itself lets you write down your thoughts, tasks, or brainstorming ideas. You can use it for yourself or during virtual meetings, you can share it with your teammates or classmates. The scanner function of the device will automatically be transferred digitally and shared with whoever you need to share it with. So basically, work wall is an actual whiteboard (that’s not really white) that can turn into a digital board. It’s not really clear from the renders if you can project things on it, but since that’s one of the things mentioned in the product description, then we assume that it can.

The design for the work wall looks like a slim air conditioning device. It’s where the lenses, scanners, and speakers are placed. Underneath the board, there is also a space to store your writing tools or other work accessories you may need. It’s minimalist and clean-looking so it won’t add to the clutter of your workspace. It would be interesting to know more about the technical details of the device before making up my mind if this is something I would like to add to my home office.

PANO Beam Projector is yet another portable projector ideal for home or camping use

Concept PANO Beam Projector Details

Projector technology continues to improve, and we believe there will be no end to it. Even if display technology advances, people will still want projectors, whether for home or business use.

Some households are even switching to getting home projectors. Instead of getting more giant TVs, they prefer projectors to achieve that cozy, home movie theater feel. We have seen and tried several projectors already. Most of them are just concept designs, but there are a few we really want to turn into reality, like the PANO.

Designer: BK Hwang

PANO Beam Projector Design

Concept PANO Beam Projector Details

The PANO Beam Projector is a portable version that is great for the home and for outdoor adventures. For example, if you’re into camping and are looking for evening entertainment, you can quickly bring your Pano projector and be ready to play your favorite movie or TV show. This portable beam projector doesn’t look complicated to operate. The design is a simple rectangular prism inspired by an SUV. On one side is the projecting lens and what appears to be a fabric speaker grille. On the top surface is a button and what we’re assuming is a zoom ring.

On the rear are some more buttons and ports like the power button, Bluetooth connectivity button, DC IN, AUX, USB 2.0, and an HDMI port. There is some vent for heat to go out. We’re assuming this thing is lightweight compared to older projector models.

The name Pano is from the word “panorama.” The designer BK Hwang meant the projector to be used in storytelling, allowing you and me to go an emotional trip down memory lane. You can use the projector to watch movies and view your videos or photos.

This PANO Beam Projector joins our list of exciting concept projects. We remember that Video Bubble Projector that uniquely shows images. Then, there is the Togic One home projector designed for Gen Z TikTokers. The swivel projector brings function and elegance together.

We also can’t forget that Smart Minion Projector that looks like a yellow minion. Of course, that Projectable is still making us wish it would turn into reality. But if you really need to buy a home projector, you may want to consider The Freestyle from Samsung. It’s the tech giant’s first entry into the smart projector game as an easy-to-use projector you can use on its own or with a phone. It’s remarkable as it can replace your lamp, speaker, and TV—all at the same time.

Video Bubble Concept Projector shows images in a more unique way

Video Bubble Projector

Home video projectors are becoming more popular again, especially with more models being released at moderate prices. Back in the day, projectors cost a lot and they were not as clear and hi-res as the devices available today. In recent years, we have seen a number of forms and innovations and we can expect more will be imagined.

Most projectors are designed similarly. The idea is for a projection device to be placed at a distance to properly project to a surface. That is the common setup but it becomes problematic when something suddenly enters the area between the surface and the projector. The view is blocked or skewed if the projector is suddenly moved.

Designer: Gaon Park

A fixed projector can be a solution but it’s not always possible for most homes. An installed one can still be the best projector but it has to be more useful and convenient. The Video Bubble Projector works best as images are projected in the same place as the area of projection.

Video Bubble Projector How to Use

The Video Bubble Projector is small so it doesn’t take much space. You install it on the wall where you want to project. When not in use for projection, you can use it as a clock or a smart speaker. It features a small screen and comes with a remote control that can be attached magnetically.

Video Bubble Projector Screen UI

You can hang this projector but you can also use it as a regular standing projector as made possible by the collapsible legs underneath. The lenses are located on the upper right corner which means you need to place this on the lower left side of a surface where you want the images projected. The short distance of projection is what makes this a smart solution. No more objects will get in the way especially if you place the projector on the wall.

Design Concept Video Bubble Projector

The Video Bubble Projector was named after the idea that the image projected looks like a speech bubble. You know those bubbles you see in comics when a person is expressing or saying something? That’s the inspiration for this projector.

Concept Video Bubble Projector

This device has a rounded rectangular shape and the projector lens is positioned on the upper right portion, looking like an ear. The surface of the device appears to be a fabric that is usually used on speakers. There is a small screen in the center front that shows what is playing. It comes with a remote that is the same share as the screen, working as a cover when not in use.

Video Bubble Projector Design Concept

On the rear, you will see a recessed portion for the USB-C ports. This keeps the silhouette of the projector so the cable is not in the way. There are magnetic parts that allow the device to be attached to the wall so the projector is more stable. A cradle is fixed to the wall with screws and it’s where the device is magnetically attached.

The screen cover-slash-remote control is used to control the device. You can change the size, volume, projection mode with it. You can also access the menu and power on/off the device using the remote control. The color of the Video Bubble Projector’s body and fabric appears to be orange here but we’re imaging more colors can be made.

This smart lamp is a PC widget interface, digital microscope and portable x-ray machine

A geeky LED lamp that’s got a screen on the outside to beam important widgets beyond the PC and external screen interface. On the inside, there are more functions that’ll keep anyone interested.

Ever wondered what could be the ideal catalyst between a desk setup having a PC or laptop, and the docked phone? A cool desktop widget screen christened Workmate beams everything and anything important to your work regime. A perfect accessory for professionals and creatives – either in an office space or work from home setup. The accessory keeps a tab of productivity by tracking the hours you’ve worked in a day. Well, it’s got pretty more tricks up its sleeve to keep the geeky ones excited.

Designer: Taiseer Zarruk

Workmate doubles as a smart lamp that swings open to reveal more trickery. On the inside surface, there are sensors, scanners, and even a small projector that turn the desk surface into a touch-sensitive platform. So, we are talking of an added virtual widget that can be assigned functions like beaming notifications in non-focus sessions, audio player controls, smart lighting controls, and much more. The gadget comes with a Micrograph Pro feature – allowing the user to hook on a detachable stereo microscope lens for magnifying things with up to 100x zoom levels. This is useful for biological analysis, viewing small insects up close, dissecting plants, PCB inspection, or quality control.

That is not it, Workmate also comes with a radiograph pro feature to take X-ray readings. It’s accompanied by a user-friendly integrated interface to take a quick X-ray in case you busted your wrist and want to be sure if any bone is broken or there’s a hairline fracture. While X-ray analysis should be undertaken under strict supervision only by radiographers, I presume the accessory will become a reality in times when we’ll have safe to use X-ray applications for personal use.

Top 10 gadgets – from projectors to TVs you need to keep yourself entertained in case of a lockdown

Just when we thought life was reaching a semblance of normalcy, the Omnicron variant slowly crept into our lives. It’s been slowly driving us back into the comforts of our home…although I don’t think the homebodies are really complaining. Could another lockdown be a possibility in the near future? We don’t know, but it’s better to always be prepared. Hence, we’ve curated a collection of innovative tech designs that’ll keep you thoroughly entertained as the pandemic moves on to the next level. From an FHD projector that lets you watch Netflix on a massive 200-inch display to a shapeshifting TV that turns into a virtual fireplace – these product designs are the futuristic and techy additions you need in your home to completely master any upcoming lockdown. Enjoy!

1. The Freestyle

In stark contrast to most projectors, the Freestyle comes in a sleek cylindrical form that looks like a mix of a spotlight and a smart speaker. In reality, that is almost exactly what it is, though it substitutes the spotlight for an LED projector. The Freestyle’s body can swing 180 degrees, making it trivial to place the projector anywhere and still get a good view. The projected image can go from 30 to up to 100 inches with a Full HD resolution. Despite the more compact size, the Samsung Freestyle is actually packed with features you’d see in bigger projectors. Those include autofocus and automatic keystone correction, both of which give the projector its advertised freedom.

2. The N1

The N1 can project sound waves at a certain amplitude or loudness, but it can also decide how loud the audio remains over a certain distance. By doing this, it can make the sound waves traveling to your ear loud, but make them soft the minute they cross your ear. Mounted on the top of the N1 are two cameras that track your face, locating the placement of your ears. It doesn’t matter if you have long hair, a thick beard, glasses, or even a face mask… the device can beam audio to your ears in real-time.

3. The 77W

The 77W’s display unit sits on a stone-textured base and comes with a wooden sleeve that can move up or down (as can the display itself). This allows the TV to assume 3 modes – a TV mode, a concealed mode, and a fireplace mode. The concealed mode allows the display to descend downwards into the wooden sleeve, hiding most of that black box behind a textured wooden panel… but the other two modes allow the 77W to truly shine… either as a high-definition television for watching the news, videos, sports, and entertainment content or as a fireplace that peeks from below the wooden panel, playing a looped high-definition video of burning logs and crackling flames.

4. The Jireno CUBE4

For under two Benjamins, the Jireno CUBE4 makes pretty lofty promises. Sure, it isn’t a 4K multimedia device, but then again, it delivers an absolute bang for its buck. The projector comes with a compact design that’s reminiscent of the Anker Nebula Mars 2, with its handle on top that lets you carry it around the place, so you can bring the party to your friends’ houses. Although it’s marketed as a portable projector, the one thing it lacks is an internal battery, so having a power-source nearby is a must. On the design front, the Cube4 has an all-aluminum body that, aside from giving the projector its premium aesthetic, also helps with heat dispersion, allowing the projector to stay cool at all times – a feature further reinforced by the CUBE4’s potent inner cooling system.

5. Iván Antón’s Apple TV 2021 Concept

Designer, Iván Antón has come up with an Apple TV 2021 concept, which comes with a wall plug built-in. Now that’s full marks for the compact build, but the practicality is debatable until we have something like this to use. Taking nothing away from the vision, I’m impressed with the concept of Apple TV’s ability to interact with Siri without the need for a remote. Furthermore, the new concept also integrates the MagSafe charger into the Apple TV unit, so the compatible remote can now be charged conveniently by sticking it to the back of the set-top box.

6. The Light Speaker

Designed with a multisensorial experience, the Light Speaker from Transparent appeals to your eyes as much as it does to your ears. Styled to look less like your conventional speaker with front-firing drivers or like the ubiquitous smart speaker with a cylindrical fabric clad, the Light Speaker champions a lantern-inspired design… and in true lantern fashion, also comes with a light on the inside that flickers as the speaker’s drivers vibrate, creating a hauntingly beautiful audiovisual allure. In its lamp-shaped avatar, the Light Speaker rubbishes the notion of what a Bluetooth speaker should look like. Taking on an appearance that looks aesthetic even when the lamp isn’t on, the Light Speaker is a compact little number that comes with a handle that can be detached if needed.

7. The HiBed

Equipped with a built-in 4K projector that can be synced with a series of devices to binge-watch movies/TV shows on a 70-inch retractable screen, the HiBed is the epitome of in-bed relaxation. A built-in surround sound system with invisible speakers makes the bed feel more like a movie theatre. For lazy bums like me actually traveling to a multiplex to watch a movie is totally out of the question now! Its intelligence makes it more than a bed, serving as a space you can escape to with music from any of your favorite sources! Oh, and did I forget to mention it comes along with Wifi?

8. The Chroma

VAVA makes a few really compelling arguments on behalf of its cutting-edge projector. For its compact size, the VAVA Chroma can project a display that measures anywhere between 80 inches to 150 inches diagonally. While most projectors require a dedicated spot and careful placement and orientation, the Chroma is an ultra-short-throw projector and can directly be placed against a blank wall, while it projects an image upwards onto the wall. As far as the image itself goes, the Chroma uses the world’s most advanced ALPD® 4.0 laser technology and a Red, Green, Blue Plus triple laser light source to produce a sharper 4K UHD image with HDR10, up to 106% Rec. 2020 color range, exceeding the color range of top movie theater projectors.

9. The Harman Kardon Turntable

The Harman Kardon turntable designed by URUSS Design carries a distinct retro-futuristic flair and unique form factor to keep music lovers more than interested. Just look at those internals inside a crystal-clear housing that encapsulates the mechanics of the record player in the most majestic manner. It’s like a celebration of the timeless record player era and the untouchable art of creating music. This piece of rare beauty stands in a corner on an equally impressive tripod – instantly attracting onlookers with a profound magnetism. For an instance, I too got drawn to the charismatic design of this record player that is in a league of its own. As the music plays, the record spinning inside is visible as elegantly as one could ever imagine!

10. The Collector

Codenamed the ‘Collector’, this futuristic vision from the mind of Liu Tianchen aims at bridging the worlds of electronic music and actual instrument-playing together. The rather slick-looking electronic drum kit features six adjustable pads and two pedals mounted on a folding frame. The kit comes with a folding stool too, and two drumsticks, giving you a near-authentic drumming experience. The difference, however, is in the fact that the Collector doesn’t rely on a pre-existing bank of drum sounds, but instead, gives the artist the flexibility to collect and build their own banks, either by purchasing samples online or making samples of their own. Then, working just like any good MIDI controller, the Collector lets you create beats using these samples in a way that closes the gap between actually jamming on a real-life drum kit, and just simply pressing buttons on a MIDI controller.

Samsung’s entry into smart projectors is here to replace your TV, speaker, as well as your lamp!

Say goodbye to those hulking boxes in your living room with a single projector that might actually be doing too much.

Along with the rise of cord-cutters, there has been an increase in the number of people eschewing traditional TV sets. Some have become accustomed to watching everything from their smartphones or tablets, while others have opted to use less permanent fixtures to replace those large slabs of plastic and glass. Home projectors, both the short and long throw kind, have become more en vogue these days, and Samsung is jumping on the scene with a surprisingly fresh take on the product.

Designer: Samsung

Projectors come in different sizes and designs, but almost all of them have one thing in common. Those come in a box shape and are often quite bulky, mostly to accommodate the equally bulky hardware inside. That’s what makes the new Samsung Freestyle a bit of a pleasant surprise because it throws all conventions out the window.

It even runs Samsung’s Smart TV software, so you’re getting the same apps and features you would see on the brand’s latest Internet-connected TVs. But wait, there’s more! The Freestyle also functions as a smart speaker and an ambient lighting device when not in use for watching videos.

There are, of course, some drawbacks to a projector this small, like the 500 nits of brightness that sounds too low for use in bright rooms. Its micro HDMI slot will also have some scampering for adapters, and there’s no built-in battery for wireless use. Then again, you can easily use a power bank when you carry it around, which could be music to the ears of Gen Z and millennials that this product was made for.

Togic One is a home projector built for Gen Z TikTokers that is designed to look good from all angles–especially for the camera.

TikTok has done more for interior design in recent years than you might think. Whether you’re Gen Z or only a wannabe, then you’ve probably seen the mood lights and ceiling projectors all over TikTok. Transforming your bedroom into viral light shows has become the new normal and designers across industries are taking note. Togic One, from industrial designer Fu Fu, is a home projector built to look good from every angle, even on camera.

Being holed up in our bedroom for months on end with nothing to do but create TikTok videos has made many of us reconsider our bedrooms and how we can best design them to reflect our personalities. LED mood lamps and video projectors are two designs that help bring social media and TikTok to our bedrooms. Togic One from Fu Fu is a small home projector that can be adjusted to different positions and project film from anywhere in the room. Tightly wrapped in Guilford of Maine, Togic One has a familiar texture and design that would fit right in on a shelf lined with your portable speaker and smart assistant. Boasting a simple design, Togic One features only two small projection lenses that transmit film from the camera to your bedroom walls.

Togic One’s projector stand also features a unique holder to securely lock the projector in place. Similar to a magazine rack, Togic One’s holder comes with detachable plugs that fasten the projector into place. Togic One’s placement rack locks the projector into place using a grid of plugs and sockets that can latch the projector into any vertical or horizontal position. Users can project films or any other visual media, including light shows, onto their ceiling simply by turning Togic One vertically, pointing its lenses toward the ceiling, and locking it into place using the grid plug-and-socket mechanism.

Designer: Fu Fu

Guilford of Maine fabric wraps the exterior of Togic One, giving it a familiar texture and look.

The projector’s lenses are subtle by design but can project visual media from anywhere in the room.

The small, compact nature of Togic One allows it to be carried anywhere and operable from any angle.

The back panel of input ports features a power button and sockets for HDMI cables, USB 2.0 chargers, a headphone jack, and a DC-IN port.

Togic One can be turned into any position to project visual media everywhere from the floor to the ceiling.

Shadow Fighter Projection Game Allows You to Practice Sparring with a Shadow

The world: it’s full of bullies. And what better way to equip yourself to deal with them than to know how to kick all their asses? Enter the Shadow Fighter gaming system (affiliate link), a projector that allows you to spar against a shadow enemy while brushing up on your offensive and defensive martial arts moves. Fingers crossed they release an expansion pack with nunchucks and throwing stars!

The projector system features four modes of difficulty (easy, intermediate, hard, and practice), and is powered by 5 AA batteries. It emits a green light when you successfully land a hit against your shadowy opponent, a red light when you’re struck, and emits no light at all if you put the batteries in backward.

So, yeah, it looks like a great way to accidentally punch a few more holes in my living room wall. “Well it’s not like we were going to get the security deposit back anyway,” I imagine telling myself while eyeing the fireman’s pole I installed from the upstairs bedroom to the kitchen.

Prima Projector is the Most Pocket-Friendly Projector Ever Made

The term “pocket projector” is relatively new. It applies to a class of extra-small projectors that can hypothetically fit in your pocket. While this is technically true of some trendy projectors, it’s never been convenient or practical to keep a projector in your pocket. They’re too fragile. Their battery life is dismal. And, you can’t use them without wires, speakers, and other external devices. In practice, pocket projectors are not very portable at all. But that might all change with the new pocket projector by Prima. Prima Projector is a pocket projector that you can actually keep in your pocket…
