Pucs Promise to Chill Your Drinks without Adding Water

If you like cold drinks, you have probably experienced the irritating dilution that comes as the ice in your cup melts. This is particularly troublesome if you’re into soft drinks that become diluted and lose their flavor or if you have a penchant for expensive liquor and you want your drink full strength. A new project has turned up on Kickstarter that Dr. Pepper lovers and booze hounds alike can appreciate.

The product is called Pucs Rechargeable Ice. These things actually have no water or any other liquid for that matter. They are small round discs of solid stainless steel. They come in little hollowed out wooden holders and you place them in the freezer to chill the metal.

You can then drop one or more of the cold stainless steel Pucs in you drink to chill it to your liking. The more Pucs you add, the colder the drink. The best thing about them is as they lose their chill, they don’t melt – leaving your drink at its original strength in with the original flavor no matter how long they stay in the cup. The people behind the project are saying you can even drop room temperature pucs into hot beverages to help quickly cool them off, since the metal will absorb the heat.

Pucs Rechargeable Ice is raising funds on Kickstarter until June 1, and a pledge of $35(USD) more will get you your own set of six Pucs and a little walnut or maple tray.

Adjustable Height Computer Desk Casemod Deserves a Standing Ovation

We’ve seen a couple of desks that double as computer cases, but this one takes things to the next level. Unsurprisingly, its proud and very skilled creator also calls it The Next Level.

next level adjustable height standing desk by pascal de greef

The Next Level was made by Cooler Master forum member Pascal de Greef as an entry to the 2012 Cooler Master mod competition. The desk’s height can be adjusted with the push of a button; same goes for the two monitors. Pascal didn’t mention the specs of his computer but it seems like a heavyweight itself, what with two GPUs, a water-cooling system and four huge cooling fans. I wonder how noisy it gets under heavy load. Check out the finished product below:

If you’re into building you really should check out Pascal’s thread at the Cooler Master Forum because he has uploaded a ton final and work in progress images. Note that aside from the lifting mechanisms, the table legs and the column that supports the monitors, Pascal fabricated everything with his own two hands (and some heavy machinery). This is clearly the work of a master craftsman.

Tokyoflash Kisai Spider’s Transparent Display Lets You View Your Wrist Hairs

Just like many Japanese watches, this new one from Tokyoflash looks somewhat hard to read, but apparently after having worn the watch for a day or so, you’ll be able to easily tell the time. But it’s not just the time-telling that makes this watch unique. This is the first watch that I’ve seen that has a transparent display.

To be honest though, even though it might sound cool, a transparent display on a watch doesn’t really ad anything to its functionality. Nevertheless, the Tokyflash Kisai Spider looks like an interesting watch to have.

In addition to its LCD screen, it’s got an LED that will light up the watch, and illuminate your hairy/non-hairy wrist when you want to tell time in the dark.

In order to tell the time, you need to pay attention to an array of concentric numbers, that start out from the outside and move inward. That seems like an obtuse explanation, but after watching the video, you’ll get it.

The Tokyoflash Kisai Spider watch sells for $179(USD), and comes in a stainless steel or black metal case and band with a black, blue, green or red display.

Camera Lens Thermos

Sometimes you need a little coffee to focus and sometimes you need a zoom lens to focus. Well the Fotodiox Thermo Lens Cup Camera Lens Thermos won’t help you take pictures better unless you require a hot drink. But it will keep 16 ounces of your beverage hot (or cold) in a package that looks just like a Nikon 24-70mm F2.8G Lens but is made of insulated stainless steel instead of fancy optics and such. Now you can focus.

Ziiiro Saturn Watch: Telling Time with Rings

I’ve gotten so used to Tokyoflash having a corner on the cool digital watch market, that I’m always pleasantly surprised when another company comes along with a nifty LCD watch. Up until now, the guys over at Ziiiro have focused on analog designs (and putting too many ‘i’s in the name of their company.) Now, they’ve released a slick digital watch that can keep up with the best of what Japan has to offer.

The new Ziiiro Saturn tells time using a set of concentric circles. The 12 longer segments on the outer ring indicate hours, while the 60 smaller slivers on the inner ring tell minutes. The watch uses LCD tech for its display and offers a cool electroluminescent backlight for nighttime viewing as well.

The Saturn is available in black, gunmetal or chrome finishes, all made from stainless steel. You can pre-order the Saturn now over at Watchismo for $229.99(USD), and they expect to ship the watches this December.

KeySquare: A Keychain That’s Definitely Not for Squares

I’ve lost plenty of keys, off carabiners as well, so I’m always looking for a more secure option for my keys. Unlike carabiner keychains, KeySquare wasn’t designed to help you climb mountains, but it was specifically made for carrying your keys.

KeySquare is cut and machined from a solid block of stainless steel, and hand-finished for durability. There’s a long slit which will attach securely to a belt loop, but it’s still small enough to slide into a pocket. It also doubles as a bottle opener.

KeySquare was launched as a Kickstarter project, and with 26 days left in funding, they have amassed over $31,000 – blowing through their $10,800 goal. It will most definitely be made and in order to snag yours, you’ll have to pledge $36 (USD).
