This sleek modern desk finds versatility and simplicity through a system of organizational wooden bars!

Bars is a Scandinavian-inspired desk design that finds versatility and simplicity through an organizational system of wooden beams.

Desks do it all for us. Not only do we work there, but they become our storage bins, our mail sorting cabinets, our coffee tables. With all of their versatility, these different uses aren’t typically put into consideration when designing desks.

When desks are built too simply, they run the risk of not being able to handle all of the supplemental uses we impose on them. The more complex the desk, the less likely we are to intuit all of its uses. Product designer, João Teixeira understood the assignment when he designed Bars, a minimalist wooden desk that’s built on intuitive design principles to balance versatility with simplicity.

Aptly named, Bars is a modern desk that finds multiple uses through an overlapping system of wooden bars. Designed to help organize our work and off days, the system of bars provides clever, integrated storage options to keep our writing utensils and smartphones in designated areas and keep our working space free of clutter. Carved along each one of the wooden beams, Teixeira incorporated narrow, sunken storage bins that are just the right size to keep our erasers, pens, and stationery.

Along the desk’s rear wooden beams, Teixeira hollowed out a lengthy slot that fastens our smartphones into place while we work, keeping the threat of endless scrolling at arm’s length. Teixeira also envisioned the bars working as a sort of resting place for bulkier work-related items like over-ear headphones. Wrapping around three sides of Bars, the organizational system of wooden beams helps keep the desk’s working space free of mess so our workdays can be too.

Designer: João Teixeira

Bars is a simply built, yet versatile desk that keeps a modern, minimalist profile.

Inspired by Scandinavian design, Bars is minimalist by design and keeps a natural, polished wooden look.

With moving magnetic beads, this interactive office organizer is a cool replacement of your to-do list!

Rowrow is an interactive organizing system built as a desk appliance with magnetic beads that indicate how far you’ve come on any given task.

Keeping track of daily tasks can sometimes feel like a second job. Organizing multiple schedules at once and keeping tabs on each task’s progress isn’t always as easy as it seems. Still, we have our own ways of making sure we’re on top of it.

Some use smartphone reminders, while some prefer physical calendars to jot down each day’s schedule. Industrial designer, Jiwon Song created their own organization device called Rowrow, an interactive office appliance that keeps tabs on every one of your tasks with tiny magnetic beads.

Rowrow is a decently sized organizing system that employs magnetic beads to slide along long progress rows that are punctuated by percent markers to indicate how far you’ve come from the start of any given task. When users first embark on a task, they can write the task’s name on a slip of paper that adheres to the starting point of one of five progress rows.

From there, as users move through their days and get their tasks taken care of, magnetic beads move from one percentage marker to the next to visually track each task’s progress as it comes. Once a task has been completed, the magnetic beads drop into the hourglass on the opposite end of Rowrow–a satisfying way to wrap up the day.

Constructed from acrylic and magnets, Rowrow measures 260x60x120mm and won’t take up more space on your desk than a few notebooks might. With more work taking place at home, keeping track of work responsibilities gets even trickier. With Rowrow, staying on top of our schedules will feel more doable than ever, and watching the magnetic beads sink into the hourglass will feel just as good as crossing out the task on your To-Do list.

Designer: Jiwon Song

Once the given task has been completed, the user sinks the corresponding magnetic bead into the hole and down the hourglass.

With a minimalist look made up of mostly black and white colors, Rowrow fits onto any home or office desk.

Rowrow’s foggy coating gives the appliance a discreet look.

Storing all of the magnetic beads on a glass plate outside of the hourglass gives the desk a classic touch.

Cork Rocket Desk Organizer: This Is Ground Control to Major Tom

Because who doesn’t already spend the majority of their workday daydreaming about outer space, SUCK UK has just made the visualization even easier thanks to this Cork Rocket Desk Organizer. The sustainably sourced rocket is perfect for storing pens and pencils, plus you can pin notes or photos of your loved ones back on earth to the outside.

The rocket stands about 11″ tall and, just like all my desk drawers, I’m going to fill it with candy instead of office supplies. I’m sort of known as the candy guy around the office, and I’m fairly certain my seemingly endless supply of sweets is the only reason I still haven’t been fired. I can’t even remember the last time I actually did some work around here.

Am I slowly going to replace everything in my cubicle with the space memorabilia I’ve collected over the years until the whole thing is entirely space-themed? Absolutely. I mean how many other people do you know who can say they have a rejection letter from Space Camp hanging above their desk?

stay goodbye to cluttered pen stands, table clocks and sticky notes – this ultimate desk organizer has it all!

2ORDE is designed to create an environment that gives a sense of uniformity to the work desk and, owing to its multiple-use approach, makes finding office supplies convenient.

Keeping the home-office desk organized is like forcing a round peg through a square hole. There are endless desk organizers you can find on the market for your help, but most of them are about aesthetics than function; and if you go for functional options, you end up compromising on the aesthetics. Striking a uniform balance between the two, and delivering on multiple forms than just one, a group of designers has come up with 2ORDE, the ultimate desk organizer you won’t look beyond!

Since the pandemic, the home office workstation has become the place where we spend most of our time. In such a scenario, when you want to get something done and you don’t find the right supplies, you’re bound to go berserk. To save you the day and help you organize the desk and store out-of-order articles creatively, 2ORDE arrives in form of a stable notice board with its own set of supplies.

After a host of barnstorming sessions, mockups, and feedbacks – the designers Junseo Oh, Eojin Roh and Minjeong Kim arrived at a magnetic board in matte finish. Perfectly stable on its broad base, the 2ORDE is more than just the board. It is provided with a set of colorful sticky notes. These fasten magnetically to a section of the board, leaving the other part for you to detail your to-do with chalk and then paste a functional clock on it to glace at what schedule fits your time.

Even more interesting is the fact that these sticky notes are erasable; designers claim no matter the pen you use, you can rub it and move on without a speck of doubt. The provided pen holder also clings onto the magnetic board and lets you have your pen collection right in focus.

This cactus-inspired desk organizer uses a slot-and-tab stacking method to adapt with your changing setup needs!

There are as many ways to organize an office space as there are offices in the world. When there’s no longer any room to stuff stationery in desktop organizers, that’s when things get messy. But desks are arranged to fit the needs of those working behind them, so options for storage better be plentiful. And by storage options, I don’t mean endless stacks of papers, pens, and staplers. Inspired by the indefinite growing lengths of succulents, Subin Song collaborated with Fountain Studio to design Cacty, a modular desk organizer that can expand and grow to limitless heights.

Each module of Cacty can be linked to one another through a slot-and-tab stacking method that creates an endless array of options for organizing. Users can store bulkier items like staplers and tape dispensers in Cacty’s base module, the most central piece of the stacking system, which comes equipped with four slots for additional modules’ tabs to connect. The other modules that come with Cacty fit different organizational needs. For instance, a taller module can contain long writing tools like pens and pencils, along with rulers and scissors. Then, shorter modules can hold office supplies like glue sticks, binder clips, and safety pins.

Cacty’s main appeal is the infinite combinations that can be applied when constructing the modular system. Meeting the organizational needs of each user, Cacty can be constructed into any shape that works for your desktop. Thanks to its slot-and-tab stacking method, any modular scheme can work with Cacty to help categorize your office supplies and streamline your workdays.

Designer: Subin Song x Fountain Studio

Inspired by the infinite growth of succulent plants, Cacty’s expansion has endless possibilities.

Cacty’s prototype was made from corrugated paper.

Using a slot-and-tab stacking method, Cacty securely fastens its modules together.

Cacty’s base module is the most central one, offering room for bulkier office supplies.

Cacty’s tallest module creates some space for taller, slimmer items like scissors and rulers.

A shorter module is the ideal size to keep items like gluesticks and mini-highlighters.

Cacty’s shortest module creates shelf-like organizers for paper clips and thumbtacks.

The modular structure of Cacty depends on each user’s organizational needs.

This two-tiered desk uses loops to provide plenty of storage for your 2021 WFH setup

Our living spaces have seen a lot of changes this past year, but none more than our work-from-home offices. Whether you’re still working from bed or if you’ve redesigned a corner of your bedroom to fit your desk, working from home has changed the spaces where we work. With that, we’re also scrubbing our walls and ditching any hint of maximalism for the fresh look of minimalism. To construct a desk that accommodates this mode of working from home while sticking to this renewed wave of minimalism, João Teixeira designed Loop Desk, a simple computer desk that’s built for the organizing nut in each of us.

The two-tiered desktop has plenty of working space and a slim build that easily adapts to any room, making it a solid choice for future WFH renovations. In addition to its slim build, Loop Desk reflects a minimalist aesthetic that feels more sophisticated than stylish or trendy. With rounded edges and a monitor stand that hovers above the main working space, Loop Desk was named for the various loops that comprise its full-frame. Computer monitors can be placed on Loop Desk’s tallest working tier, while a keyboard and any other working material can be organized on the desktop’s main working area.

The front drawer of the Loop Desk supplies some storage for lighter accessories like staplers and notebooks, while the backside reveals roomy storage pockets that can be used for rolled-up poster blueprints and hiding knots of cable and wires. Loop Desk can accommodate plenty of practical needs, while always maintaining a refined, suave look to tie up the loose ends of any home workspace. Loop Desk’s natural wood finish and clever storage options will feel right at home in any WFH office– whether it’s still in the bedroom or not.

Designer: João Teixeira

With a slim desktop and stacked loop shelves, Loop Deks maintains a small build without compromising working space.

Loop Desk’s main drawer allows space for appliances like wireless keyboards to be stored when not in use.

With such a thin frame, Loop Desk can fit into any working environment.

The slim build of the Loop Desk doesn’t take away from the ample working space made available by the main desktop as well as the top-tier desk.

Smooth, rounded edges give the Loop Desk a neutral, sophisticated finished look to fit into any bedroom or home office.

Seoul’s architecture gets immortalized with these desk trays!

Looking for new storage containers for your desk? These stackable trays from Studio Unité present an unconventional shape — with slanted sides and not-quite-equal rectangular borders. With their frames, built with a mixture of wood, cement, and plywood, these trays look very much like tiny buildings on your desk. That architecture-inspired imagery has very specific roots; you could likely find its full-sized counterpart in the streets of Seoul.

Brief history lesson: In the 1960s and 70s, Seoul built several apartments in order to accommodate its growing population. Many of those early apartment complexes could be described as … well, experimental – never a perfect square or rectangle. These buildings are a part of Seoul’s history, and Studio Unité honors this history with their array of desk-storage units. Previously on Yanko Design, we’ve featured products inspired by Seoul’s architecture and we are excited to add Studio Unité’s desk trays to that collection. The design helps preserve Seoul’s history and culture and presents it in a product that is easily accessible to consumers.

This Jenga-inspired organizer transforms and adapts with your changing desk setup!

I am very particular when it comes to choosing desk accessories. If I’m going to use this product every day, it needs to fit seamlessly into my working life. It can’t be too large or have oddly shaped compartments. The best desk organizer is one that makes your life easier without you noticing. You can search through multiple stores until you find the perfect fit or, with this constructor-organizer, you can build your own.

One of its most unique features is the fact that the trays and different compartments don’t have an assigned purpose. This product doesn’t have a specific pencil holder or key ring hook. The nooks, ridges, and holders can fit a wide variety of small supplies; it’s up to you to decide how to use them. Another unusual feature of this product is that it can be oriented vertically as well as horizontally, making the possibilities seem almost limitless.

This freedom might seem overwhelming and a bit intimidating, but I think the wooden aesthetic helps make the product more accessible. It reminds me of a mix between Jenga blocks and legos, a building toy that encourages me to play around with the organizer until I settle on the perfect shape. The neutral coloring also allows the product to blend into a variety of settings. I could imagine it complementing the most colorful office cubicle or matching a wood-shop or other construction space. I’m truly impressed by this product’s versatility, both in terms of function and appearance.

This award-winning speaker is the kind of overachiever we love

Speakers for designers are like pizza toppings for regular people, you can never stop with the combinations and you have to keep innovating to find THE one. And on that note I’ll say the Seda speaker is climbing the top speaker charts very rapidly, I mean it has already won the Silver A’Design Award Winner 2020 while being a finalist in the Azerbaijan Design Award 2020 and getting an honorable mention in Design that Educates Awards 2019. Overachiever but we love that in design!

Portable speakers don’t usually have intriguing aesthetics, so Seda was created with the intention of blending both visuals and technology to make it stand out. Its physical form radiates a zen feeling while also having a multifunctional appeal. Seda isn’t just smart, it was made to be intelligent. Seda has a pen holder in the center which also acts as a small space organizer. It features an embedded light bar in its external body which works as a desk light and it also has a dim ambient light – to be honest, this speaker is more lit than the playlist I made for it. It almost looks like an accent interior piece for your home than a portable speaker.

It can be connected via the USB port and Bluetooth, so you can leave it out instead of putting it away in a drawer with a bag of chords (never know which one of those belongs to the speaker!). The media player control panel embedded in Seda’s body makes it compatible with multiple devices so you can connect more than just your phone via Bluetooth. If holiday season isn’t canceled this year, I am putting Seda on my wishlist!
