Sushi-rolled Furnishings!

roll_01

The Object on a Roll project earns its namesake for the sushi-inspired technique it uses to construct wood veneer objects. Applying the traditional, ancient Paipu technique for rolling sushi to wood veneer strips, a new door was opened to an innovative dimension of casting. Better yet, it can be used on a diverse set of objects like this swing, stool and light fixture!

Each design differs from the next in the diameter, thickness and length, and yet, all of them are crafted by applying the same technique of strip rolling and compressing. According to designer Ori Ravgad, the three-dimensional compressing generates solid areas versus hollow ones – meaning the transition from one area to the other aggregates as a rail for threading either the wire, or pole, and provides structural strength to the relatively thin object. The rolling pipe technique enables an outcome of unified, full surfaces in consistent flows, unlike the one created by applying lamination of veneer, which is perceived as layers in a perspective of a cut. See the process in action below!

Zepp and Old Hickory debut bat with integrated swing sensor

Zepp tipped its hand on integrated swing sensors for baseball bats and tennis rackets back at CES. With MLB Spring Training in full swing, now's as good a time as any to pull the wraps of the finished version. The sports-tracking company teamed up wi...

WeDangle: Clothes with a Built-in Swing

Sometimes you just want to swing from a tree . When that urge gets to be too much, you have to find a tire and rope. But what if you had a swing built into your clothes? You could have the tree ready to go and just attach yourself to it. That’s what WeDangle is all about.

wedangle_1zoom in

Instructables member Berto Aussems designed the WeDangle, a swinging seat built into a set of clothes. The pants and jacket have supports that wrap around the body. Just attach cords to these supports with carabiners. A fabric strap and aluminum tube wrapped around a tree branch hold the cords, allowing you to recline and gently swing. The tube even breaks down into four sections, which are easily stored in the jacket.

It looks like it takes a little work to get set up at this point, but Aussems wants to refine the WeDangle so that it can be a piece of everyday clothing that lets people relax outdoors when they have the urge to swing and relax. It’s a pretty cool idea.

Groot Backyard Swing: Guardians of the Playground

Director James Gunn really loves to share cool Guardians of the Galaxy stuff on social media. I don’t think I have ever seen a director who enjoys sharing fan’s expressions of his work more. Recently he shared this picture of a life-sized Groot swing on his Tumblr.

Some fans made this for their child, to be featured on an upcoming reality show called Super Fans, Super Builds. This is probably the coolest Groot creation I have seen yet. That is one lucky kid. He’s probably the star of his neighborhood now, with all of the kids asking to come over.

I am Groot!… and boy is my arm tired!

Pontiac Trans Am Turned into a Swing

The Pontiac Trans-Am Firebird is an American classic. How do you make it even more classic? Turn it into a swing and park it in your yard. It beats a swinging tire right? Heck yeah!

YouTube user John D. Lorean took “Blackie,” his old Pontiac Trans Am, and converted it into an actual working swing. His name would imply that he should have used a DeLorean, but hey, those things are expensive and he already had the Trans Am.

It makes an amazing swing since it has comfortable seats, lights and a even built-in stereo. In the video, he presented the swing to Lisa Dalisa as a Christmas present. What a nice guy. That’s one way to get a girl into the back seat.

Swing Anywhere with the Door Frame Swing

Don’t have a playground nearby? No backyard? Not even a tree that you can attach a tire and rope to? Well, that’s downright sad, but dry those eyes. This door frame swing is here to help.
indoor swing
The indoor door frame swing can be set up on most door frames to give your kid hours of fun. I’m not sure how safe it is, but they say it holds “in excess of 100 lbs.” Your kid may end up on the floor a few times, but that’s a small price to pay for bringing the playground indoors, right?

It will cost you $55.99(USD) from Amazon. Just watch it as you walk around your home. You kid might slam into you and knock you down the stairs on his upswing.

Waterfall Swing is the Object of Your Childhood Fantasies

When I was a kid, I always found waterfalls mesmerizing. There’s just something about the massiveness of the whole thing that my kid brain just couldn’t fully process. Mesh that concept with a swing set and you’ve got yourself the object of many people’s childhood fantasies.

Waterfall SwingThe Waterfall Swing is a collaborative installation by Mike O’Toole, Andrew Ratcliff, Ian Charnas and Andrew Witte. Its primary component are mechanical waterjets and solenoids that showered a plane of falling droplets towards the path of the one who’s on the swing.

The cool thing is that the curtain of water parts in the middle whenever the person on the swing, well, swings past it.

The swing debuted at the 2011 World Maker Faire. If you think you’ve got what it takes, you can learn how to build your own Waterfall Swing by checking out this link.

SensoGlove revamp brings automatic pressure check, stops us from strangling our golf swing

SensoGlove revamp brings automatic pressure check, stops us from strangling our golf swing

Hand rookie golfers a driver and they'll frequently make the classic mistake of gripping the club as though their lives depend on it. A seasoned veteran knows that a little give and take might be needed, which is why Sensosolutions just updated its long-serving SensoGlove to better encourage a balanced hold. The new automatic sensitivity toggle will offer a recommended grip through the LCD based on how tightly the club has been held in the past; throttle the 9 iron often and you'll be asked to loosen up. Longer battery life is also in the cards versus the older model, although we're reaching out to determine how many more holes the glove will handle in one charge. No matter how you slice (or hook) it, the newer SensoGlove is shipping for $89 in versions for both hands and multiple sizes.

Swing Table Brings the Fun Back to Mealtimes

How many times did your mom have to scold you to quit messing around and rocking in your chairs at the dinner table when it was time to eat? I don’t know about you, but my mom would always say she felt like a broken record whenever she’d remind me and my siblings to stop whatever it was we were doing while we were seated there.

Swing Table

But when you’ve got the Swing Table, it’s time to forget all those rules and start having fun because the table itself requires you to. That’s because instead of the usual seats, you get swings instead. The table itself doesn’t have any legs of its own because it’s attached to the frames of the table.

Swing Table1

The Swing Table was designed by Duffy London and it’s for sale, too. But while we love the table, we don’t really love the price – since it actually retails for £6,895 (~$11,190 USD). Guess we’ll have to resort to tipping our dining chairs back for now.
