Deadpool & Punisher Valet Trays: A Marvelous Place to Put Your Stuff

Fans of Marvel’s best badasses will want to head over to NerdyEDC’s Etsy shop today and grab one of these cool valet trays, inspired by Deadpool and The Punisher. These are perfect for holding all of your everyday carries, from wallets to watches to pocket tools. Though I’m betting Deadpool would leave a chimichanga sitting on his.

If you prefer Frank Castle’s quiet, but deadly approach to the Merc with a Mouth, that’s good too. I think his black and white skull tray is even cooler. Frank would probably have his filled up with ammo.

Each tray is handmade from KYDEX, a durable thermoplastic often used in the construction of knife sheaths and firearm holsters. They’re selling for $85(USD) each over on Etsy.

Millennium Falcon Snack Tray Has Got Chips and Dip Where It Counts

The Millennium Falcon snack tray is an elegant tray from a more civilized age. It will hold a good bit of snack food, but sadly, it doesn’t have any hidden compartments to smuggle in more.

This beautiful snack freighter was created by Texas-based Deric Peveto of Wood By Hand. These trays are made out of exotic woods that give them a fantastic look. They are perfect for any Star Wars party. You can buy one right now from Peveto’s Etsy store for $255.

Give it a parking space in your geek-themed kitchen. Also, try not to lose it to your friends in a card game okay?

KFC’s Paper Keyboard Protects Devices from Grease: Finger Clickin’ Good

The KFC Tray Typer is a paper-thin Bluetooth keyboard made so that you don’t get chicken grease on your devices. It was created as a promotional item for new KFC locations in Germany. Apparently they were a big hit.

The idea is that with a paper keyboard, you don’t get grease all over your stuff. The advertising company behind the promotion says that the Tray Typers were so popular during the period they were being handed out, that every one of the devices was taken home by customers. Yeah I can see that. That just means that people are hoarders and collectors though.

It’s a fun idea and it got them some attention that’s for sure. So I guess it worked. Great marketing.

The Luggage Trap

This luggage tray concept surely tops the ones I have seen long distance buses use. The entire tray pulls out and allows you to load the bags with ease. Next, you slide the tray back in and you’re ready to go. The difference actually is the ability of the tray to slide out completely and hold the weight of the bags thanks to the pull-down legs. A simple redesign that can work out well for the loader and his back! Relief from the strain!

Stone Serveware Au Naturale

What appears to be a random, irregular pentagon shape is actually created by simplifying the map of Seoul, capital of South Korea. Appropriately called the Seoul Tray, the marble dining piece is created with a CNC machine to achieve its protruding interior lines that provide grip and a modern aesthetic expression. In matte and polished versions, this serveware for hors d’oeuvres and wine is as elegant as it is simplistic.

Ergonomic Laptop Stand-Slash-Tray is Perfect for Those Who Love Working in Bed

Laptop Bed Desk Tray

Ever wished that you could lie in bed and work with your back propped up on your pillows when you don’t feel like getting up and walking over to your desk? Well, I have, and I would usually just lug my laptop to my bed and start working. Unfortunately, it’s a lot more taxing on my back than I’d like, since I have to hunch over my keyboard whenever I lean in to type.

There are a lot of bed stands and tables around to take care of that problem, but none like this one I just spotted today. It’s a laptop stand-slash-tray-slash bed desk that makes working from bed comfortable and ergonomic. It’s even got a mouse pad holder off to one side and a cup holder on the other for maximum comfort (and to make sure that you never get thirsty!)

Laptop Bed Desk Tray

It’s available online for $73.99.

Robot Carries Objects on Serving Trays: Robo-Butlers Around the Corner

After watching the Woody Allen classic, Sleeper for the 1000th time, I assumed that we’d all have cold, impersonal robot butlers in our homes by now. Well, it turns out that one of the main challenges for robo-butlers is their lack of ability to carry items on a tray without spilling them.

sleeper

The issue is that keeping a tray horizontal during movement will result in easy spills when moving quickly. Thankfully, the guys at Willow Garage are working on a solution.

pr2 balances trays

By developing a set of balancing motions that minimize lateral force on the object, PhD student Tobias Kunz of Georgia Tech was able to get a PR2 robot to handle delicate objects on a tray, and glasses full of liquid without so much as a spill.

With a PR2 selling for $285,000 to $400,000, I’m still not sure we’ll have robot butlers serving us martinis any time soon, the same technique can be used to help industrial robots carrying delicate objects on trays, or open containers of liquids. If you happen to have a PR2 robot lying around, you can test out the movements on your ‘bot using the path trajectory files here.

Hulu’s PlayStation 3 app upgraded, is the first for the living room to deliver the ‘new experience’

Hulu's PlayStation 3 app upgraded, is the first for the living room to deliver its 'new experience'

The folks over at Hulu have been focused on cleaning up content discovery and playback for a while, and now they've turned their collective eye to the PlayStation 3 Hulu Plus app. An update rolling out this evening brings a number of tweaks we saw hit its redesigned website in August, including the "tray-style" layout of shows, larger artwork, improved search with results that appear in the dropdown and simplified player controls. Take a peek in the gallery for a few screenshots of the new UI or after the break for an intro trailer. Although other platforms weren't mentioned specifically Hulu said the PS3 is the first living room device to show off its new experience, which leads us to believe other devices should get a similar look eventually. Subscribers can take a look on the PlayStation Network to see if they find any improvements, non-subscribers can, as usual, jump in on a free seven day trial.
