Nike Bubble Max concept sneakers will make you feel like you’re walking on the clouds

Nike Bubble Max Sneakers

If you can design a car, you can definitely design footwear. There is no limit to what a creative mind can do and Volvo automotive designer Julien Fesquet is proving once again he can create something fresh, innovative, and functional.

This isn’t the first time the designer has presented a shoe design. He shared a slew of interesting pairs a few years ago. There’s also the MICHELIN Sneakers posted prior to the NIKE Bubble MAX. The latter is the latest shoe design the top sports shoe brand may consider bringing into production.

Designer: Julien Fesquet

NIKE Bubble MAX Design

From the Nike Air Max series, sneakerheads may someday start their Nike Bubble Max collection. Of course, it still is a concept but like most unique designs from the brand, this will sell. But then again, the same pair will be hated by people with trypophobia (fear of clusters of bumps or holes).

Never mind those who have an aversion to bubbles. The Nike Bubble Max is designed with a different sole we’re assuming this works similarly to the decades-old Air Max technology. The material of the bubbly sole could also be the same with some flexible rubber with translucent Air units.

NIKE Bubble MAX Images

The closest Nike Air model we remember is the Nike Air VaporMax. That one featured a lightweight air cushion platform, integrated TPU lugs, and integrated rubber pods. Like the AirVaporMax, the Nike Bubble Max’s bubble outsole could be there to provide enhanced traction and durability.

NIKE Bubble MAX Design Concept

NIKE Bubble MAX Concept

The image renders show an upper with a dotted pattern that looks and we’re guessing feels like scales. It could be something similar to what was used on the Nike Zoom Kobe 6 “Grinch” Protro. The large Swoosh with Bubble Max written on the side appears to be painted. The tongue area simply shows a split in the middle where the sock liner is exposed. The liner extends above the ankle, giving a high-top illusion. When it comes to real function, walking on the Nike Bubble Max may feel like you’re walking on the clouds.

NIKE Bubble MAX Where to Buy

A red square Nike tag catches attention against a neutral color combination of gray and black. The heel part is where you see a hangtag. Some text branding can be seen on select bubbles. The outsole is separated in the middle as the design shows us these “bubbles” appear to have formed naturally. There are no shoelaces so we’re assuming the pair is a slip-on.

The Nike Bubble Max looks promising if the bubble outsole will work. It should be thick and durable so those can carry the weight even of the heaviest wearers. The pair can be another unique addition to a sneakerhead’s extensive collection if and when the design gets picked up by Nike.

Converse Chuck Taylor All Star CX FlyEase uses Nike’s hands-free shoe technology

Converse Chuck Taylor All Star CX FlyEase Black

The FlyEase has always been known as a Nike technology. The top sports brand has released the Nike GO FlyEase in different colorways and we can expect more pairs will be introduced. For the first time ever, Chuck Taylor is using the same technology designed to be easy to wear and take off.

Chuck Taylor is joining the Jordan Brand and Nike in the roster of brands that are coming up with FlyEase versions of popular shoe models. This proves that progress and innovation are possible even in shoe design. Sneakerheads are probably getting excited at the idea of acquiring but for those people who are main targets of the FlyEase tech, this pair from Chuck Taylor is a new option for them to really use.

Designer: Converse

Converse Chuck Taylor All Star CX FlyEase White Release

The easy on-off entry is the greatest advantage of the new Chuck Taylor All-Star FlyEase. It’s one accessible pair for those who really need it. The hands-free version of the Chuck Taylor All Star now joins the Air Jordan 1 Hi FlyEase, Nike GO FlyEase, and the Nike Air Max 90 FlyEase and we believe it won’t be the last.

The Converse Chuck Taylor All Star is one of the many must-have classics sneakerheads or non-sneakerheads should buy. But let’s admit it, tying those shoelaces can be time-consuming. For people with different abilities, it can be a pain. That is why the FlyEase technology is invented—to make wearing and removing the shoe easier for everyone.

Converse Chuck Taylor All Star CX FlyEase

Hands-free wearing can be done now with your Chucks. The ease the innovation offers is added to the classic look and feel of the Chuck Taylor All Star with its star-stuck ankle patch and canvas upper. The heel flexes feature a FlyEase cage that collapses when you step in. The canvas collar’s material is stretchable for added accessibility. To provide a more secure fit in the absence of shoelaces, the tongue is padded. The heel tab and the heel overlay have also been modified so it is easier to slip into the shoe.

Converse Chuck Taylor All Star CX FlyEase Design

Nike’s FlyEase technology isn’t just for the kids and those lazy people who hate shoelaces. It’s also for the athletes who need efficiency, speed, and convenience. It’s also for the disabled or differently-abled people as it is easier to wear and take off.

Just like those from Nike and Jordan Brand, the FlyEase shoes from Chuck Taylor are better-designed, smarter, and more adaptive. The new pair maintains the silhouette’s visual heritage. You won’t think it has something more special because the profile is almost the same with the addition of color on the sole and of course, the  FlyEase cage. Inside, there is the adjusted sock liner and insole with CX foam. These improved elements allow for more comfortable wear.

Converse Chuck Taylor All Star CX FlyEase Step In

Converse Global VP of Design & Innovation Phil Russo has this to say about the release: “By blending Nike FlyEase with the Converse CX comfort platform, we’ve crafted a progressive design, one that marries a suite of comfort-innovation technology with the added benefit of ease of entry, making the Chuck Taylor All Star more accessible to Converse fans of different abilities.”

Converse Chuck Taylor All Star CX FlyEase White Orange Sole

The Chuck Taylor All Star CX FlyEase has yet to launch in key markets beginning February 24. The pair will be out in South Korea and Greater China first. If you live in North America and Western Europe, you can start checking converse.com on March 17 to purchase. Available in either black or white version.

Cooler Master builds a Sneaker-shaped PC case delivering raw computing power inside a shoe

Cooler Master has done the unthinkable this time. Going over and above its image of designing contemporary utility PC cases, the company for its 30th anniversary has created a very unusual case in the shape of a sneaker. Wait… what?

Called Sneaker X, this custom-designed case mod is developed after a design submitted by modder JMDF for the company’s Case Mod World Series in 2020. A perfect delight for the eyes, this PC case with all the LED lighting and computer innards will really appeal to all the sneakerheads out there irrespective of their Nike or Adidas bias.

Designer: Cooler Master

Breaking the bounds of a traditional PC form factor, the Sneaker X is a blistering entrant in the sneaker culture that every fan would want to flaunt. But sadly, this sneaker is not for the feet – instead, it’s for beefing up your blockchain, adventures in the metaverse, or maybe a safe journey in burning millions on a seemingly useless (crypto miners don’t get offended) NFT.

Cooler Master has shared little information about what the Sneaker X will be compatible with. Moreover, the images don’t do enough justice to explain the size of the case, which if we believe is in tune with the JMDF’s design, should be sizeable enough to accommodate all the fancy innards you have to throw at it. As Cooler Master gives out, the custom-designed case would be able to accommodate some of the high-end GPU and CPUs to maybe allow gamers, crypto-maniacs, or a sneakerhead in you to design the PC as you’d want. After all that geek adventure, you still have the immaculate shoe shining under the desk!

There are no details yet about how the Sneaker X will be priced, but it is going to go on pre-order in Q3 of 2022. For now, just stack it against the super sexy GeForce RTX 3080 powered sneakers by NZXT, and decide for yourself which one is cooler out of the two!

Cryptide 3D Printed Sneakers will leave you feeling like Bigfoot

3D-printed objects seem to be all the rage these days. You can 3D print almost anything from toys to accessories, bike saddles, furniture, and even sneakers.

Sneakerheads may be divided on the idea but for those who value function more than form, a pair of 3D sneakers may actually work. Such can offer ergonomics that you don’t normally get from common sneakers. We’re not saying those expensive sneakers are not comfortable but they may not be enough.

Designer: Stephan Henrich

The Cryptide 3D Printed Sneakers

The Cryptide Sneaker was designed by Stephan Henrich for Sintratec. The German architect and designer came up with a pair of full 3D shoes meant to be laser sintered with a flexible TPE material. Using a Sintratec S2 System 3D printer, the shoes were formed and printed.

The Cryptide 3D Sneaker Sintratec 2

The Cryptide features a sole with an open design. The designer said it was made possible by SLS production (Selective Laser Sintering) and a material called Sintratec TPE elastomer. Simply put, SLS is an additive manufacturing that takes advantage of laser to sinter particles into a more solid 3D structure. Henrich and Sintratec worked together to bring the sneaker design into reality.

The Cryptide 3D Sneaker Sintratec

The Cryptide Big Foot Shoes

The sole is then combined with an upper shoe that is also printed and works more like a sock. The result is a shoe that will remind you of cryptids and other monsters. It’s certain that when you wear and walk with The Cryptide, “you will leave traces like a cryptid would do” as per the designer who now thinks “TPE is a great material for designing shoes.” The material is mainly soft and flexible but the shoe is rugged and thick enough in areas where it matters.

Don’t be surprised if people will suddenly call you Big Foot. The shoe will leave footprints that may probably freak out people. What they say won’t matter as the pair can be very comfortable. Since it’s 3D printed, the size and shape can adapt to the foot of the wearer.

The Cryptide 3D Designer

Customization starts by scanning your foot. The upper shoe will be printed according to your autonomy. It may look like a sock but we suggest you still wear socks with the shoes for added comfort and hygiene.

If the Parametriks Print 001 sneaker reminds you of Yeezy Foam Runners, The Cryptide will remind you of the Adidas Futurecraft 4D. We doubt this will be the last of ‘em 3D printer sneakers. The 3D print era has just begun.

This shoe combines a shoehorn with a swivel mechanism to make putting on shoes easier for everyone

Prima is an inclusive shoe design that combines a swivel mechanism with a shoehorn to allow users of varying cognitive and motor levels to put on and wear their shoes with ease.

Sometimes the most innovative solutions come from the simplest of designs. Most of us wear shoes every single day. They’re the last thing we put on as we’re leaving the house and we bring them everywhere we go. While many of us put on and wear shoes without even thinking about it, not everyone shares the same experience.

Designer: Jean-Michel Rochette

While it might seem that shoes are one size fits all, for those with degenerative joint disease or arthritis, putting on shoes first thing in the morning comes with a share of difficulties. To help solve this issue, designer Jean-Michel Rochette developed Prima, a type of shoe designed for older folks and those living with joint pain to put on and wear with ease.

1

Putting on your own shoes and tying them takes a lot of cognitive and physical effort. For people living with cognitive disorders and atypical motor tendencies, putting on shoes marks the first uphill battle of the day. Rochette conducted periods of research and prototyping to find Prima’s final form.

Prima is a comfortable, no-lace, slip-on shoe that integrates a swivel mechanism into an embedded shoehorn to allow users to easily put on and wear their shoes. The shoe features elastic bands that connect the front of the shoe with the rear, allowing users to use their free foot to tilt one Prima shoe upwards and slip their other foot into its inside.

Noticing today’s footwear industry’s trend towards mass consumption, Rochette aimed to create a shoe that fits a market current footwear brands don’t serve. Prima combines a swivel mechanism with the build of a shoehorn to turn every shoe into a slip-on.

Describing Prima in his own words, Rochette notes, “The Prima shoe allows its user to quickly put on and take off their feet without having to bend or perform any manipulations thanks to the swivel mechanism located at the back of the shoe. It eliminates physical pain and discomfort caused by different situations such as waiting and needing assistance.”

Top 10 product designs of 2021: Editor’s Choice

Let’s just say that if 2021 has us feeling anything, it’s probably a feeling of hope that 2022 won’t be such a colossal shitstorm. We’ve seen a whole bunch this year, pandemics and a global vaccination effort, civil unrest, economic ruination, supply chain issues, new tech launches despite the former, billionaires in space, and probably the most hilarious of all, a ship getting stuck in a canal. For once, however, why don’t we put that rollercoaster recap aside and look at the stuff that got us truly excited – from creative concepts to actual design announcements. Here’s a healthy, hearty recap of the most interesting designs we saw in 2021, the year gone by.

01. Nike Go FlyEase

These are the Nike Go FlyEase hand-free shoes that bring the convenience of wearing and taking off your pair without even bending over or touching them ever. People who already do this with a pair of shoes with laces (when they are too tired or lazy) to take them off the conventional style (by untying the laces) will have their eyes set on the Nike Go FlyEase. The motion of using one foot to pull down on the heel of the other and vice versa when you have the crocs or loose sneakers is what most of us do. But doing the same to a pair of shoes can deform them over time – so Nike came up with a solution that lets you do kickstand heel motion to open them up in a jiffy without any damage to the shoe material.

02. DJI Action 2

Perhaps the DJI Action 2’s most defining feature (and you’ll see it practically all their images) is the snap-on touchscreen module. Traditionally, all action cameras have lenses on the front and displays on the rear… and that’s great for filming everything except yourself. DJI’s Front Touchscreen Module basically lets you turn the action camera into a wide-angle vlogging camera. The module snaps right on and lets you attach other accessories like the tripod, selfie stick, car-mount, etc. Moreover, snapping it on doesn’t just give you a front-facing extra screen… it gives you an extra battery pack too, doubling the Action 2’s recording time to 160 minutes, and also adds extra mics for crisper audio recording – a feature that vastly benefits vloggers and influencers who want to be in the spotlight.

03. Honda RidgeLine EV

The Ridgeline EV concept comes from the mind of California-based Rene Garcia, a concept designer at ILM who’s previously worked on The Mandalorian, Thor: Ragnarok, The Avengers, and the Transformers anthology. Garcia began designing the vehicle as a Dakar rally truck, but gradual iterations slowly turned it into a conceptual pickup truck for Honda. Designed to handle pretty much anything you can throw at it, the EV comes with its own winch-hook on the front, a frunk behind it, suicide-style rear doors that give you access to the car’s spacious interiors, and an expandable truck-bed on the back that even comes equipped with tools and emergency medical kits.

04. NASA Exoskeleton

NASA has put a lot of time and effort into developing new-age spacesuits to counter the effects of gravity in hostile environments. 14 years to be exact, and it has cost them a whopping $420 million already. This jaw-dropping concept spacesuit is the work of designer Riyahd Cassiem who fuses the cool element associated with exoskeleton suits to the inter-planetary dreams we humans have embarked on. The Exo Suit Concept has an unshakeable Halo game influence to it – one can instantly relate to the fearless KAT-B320, CARTER-A259, and ALICE-130 characters. The reinforced suit is built for the harshest of situations, and the mechanical character means it is going to provide the wearer assistance in performing arduous tasks, otherwise too tedious in alien environments. Of course, it is made from lightweight yet stellar material for ultra-flexibility which is crucial.

05. Sony Walkman Music Player

The Walkman SSS (Smart Sound System) by Ja Heon Lee mashes up the modern digital with the old classic to satiate the lust for music in a niche form factor. The Sony Walkman opens up like any analog cassette player and docks the smartphone with the screen facing outwards. The information screen of the compatible music player app displays the music information through the animation which resembles the look of a cassette tape. On top of the music player, there is the detachable multi-controller which acts as an interface to control the music, take important calls or view lyrics on the fly. All this while your smartphone sits snug inside the Walkman.

06. NightWatch Apple Watch Stand

The NightWatch is a pretty simple accessory that enhances your Apple Watch’s abilities. It doesn’t come with its own charger but will let you hook your watch’s charger into it. Once assembled, you can easily slide your Apple Watch into its unique design, and that calibrated glass lens on the front enlarges the screen like a magnifying glass would, making numbers much more visible when your watch is in Nightstand mode. It comes with a patented system that even lets you tap the glass surface to ‘wake’ up your Apple Watch’s display, so you can read the time clearly… and when your watch’s alarm begins ringing, special acoustic channels designed in the NightWatch dock’s base help amplify your watch’s audio, making that alarm much louder.

07. The Shape Superyacht

Lazzarini Design is known for its eccentric future-forward creations, superyachts in particular. Christened “The Shape” this superyacht breaks all the fundamental rules of sailing and yacht design that we’ve seen so far. It has a gaping hole right in the middle (just like the ones in modern skyscrapers) that serves as the sun deck and a never-before-seen unique visual attraction. How it will address the turbulent seas when the weather is hostile, is a question for another day! The beastly concept is 69 meters long and having a draft of 3.90 meters yacht offers a living area of 35 meters past the void. It has three decks hidden in the colossal structure – the first floor having the suites, the second one being the shared living space, and the command center on the third.

08. ForeverPen

Designed as the ultimate EDC by Raja Ahmad, ForeverPen comes in a ridiculously small avatar that can fit on your keychain or around your zip, it can be worn around your neck like a minimalist pendant, or even on your bracelet, giving you a writing instrument that’s always on you. Designed to be the most convenient piece of stationery every, ForeverPen is the one pen that’s always around and always ready to write and draw. Its nib comes crafted from a proprietary silver composite that can write smoothly like a pencil would, while never running out. The technology improves on a centuries-old drawing technique called silverpoint, a craft well renowned during the late Rennaisance and even used by Leonardo da Vinci himself. In its modern iteration, the material developed for the ForeverPen is much more hard-wearing – which means it can write anywhere and on anything.

09. Hide And Seek Chair

What’s brilliant about the Hide And Seek chair by Yanagisawa Sera is its sheer absurdity… along with the fact that it actually works! Sera went straight from the drawing board to the metal workshop to test his idea out and from the looks of it, the umbrella-shaped chair works – at least on a prototype level! The frame of the umbrella was fabricated from stainless steel rods and is designed to fold right into the umbrella shape when closed. A stretched fabric mounted on the frame helps distribute the weight when you sit, allowing the chair to actually take the weight of an adult human. It does look a tad fragile if I’m being candid, but that’s something that can easily be fixed by using materials like titanium or even carbon fiber. The best part about the entire product is that it folds right back into the shape of a standard umbrella, which means you can place it in backpacks, handbags, or even carry it to the grocery store or a concert… blending right into the crowd right before you open the Hide And Seek and take a seat on the world’s only umbrella-shaped chair!

10. Xiaomi CyberDog

Quadruped technology is the talk of the robotics world. Four-legged robots are relied on by industries across the world for tasks that require a stable walking gait and agile mobility. Xiaomi, a Chinese tech company, recently unveiled more 3D renders of their own Quadruped robotic creation, CyberDog. Currently, the bio-inspired, four-legged robot has been engineered as a robotic companion whose future technical capabilities are still in development. In a recent press release from Xiaomi, it’s said that CyberDog comes complete with “AI interactive cameras [and sensors], binocular ultra-wide-angle fisheye cameras, and Intel ® RealSense™ D450 Depth module, and can be trained with its computer vision algorithm.” CyberDog’s external interface features an array of camera sensors. CyberDog’s involved vision sensor system allows the robot to carve out its own navigational map and analyze its surrounding environment in real-time, allowing it to look toward a destination and avoid physical barriers on the way.

The sneakers are best described as classics with a zest of color. They sport all-white designs, but with beautifully vibrant outsoles and heel-tabs that simply pop against their all-white background. HIRUNDO (pronounced Hee-Roon-Dough) offers 10 different color variants to choose from, ranging between subtle hues and eye-catching shades, as well as one all-black shoe because you can never have too much of a good thing!

Designed, sourced, and handmade in Portugal, the shoes champion a movement called ‘Slow Fashion’, where products are made conscientiously, with fair labor conditions, sustainable practices, and more importantly, they’re designed to last, so you don’t have to throw out your shoes every 4-5 years to buy a fresh pair. The sneakers are built using fair-trade leather, rubber, cloth, cork, and other components that are sourced just a few hours away from the factory in the town of Porto. Designed not just to empower local businesses, it also helps reduce the shoes’ carbon impact, because materials aren’t shipped from across the globe. The makers point out that the HIRUNDO sneakers aren’t just certified carbon-neutral, they’re fair-trade too, with workers being paid fair wages and being employed under worker-approved conditions.

Are the sneakers groundbreaking? Debatable. Do they count your steps and send stats to your phone? I doubt it. Do they decrease your sprint time by 5 seconds? Probably not. They’re a proof-of-concept that shows that shoes can look great, feel comfortable, and last long without costing a lot, resulting in wasteful practices, or unsafe worker conditions. The HIRUNDO are designed to be guilt-free, and to show that companies CAN pursue ‘slow fashion’ if they want to. The sneakers are lightweight, comfortable, and have an aesthetic that you’re sure to fall in love with… but most importantly, they’re designed to last – because as the video clearly points out, “we don’t throw away what we love… right?”

These sustainable sneakers are made from fruit waste!

Sneaker culture is technically a part of fast fashion which contributes largely to the mounting waste problem. But if you can find a cool pair that is sustainably designed right down to its packaging, like the Hana sneakers then we’re all here for it! Designed by Italian sneaker brand ID.EIGHT, not only is this paid unisex and cruelty-free but it is made from materials that are by-products of the food industry and are counted as waste – apple skin and hearts, grape skin, seeds, and pineapple leaves!

Since the textile industry is the second most polluting in the world and intensive farming is a plague for the planet, the brand chose to produce the sneakers in Italy using only ecological and cruelty-free materials. Inspired by the 90s with references to the navy look, the sustainable shoes express the ironic and dynamic style of ID.EIGHT. The contrast between the upper in white recycled polyester and the AppleSkin details in shades of red and blue create a mix of contemporary and light colors.

They use four materials derived from apples, grapes, seeds, and pineapples. Piñatex , made with the waste leaves of pineapple grown in the Philippines; Vegea , obtained from the bio-polymerization of marc in Italy; AppleSkin , obtained from the bio-polymerization of apple peels and cores always in Italy. It features lycra and recycled mesh for inserts on the upper, sole, laces, and the label is also made of recycled materials.

The pineapple industry produces around 40,000 tons of leaves every year and is considered a waste material they are usually left to rot or burn. Today it is possible to recover them to create a biodegradable and cruelty-free material. With 480 leaves (16 pineapple plants) it is possible to obtain 1 square meter of material.

Over 7 million tons of marc are discarded every year by the wine sector, an unacceptable waste

Stalks, skins, and grape seeds are part of the “marc”, the residue of the grape juice extraction process. Today it is a strong, sustainable and flexible material. 310 million new plastics are produced and placed on the market every year, and only 9% of this is recycled which is why they chose to use recycled plastic for some components of the sneakers, such as the laces, the label, and the ribbon. The sole is also made up of 30% recycled rubber!

“In recent years, the amount of agri-food waste used to make sustainable products has gone from 0 to over 30 tons per month. A great resource is used to produce, for example, the ‘paper’ used for handkerchiefs and kitchen rolls, and the material we use for our sneakers,” adds the team. Even the packaging is sustainable, it is made with recycled cardboard and the shipping bags are made from at least 80% recycled polyethylene and are 100% recyclable. You will also find a ball of earth and seeds covered with clay – plant in a pot or throw in a gray area of your city to spread some flower power!

Nike x Swarovski Air Force Ones: Just Don’t Do It

Because questionable product collaborations come in all shapes and sizes, Nike and Swarovski have teamed up to produce these $450 crystal-accented Air Force Ones. Available in all black and all-white colorways, the sneakers are covered with Swarovski studded webbed panels, which are removable with an included Nike branded flathead screwdriver. Me? I just want the screwdriver.

At first glance, I really thought they were Christmas lights and not crystals, which made a lot more sense to me. Make them light up red and green and add some candy cane striped laces and you’ve got the perfect pair of sneakers to compliment an ugly Christmas sweater this holiday season.

Like my favorite substitute teacher in high school, Mrs. Gitland used to say, “Different strokes for different folks.” And maybe gaudy Swarovski studded Nikes are your stroke. I’m not here to judge you for your idea of design, I’m just here to wonder what your living room must look like.
