The world’s first 4-in-1 Mop Vacuum Cleaner uses hot water to efficiently deep-clean floors

Ask any household and they’ll tell you the secret to spanking clean floors. Simply sweeping/vacuuming your floors doesn’t get the job done, just the way simply wiping a plate after eating in it doesn’t make it clean. Like with your plate, your floors need to be washed too. I don’t mean turning your house into a slip-n-slide, I mean wet-mopping. Every Indian household has a two-step cleaning process – first, sweep the dust away, second, take a wet mop (often combined with a chemical cleaning agent) and wipe your house clean. The OSOTEK HotWave wants to bring that same two-step cleaning process to all houses. Designed to have a wet and dry mopping feature, OSOTEK is the world’s first 4-in-1 mop vacuum cleaner with a built-in water heater that efficiently wipes/mops and de-odorizes your floor in a way that’s just as effective as a floor disinfectant, yet without any of the chemicals.

The OSOTEK HotWave makes cleaning ‘intelligent’. It single handedly handles vacuuming, mopping, self-cleaning, and self-drying. All you really need to do is remove the OSOTEK HotWave from its dock and use it the way you’d use a standard vacuum cleaner. Once you’re done vacuuming and heated water-mopping, the smart dock takes over, restoring your OSOTEK HotWave to its cleanest state for the next time you need to use it. In a move comparable to ‘Who watches the Watchmen’, the OSOTEK HotWave actually cleans itself after each use, so you don’t have to.

The phrase ‘intelligent cleaning’ isn’t just some marketing catchphrase. The OSOTEK HotWave is quite literally a smart cookie. It comes equipped with an infrared sensor that can detect how dirty your floor is and adjust the suction power automatically in real-time. This, in effect, reduces your need to constantly run the vacuum over a spot to clean it. The variable suction power intensifies when the OSOTEK HotWave detects more dirt, and reduces when your floor is relatively dirt-free, saving you energy while also conserving battery.

The Osotek HotWave even has a built-in ‘superthermal’ heater that heats the water inside its tank up to temperatures of 197°F or 92°C for mopping. Designed to work equally well on marble, vitrified tiles, and on hardwood floors, the Osotek HotWave’s hot-water mopping feature works on spills, stains, grease, etc. to clean out even the toughest marks, leaving your floor more spotless than a conventional vacuum cleaner.

It comes with two water tanks – a 750ml tank for fresh water, and a 640ml tank for used water that gets sucked right back into the mop once it’s done cleaning your floor. What about solid waste? Well, the OSOTEK HotWave filters dust/dirt/debris and other solid matter out, storing it in a separate compartment for easier cleaning.

Based on how clean or dirty your space is, the OSOTEK HotWave offers 3 modes of use – the Turbo mode tackles heavy dirt such as grease and sauce in the kitchen; the Automatic mode is ideal for daily residue and stains cleaning in the living room; and the Water-absorbing (or suction) mode is calibrated to handle all dust and dirt around the house and water absorption in the bathroom. Once you’re done cleaning your space, the OSOTEK HotWave does a second round of cleaning… this time, however, it cleans itself. Designed to serve two important purposes, the OSOTEK HotWave’s self-cleaning and self-drying functions help maintain your mop so that you don’t have to, but more importantly, it prevents odors, molds, and bacteria formation caused by a dirty, wet mop-head (the OSOTEK HotWave uses hot 58°C air to quickly dry the mop head, preventing bacteria formation). In turn, once the OSOTEK HotWave self-dries, it can easily be used again to clean other parts of your house.

At the press of a button, the station uses hot water and a sterilizing heat bath to thoroughly sanitize the OSOTEK HotWave in its entirety after the vacuum is placed back in the base station.

The OSOTEK HotWave comes along with its own intelligent base station that handles pre-cleaning and post-cleaning tasks while also charging your OSOTEK HotWave mop. The base station comes with a 3000ml water reservoir that helps replenish and refill the tank in your OSOTEK HotWave up to 4 times over, helps with heating the water up, and even assists in the OSOTEK HotWave’s self-cleaning and self-drying activities.

Designed to be compact, efficient, and intuitive, the OSOTEK HotWave sports a 4000mAh battery that gives it 35 minutes of run-time. If and when the battery runs low, the cleaner uses voice prompts, telling you to recharge it. The OSOTEK HotWave comes with 9 built-in languages that power its voice prompts, and the cleaner gives you constant status updates on the OSOTEK HotWave’s functions, battery, temperature levels, and cleaning status. For good measure, it comes with an LED display too.

The OSOTEK HotWave is priced at a respectable $499, putting it in the same range as other vacuum cleaners (even the high-end ones from Dyson), although it sits in a class apart as the only 4-in-1 mop vacuum cleaner to have a built-in water heater as well as self-drying and self-cleaning capabilities. It comes with an ergonomic design and a long telescopic handle that’s easy to use and maneuver, along with an intelligent base station that not only charges/cleans/maintains your Osotek HotWave, but it also acts as a storage unit for extra accessories like new mop-heads. The OSOTEK HotWave is currently crowdfunding on Kickstarter, while simultaneously beginning mass production to roll the device out to backers.

Dust Box lets you clean your house in an old-school design

Living in a relatively small apartment, I have no need for a full vacuum cleaner as it takes up space and is also not that easy to maneuver at times. That’s why I’m always on the lookout for good handheld vacuums or robot vacuums that will make it easier and more convenient to clean my place. Design is not always a consideration unless it does help in the cleaning process. This product design for an old-school-looking handheld vacuum seems interesting, although I’m not sure if it does add extra value to how it will clean the room.

Designer: Fernando Maldonado

The Dust Box doesn’t exactly look like any of the current handheld vacuums in the market as it gives off a classic look with its boxy shape. It is intentional as they’re going for the old-school look of vacuum cleaners that we might have used in the 80s or 90s, except that this one is not attached to a bigger body. At first glance it looks like a container of some kind and in a way, it is indeed a container of all the dust, trash, and small particles around the house.

We don’t have much information about this product concept and we can base our “review” only on the photos provided. It seems to have all the basic parts you will need for a basic vacuum cleaner. A handle to carry it around, a nozzle to pick up all the trash, and a box to store up all these and then eventually dump them out. The nozzle doesn’t seem to be that flexible so I don’t know how it will be able to reach under the sofa and in some crevices where you need something a bit softer or longer.

What this design does bring is much more room to store the dirt and trash, something that’s missing from a lot of the more modern vacuums. I constantly have to open, throw out, and start cleaning all over again several times, using my hand held vacuum. What I don’t know is if that box is just for storing trash or if the other mechanisms for the vacuum is there and then just a small space for the dirt. All I know is that the Dust Box seems simple enough to use, a requirement for a lot of us who don’t have patience for all the bells and whistles that some cleaning devices have.

Furniture meets vacuum cleaner with this bagless design that hides in a cork sidetable

Make way for this cork-body vacuum cleaner – a fascinating concept that conceives a vacuum cleaner in a sustainable form factor that can double as furniture after use.

The market is flooded with corded, cordless, bagged, and bagless vacuum cleaners.  These are now stylish for modern interiors, absolutely noiseless, and of course, don’t leave behind trash to clean. But unfortunately, after using all of them need to be stacked in the corner for they wouldn’t play out for any other purpose. This conceptual appliance emphasizes the proposition of reuse. When not being used for its intended purpose of cleaning, the entire contraption can retire into a cylindrical body which then functions as furniture.

This intriguing concept for a vacuum cleaner is not only multipurpose in design, it is also sustainable in construction. The storage section of the vac is made from cork, which is biodegradable and has a warm ambiance to it. The vacuum pipes and other parts are designed in a manner to be stored within the cork shell that then neatly covers using a lid. The possibility of concealing the entire appliance from sight saves valuable space at home and leaves the vacuum to still be used in the open with a different purpose.

Measuring about 45cm in height, it can be used at home as an additional piece of furniture, for instance as a side table or even as a stool. The parts on the inside of the contraption, except for the motor of the vacuum cleaner, are all made out of biodegradable plastic. The mouth of this cork storage container is closed using interchangeable lids made from darkened ash, which allows it also to be used as a chair in one configuration. For the functionality of the vacuum, it is a cylindrical bagless model which can be used for extensive cleaning and then packed back for a different purpose.

This vacuum cleaner designed for small spaces breaks down into 4 parts to save storage space!

H5 is a multifunctional vacuum cleaner designed for small spaces that can break down into four parts that fit into a compact charging bin for easy storage.

While living tiny is all the rage nowadays, it takes some skill to keep small city spaces clean. Especially when you live in an old apartment building or with pets, vacuuming becomes a daily chore. While vacuuming small spaces goes by quickly, storing a bulky vacuum cleaner becomes a nuisance just as quickly. To keep small spaces clean without the pain of storing big cleaning appliances, industrial designer Yipeng Zhu ideated a space-saving multifunctional vacuum cleaner called H5 that shrinks down to almost a ⅓ of its height.

H5 keeps an overall slim build when assembled and when disassembled so it doesn’t take up too much space in storage. When disassembled, H5 breaks down into four parts and fits into one charging case that can easily slip away behind any table or into the closet to free up floor space.

When users would like to use the vacuum, putting H5 together comes just as easily as putting together any other vacuum. The main pipe connects via telescopic tubing where the vacuum head also easily attaches.  Equipped with modular parts, H5 comes with three different vacuum heads that can be switched out for various cleaning needs.

A cylindrical brush is ideal for cleaning up dustballs and stubborn carpet stains. While the other two rectangular heads come in two different sizes to fit into tight corners and behind doors. Even the hose and pipe of H5 take on a narrow, cylindrical build to ensure it can fit underneath the bed and even under the refrigerator to pick up the dust that’s harder to reach with traditional, bulky vacuums.

A solid collection of electrical cleaning appliances is essential for tiny living spaces–especially when you reside in a big city. However, the majority of most electrical appliances are designed for large homes, prioritizing the small technical details over versatility and portability.

H5 is a vacuum cleaner that can tuck away into the smallest of crawlspaces (or literally wherever there’s room) when not in use and whose small assembled size allows it to get to the hardest-to-reach corners of your apartment when cleaning.

Designer: Yipeng Zhu

Intuitive controls and signals outfit H5’s entire build.

H5 comes with three different brush heads to ensure the ideal tool for each cleaning job.

The compact charging case is small enough to tuck away into any corner or closet.

Shrinking down to what seems like a 1/3 of H5’s assembled height, the charging case is an ultimate space-saver.

The Roborock H7 is lighter + more powerful than Dyson’s vacuum cleaners, and comes with magnetic accessories

It might be a must-have in every modern household, but did you know the vacuum cleaner was invented 120 years ago in 1901? The vacuum cleaner is perceived as such a contemporary household gadget, but it predates the popup toaster by as many as 6 years, and the ballpoint pen by 37 years. Heck, it even existed before teabags and instant coffee. Goes to show how our modern life isn’t so modern at all, although technology’s certainly played a major role in turning the vacuum cleaner into the absolute versatile gizmo it is today. It’s certainly something the folks at Roborock focus on, as they engineer the future into their line of vacuum cleaners. Roborock’s H7 vacuum cleaners also combine unique and innovative tech features that set them apart, from the high-power LiPO battery that gives the cleaner a whopping 90-minute run time, to the motor that automatically boosts suction when it’s cleaning a carpet, or the noise-suppressor built into the back which makes cleaning a relatively low-decibel chore, to even the fact that the vacuum cleaner now comes with a magnetic wall-mounted holster that lets you easily snap accessories and attachments to it (instead of storing them in your attic). The vacuum cleaner may have a 120-year history, but the guys at Roborock are more intent on looking 10 years ahead rather than behind.

There’s an archetype of the regular vacuum cleaner that the Roborock H7 is determined to shatter. It isn’t clunky, fidgety, noisy, or even wired. Styled like a futuristic gadget, the wireless vacuum cleaner weighs a mere 3.2lbs or 1.4 kilograms (that’s half as much as Dyson’s latest V15 vacuum), making it easy to maneuver around the house and even clean tough-to-reach areas like the ceiling. It still comes with a powerful 480W motor that generates an industry-leading 160 air watts of suction, enough to make cleaning so easy, you’ll be done in no time.

The lightweight vacuum cleaner sits within its wall-mounted docking station, charging fully in under 2.5 hours. The dock comes with a magnetic platform (codenamed the MagBase) that lets you easily attach the H7’s cleaning heads and accessories, snapping them off when you need to use them. Each cleaner comes with the signature multi-surface brush that works equally well on floors as on carpets (and comes with anti-static carbon-fiber bristles to protect your carpets and rugs), along with a motorized mini brush for cushions and mattresses, a dusting brush, and a crevice nozzle for small hard-to-reach areas. The accessories connect to the vacuum either directly, or via an extendable baton, or flexible tube.

The H7 also focuses on a largely ignored part of the vacuum cleaning experience (or the part that’s the most difficult to ignore) – the noise. As air passes through the cleaner, it goes through its advanced airflow management system that filters the air out while dampening the sound too, through a series of noise suppressors, acoustic baffles, and resonance isolators. The air gets filtered too, going through 5-layers of HEPA filtration, and all the dust and dirt finally gets collected in the H7’s dust bag that automatically seals as you remove it, preventing the dust or dirt from leaking out. The H7’s filters, cyclone, and dust-chamber are washable too, so you never have to mount a dusty vacuum cleaner back up on your wall when you’re done making your house look as good as new!

This vacuum cleaner works silently by simply rotating a knob and doesn’t need electricity!

Vacuuming can seem like a big task but this clever non-electric vacuum cleaner works by your small actions! OMIT doesn’t compare in power to a traditional vacuum cleaner, but works silently and is handy – something we all wish we could say about our Karen coworkers! The best part about OMIT is that it requires NO electricity, making it a perfect off-the-grid and sustainable essential.

The designer thought of this idea while living with flatmates because he couldn’t use the noisy vacuum cleaner during weekdays. “I realized that about 70% of users can use vacuum cleaner only on the weekends, because of noise and trouble with cables. Even rechargeable ones, can forgotten to recharge. However, more than 80% of people use it for house cleaning. Furthermore, I found that before electric vacuum cleaners, manual vacuum cleaners were used in the 19th century. I thought that vacuum cleaners can be less noisy and more handy by omitting electricity,” said Morita on what inspired him to make OMIT.

This compact vacuum works by turning the knob several times and the force is transmitted to the suction fan while increasing the number of turns by a special mechanism. OMIT requires 5 turns of the knob to work for 10 seconds. So in order to make enough suction power, the mechanism works with several key elements. First is the planetary gear which increases the number of turns from 1 to 600. However, the gear needs to have huge force to turn. In order to create this huge force, the mechanism has a torque spring as the second key element. It not only transmits rotation power, but it also accumulates rotation power which in turn makes OMIT work longer. The third key element is the needle bearing that only rotates in one direction and transmits the force of the torque spring to the planetary gear steadily. The dust that is collected goes into a washable container which is easy to clean and maintain. The design features a new suction mechanism which makes it is possible to arrange all components linearly.

OMIT uses the Free Wheel Principle in its mechanism where pulling a string makes a wheel spin constantly with the centrifugal force of the wheel. However, the action of pulling the string can make the nozzle position unstable and the action is physically hard to keep suction power long enough. The key was to figure out how to control the air direction. “In order to make spinning more easy and stable, I added torque spring and planetary gear. The combination makes small action translate to big number of spins. When I found the principle, I designed the optimal component layout which defined the minimal shape,” explains Morita.

Not using electricity challenges the traditional handheld vacuum cleaners. OMIT could be a new typology within cleaning products – more powerful than the broom while using fewer resources than the vacuum cleaner! Even its form is different from its counterparts because the appearance comes from the functional aspect and usability itself, it is minimal yet powerful and solves the issue of noise + electricity consumpotion. OMIT is ideal for cleaning small spaces such as kitchens and desktops as well as car interiors – in fact, this might just motivate you to clean those nooks more often!

This Smart Pet Care Robot keeps your floor clean while feeding and playing with your dog!

I trust that I’m not far off in assuming that many of us have considered adopting a pet at least once during the quarantine. But they can be a lot of work and sometimes we bite off more than we can chew. Some pet owners have busy schedules and work their pet’s needs around them, or others might seek out help from a professional dog sitter. Whatever the case may be, Taeuk Ham was awarded the Silver A’Design for his design, Puro, the pet care robot, in order to lighten the load.

Puro is a multi-functional, autonomous robot that does…a lot. It implements three distinct modes: play, clean, and air purification. In ‘play’ mode, Puro tosses dog treats when your pet is left alone in order to help alleviate some of your dog’s anxiety. Once the treat is tossed and your pup is munching, Puro enters ‘clean’ mode and vacuums over any fallen crumbs. From there, Puro operates as an air purifier to neutralize odors and suck in loose hairs or strands of fur. One of the many features that come with Puro is the smart cleaning function. Similar to the smart robot vacuum, Puro meanders around your floor in order to collect dust, dirt, hairs, and fur, avoiding your pup and other household items along the way.

Moreover, while you’re away, Puro extends its fully-integrated dog-feeding station and also tosses treats in your pup’s direction with help from an implanted camera that maps out the floor and a gyroscopic sensor that tracks angular velocity throughout any given room. This ensures that, even when you aren’t home, your pet’s eating schedule isn’t compromised. Another aspect that distinguishes this design from other smart robot vacuums is the embedded air-purifier that operates with an incorporated air filter located in the machine’s charging station. Once Puro has completed its cleaning of the living room and feeding your pet their lunch or dinner, the vacuum slinks its way into the main charging station to turn the air-purifying function on, which cools down the top, cushioned layer of Puro that doubles as a dog bed.

While Puro certainly maintains an eating schedule for your animal friend and cleans up their space for you, you can still take your dog for nice, long walks come evening time and develop that special, close bond during the hours you’re home from work. Furthermore, if you live alone and find yourself cutting corners and speeding around the clock to keep your dog’s eating on schedule, then Puro certainly takes some of that pressure from your shoulders. Having a pet takes responsibility and while Puro, or any other robot, can’t replace that close kinship we feel towards animals, it can help preserve a certain degree of trust between you and your puppy.

Ex-Samsung Engineers design a 1.2lbs handheld vacuum that equals your Dyson in power!

As a grown-up, do you get excited about vacuum cleaners or are you not normal? From someone who did it as a chore, as I have gotten older vacuuming has been giving me that certain joy you experience when you watch satisfying visual ASMR-like videos. The things on top of my wishlist have quickly changed from sneakers to $400 vacuums and now that I’ve discovered the Montanc, I am glad I can have both!

Montanc was designed by ex-Samsung engineers to give you exactly what you need in a handheld vacuum without burning a hole in your pocket – powerful suction, lightweight, compact, durable, and never misses a spot! Usually, handheld vacuums are considered a short-term investment. They don’t have good suction, can fall apart easily, and are just an added cleaning measure after you use the large vacuum because they can’t get inside crevices. The engineers addressed the two major pain points from the consumer market research – upright vacuums are bulky and handheld vacuums are flimsy.

This product was created to change how we perceive handheld vacuums all together with its clever engineering and attentive design that makes cleaning effortless. The strongest handheld vacuum on the market has a suction power of 12,000 PA while Montanc gives you 15,000 PA which is equivalent to a Dyson vacuum! Weighing only 1.18 lbs (525 g), this appliance has been made for everyday use which accounts for wear and tear. It is also easy to empty the dirt from the vacuum, it contains a double safety mechanism that twists the gadget as you press the button and lets you empty/wash the reusable canister. This prevents unexpected disassemble of dirt from the sack. But unlike its competition, Montanc’s weight doesn’t justify its strength and durability. Combined with a set of versatile nozzles, you can clean every crack, corner and crevice.

It has two power modes: Mode I and Mode II. The first one has the suction power of 6,000 PA and picks up your typical-sized particles and debris in a blink of an eye. The second one picks up microparticles that can’t be seen by the naked eye as well as larger chunks of debris with the suction power of 15,000 PA. Mode I can be used for 30 mins and Mode II can be used for 9 mins after one charging cycle. You can switch between the modes by pressing one button and it clears up everything from pollen to your girlfriend’s hair – no really, the fade-free suction sucks the hair in one second!

“Such power is only possible because of our Brushless Direct Current ++ motors (BLDC++ in short). This 120w motor clocks in at 76,000rpm which allows Montanc to produce 15kPa while staying insanely compact” says the team of engineers on the technology that makes Montanc stand out from the rest of its peers. Its good to be used on carpets too along with being car-friendly. Lastly, its minimal and elegant design means it doesn’t have to be stashed away in a closet and you can keep it outside too – it can be used right when the cookie crumbles! Powerful vacuums are heavy. Smaller vacuums are weak. But if you want the best of both worlds, this vacuum is your Hannah Montanc-na.
