This modular desk system for offices creates plenty of different configurations by working just like scrabble!

Like it or not, for many of us, the spaces where we work affect the quality of our work. Whether you’re working on a personal film project for hours on end or endlessly typing in order to meet a deadline, our physical space affects our mental space. This can get a little tricky when we’re working in office spaces simply because there’s more to work with: more space, more furniture, more people. Shift Studio, a design firm based in Monterrey, Mexico devoted to holistic problem-solving, recently debuted a large-scale answer to office design woes, with their modular desk system for workspace environments.

Desko is an adaptive and modular workspace solution for today’s ever-changing and multi-functional offices. Desko’s “desking” system represents a low-SKU-based design, which means it comprises few variant parts, prioritizing a multitude of office arrangements over different single desk variations. Opting for a low-SKU-based design also means that Desko takes up less space in storage and requires fewer parts for assembly and setup. In order to accommodate offices of varying sizes from the small, one-room startup office to larger corporate buildings, Desko’s “desking” system can easily be reduced or added upon depending on an office’s needs. With the ability to acclimate to any given office setup, the makers at Shift Studio say, “The Desko ‘desking’ system is based on the availability of 12 SKUs that enable the creation of 500+ workspace solutions that range from simple desks, to telemarketing solutions, [and from] ‘L’ and ‘H’ shapes to conference tables and virtually any shape.”

In order to attach one table to another table, a removable support metal beam securely fastens one desk with another and so on. Since all the tables are quadrilateral in shape, they latch onto one another much like how we move around in tile-based video games. Each desk also caters to office electronics thanks to the built-in desk hole grommets that allow room for cables and wires to plug into nearby sockets. While the desks generally look pretty uniform, Shift Studio included different surface options to indulge those who prefer warmer wooden desks over glacial steel. These surface options range from prism white, light grey, dark grey, natural oak, urban ash, and imperial walnut. Assembly and setup for Desko won’t involve any drills, hammers, or screwdrivers – all you’ll need are your own two hands, a few nuts and bolts, and some help from coworkers.

Japanese tea rituals inspired this flexible, modular, origami-like wooden table!

Tea time is significant in many Asian cultures, it is a moment of pause in the day where one can enjoy a peaceful moment of solitude or socialize and relax with friends. Tea time is a beautiful ritual in Japanese culture and Hasu is a tea table inspired by that zen practice. Hasu transforms itself as the tea ritual progresses making it a contemporary piece of furniture that still pays a tribute to the process.

It starts as a minimal compact structure and ends as a complete furniture set for tea time. Hasu’s design allows storing an extensive tea collection while presenting it in a unique and clean manner – it is almost like you can fold or unfold the tea time ritual like origami. There is a lot of storage for all the objects needed for tea rituals and the table allows you to present them one by one during tea time, it is all on-site so everything is handy as well as neatly tucked away. The unfolding of the four upper tabletops marks the beginning of the tea time ritual. Extend the seating to four guests by simply pulling the floor chairs from the table. Even when it is not in use, it still upgrades the space as an abstract piece.

Hasu is produced using several construction techniques (traditional + modern) and different types of wood joineries. The body is crafted from solid oak and features powder-coated aluminum details. It includes a brand new hinge system that was specifically designed for Hasu. The simple yet innovative design gives tea lovers a chance to elevate their rituals without adding clutter. It allows you to disconnect from the surroundings and cherish peaceful moments with loved ones while enjoying the warmth of the teacup in your palms.

“Just like an opening lotus flower, when the first rays of sun caress the horizon during sunrise, symbolizes the start of a new day,” says Mortelmans while perfectly describing the soul of Hasu.

This tripod-inspired adjustable desk goes from sitting to standing while working from home!

Nowadays, many of us are working from home and that means our workspaces are probably also benefitting from some home makeover projects. Being able to work comfortably from your own living space is critical for not just a steady workflow, but also for both maintaining and preserving our mental health. With the disaster of a year that was 2020, the need for a relaxed work-from-home space could not be overstated. Inspired by today’s unprecedented working culture, the creatives at Intension Design came out with their Tripod Standing Desk, an adjustable, portable, and multifunctional desk designed specifically to confront the restlessness and inconvenience that too often accompanies working from home.

The desk itself is carved from Baltic birch and its supplementary, multifunctional tripod is constructed from aircraft-grade aluminum. The Tripod Standing Desk comes with its tabletop in either Baltic birch, walnut, black, or white, a multifunctional tripod and carrying case, a quick-release plate, and finally, two non-scratch laptop stops for angled working. Once the standing desk’s preferred height, anywhere between 1.8 and 4.8 feet, and angle, which can rest at an incline or lay flat, is chosen then users will only have to tighten the tripod’s quick-release clamps like they would with a typical tripod used to mount cameras. Additionally, the Tripod Standing Desk is portable and only weighs 4.5 pounds, making it easy to work in tight spaces while traveling or changing rooms.

Already making the good kind of waves across plenty of digital platforms, the Tripod Standing Desk’s immovable stability is achieved from a mathematically proven ratio defined by the tabletop’s 12-inch length and 16-inch width and the tripod’s maximum three-foot width. With the onset of Tripod Standing Desk’s launch, many users were hopeful to see a larger tabletop option in the future. Addressing this request, the designers also explain why working with a larger tabletop could be difficult, “The problem with a bigger tabletop is it becomes harder to maintain balance since the desk is resting on a tripod…we have decided to stay away from a bigger tabletop for now since it’s not as stable.”

While a larger tabletop might be out of the question for Intension Design, for an additional cost, the desk comes with a clamp-on platform for extra functional space ideal for either a mouse or other working accessory. Proving what can get done with just one wooden tabletop and an adjustable tripod, teachers and yoga instructors alike have chosen the Tripod Standing Desk for their work-from-home spaces because, with changeable heights and angles, the Tripod Standing Desk can be used for anything from home fitness instruction to painting.

Redefine and elevate your food + dining experience with these innovative cutlery designs!

Some designs are timeless – look at spoon for example. The functionality and the form of the design are so tied in together, there is very little innovation needed to make this design successful. Or so we thought until we came across these cutlery designs by our favorite product designers!

Designed by Francesco Brunetti, the Disconnect series breaks down cutlery into its separate elements, but at the same time retains a sense of minimalism. The slick handle comes with a slim, cylindrical design and a matte-finish, while the functional end of the cutlery uses a balanced, geometric approach with a slight satin finish. The cutlery series was envisioned in silver, space grey, gold, and rose-gold, and I can’t really testify to whether it would be comfortable to use, but I’ll be damned if I don’t admit how incredibly eye-catching they are!

Chris Granneberg attacks the cutlery designed exercise as a way to improve the plastic usage habits across the world. ‘On the Go’ cutlery handles this problem from a different angle – helping you store these reusable utensils once they are dirty! The cutlery set comes with a small case that helps you store your soiled dinnerware so nothing gets dirty while on the go – after all, a tissue can only save your utensils once!

Have you ever felt that your meals required just a little more suspense? If yes, then Flyde by Felix Marx is for you! The name Flyde, meaning ‘To flow’ in Danish hints towards the unique selling point of this rather beautiful cutlery set, as it introduces an element of drama to the tabletop by precariously balancing on its sculpture-like handle.

The Celery cutlery set uses an almost inception-like simplicity to inspire the users to eat more vegetables. How do you ask? By replicating the minimal texture found on the celery stalks! The inspiration struck the designers whole by observing people dip their vegetable sticks into a dip before eating, bringing this beautiful bumpy texture of celery into their design and present it in a delicate and unobtrusive way onto spoon, fork, and knife.

Oh, Game of Thrones, whatever our take on the faults of the final season, one thing remains, we can’t ignore the series or the impact it had on our lives with hours of discussions, theories and lets not even get started on the number of inspired souvenirs I own! But all that is pushed aside with just one look at these elaborately crafted spoons, designed in collaboration between HBO and Magnum as a part of their limited-edition collection, with each design representing the houses that played a part in the show in an iconic manner. From the gleaming red and gold Lannister-worthy engraving to the stark fierceness of the northerners, each of these spoons completely defines the characteristics that made this series such an epic exercise in storytelling.

Get your camp-like vibes ongoing with Pierre Doucet’s cutlery design. The cutlery is designed to be exposed to a lot of wear and tear – and the thread that holds it all together can be easily replaced in case of tearing! Each piece of cutlery comes with a hole built into the design that allows you to tie it together, put it on a keyring, or even hang it to your belt using a carabiner – a cutlery set as rugged as you want it to be!

Elegant and elegantly different, Nendo’s minimal cutlery design looks the way it does for a reason. The eye-catching scoop detail not only gives the cutlery visual character, but it also helps you rest/dock your spoons, forks, and knives easily on a rack, stand, or even against other cutlery. Designed for Belgian furniture and home accessories brand Valerie Objects, the cutlery series is aptly titled ‘skeleton’, after its bony, skeletal appearance.

Inspiration can strike anywhere, that much is clear after seeing FooDesigner’s KR Cutlery Set. For this design, he takes inspiration from the motif of the Korean flag. The design identity has been substituted into the long-standing Korean food culture.

Designed to spearhead the BYOC movement with cutlery that’s always together and with you, the Magware by Full Windsor uses a nifty magnetic system to combine spoon, fork, and knife into one single organized set. Rather than physically integrating pieces of cutlery into a single solution like the spork or the splade, Full Windsor simply attached magnets to them, giving you the ability to carry all your cutlery in a single, convenient unit. Magware (a magnetically attached portmanteau of the words magnets and flatware) allows you to carry separate pieces of cutlery, but together. The trio of flatware just snap together instantly, making sure you can easily carry all three pieces of cutlery in a unified set without accidentally forgetting one of them behind.

Inspired by the shape of leaves, Linden’s flatware boast of an organic design that embraces style more than a function-led form language. The cutlery kit comes with two spoons (a tablespoon and a dessert spoon), a fork, a knife, and a pair of chopsticks, packaged wonderfully in a steel case with a bamboo lid. The case is aptly sized to fit right into backpacks, making it easy to carry around, and the bamboo lid conveniently doubles up as a resting platform for the chopsticks when in use!

Titled the Pebble, these gorgeously vivid and funky cutlery tools are a collaboration between Pentatonic and i am OTHER, a creative collective assembled by Pharrell, and are made mostly from recycled materials. The unusually vibrant cutlery set is named after the pebble-shaped container it comes in. The colored container is made using plastic recycled from music CDs, and perfectly houses a spoon, knife, fork, a pair of chopsticks, and even a collapsible drinking straw. Plastic handles for the cutlery are crafted from recycled food packaging, while the cutlery themselves are crafted from steel, with a highly durable anodized titanium coating for strength as well as to give the cutlery their unmistakable vibrant purple hue. Talk about having a conversation starter!

This 5-piece travel cutlery set has to be one of the most stylish ones I’ve ever seen

Portability seems to be a very coincidental element of the Linden Travel Cutlery Set’s design. Minus the case, it looks like the kind of fine flatware you’d have in your house (and probably only take out when the guests come over), so the fact that you can slip them into a travel case and carry them around seems like a very interesting feature!

Created as a stylish, convenient, and reusable alternative to disposable plastic cutlery, the Linden Portable Cutlery Set hopes to spearhead the Bring Your Own Cutlery movement and reduce the tonnes of plastic waste entering landfills and our oceans each year. Combine that noble purpose with Linden’s stylish design and the three color options, and you’ve got yourself an absolute winner!

The Four Seasons shakers are quite literally perfection. Capturing four different types of seasoning, and embodying them in snow-globe-esque containers, Qualy Design’s Four Seasons shakers are just simply clever and adorable at the same time. Not only are they well designed, but the absolutely witty wordplay also makes the product even more lovable! You’ve got four shakers that embody four different seasons and hold four different seasonings. Designed for salt, pepper, dried herbs, and chili flakes, the shakers come with plants on the inside that pair well with the seasoning.

Oh, Game of Thrones, whatever our take on the faults of the final season, one thing remains, we can’t ignore the series or the impact it had on our lives with hours of discussions, theories and lets not even get started on the number of inspired souvenirs I own! Lifetime Partner’ mug by Johnson Tsang is a play on whimsy and ceramic design that defies traditional behavior. The lifetime partners here are not just a couple but also everyday objects like a cup and saucer – the pair is incomplete without the other and isn’t that the sweetest pair ever!

Green is the new orange this Thanksgiving! DOIY’s Saguaro collection comes as a set of cups, mugs, and tumblers with fluted bodies and cactus-branch shaped handles. Colored in a remarkably eye-catching green, the glassware stack up on each other when not in use, turning your kitchen-counter into the backdrop of a Western movie. When you do need them for sipping something like Orange Juice, or something more appropriate like ‘Green’ Tea, the branch-shaped handles serve as a nifty functional detail, being decorative when you want, and useful when you need them. Don’t worry though, this adorable set of cactoid-crockery doesn’t come with spikes and definitely don’t need watering. Moreover, they’re freezer and dishwasher-safe too. Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote sold separately!

The Conchiglie is a neat, conch-shaped device inspired directly by the conchiglie pasta. Colored in yellow and molded out of food-grade silicone, the Conchiglie comes with a hollow inner that’s perfectly sized for a lemon-half. Slip the lemon in and squeeze it from the outside and the Conchiglie does a wonderful job of juicing the lemon without getting your hands all sticky and messy. The silicone construction gives you the friction and grip you need, and a tiny strainer at the end of the conch helps catch the lemon seeds as you juice away.

The Ortwo models itself on the hand-grippers that we use to increase our gripping strength, giving you a new, single-handed way to crush pepper, salt, or other spices. It can be literally worked with one hand if your other hand is occupied or messy (all pepper mills require two hands), and if you’re looking for speed and quantity, the Ortwo can be run with two hands too, giving you more crushed pepper in less time! Its unusual build makes it easier to use (not to mention it works your hand muscles too!), and a spring within the Ortwo returns it to its opened position after you press down on it.

The art of Magemono has been around and flourishing for as long as 400 years, but with the commercialization and modernization (and even westernization) across the world in the past half-century, the heritage artisans began seeing a gradual-yet-unavoidable decline in appreciation for their craftsmanship and eventually, their trade. Nasuda decided to continue the Haori cup line, with the Magemono tumbler and the Magemono bread tray, two classic everyday products that add a touch of Japanese minimalism, craftsmanship, and perfection to homes and lives.

It isn’t often that something as mundane as an ice-mold wins a design award, but it seems like the Icy Galaxy by Ladan Zadfar and Mohammad Farshad deserves recognition. Designed to look like a beautiful wavy orb of ice, the Icy Galaxy sphere does two things – It creates an interesting interaction with the liquid it’s immersed in, especially when the liquid slides into the orb’s multiple crevasses, but at the same time, it also helps rapidly cool drinks down by increasing the icy orb’s surface area (similar to how motorcycle engines come with fins that increase their surface area allowing wind to cool them more effectively). The orbs are crafted using silicone+plastic molds that create two spheres at

There’s nothing better than a cup of joe to chase down that Thanksgiving meal! The compact capsule shape of this coffemaker by Roee Ben Yehuda makes it look like a moon lander for your counter and is obviously powered by caffeine which is only the second most powerful fuel after rocket fuel! The designer’s main focus was to retain some of the rawness and the mechanical steampunk look of the traditional Italian espresso makes while maintaining a clean shape that adds character to the product. There is a tubular water/steam container at the back which I feel can be extended down for added support for the appliance. There is also another container for your beans which I assume leads to a small grinder mechanism inside so you only get the freshest cup of joe each time. Overall, the shape is very unique and combines the nostalgic steampunk elements with clean, smooth curves for a balanced modern machine.

Not-Your-Average Cutlery detaches form and function to create a beautiful contrast!

The Disconnect series was created as a part of a Render Weekly challenge, but to be honest, it looks like something from the mind of Nendo. By separating the two elements of cutlery (the part that interacts with food, versus the part you grip), the Disconnect creates a form that is distinctly twofold. The two elements of the cutlery get individual treatment, instead of being like regular cutlery, where elements blend into each other to create a singular, homogenous form.

The cutlery series was envisioned in silver, space-grey, gold, and rose-gold, and I can’t really testify to whether it would be comfortable to use, but I’ll be damned if I don’t admit how incredibly eye-catching they are!

The world’s first travel cutlery set that comes with its own portable spray-based dishwasher!

Nobody’s ever had the foresight to consider that the majority of people prefer disposable cutlery sets for not one, but for TWO reasons. The idea that people don’t like to carry home cutlery with them because they aren’t inherently portable is arguably just one half of the argument. The other half (and a bigger one if you ask me), is that people don’t want to carry their own cutlery because it isn’t easy to clean it after you’re done.

The Cliffset tackles both these issues with equal importance. Designed to be a reusable travel cutlery set with a difference, the Cliffset doesn’t just focus on portability, it focuses on maintenance too, by being perhaps the only cutlery set I’ve seen that comes with its own cleaning tool to clean up after you’re done eating! Everything fits in a portable pouch that’s small enough to fit in your pocket or slip into a backpack, and is designed to be carried everywhere you go and be cleaned and reused over and over again, giving you the comfort of knowing that you’re using your OWN cutlery (as opposed to using cutlery in restaurants) made from reusable materials, which you don’t need me to tell you is a much better option compared to the use-and-throw plastic cutlery that pollutes our planet and oceans.

Like most traditional travel cutlery sets, the Cliffset opts for a stainless-steel construction. The flatware kit comes with your standard spoon, fork, and knife, complete with powder-coated handles that give them a pop of color. Its pièce de résistance, however, is the inclusion of a tiny, portable water-spray that lets you clean your cutlery after you use it. The spray sits inside a plastic housing that’s designed to help easily scrape food off your flatware too. Curved corners help clean the spoon out, while ridges on the top let you wipe in between the grooves of a fork – all you need is to wrap a napkin around the tip of the cleaning tool to effectively scrape any final bits of dried stubborn food. The spray aids further in the cleaning process with a cleansing spritz of household, alcohol-based solutions. Cliffset suggests using your own pure lemon extract- ingredients: alcohol, water, and lemon oil. Just spritz your cutlery before and after wiping them down and you’ve effectively got yourself a clean set that you can reuse easily… a feature that works WONDERS when you’re outdoors for a weekend and you need to eat multiple meals! No more carrying greasy utensils or forgetting cutlery in the wash at home.

Cliffset – A Case for Clean Eating

The Cliffset is a portable, personal cutlery set that comes with its own dishwasher.

Cliffset fits your on-the-go lifestyle with anywhere-clean eating in a compact yet durable case. Their custom-contoured scraping tool works like it’s made for their cutlery—because it is. The ridges fit right between Cliffset’s fork tines to scrape off every last bit of uneaten food, while the straight and curved edges are perfect matches for Cliffset’s knife and spoon.

The cleaning tool doubles as a sprayer to be refilled with your favorite no-rinse cleaning solutions. You can use something like pure lemon extract, a food-safe, no-rinse solution that’s perfect for on-the-go cleaning. It’s ingredients: alcohol, water, and lemon oil- that’s it.

Let’s Review

The cleaning tool stays clean as well. They ruled out brushes, bristles, and textured scrubbing surfaces as they tend to entrap food particles.

Rather than the typical camping centric cutlery set, Cliffset is designed for everyday settings such as fast-casual restaurants, food trucks, and picnics where napkins are not accessible.

Best practice, the cleaning tool serves as a rigid edge underneath your napkin to scrape that last bit of dried up food (which will form during engaging lunch conversations). The tool houses a refillable sprayer for a final spritz of household, alcohol-based, no-rinse cleaning solutions (more on that below). Cliffset thus stays clean and ready for your next meal and adventure.

Infinitely Reusable

Made from food-grade 18/8 stainless steel with powder-coated handles, Cliffset can stand up to anything from dishwashers to petrified hummus. Durable. Sustainable. Portable. And exceptionally tasteful.

Colors: Bolinas Black, Stinson Silver, Granada Green, Point Reyes Yellow and Ocean Beach Orange.

A stackable cooking container that goes from stovetop to the dinner table with ease

My first cooking set was a hodgepodge of pots and pans that were shared between four roommates. They were piled haphazardly in one of our bottom cabinets, as there was no clean way to stack them neatly. We kept them out of sight and out of mind, but this also means we were reluctant to cook on a daily basis.

The Cooking Totem set covers the essential cooking needs of any young adult, while also presenting itself in a beautiful package. It contains five pieces: a wok, soup pot, skillet, saucepan, and crepe pan, which all stack neatly together like nesting dolls. The set also comes with two modular lids and detachable handles — a game-changer that allows for easy, compact storage.

Of course, as you saw in the picture above, this eye-catching set was meant to be displayed, not just on your kitchen counter, but in the dining room. Just remove the handles from the Cooking Totem pots, and you get a set of simple, sleek serving bowls. This product’s duality as a kitchen and dining room set truly separates it from other products in the space … and it clearly deserved to win this year’s RedDot Award.

This folding partition works as tables to transform your food truck dining experience!

From Los Angeles to Tokyo, food trucks are staples in cities across the globe. Whether you’re attending a smorgasbord or just grabbing a bite on your lunch break, food trucks are known for providing customers with quick and tasty meals, but not so much for dining space. When eating out at a food truck, searching for a spot to eat your meal is usually expected. However, Grutergi, an adjustable, folding partition that can transform into a dining area, attaches to food trucks so that customers can eat their food while it’s still hot. Jeongho Oh designed Grutergi to make the food truck and market experience cleaner and more convenient.

Grutergi allows food truck customers to enjoy their meals right away with its paneled fence that folds down to meet your height. The double-sided partition allows for dining space on one side and garbage disposal on the other as Jeongho Oh also designed Grutergi in order to combat the messy aspect of food truck dining. Whether you’re stumbling your way towards a food truck after leaving the bars, or you’re running a tight work schedule and can’t waste any more time, tidiness is usually compromised for the sake of enjoying your meal. After finishing your meal, it can be a long time before finding garbage to dispose of the takeout containers. By attaching trash bins to Grutergi, customers will be able to enjoy their food while also upholding the truck’s cleanliness. The multiple folding lines on Grutergi make it easy to bend the partition to your preferred height (find us a dining table that can do the same!) or keep it standing to create a divider – the possibilities are endless.

In many cities, food trucks are sometimes even more popular than dine-ins thanks to their speedy, fresh preparation, and their accessibility. Even with their ever-growing popularity, food trucks are known for their convenience and not so much for their dining areas. But sometimes finding a spot to eat your food peacefully can sometimes take longer than eating your actual food. Thankfully, Grutergi can do that work for you.
