This outdoor tarp fits as many as 6 people and can fold down to the size of a duffle bag

Designed to elevate your outdoor adventures, the rather aptly named Shelter gives you a nice, secure spot to lounge in on your camping and glamping trips. The Shelter comes from the minds of the folks at Cinch Outdoors, known for their experience in making unique outdoor tents and camping accessories. While rather simple, it’s designed to be large, effective, easy to set up, and uses only the finest materials and technologies to bring this idea to life. Perfect for friends, families, or even teams on outdoor excursions, the Shelter is large, giving you the feeling of being indoors while outdoors. It cuts the sun during the day, breaks strong gusts on windy evenings, and is designed with water-repellent fabric to keep the rain at bay. Oh, and it even comes with its own repair kit just in case there’s a bit of an oopsie.

The Shelter was designed following pretty much the same principles that led to the founding of Cinch Outdoors – camping should be fun, easy & affordable, and not suck away your time, money, and sanity. At just $239 for its early bird version, the Shelter makes for a compelling addition to your outdoor arsenal. When folded down to the size of a duffel, it weighs merely 7 kilograms or 15.4 lbs, but opens up into a sprawling outdoor tarp covering 12.5 feet x 9.3 feet, with a height of 6.5 feet at its highest point.

The shelter’s half-moon entrance gives it almost a cosy man-made cave-like appearance, and allows light and wind to make its way through in just the right amounts. The Shelter uses rugged poly-canvas with a waterproof rating of 3,000 HH (pretty standard for good tents), along with poles made from fiberglass for flexibility, and Grade A steel for durability. Installing the tent is intuitive and gets easier with time, while folding the tent back down  brings it back to its compact size, allowing you to carry it in your hand, or even chuck it in the back of your car.

The Shelter was designed to be the perfect gathering space for the outdoors. Camping trips, glamping trips, beach outings, backyard parties, Sunday afternoon tailgates and so much more – the Shelter is ready to elevate each and every adventure. Starting at $239 for early bird backers (although the MRP is $399), the Shelter begins shipping in January – just before spring when the weather is perfect to venture outdoors!

This house-shaped inflatable tent sets up in a few minutes, amplifying your camping experience

If choosing between spending time at the beach or going camping, I will always go with the former. But what if you could do both? Well I’d still prefer to spend my time at the beach at a hut or in a room but for those who are fans of camping, this new product from Air Architecture may be pretty appealing. What if you could bring with you anywhere a small, portable house, whether at the beach, in the forest, or in your backyard? Yes some would call it a tent but this one looks more like a house.

Designer: Air Architecture

This inflatable tent is designed after a “classic” house, meaning those that you drew on paper whenever you’re asked to draw a house. The simple design with the triangular roof and the rectangular body matches the white color of the structure and it can fit anywhere you want to bring a house to. It has an airframe with a TPU pipe with a diameter of 120mm, thickness of 0.3mm and covered with 210D Oxford polyester. Because it has a polyurethane coating on the fabric and seams, this can be used during any weather conditions including rainy weather. The polyester fabric also makes this fire-resistant, waterproof, and more importantly maintains the sharp form needed to keep it up.

Setting it up should be easy, at least on paper. After taking it out of its carry bag, make sure you have enough space to blow it up to its 2.4 and 2.2 m size. Open the valve, put in the nozzle, and then pump in air into it for around eight minutes. Once fully blown up, you’ll get a house that has a high ceiling, windows that can be opened, and enough space for you to move around and put some stuff in, unlike with a normal-sized tent. When you open the windows, you get to be one with nature, whether you’re in a forest, at the beach, or wherever you’re setting it up for your camping trip.

The white color also makes it stand out during the daytime and at night time, it glows in the dark when you turn on a white lamp inside. It’s designed to be “a piece of cloud” that can blend in whatever environment you put it in. While I’m still not a camping person, you might be able to persuade me to stay in this tent house at the beach, while listening to the waves lapping in the ocean.

A Japanese portable tent designed with a wood burning stove is your sauna for the great outdoors

There is no reason why you shouldn’t be able to enjoy a detoxing and rejuvenating sauna in the wilderness when you’re out hiking or camping! For moments when you want a portable sauna, Iam Sauna by a Japanese start-up is the go-to option for two primary reasons: it’s highly portable and convenient to set up!

Iam Sauna is a lovely tent-style sauna provided with a wood-burning stove that allows people to enjoy the outdoors even in the cold weather to regain the lost energy after a long day. A Japanese-style sauna tent is extremely portable; you can carry it along whether you’re biking it up or driving for a picnic with your family. In addition to portable design, the sauna tent is effortless to set up. A single person can install the tent in under a minute. One will be required to stretch out the pull tabs on all four sides and instantly, a stable and usable tent is ready.

Heat up the wood-burning stove and in minutes you have your personal sauna ready. Whether you’re tired after a hike or simply want to experience a sauna by the lake, Iam Sauna can let you do that. The interesting factor here is that this stylish sauna is not just for a single person. Up to six people can accommodate within the 200cm by 200cm tent. The sauna is made from triple layer 420 denier oxford woven tent fabric, which is insulated with heat-insulating cotton material. The stove is purposely designed to be compact and efficient so that the interiors of the tent can be nicely heated for a comforting sauna.

The metal stove with folding legs weighs 18kg – makes portability of the sauna tad difficult – and features heat resistant glass window and a guard plate on top that is removable and can be used to stack up the sauna stones. The chimney of the stove pierces out through the ceiling of the tent, which is made specially from flame-resistant fabric to reduce the risk of damage by sparks from the chimney.

Once you’re inside the Iam Sauna, you are not secluded from the world outside, as is the case with traditional saunas. Since you are in the great wilderness, you should be able to enjoy it to the fullest irrespective of the activity you’re involved in. For this, the sauna tent is provided with two entrances and five windows to enjoy the panorama outside even when the heat is relaxing your body and mind!

Indoor Pop-Up Privacy Work Tent: Nothing to See Here

With an increased number of employees working from home in spaces they may not have anticipated being their new office, what’s a person to do to ensure some privacy so they can focus and get their work done uninterrupted? Personally I lock myself in the bathroom. Alternatively, there’s the $120 Sanwa Home Privacy Tent available from the Japan Trend Shop.

Just like a fun sports car, the Home Privacy Tent includes a sunroof. It also features a side window, measures 35″ x 43″ x 59″, and folds up easily for transport in its included carrying case. It’s perfect for telecommuting, gaming, studying, use as a small photography studio, and more. Still, it’s not exactly what I had in mind when I imagined myself with a home office.

So, is a Home Privacy Tent going to be my new Fortress of Solitude? Given that my wife removed the lock from the bathroom door, I’m afraid I don’t have many other options. Are my cats going to constantly try to lay siege to the tent whenever I’m inside? I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised to learn they’ve already built a catapult.

This Wearable Anti-Insect Tent Is a Real Product That Exists

The great outdoors: it comes with a lot of bugs. And what if you don’t like those bugs? Enter the WalkingPod Mesh personal anti-insect tent, a wearable fine-gauge mesh tent that prevents pesky bugs from getting too close. Plus it makes you look cool while you’re mowing the lawn or picnicking with your significant other.

Available from Under The Weather, the limited edition (act now!) $90 pod stays in place via backpack-style shoulder straps and an adjustable belt. It also has an elastic waistband to prevent bugs from entering from underneath, and two elastic holes to stick your arms through, making your exposed forearms an all-you-can-eat buffet for mosquitos.

So, did you already buy one? I bet you didn’t, because I already bought them all out of stock. Now I’m reselling them on eBay for twice the price like PS5s, although they’re not exactly selling like the hotcakes I expected them to be. As a matter of fact, I’ve actually had to take a loss on most of them. Also, there’s a 100% chance I forget I’m wearing my WalkingPod and smash a hotdog into the mesh.

This Japanese indoor tent is the introvert-friendly social distancing we need in 2021!

Being alone, and at home is not that bad – the pandemic has taught us all that bit at least. But if you are someone who is an introvert, then keeping away from human interaction could be your comfort zone redefined. That’s what this interesting Japanese product is all about. A secluding tent designed for anyone who craves the most comfortable “me space” away from civilization (well at least by the look of it) with all the accessories, snacks, and resting space cocooned into a compact personal haven.

Dubbed the House Naka Secret Base Tent, the contraption could be your reading space, solitary workspace for ultra-productive work regime, or simply a place to take a short nap on a stressful day. Having a well-ventilated airy feel, there are ample curtains and meshes to create a peaceful personal space indoors for those kinds of times when you need one. The self-supporting frame of the tent is designed to keep it sturdy over any surface and the fact that it has no base makes it ideal for keeping on the carpet or a soft fabric base anywhere you desire to. Use-case scenarios with the House Naka Secret Base Tent are endless and it all depends on how you want to make the most of it.

The only downside being – it is not available outside Japan, and only local orders are accepted for now. For someone who already wants one and happens to have a dear friend in the country, a tedious favor (buying it and then shipping it) is worth what you’ll get in the end!

This isolated cabin-on-a-rock makes for the perfect getaway from civilization

If ever there was a time to just pack your bags and live in isolation, this would probably be it. Imagine escaping society’s problems, traffic, unrest, the weather, the news, annoying neighbors, and just taking a break on something as idyllic as this Ocean Cabin. Designed by Sri Lanka-based Thilina Liyanage, the Ocean Cabin is a neat, A-frame cabin precariously built on a giant boulder facing the ocean.

The A-frame design gives the cabin a sharp, jagged appeal that matches the rocky beach below… but the interiors are exceptionally warm and inviting, with an all-wood design, and a bar-counter to greet you as soon as you enter! You’ll have to climb multiple flights of stairs before you make it in; although, on a sunny day, that should give you a spectacular view of the coast ahead of you as well as of the lush greenery behind you. The cabin sits on stilts, giving you the advantage of altitude during high tides, while the complete glass-facade on the front of the cabin ensures you always have a panoramic ocean-facing view during the day. When the sun sets, the slanted skylight on the back ensures you sleep under a blanket of stars. Airbnb, give this designer a medal!

Designed by former SpaceX, Tesla, & AirBnB employees, this flatpack shelter is the ultimate adventure essential!

Glamping pods are cool but what if I tell you there is a portable shelter literally designed by the best in the game? Jupe is a luxe pod with a sci-fi-inspired design made by a team of multidisciplinary experts from across the housing, architecture, and engineering industries, including former SpaceX, Tesla, and AirBnB team members for modern travelers looking to escape their urban life and dive into nature. The glowing geometric structure and angular surfaces resemble a cut diamond or an interstellar shuttle more than age-old structures like RVs, cabins, tents, or yurts traditionally used for getaways.

Jupe is a portable off-grid shelter that flatpacks so you can pick any spot on the planet and pitch your tent. The futuristic silhouette is inspired by Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: Space Odyssey which explains the aluminum pole frame and glowing Firesist fabric exterior which also make it suitable to withstand different climate conditions. The mission was not to make a quick place to stay but to create a gateway to the outside world. It can be assembled in hours and gives you a 111-square foot space featuring tall ceilings, finished Baltic birch wood floors, a queen bed, and a storage area – think something right in the middle of a tiny home and glamping pod.

The large entryway doubles up as a window for your chosen scenery which you can endlessly gaze at from your queen-sized bed. The shelter also includes a 200 amp hour battery and solar array with electrical outlets, USB charging stations, dimmable LED lighting system, and a private wi-fi network if you cannot be completely off the grid. Apart from the bed, it is also furnished with designer pieces like the end tables, a desk + chair, an ottoman, and an average-sized monolith to stay aligned with the cosmos theme. Unlike most small portable shelters, Jupe’s ceilings are 11 feet tall and cloaked in luminous Firesist fabric. Like most tiny homes Jupe also optimizes its space – the Baltic birch wood floors open up to individual storage cubbies totaling 38 cubic feet which is enough space to store ten large suitcases (in case you are on the run).

“Experiencing the natural wonders of the world shouldn’t mean being forced to disconnect while staying in a less-than-inspirational living space,” said Jeff Wilson, co-founder and CEO of Jupe. “Jupe is an out-of-this-city getaway inspired by out-of-this-world ideas. During these times when most of us are craving a true escape, Jupe provides an experience perfectly suited for socially distanced travel.” The interior was designed in collaboration with renowned boutique hotelier Liz Lambert and sustainable architecture expert, TED Prize Winner, and former head of social innovation at AirBnB, Cameron Sinclair. Wilson, a design innovator and expert on modular housing, himself has lived in a 33-square-foot dwelling for a year and is known for founding the award-winning, micro-home Kasita.

Mobility is at the core of Jupe’s design and hence chassis foundation has been created in a way that involves no decking or foundation to be built which makes the shelter adaptable to any terrain, level or not, and leaves the land minimally disturbed. Amenities in the shelter can be upgraded include a Sonos Move speaker integrated with Alexa capabilities, a locking safe, solar panels, and a porch. Jupe is an off-grid escape from the city, whether to the middle of a sprawling desert, a windswept cliff by the sea, or your own backyard.

Tiny Tents Let Your Cat Camp Out

Tiny Tents are exactly that: tiny tents with all the features and functionality you’d expect to find in a regular size tent, but measuring only 18″ x 18″ x 12″ when pitched. I mean if you can even consider assembling one of these tiny things as pitching a tent. Maybe just underhand lobbing a tent, or even casually rolling a tent.

The tents, which are available in alpine green and sky blue over at REI, retail for $20 with standard features that include two zipper side doors with zipper mesh windows, a removable rainfly, tarpaulin floor, interior stash pockets “for stowing really tiny accessories,” a mesh stargazer roof, plastic tent poles with elastic connection for easy setup, and a whopping 2.25 square feet of floor space.

Obviously, the tent makes a great pet bed for small dogs, cats, and hedgehogs, or the perfect camping accessory for the action figures I still play with. I tell my wife they’re actually extremely valuable collectibles, but she knows. She knows.

These transparent wooden hanging tents are built using shipbuilding techniques!

This will sound lame but the Hanging Shelter (Hængende Ly in Danish) is actually the literal meaning of hanging out – you see it? It is a lot more than hammock strung up on trees, in fact, it is a very unique accommodation that has been custom designed using traditional shipbuilding techniques.

The enclosed treehouse is nestled 2.5 meters above the ground that offers 360-degree views of the lush green Genner area in Denmark. The only way to get in and out of the Hanging Shelter is via a basic ladder. The structure is constructed with steam-bent oak which forms the curved walls and floor – something that sets it apart from similar tents and is hard to miss! To give it a height there are eight additional arched wood frames that continue to shape the rounded walls vertically. The design team has used a thin, clear membrane to wrap the entire shelter in so that you are protected from different weather conditions and are still able to soak in all the natural greenery Genner has to offer.

Stedse Architects are known for architectural projects that revolve around “sustainable construction, including climate adaptation, energy-efficient buildings, energy calculations and environmental consulting” – making them worthy of admiration on the design front as well as being a community-conscious company. The Hanging Shelter is crafted by a team of skilled boat builders and engineers who worked with the architects. Both the teams – Stedse and the local builders – have a love for nature and using wood as an element. This made their collaboration successful in highlighting nature, design, and the intricate art of woodworking with a single overnight accommodation that had minimal site impact.

Wood gets a lot of flak when it comes to being used as a sustainable material because people often say “you are killing trees” but that is not how sustainable materials are picked. It is a natural, renewable, and eco-friendly material for building, with a lighter carbon footprint than steel or concrete. Maximizing the usage of wood in residential and commercial construction can remove an estimated 21 million tons of C02 from the atmosphere annually which is equal to taking 4.4 million cars off the road. Companies using wood in construction also follow a cycle to make sure they are not depleting resources faster than they can be renewed – hence many partake in planting trees all the time. Also, residues of wood industries are utilized in either by-product manufacture or fuel and clean bio-energy making it a very clever choice for sustainable construction. The company hopes that the Hanging Shelter can be an example of a project that will “show the potential of using wood as a natural, sustainable, and adaptable building material.”
